If could give zero stars, I would. What happened to my family here was cruel…read more My wife had just given birth. She was in severe back pain and could barely walk. She couldn't even care for our newborn. We came to Mercy Clinic for an ortho or PT referral, an x-ray, blood work, anything. What we got instead was a clinic that refused to do the most basic part of its job. They told US to call our own insurance and figure out copays and coverage for the 10+ blood-test orders and the 4 physical scan orders they'd handed us. When we explained we didn't know we were expected to do that, like no clinic, hospital, OB/GYN, or pediatrician has ever once made us do this, their staff got angry, at us for even requesting that. Read that again: they scolded a woman days after giving birth, in pain, with a newborn waiting at home. We left anyway and called the imaging labs ourselves for the 4 physcial scans. In five minutes (five) they took our insurance and ran the numbers. That is how every normal practice in this country operates. Mercy has admin staff and its own lab and still couldn't be bothered. It gets worse. The lab codes for the blood work they handed us were internal codes, not universal CPT codes, so our insurance and the outside labs literally could not identify what tests had been ordered. So we had to call them AGAIN that evening and their staff promised to run it themselves and have answers by end of day Thursday. Silence Thursday. Silence Friday. Saturday morning I reached Dr. Muhammad himself, and he called me stupid for expecting the clinic to do its own admin work, told me it should take me "25, 30 minutes" with a newborn at home, called me stupid AGAIN when I explained his codes were unusable, and hung up on me. While this clinic played games for days, my wife's pain kept escalating. She now cannot walk at all. A doctor who calls a new father stupid and hangs up on him, while his wife deteriorates at home, has no business practicing medicine. If you care about your family, go literally anywhere else.

When I was shopping for a new Family Practitioner in town, I looked for recs from my other…read morephysicians and Dr. Posey's name came up. There are a few things I look for when I'm researching for a medical professional. First, I look up credentials (no brainer there) and Dr. Posey just happened to have graduated from my alma mater albeit many moons before me. Second, I look up any ratings available online or any personal recommendations from other patients and/or doctors. Finally, the ease, efficiency and politeness of their front office staff. Nothing's worse than trying to get an appointment or a simple question answered with a staff that's rude and incompetent. Thankfully, Associates in Medicine (which Dr. Posey is a part of) has a very pleasant and efficient staff. There are many things I love about going to an "old school" doctor. Dr. Posey isn't a young man (in fact, he reminds me of my grandfather) but his knowledge is broad and he is impeccably thorough in his examinations. In one of his initial thorough examinations, I found out I had mitral valve prolapse which had gone undiagnosed by my former physician for 20+ years. Dr. Posey listened to my heart sounds in all the correct positions while sitting up as well as had me turn to my left side while supine so the heart could be in a more anterior position to hear the "click" of my inefficient valve more clearly. I think I've only EVER done that in school and have never actually seen it in practice. I also had an EKG done (other issues with my heart) which, again, my original physician never did. He also did neuro checks which many, many physicians would skip in a young, seemingly healthy patient like myself. Overall, Dr. Posey requests a full physical exam once a year in his patients which include blood work (CBC, chemistry, thyroid, cholesterol panel), urinalysis & culture, and a chest x-ray. During my first year being his patient, I declined all the exams (because I was a bad patient and just wanted to be seen for my actual focused problem) but since then I've been compliant because I know Dr. Posey is looking out only for my best interest. Perhaps one of my favorite things about Dr. Posey is his bedside manner. He isn't one of those 5 minute physicians we're all so used to these days. He takes his time to interview you and do your exam to correctly diagnose the problem. And if he doesn't have the answer, he's more than happy to refer you to someone who does (with a personal phone call). Once, when I had to have minor surgery, Dr. Posey arranged my office visit with the surgeon for the following morning by calling the surgeon himself while I waited in one of the exam rooms. When he came back, he handed me a printed copy of my insurance and told me that the surgeon's office was expecting my call and that I was scheduled the next morning for my surgery. When I went to the surgeon's office the following day, apparently, the surgeon doesn't even have morning clinic that day but put me in as a favor to Dr. Posey! I sincerely appreciated that extra little effort. I know how hard it is to find a good physician these days and I feel very fortunate to have stumbled upon such a great doc.

I came in with various symptoms that could have been multiple things. Within less than 5 mins of me explaining my symptoms John was able to diagnose me with hyperthyroidism. He ran blood tests which confirmed it. When I told him I wanted to get a second opinion he happily obliged and recommended some great facilities that specialize in my case.
