Overall, this food was very good. The shrimp was an absolute favorite. The hush puppies were sweet and soft. Very good. I did an online order to pick up when I saw it was on the route to our destination and the only thing I can complain about is that we had to big bags with food... including potato salad and baked beans and there was no type or fork or spoon in either of the bags. Or any napkins. Being that they stapled the bags together, i thought they would have at least put some eating utensils in the bag.... But that's okay... we just didn't eat it because we were in a roadtrip and didn't notice until we were back on the highway... it looked delicious... The dark meat chicken and the tenders were cooked to perfection... the wings on the other hand were VERY overcooked. The meat was really hard. The bbq sandwich was a little too sweet for me. Although i prefer sweet bbq over the vinegar taste, this was too sweet for me... but a good flavor. The bathroom was very clean. The dining area was very clean also. Customer service, I'll give like a 7/10. I stood there for a little while and neither of the two guys working the front greeted me or even acknowledged and I was standing there. When the young man who was packing the orders, I think he may have been a manager or supervisor because he had on a white button up shirt with a tie saw me standing there for a little while, he came over and greeted me and helped me get my order. I've been here a few times. Each time, the order takers seemed to be stressed & frustrated. They weren't friendly. They didn't smile. They just looked like they were ready to go home. We've been here during the evening only, so maybe it's just the evening shift workers. When eating inside, the tables have been dirty and the high chairs sticky and dirty. I have had to clean our area and the high chair each time. Then they bring us cold food and we end up having to take it back to request fresh food. We normally don't have this issue at other Smithfield's, so I don't know what's going on at this location. I love their food, so I recommend this restaurant. I have stopped in various locations but never left a review. Swung into the Nashville, NC location on the way back from the OBX this trip. They are know for the pulled pork BBQ and fried chicken. I always get the same thing, a pulled pork sandwich, fries, and an iced tea. I get the regular sized sandwich as the large is just too much. You order at the counter and then pick up when they call your number. The dining room is rather large and a cut above most fast food places. The fried chicken looked really good. We have never been disappointed at any Smithfield Chicken and BBQ location and the food is consistent at all the locations that we have eaten. Will stop by again when we are in the area. I rarely write reviews, but I had to write this one... This location is always a pleasure to visit! I only stop in on my way up to MD and ask for BBQ and slaw on ice, as I live in Raleigh.. The staff including the (assumed) manager is always very inviting. Special shout out to the younger lady (I believe she has braces) that has taken my order several times, close to closing time the past two Friday nights that I have stopped by. The food is so good. The sweet tea, hush puppies, chicken and bbq are magnificent. The only issue I had was the middle aged white guy with the close cut. He was very hostile, cut and dry. He certainly didn't make my family feel welcome. The children went to the counter for refills and they were a little intimated by him he didn't say thank you or remove your lid. About the third time I've been here. Waited to see if it got better before reviewing. Each time either something gets messed up, forgotten or the portions are ridiculous. By ridiculous i mean poor, super small or shorted. For instance you order a 8pc white meat chicken box and 4 of the pieces are super small wings, 3 breasts. Yes 7, For almost $20. The store was clean the bathroom not so much. The menu was very confusing as it seems like it assumes you have eaten at Smithfield's before. I ordered a 4 piece meal it comes with hush puppies. There is no sauce in the bag or napkins or silverware. The attendant was not helpful at all to maybe say sir we have a station to get that stuff or anything. So I took my food and left with the bag that he handed me. Got in my car and left. The chicken is dry and cold the hush puppies are just ok. I have no idea if this is a chain, but we had never heard of it. We told the cashier it was our first time there so she explained the menu to us and told us what her favorites were and what the most popular items were. My mom and I both got the pulled pork and coleslaw combo with hush puppies (I LOVE hush puppies) and then I got one chicken tender to try, since the lady spoke so highly of them. Everything was so delicious. The meat wasn't fatty and there weren't any bad pieces in it (we're picky). The hush puppies were a cool shape - they looked like those big Cheeto puffs..The curly ones. I've only ever seen huh puppies in the little balls. Whatever. They were good. The kids and my husband liked this place. It's nothing but fried chicken. We stopped here because it said BBQ on their sign and I can eat BBQ on my Keto diet but I can't eat fried foods and all they had were fried foods. We went to the Wendy's Drive thru for me afterwards. Their bathrooms are clean so if you are traveling and need a bathroom stop this is a good place to stop. After eating here tonight, I decided to write my first ever Yelp review. We ordered a regular BBQ dinner plate, a dark chicken snack, and a combination shrimp/BBQ dinner. The BBQ was bone dry with an overpowering taste of chili flakes. The Brunswick stew was bland (could've used a little of those chili flakes that were dumped in the BBQ, maybe?). The slaw was nothing to write home about...meh. Same for the hush puppies. But the shrimp...the shrimp is the main reason I'm sitting here trying to decide how to best describe just how HORRIBLE they were. Salt. Never have I eaten fried shrimp that tasted as though someone accidentally dropped an open container of table salt into the batter. I realize I ordered seafood inland, so I went into this with low expectations...but how hard is it to throw some shrimp into the same batter you use for hush puppies and fry them up?? They great you the second you walk in the door, you order your food, they bring it to you. While you are eating they check on you at least two times.
