It's one of the larger Westlake Hardware stores, with aisles upon aisles of tools, yard work machines, camping items, grilling items. The staff is helpful. I most like their plants and their yard work equipment aisle. Granted, I don't know much about equipment, but if you want something by Stihl, they have it. They will show you how to use it, and give you hints, as well. Their plants are in the far part of the parking lot. I love their garden area. The prices are reasonable, and the staff helpful. I've nothing but good assistance from the staff at this store. Every cashier is friendly, and there's always staff to help out in the departments. If you ask them something in the middle of the store, they walk with you to find what you need. I rely on this store, often and have no idea what i'd do if it wasn't it's present location. I even known some of the staff's names, cause I go in there so often: Matt, Kayleigh, Christian. I can tell they like their jobs, by the employees attitude. One star too many!…read more Sutherlands has lost my business because Sara the store manager was intentionally rude to me; plain and simple. Had she the professionalism to stand up and meet a loyal customer at the counter there'd be no poor review. I purchased a piece of furniture and set up its' delivery(this was not going to my home) on a subsequent visit. Spoke to 4 store associates about delivery and it was never mentioned that the delivery was drop off only. I figured price ($50) was determined by 7 mile distance. Price was never a concern, I pay quoted prices to have things delivered and tip the guys when it's done. Driver calls and we agree I'd be there in 30 minutes to accept delivery. Arrival and driver wants to drop it in driveway and leave, which was not prudent. On my way to an appointment I had no time to find and arrange for help and could not leave it unattended. I told the driver that I don't fault him. I asked him to contact store so I could work something out and he would not. He said it wasn't like they were going to send anyone to assist and as far as they're concerned he made delivery whether he unloads or not. Said to me, "people tell me all the time" they weren't informed it was drop off only. Fast forward several minutes and I'm on the phone with Sara who (having been informed by then) rudely says it was up to me to ask details of delivery and that the first money is lost and to come out again there's no break on what I was completely prepared to pay had any of the store associates asked delivery details. Her words to a customer discussing his dilemma with a $300 sale being delivered were spoken in an unnecessary and insultingly curt tone. While upset with the situation I had not spoken insultingly, curt, profane or threatening to her or the driver. I wanted it delivered and didn't want to pay a double delivery fee which is what I'd be doing including the trip that I was not aware was unacceptable until it arrived. Either it is as Sara rudely stated that it's the customers responsibility to look among numerous signs on promo's specials and assorted information to educate themselves on what store policy is or rather what the delivery driver says; this happens regularly as it is not discussed upfront. Here's where the new and absurd 2023 unAmerican animosity reached its' peak in what I considered my local store. Sara made the "conscious choice" to sit 20 feet away from the counter and ignore me when I arrived for my refund although she recognized that I'm a regular shopper. That effort on her part, to be purposefully and personally rude to me warranted this review by a lifelong Sutherlands customer. Correction, past customer; keep my $50 rude lady because the $30-40 monthly I've spent for decades at Sutherlands on hardware and dog treats doesn't mind going elsewhere.

There are some very friendly good people there, but trying to find the tool or part needed frequently ends in going someplace else. We are in the middle of remodeling a home, so our visits are frequent and many times we aren't exactly sure what to get. And there are some great equally helpless staff to point us to the wrong solution. There are things the Lowe's has. Craftsman tools and some parts, for instance. And there are things they don't, like the proper wide replacement bracket for a Harbor Breeze ceiling fan that probably was purchased there. It's like a darker version of HD. Literally, it feels darker and less friendly, as odd as that sounds. The comparison applies to the staff as well, where the guy in the plumbing isle at Lowe's can lethargically point you in general to the location of some of the parts, the guy in the plumbing isle at HD can brightly describe exactly how to solve your problem backed by 40 years of master plumbing experience he recently retired from. Sure, we frequent Lowe's. It's conveniently located. And in general, a 2x4 is a 2x4, and a dry wall screw is a dry wall screw.

We entered right by the customer service desk, so I stopped and asked about them in case they were located at a different entrance. Mind you, I have a giant orthopedic boot & walker, but the woman still looked at me like I was a lazy POS & said "we only have one so someone must have it," then rolled her eyes and turned away from us. I started the long-for-me walk to the lighting section and had to stop part way to rest. Fortunately, some other customer had seen fit to open up a package of folding chairs nearby, so I was able to sit down for a few minutes and rest. At this point a nice young lady who worked there came by and asked if I needed help, and I explained the motorized cart situation. She was aghast and said she would go find it. She recruited a young man to help, and they found it out in the parking lot. The young man drove the cart to me and things went fine from the there.
