Smile Wonders have every detail that make visits to the pediatric dentist soothing. The impressive play area is filled with activities for the little ones. My little one gets timid at new places. She could not help but to gravitate toward the colorful play area once we walked through the front door. She loved everything, from the soft seats to the books to the selfie station. She didn't want to leave when it was time for her appointment. Notable details like stroller parking, coffee & water bar, breastfeeding pillows, television above the patient chair, and goodie bags filled with dental items, make the visit worthwhile. My little one wasn't happy throughout her teeth cleansing process, but that is to be expected. The dental hygienist was friendly and reviewed all the concerns we had. She also didn't go beyond her scope and reached out to Dr. Dang when an issue couldn't be resolved with the cleansing. The dentists, hygienists and front desk staff were professional. I am giving this place 3 stars because this is not my little one's first teeth cleansing. We switched over to this practice because it's closer to our home, and I want to take advantage of our PPO (previously DMO) insurance. The previous dentist reviewed my little one's teeth issues in great detail and did not try to sell us products, or ask us to return in 3 months, which will not be covered by insurance. That is what happened during our visit here. I did end up purchasing the product, and now having second thoughts. I know everyone has different views on dental care. Also, I know the front desk isn't clinical, but they do make scheduling a little difficult. I will leave it at that. read more

I couldn't love a dentist office more than I love smile wonders. I was first recommended to see dr Jaju as my second child had a posterior tongue and lip tie. They made the experience very easy and although I was super worried, they answered all my questions. They have an awesome nursing room in their facility since they have so many young babies coming in all the time. After my experience with the ties, I decided to use them as the dentist for my kids. All the staff is really great with children. I've seen both dr Jaju and dr Dang and both have been very patient with my children. They don't force the kids to go farther than they are willing which I really appreciate. They also have individual tvs for each of the chairs and cute headphones for the kids to wear as a distraction. I honestly couldn't ask for a better pediatric dentist!!!! read more

I wish I could Benjamin Button myself so I could become a patient at Smile Wonders. This pediatric dentistry has it all from a play area for kids with video games and bright, shiny toys. Patients can even watch movies on a personal device while getting their teeth cleaned! As a new mom I was also impressed with their private nursing room complete with a scale to weigh your baby, diaper genie, magazines, comfy chair and communal breastfeeding pillow. They really have thought of it all! All of the sparkle and shine of the office would not matter if it did not have a great dentist behind it and I'm here to say that Dr. Jaju is the real deal. She came highly recommended by a lot of people when my daughter was diagnosed with a tongue and lip tie at birth. I had read about all the issues it can potentially cause down the line so I was in the here is my credit card camp just to make sure that she would be okay. I was scheduled for a consultation and a tongue and lip release but after carefully reviewing my daughter's case and asking me a bunch of questions on how she is faring she recommended against it at this time since the baby seemed to be happy and gaining weight steadily and I did not have any issues breastfeeding. I really appreciated her honesty especially since the release would have cost a pretty penny. I have never worked with a better doctor, to say I was impressed would be a huge understatement. Dr. Rishita and her team were amazing. My son was referred to see Dr. Rishita for a suspected lip and tongue tie. My son hates people poking and prodding him (who does?), but Dr. Rishita and her assistant were so incredibly patient with him, and helped him open up a little bit. Turns out my son did need surgery to correct both a lip and tongue tie. So we scheduled his appointment to do so. The day of the appointment, I was naturally scared. No one likes their child going under anesthesia, or getting any type of surgery. I had people come with me for moral support. The wonderful staff came out and talked to all of us as he was back getting his surgery. She answered all questions my guests had, and really offered support during a time I was scared most. Another woman had come out and let us know they had found a bottom lip tie, explained how it would effect my son, showed me pictures, and asked if they could correct it. Of course I said yes, and they even corrected that lip tie for free (which was a huge financial relief). After the surgery Dr. Rishita sat and talked with me and my guests, explained everything that happened during the surgery, explained what I may see during the recovery period, and explained what exercises he would need to do until healing. I have never loved a dentist/doctor so much. The feeling of someone genuinely caring about the well being of your child is one you want with a doctor. She's incredibly nice and sincere, and her team was the greatest. With moving to multiple states, and having many doctors for my son, I can say she is hands down the best doctor we have ever seen. Let me first start this review by saying that I absolutely love Dr. Jaju and the staff at Smile Wonders. We have been coming here since my son was 10 months old. About the office: it is super nice. They have a play area for kids with toys, books, tv's, you name it. They also have a waiting area for adults with TV's, coffee machine and water. The reception staff is amazing. All the nurses are super nice, they text you to remind you of your appointment and make you feel so welcomed. They explained everything regarding insurance and our visit. They gave us a tour. Let me tell you, I wish I was a patient here. They are top of the line. TV's on top of the chairs, private rooms for frenectomy consultations, a lactation room with all the bells and whistles and a space themed X-ray room. Pretty cool stuff! Not to mention prizes for the kiddos after their appointment. I had been struggling with breastfeeding and over and over again our pediatrician and lactation consultant said he had no issues with tongue tie. He was always below the 50 percentile for his weight. It wasn't until his front top teeth came out that I realized something was odd about his lip. I did some more research and found out that bad latch could also be caused by a lip tie. Again, the pediatrician said he wasn't lip tied. I didn't listened this time and made an appointment with Dr. Jaju. The second she saw him she told me that yes, he was indeed lip tied and that she recommended doing a Frenectomy. We scheduled it for the next week. The day of the surgery I was a mess, and the nurses were so nice in calming me down. The procedure took 5 minutes and the second my son came out of the procedure he was able to latch properly to a bottle. I shouldn't have been so scared since they absolutely 100% know what they are doing. Dr. Jaju explained after care and what to do next. He fell a couple of days later and broke his lip very near where his frenectomy was. We called Dr. Jaju. She was on vacation but still the nurses texted me back right away, asked us to take a picture and text it back. Within an hour, the Dr herself texted us and told us that it looked ok and to keep an eye. That won us immediately. I am happy to say after that my son gained weight properly and now is above 90 percentile. Now we go every 6 months for his routine exams and I love it. She always remembers you by your name, remembers your kids name and the conversation you had last time. She takes care of you like you are family. Dr. Jaju and her staff are the best -- everyone from front desk to the hygienist to the dentist herself! Warm, kind, and inviting personalities and very descriptive and gentle (it seemed, from my POV) in everything they did in my toddler's first cleaning. My daughter had been here once before after a traumatic event (a fall which cause one of her front teeth to turn grey) when she was 1.5yo. They were great then and just as great now! I know clinics that work with children are expected to be all the things I described above, but this practice just seems above and beyond. I've had to cancel an appointment last min before due to my younger one being sick & they were so understanding. Their text reminders are appropriate and not too many. Their office is gorgeous - clean and stage of the art looking, and seems no expense has been spared to comfort and educate patients/parents . We had a lot of breastfeeding issues with our daughter and Dr. Rishita was recommended by our chiropractor and lactation consultant. Dr. Rishita performed three frenectomies (both lips and tongue) on my 5.5 month old daughter. She was incredible with my daughter and the procedure lasted less than 15 minutes. It was hard to see my baby in pain but in the end it was worth it. She fussed for a couple of hours but almost immediately got the hang of nursing correctly. The exercises that need to be done 5-7 days for the week following the procedure are hard, but only in the sense that baby cries while you're doing them. Just be patient and remember that the tears will only last a minute or two and that if you don't do the exercise you may need to have another procedure done. Dr. Jaju is one of the most genuine, caring people I've ever met. I'm sure it has to be difficult for her to specialize in working with children who have special dentistry needs. Whether it is a special needs child or a baby who needs a frenectomy, Dr. Jaju has got to be under levels of pressure most people cannot imagine. And as a parent you'd never know. We had brought our daughter to the ONLY name we consistently heard when asking doctors for recommendations for our baby's frenectomy. Someone so highly recommend is an absolute must for parents. Setting up appointments was an ease with her staff, and we even got reminders before the surgery. It's nerve wracking for new parents to subjugate their baby to surgery at such a vulnerable time. When the time came, Dr. Jaju came out to get the baby, her sincerity shone through. Like a long lost auntie finally seeing the baby, the way she greeted us, held the baby, and reassured us seemed genuine. She took the baby from us ( not an assistant) and held her while quickly explaining what we needed to do while the surgery was happening. During the surgery there was a private room where we were able to go and watch a video of some exercises we were to do after the surgery to prevent reattachment. After the surgery was complete we were brought back to the room where Dr. Jaju had the baby. She showed us what she worked on, and spoke with us for a while. Again, not like a doctor giving a patient attention, but a family member, she laughed with us, helped alleviate my wife's fears, made recommendations and suggestions. Never once felt rushed. Never once felt like Dr. Jaju had a million other things and she was ready for us to leave. Truely personal and caring attention. Not only that she did these things, but the way if was, you could just tell she really cared. It's rare whatever it is but Dr.Jaju sets herself apart. The dentists were great but the staff were unfriendly, especially the receptionist. Two days before our appointment, at 3PM, the receptionist left me a message saying that she needed some insurance information and she would need it by 4PM. What if I didn't call her back within an hour? Would they have cancelled our appointment?!! At the appointment, she seemed unfriendly and unhappy and acted like we were bothering her. The hygienist was kid-tolerable and didn't say much to my daughter. Since the place was not super kid friendly, we may as well go to a regular dentist! When my son was having trouble breastfeeding, we met with a lactation consultant who recognized that he had a tongue tie. She recommended Dr Rishita to us. After looking around online and seeing that she specialized in this, we decided that even though her office is 45 minutes away from us, it was the place to go. When we arrived her staff was very friendly, and gave us a tour of their office. We were the only patients there at the time, so they were able to give us their full attention. Dr Rishita and her assistant met with us, evaluated our son, and determined he had both a tongue and lip tie. She explained the procedure to us and took all of our questions. We never felt pressured and she was honest with us, letting us know that not fixing the ties wouldn't likely cause him problems with speech or other issues when he was older. Because it was impacting his feeding though, we went ahead with the procedure. Dr Rishita gave us follow-up instructions and exercises to do to take care of the site. She was amazingly kind and patient. She also even gave me advice on breastfeeding positions. We came back for 2 more follow-up visits and were eventually given the all clear that it had healed fine. His feeding improved wonderfully afterwards. Despite their distance from us, we're considering making Dr Rishita our regular dentist for our son once he gets older. read more

I couldn't recommend a dentist office more. My husband wrote a glowing review after our daughter's procedure in April of 2016 and we had a similar experience with our son's procedures. Dr. Jaju, Dr. Dang, and their staff showed the highest level of care for our family. I remember being disappointed when I called that I would have to wait a few weeks for an appointment but was told to fill out the paperwork and we would be seen as soon as they could get us in. I knew how well my daughter improved after her lip and tongue tie releases so I quickly filled out the paperwork and got a call that same day to come in the next day if I would like for our consultation. Dr. Jaju's team made sure that procedure was followed that would meet our insurance requirements, specifically, completion of a consult and procedure on different days. I appreciated this attention to detail. Our son was well taken care of and showed tremendous progress with the symptoms related to his ties. Our daughter loved our follow-up visits since the waiting area is so nice. I wish we lived closer so that we could have all of their dental appointments here. read more

I cannot comment on the dental work because we were never able to have it done. Weeks upon WEEKS of calls to ask when I was going to get the email to schedule sedation dentistry after an initial consultation and x-rays before I was told they would start the process then, weeks later, and it would be at least another 2 months to get him in. All of this was due to a many-times repeated office error that was neither acknowledged nor apologized for, and the office never made any effort whatsoever to make it up to us. My special needs 5 year old could not wait in pain for another 2 months, so the money we spent on the initial consultation and xrays went utterly to waste and we were forced to go to a dentist an hour away who is out of network and spend hundreds (maybe over $1000, given that the wait made the dental issues that much worse) more. All in all, this cost us so much time, health, and a LOT of money. Would not trust this office again. I understand a mistake. I understand the same mistake over and over less. I do not understand the utter lack of an apology and doing whatever they had to do make it right. read more

Dr. Jaju and the entire staff at Smile Wonders have been fabulous for my family! When my son's first adult molar erupted, I knew something was wrong - it was dark brown and looked awful. When I called Smile Wonders, they were able to see me the same day! Dr. Jaju explained how my son had hypoplastic teeth, and discussed ways we could deal with the issue. I had been so stressed out, and felt so relieved with her confidence that she could help him! Since then, we had to go through getting multiple fillings on several teeth, and even a crown. We began working with Dr. Rishita and her top notch team three years ago when my son was six years old. Dental care at home was very difficult, my son is autistic and ADHD. He was intolerant to toothpaste and simply could not sit through a dentist appointment. I reached out to Dr. Rishita after being on another dentist's waiting list for sedation dentistry. When Dr. Rishita heard about. The circumstances of my son's dental health and well-being, she and her team went above and beyond to help get him in Children's to take care of some extensive dental needs. At that time, he had cavities, baby root canals and extractions! I was disheartened, crushed, upset and felt like I had failed this little boy. Fast forward- 3 years later, this happy boy had had NO CAVITIES since! Dr. Rishita and her team helped make a personal plan to get my son in the dentist's chair. After a couple of appointments, we could get through cleanings, and then xrays. Smile Wonders has high-tech, adaptive equipment and a beautiful, relaxing office that really helped along this journey. What a truly wonderful and refreshing experience! I went to see Dr. Jaju at the request of our pediatric ENT for my son, who is tongue-tied at 3.5 years old. He is an independent boy and it has been a challenge to brush his teeth thoroughly. Between the tongue-tie and this stage of development, we were noticing the cavities develop in his bottom teeth. We too, had the same breastfeeding issues as other reviewers describe with getting our son to latch w/o shield. Our son supposedly had a lip and tongue tie and so Dr. Rishita recommended a lingual and maxillary frenotomy. I was skeptical about this procedure and as this really being the reason he would not latch w/o shield. Although the staff and doctor were friendly and professional, we did not experience successful results. Our son displays the same behaviors as before the procedure. Therefore, I do not necessarily believe the procedure "helped" him. So, I highly recommend a doctor that will explain the cons of the procedure as well, before undergoing such an expensive out of pocket procedure. Insurance probably won't cover the cost of the procedure, like ours. read more

I cannot say enough about Smile Wonders. My daughter was referred to Dr. Jaju by our pediatrician for a tongue tie when she was just days old. The tongue tie was affecting her ability to nurse properly, leading to much frustration and eventually tears (on my part). We reluctantly took her, afraid of having any procedure done on our tiny, brand new baby girl. Upon arrival we were given a tour of the office and received very friendly assistance as we worked through the insurance process. The nurses and office staff were extremely professional, friendly, and helpful. Before meeting Dr.Jaju for evaluation, we had a thorough discussion with one of the nurses who impressed us with her knowledge of the potential diagnosis and related procedure. Dr. Jaju came in to evaluate and provide a diagnosis for our daughter and she acted like Blair was the sweetest, most beautiful baby she had ever seen, which meant the world to us as new parents and helped ease our anxiety, too. We felt as if she cared about our baby more in the first 5 minutes than our pediatrician did. Our girl ended up needing the procedure done to fix her tongue tie using the water laser. Dr. Rishita is one of the only pediatric dentists around that works with this technology, which proved both effective and comfortable for our daughter. Dr. Rishita was extremely patient with us as she guided us through what needed to be done at home following the laser treatment. I was amazed that she sent me a text message a few nights after our daughter's procedure to check on her, and was able to provide support and check on her as I sent her pictures of my little girl's mouth. The follow up visits were just as pleasant, and I am pleased and extremely thankful to report that having had this procedure done, she eventually (with lactation support and suck training) was eventually able to nurse perfectly without assistance. Let me just start by saying that the sincerity and absolutely thoughtfulness that Dr. Rishita and her staff show is astonishing. When I came to Dr. Rishita, I was nervous and just wanting help with my daughter and breastfeeding. I am a mother of three and when our third was born she was a preemie. She seemed to latch fine, until about 6 months in. I started noticing she was 'clicking' when nursing, and was starting to bite me and would get frustrated. I'd looked in her mouth one day and noticed she looked to have a lip tie. I did some research and off of recommendations I called Smile Wonders, when I finally called she was about 7 months old, they got us in the same day. Upon arriving to their office, I immediately noticed how clean, warm and friendly it was. There is so much for children of all ages to do, including their own area (even in the dental cleaning area, with t.v.s above each chair) but there is also an area for adults, with coffee, tea and water. I then noticed that I was greeted with a friendly hello right away. After signing in and being provided a separate room to do paperwork, done on the computer, we were taken back to the room for a consultation. Dr. Rishita and Cayleigh, the primary dental assistant, immediately made me feel calm and helped my daughter to feel calm. Dr. Rishita took a look and explained that my little one had a pretty severe lip and tongue tie and explained the procedure thoroughly. She then gave me the option to move forward with the procedure or to hold off. After speaking with my husband, we decided to do the procedures. They were able to do them the same day! (If you're a parent you know how big this is) The procedure was quick and efficient. Dr. Rishita and Cayleigh, went over the exercises to perform daily and how many times a day very thoroughly and explained that the exercises are a necessity. I then went and nursed my daughter in their nursing room. Which is also very nice, equipped with a nice glider and water etc. Not only is Cayleigh a lactation specialists, trained, she was so personable and came in to ask if I needed help and to offer suggestions of how to help my little one get used to a new latch. Especially because she was much older than most babies who have the corrections done. Not one time did I ever feel rushed, bullied or like I had no say in what was happening. I could not have been more thrilled with our office visit. And to top it off, around 8 that night, Dr. Rishita sent me a personal text to ask how my little girl was doing. Again, if you're a parent you also know how big this is. Dr. Rishita and her staff are nothing short of a miracle. We had a great experience with Dr. Jaju releasing my daughter's lip and tongue ties. She took a measured approach - releasing the more serious lip tie first and recommending oral exercises before releasing the tongue when my breastfeeding discomfort did not fully resolve. For those concerned about subjecting their tiny infant to this procedure I would say that my daughter seemed totally fine within 20 minutes of the procedure and that the difference it made to breastfeeding comfort was dramatic. We first heard about Dr. Jaju at the Virginia Hospital Center Breastfeeding Support Group and when our lactation consultant diagnosed our daughter with a tongue tie Dr. Jaju was her top recommendation. It was very easy to schedule an appointment with Dr. Jaju and she was able to see us within a week. Dr. Jaju was wonderful as promised! She confirmed the tongue tie diagnosis, found a lip tie, and performed both releases the same day. Before doing anything, she walked us through the procedure and the exercises that were necessary to ensure the ties did not reattach. Dr. Jaju was gentle with our daughter and we could not have asked for a better experience. I will note that since our daughters tongue tie was not released until she was 8.5 weeks it did take some time after the procedure for us to progress with breastfeeding (she had learned some bad habits in those 8 weeks aka chomping). I am happy to say that we are both doing great now and I am even happier that we were able to continue breastfeeding and didn't give up! read more

Dr.Rishita Jaju went out of her way to accommodate my son's medical needs, and she offered her support and expertise as long as I needed it after the appointment was complete. We had my son's posterior tongue tie diagnosed by a Lactation Consultant at eight weeks of age. Made the mistake of going to an ENT who did a posterior revision but did not advise on any follow-up (ie "stretches"). Latch and nursing did not improve so found Dr. Jaju's credentials through an on-line support group. Dr. Jaju correctly diagnosed my son with a lip tie as well as posterior tonge tie (which had since re-attached). Very happy with Dr. Jaju's expertise in this area. read more

We had the pleasure of working with Dr Jaju for regular cleanings as well as a tongue tie procedure on our medically complex, 4 year old son. The staff is wonderful, calm, assuring, patient and extremely professional. They have the ability to accommodate all types of needs and my son adored coming to the dentist! Dr. Jaju performed a posterior tongue tie procedure on our son. This was a decision we had deliberated over for almost a year, doing immense amounts of research and visiting multiple practitioners for consultations. We took our son to multiple SLPs, feeding therapists and Dr. Robert Marcus, another well respected dentist who specializes in tongue tie procedures. We ultimately decided to have the procedure done with Dr. Jaju who's recommendation was to use a form of sedation on a child our sons age. Although his medical history was complex and we deliberated using sedation with fear of side effects, we felt it was absolutely the best decision in the end to go this route to avoid any trauma for him. This decision was also aided after many generous amounts of time Dr. Jaju spent on the phone with us discussing our options with absolutely no pressure, just information, and kindness. We knew it would be a quick procedure but we also knew our 4 year old would fight, scream and cry and never want to return to the dentist if we held him down for this procedure and did it without sedation. He needed this procedure because at age 4, he still could not eat solid foods, after being in feeding therapies for many years and we could see how his tongue was limited in mobility. This was a last resort for us and it paid off. Dr. Jaju performed the procedure, our son never was aware of any of it, it was done in the office with an anesthesiologist from INOVA hospital and it was over quickly. Once our son came fully out of the sedation and was back home, he was talking and moving his tongue around as if nothing had ever happened! He seemingly had no pain for the weeks after. We never had to administer pain meds and the type of cold water laser used and expertise of Dr. Jaju provided our son with an easy recovering and he gained significant mobility of his tongue in the months afterward. He also started sleeping through the night better (light apnea). Dr. Jaju is top in her field and we experience the difference that makes. I was obsessively researching and worrying about the decision all the way up to and through the procedure and it ended up being a non event, that changed our sons life. He is eating solids much better now and continuing to gain to skills since he can move his tongue with greater ease and with greater range of motion. My 5 y.o son has a difficult personality and had a mouth full of cavities, this was our third dentist trying to do anything rather putting him under IV sedation, I was terrified with the idea so kept trying. And Dr. Rishita done it! I still can not believe it, thinking how blessed we are found her, so caring and patient, she sang for him and talk to him like he would be her own son. Dr. Jaju was recommended by our lactation consultant who told us our daughter had a tongue and lip tie which were causing breastfeeding troubles. We took her for a consult when she was 8 weeks old and were hoping for a same day frenectomy. However, during the consult Dr. Jaju noticed some asymmetry in her mouth and recommended we wait on the procedure and have some bodywork done first. We left disappointed not to have more immediate resolution but I am so glad we followed her recommendation! After 3 bodywork appointments, we went back to Dr. Jaju and had the frenectomy done a week later. The bodywork had loosened our daughter's muscles and set her up for a much easier recovery. An immediate solution isn't always the best one - the delay paid off! Correctly treating tongue and lip ties truly takes a village - a knowledgeable lactation consultant, a trained bodywork specialist, and of course Dr. Jaju. After doing extensive research and discovering widely varied provider knowledge on tongue and lip ties, I wouldn't trust anyone else in the area for an infant frenectomy. read more

We could not have asked for a better person or expert to address our son's mouth issues than Dr. Rishita. Thank goodness for recommendations and reviews or we may have ended up elsewhere. We drive almost two hours to see her and it is well worth it! Her personality and way with babies and kids is fantastic. In addition,the fact that she does not use sedation and that the "clipping" is done with a laser is absolutely amazing and the healing process is almost immediate. Due to our son's various unrelated issues, it was not until a week before his first birthday were we able to seek treatment for what turned out to be severe tongue and lip tie. We had seen an ENT previously but were told his tongue was only moderately tied and that only if and when he was older did he have speech issues would any procedure be recommended. Our speech therapist observing our son's feeding and choking issues, felt there was more going on and suggested we see a pediatric dentist. Through social media, we asked other parents of tongue tied kids who they would recommend, and the only responses given was Dr. Rishita. We now understand why! Not only did she perform a more thorough exam, she determined that his tie was not only severe, it was tied in two places under his tongue and his lip was also severely tied. She also linked his ties to the choking and eating issues he was having. Dr. Rishita is absolutely wonderful. She took her time to sit with us, educate us on the different types and degrees of tongue and lip tie, showed us our sons ties compared to kids not tied, and answered all of our questions beforehand. She also took time to explain how the procedure would go and gave us the reassurance we needed when we were fearful and worried. We had our concerns given that our son was much older and stronger than a lot of babies who are treated for tongue tie. We were also concerned how he would handle the procedure given that he has other issues that have him constantly seeing doctors. But, Dr. Rishita and her assistant were not only able to conduct the procedure and keep our son calm and still enough to perform the laser cuts in three places, they adjusted their approach to his needs, and were finished in under 30 minutes. Dr. Rishita's approach along with her expertise and technique made all the difference. We were so worried about how much pain he would experience, but as soon as he saw us immediately after the procedure he was already smiling. Dr. Rishita is a true professional and clearly an expert in her field. She has a gentle touch and a big heart and that shows through her work and how she interacts with both the kids and the parents. She has continued to be wonderful with our baby as well as with us. We cannot say enough about her and highly recommend her! read more
