I've followed The Hungry Black man for a long time and was certain that I'd visit Smith & Webster the next time I was in Miami. So glad I included it in my plans. The ac was on Antarctica. I was greeted & seated right away. There was a large group for someone celebrating their 50th birthday, but that didn't take away from my service. I ordered fried catfish, greens, cornbread, and mac & cheese. The catfish came with two sauces. The cornbread came with a jalapeño honey butter that was ooh la la; will have to try to make it myself. My only critique was that the shell noodles in the mac & cheese weren't seasoned. If you cook and love mac & cheese, you know what I'm talking about. First off I would like to start by saying the service was amazing the staff was on point and the Manager greeted every customer that came into the restaurant. I love me a great ambiance with great food and great service. We came here and had the lemon drop martinis which came in an assortment of flavors such as raspberry, passion fruit etc. I got the watermelon flavor which was great! I forget what that appetizer is called but I believe it has cilantro, and a sweet sauce. It's absolute perfection. Everything that we ate was beyond expectation. These bartenders were definitely mixologist that took time and mastered their craft. I ordered a smoked drink, a shaken drink and a stirred drink. All of my drinks were made to perfection. For food I ordered a couple orders of the crispy shrimp. It was prepared with this semi spicy chili sauce and it was delicious. We went to the Coral Springs location for our monthly Cousin's brunch. We were seated immediately. Our waitress had an attitude and did NOT introduce herself. She kept rushing us to order and was very short with us. The prices were $5 regular or $10 VIP. When we entered we were seated quickly even though we were still waiting for one more person to arrive. I arrived around 8:30pm on a Thursday evening in a party of 3. We had reservations for this time. We checked in and was told by the host that he was going to get our table together. While waiting, I went to the restroom. It's hidden tbh lol. There is a door in the to the left. When you open it, you first see a mini lounge area with greenery on the walls leading to the restroom. It's nice actually. There was a group of ladies taking photos. The men's restroom was clean. I liked the colors. There was a candle by the sink but o honestly couldn't even smell it. They might need a stronger scent lol. By the time I got out, the rest of the party was sitting. This was around 8:37pm. The server hadn't came by yet. You must scan a QR code to see the menu. Our waitress, Navara, came at 8:40pm. She introduced herself and yay! That's a rarity lately. I ordered around 8:45pm. I got the buttermilk biscuit and a grilled wings as my meal. Another person got the exact same thing but with fries. I wanted to add fries to my meal but the waitress didn't come back. While waiting, I noticed on the menu place card that dining is limited to 90 minutes and that there is an automatic 18% service charge added to bill. The light in the middle on the table is also adjustable. You just tap the top to go through 3 different brightness levels. This is pretty cool but it's movable and possible cost effective. My biscuit came at 8:54pm. One party's wings and biscuit came at the same time. The biscuit was delicious. Personally, I would've wanted it to be softer than it was. It honesty reminds of the biscuits from Church's Chicken, taste wise. When I opened my napkin with the silverware, I noticed it felt very light and low quality. Another party had a completely different set of silverware that was heavier and better quality. One party's shrimp pasta and a side of fries came at 9:05pm. I received my wings at 9:10pm. My wings were inconsistent in texture and flavor. Some wings were cooked longer than others (some had more crunch and some were soft). Our waitress wasn't attentive at all. I dislike the automatically gratuity because I think it can hinder customers from getting great service. The waitress did come back to check on us until 9:21pm, a whole 36 minutes AFTER I order and 10 minutes after I got the final piece of my meal. I think that's ridiculous. I had planned to order fries but that went out the window after the 10-15 minute mark of her not showing back up. When she did finally show up, she checked in and removed some of the empty plates. When she left, she came came back at 9:28pm with the checks. This was because one friend went to the restroom and ran into her on the way back and told her we were ready to go as she didn't feel well. Honesty, my opinion is that this place is charging and acting as if it's up-scale restaurant, but it's not there yet. The decor, service, and food doesn't justify it, unfortunately. They were out of the dish I had my eye on from their webpage - the ribs and / or the burger. Supposedly they have been out of it a couple of days. While I understand supply chain issues, I could have called to check if they still have that dish (I've done so at other places). Alas, they don't answer the phone. When we walked in, we were told as much though they graciously did allow us to seat especially after having to pay the $5 valet for our car to be parked right on the lot practically in front of the door. The bright interior lights give off a more day spot kind of vibe, not a sexy lounge kind of vibe. The 90 minute seating limit is also a buzzkill. So with our preferred dishes out, we settled for alternates - my friend for their short rib and truffle pasta and me for the fried chicken. We also ordered a couple of their buttermilk biscuits. These were the only positive thing about our meal. The meat from her pasta dish tasted very plain, almost boiled with no seasoning. The fried chicken that was my dish - like 4 pieces and a biscuit - was overly greasy and with no other seasoning. Other than the piece I gave my friend I didn't finish my meal or stayed for dessert. Decided to try out Smith and Webster with my mom for a Thursday night dinner. Pulling up to the restaurant, there seems to be limited parking that is Valet only. The outside has a nice vibe-y feel and as you're walking up to the front doors you can hear the R&B music inviting you in. We sat down and honestly it took 30 minutes for someone to come to the table and take our order. I noticed there were only 2 servers for the entire restaurant. My rating true rating is a 2.5 When we got to the restaurant, the parking area was small. So this is definitely a place you need to valet unless you're here super early. Valet was 5.00 cash only. I enjoyed the ambiance and the setting. Thé music is really loud which made it hard to have any kind of decent conversations, but it was good music, so it balanced out. We ordered from the happy hour menu since this was my 1st time and a test run, but we also ended up ordering from the reg menu. We ordered some wings and they came out pretty quickly but service with our waitress was extremely slow. It wasn't a big deal at first because I dnt consider service being a little slow a big deal but it became an issue when others consistently were getting served before us. While checking up again on our drinks I saw that both tables that came after us got their drinks before us. The table to my right looked like they ordered the same drink as me, the rum punch. The tables next to me had different servers. My 1st drink came after they got theirs. Not sure how the wings came out before the drinks did. The drinks took so long to come that in the end we ended up cancelling some of the drinks we ordered. The drink that I received was good. We enjoyed the food. The portions were small but delicious. The drink was made with freshly juiced cream de coco, freshly pressed mango, watermelon, and lime juice, topped with cucumber, Basel and her signature gold dust because everything she touches is gold! Then my new best friend in my head Paige served me 2 custom drinks as well. I didn't remember that I was a gin girl until Paige reminded me. The menu selection was the hardest part for me because I wanted everything! During my dinner I had the Caesar salad with chicken and the house made dressing. The chicken was flavorful/juicy; the dressing was creamy and delightful. For brunch I had the Catfish with grits, alongside the millionaire bacon, potatoes, and eggs. Once the food hit the table and the aroma hit my nostrils, I started eating immediately. After the the first taste, all thoughts of photos were forgotten. The grits were buttery/creamy - Catfish was moist and crispy - Eggs were fluffy - Bacon was thick and tasty - Potatoes were well seasoned and tender. Yum, yum, and yum. One of my favorite moments here was looking around and seeing the same satisfaction I was experiencing mirrored across the faces of the other patrons. I had the pleasure of having dinner at the Smith & Webster Restaurant in N. Miami Beach. OMGOSH! If you're in that area, It's a MUST. Hands down! The appetizer chicken sliders with fries serving size is at an entree level. The fries are incredibly delicious. We ordered a side of collard greens and wheewwww! I want to start off by saying that I must have had the best luck ever because these negative reviews very much surprised me. My boyfriend and I decided to swing by smith and Webster for a Sunday brunch. We didn't have a reservation but we're like my enough to be seated as soon as we arrived. We started off with some mimosas and ordered our meal. I will say this is the only downfall I found. It took FOREVER to get to us but luckily we had our bottle of champagne and great music playing. Our server was also very attentive and checked up on us often. We ordered the Mac and cheese and the lamb with eggs , potatoes and salad. The wait was worth it! Both were well cooked and seasoned. Heard nothing but great things about this establishment from close friends so decided to give it a try on a date night with my partner. Once we walked in you could feel the vibes, the hostess was friendly and attended to us immediately. Be prepared to sing along to the music (Old school RnB). Our server came once we sat down and let us know some of her favorites on the menu. Let's get into the food...I started with the Raspberry Lemon drop, ended up getting two lol. I love me a good lemon drop and it surely was delicious and strong! For appetizers we got the Chicken Dumplings which is a take on the soul food version, it was good just needed more salt. For our main meal I got the Turkey wing, it came with corn bread dressing, collard greens and black eye peas. The Turkey wing was fall of the bone, the flavors or literally unmatched but just salty. The collards were cooked perfect and the black eye peas had so much flavor, wish I had more. My partner got the Pan Seared Salmon and he loved it. Valet is the only option for parking, they charge $5 and if you don't have cash they take other forms of payment. Also a 18% service charge is applied to the bill automatically. I brought my husband to SxW for Father's Day and the staff was beyond welcoming! The hostess Lizzi was very warm and guided us to the bar where Lex recommended amazing cocktails and even changed my husband's opinion on tequila and Southbound is now his favorite. The food runner James and the manager Gorilla Kei wished my husband a happy Father's Day while all the rest of the staff (Dai & Jada) were a delight! CHEF ALEXIS EVEN TOOK TIME TO ASK US ABOUT OUR MEAL, which was beyond our expectations. The fried chicken platter was addicting and the oxtail lasagna was so impressive we even took some the oxtail arancini to go. 13/10 would recommend and go back. read more
