Chicken and Pastry- meh it s okay on flavor but the noodle texture was too mushy. It was better than Gardner's but not as good as homemade. Coleslaw- meh. Not that great imo. Hush puppies- ok Banana pudding- not memorable imo. It was good texture but I don't think it was baked homemade kind. For me it was underwhelming. The seasonal fresh herring was yummy but fish is not my thing, that's my fiancés favorite.

I saw this place like a year ago while i was driving through this small town and stop to tried it but it was close, so finally i had the chance to tried it and i was not disappointed, i like to try different places when comes to NC BBQ and this is one of the of the best places that i ever tried. It is small restaurant but pretty good food, i like the unique shape of the hush puppies they look like onions rings, the sandwich was little small compared to other places but it was good, stew delicious, cabbage very flavorful, I definitely will come back another day, it is a little bit of a drive but i think is worth it.

This is the first time we eaten here in several years. My wife had fried chicken and I had fried shrimp. The shrimp tasted bitter because of the salty preservatives used. You could not taste the shrimp. However the Brunswick stew was delicious. My e was not satisfied with her chicken because it was over fried to the point of being tuff!! I would not recommend!

Yep, this was excellent barbecue. Probably more "central" North Carolina pulled pork as they did have a vinegar sauce on the table but there was also a ketchup based. Right in the middle of lunch time, the place was busy but I had a spot at the counter with friendly service. I chose the pulled pork plate which comes with three sides so I stuck to my keto diet and had green beans, cole slaw and cabbage. Yep, it comes with hush puppies and I did have one. It was good. Never seen them in rings before which was interesting. Their iced tea was tasty and I had it "northern" and put some pink stuff in it. Neat spot, definitely not fancy and the bathrooms leave a good bit to be desired but it's Nashville NC and this is the best for quite a long ways. I'd go out of my way to return. This is a destination because of the location and when you don't have much competition. On a business trip to Rocky Mount with a co-worker & this place was recommended for a Wednesday lunch. When you enter, you don't know if there is wait service and if you go to the window and order, we sat down and several staff looked at us like we were from another planet. Finally, I got up and asked someone and he said you go to the window and order which we did. We stood there for 5 minutes while a staff of about 5 people walked around ignoring us. We finally got recognized and I have to say the food and experience was way less than average.

Definitely a local joint. Stopped in for a Saturday lunch and enjoyed pork bbq, green beans, slaw, and a boiled potatoe. The bbq was moist, the slaw chopped and sweet, wished the green beans had some flavor. Liked having the hush puppies tossed in. The lemonade was huge, portion sizes ample. The dining room is closed so you can eat on one of the old picnic tables out back or in your car. Worth a one time visit to get some local flavors.

Excellent BBQ joint. Well worth the drive from Wake Forest. Doug Saul's is tucked away in Nashville, just off Hwy 64. It's a multi-generational family-owned spot, very popular with locals. Everyone knows everyone on a first name basis, and this place just oozes good old-fashioned Southern hospitality. It's an L-shaped room with about 15 tables. Order at the counter, food is brought to the table. Service is quick and friendly. The room ain't fancy, decorated with NC BBQ kitsch. Tried the pork BBQ with an assortment of sides - green beans, cole slaw, cabbage, black-eyed peas, brunswick stew. And hush puppies. The pulled pork is great. Smoked, tender & moist, served unsauced. The homemade BBQ sauce is vinegar-based (not my favorite) but still an excellent complement to enhance the smoky goodness of the pork. Cole slaw is ground, creamy and sweet. Ya gotta do the pork NC-style, with the slaw on top! Yum!! The sides make the meal at Doug Saul's. Green beans - fresh, seasoned and simmered all day, are outstanding. Brunswick stew, homemade of course, is a slightly sweet combo of tomatoes, butter beans, corn, okra, green beans and pork. Black-eyed peas firm and perfectly seasoned. Cabbage stewed till soft but still firm, sweet and buttery. The meal comes with a generous mound of hush puppies. Crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside, shaped like onion rings. The lunch here was SO good, even got some fried chicken and more green beans to go. And I can't wait for dinner! Doug Saul's is a slice of BBQ heaven. Well worth the drive to savor how NC BBQ is supposed to be done. Will be back for SURE!

This place is amazing!! It's bigger inside than it looks, plenty of seating for the whole family. You order, pay, then choose your seat and they bring the food to you. The food is dirt cheap, I got a big piece of fried chicken, a big helping of BBQ, a big boiled potato, brunswick stew (which is the best I've had in a long time), and crinkle cut fries. Everything was delicious, the chicken was so fresh and moist! And they give you a big bowl of hush puppy rings too! All this was $7! Really amazing value! I'll be returning for sure!

I thought I knew good BBQ. I've had Texas, Memphis, Kansas City, Nashville. I THOUGHT I knew. But nope, THIS IS IT. East Carolina BBQ is the best, and THIS is the best place for it. To make things even better, the fried chicken is also the best. Now I visit Kentucky frequently and thought that was top. But Doug Saul's blew that out of the water too. The banana pudding, the sides, it's all spectacular and don't let anyone tell you differently. The hours are weird but I'm not kidding when I say we plan our road trip from TN to OBX around Doug Saul's. We don't travel when they're closed. Can't ever miss it. IT MEANS THAT MUCH TO US. I've heard the can close randomly for events or holidays, but it's a mom and pop place what do you expect? Not to mention, it's hella cheap and the food is so good I don't know how they do it. They're all nice people, and make things right if something gets messed up and don't accept tips?! For example, a pulled pork plate at Martin's in Nashville is about $13. Here it's about $6 and they give you more food. Slam DUNK. I saw some review on here that said they don't offer real take out because you can't call in. Well, on the weekends the restaurant is packed so hell no they're not going to answer the phone. I tried once and completely understood why they were indeed open but not answering. Just go in, order, sit for a few mins and go home or wherever you're going. They're not too up with the times don't get mad at em. Anyway.... GO HERE!!

I've heard the food is fabulous, but would we be able to have a business lunch there for about 20 people and hear each other talk? We were planning to have people speak to the group.

Might be difficult to find seating for that many, at least seating that is together. Might want to go a little after lunch if you want to be sure everyone can sit together. The place is pretty small, and it gets really busy! An even better idea…

Food was prepared fresh and very flavorful & plentiful. We decided on the Big Bang with a medium spice level. Our server was very nice and friendly and didn't mind answering a few questions and making sure our food was to our liking. Per usual, the hubby ordered a shrimp and fish platter which was also a nice portion. This is a great restaurant, so much so I have recommended it to several people!

No Frills Regional Steakhouse Chain…read more Ribeyes offers a limited assortment of steakhouse basics at a reasonable price. The decor is basic and rather dull, but the wait staff is friendly and accommodating. Most of the items we sampled were satisfactory. I wasn't sure that I would like Ribeyes; but concluded that there are more plusses than minuses. Let's start with the Salad Bar. The only 'green', iceberg lettuce, was fresh and crisp. The rest of the 30+ items were just the basics; but there was a nice assortment of toppings (croutons, crisps, peanuts, bacon bits, raisins) and all the usual dressings. Acceptable, but not especially impressive. The Ribeye Steaks were very good. Nicely trimmed, tender, juicy and cooked to order. All steak entrees come with the 'endless' salad bar, 1 Side and Texas Toast. The featured Side is a large Baked Potato, which you can overload with any of the cheeses and other items on the salad bar - a real winner. The Cole Slaw, however, was dreadful. We sorta liked the Shrimp Skewer. The shrimp had an agreeable chargrill flavor, but were not worth the price. My favorite was the grilled Boneless Pork Chop. I agree with their menu description: "marinated in our special brine, seasoned and grilled to juicy perfection". Both the seafood items we tried were delicious. The Fried Oysters were spot on. Lightly battered with a crunchy outside; rich, briny, and slightly sweet inside. The Grilled Scallops were sweet and tender, but a little dry. Ribeyes also has a full bar and limited outside seating. Not my go-to steakhouse but definitely one that I will go to from time to time.
