I didn't think it was possible. I didn't know it was attainable. I didn't believe it could be done. A 5-star dentist experience. Is it truly possible? Yes. Smile Dentist proves that it is. The office manager Denny is totally awesome, incredibly responsive, and super helpful. He's friendly and remembers faces well. The scheduling is done through ZocDocs, so you can easily find a time that works, book it, pre-fill forms, and get reminders before you go. I've been a few times and never waited more than a few minutes. Twice, I've been seen before my official appointment time. It's a huge shift from my old dentist, who was consistently 45-60m late. Both Drs. Said and Mir are top notch. I've only seen Said once, but Mir twice. Both were uber prompt, very explanatory, and quick to figure out and fix the problem. Billing is easy and clear. Without talking specifics, it's all very reasonable. No games. read more

Dr. Mir is great and his hygienists are the nicest people ever-- I even recommended him to all my coworkers, and they also had great experiences with him. But this time they scheduled me with the new dentist, Dr. Jassam, and I'm sorry to say that I think it's time to find a new place. I'll preface this with saying that I was 10 minutes late because the bus didn't come- I tried calling twice to let them know I'd be late, once at 12:26 but I realized they were closed for lunch, so I called again at 12:32 but still couldn't speak with anyone to inform them. Didn't seem like a big deal when I arrived though, so in I went. I was apprehensive when the second numbing needle she injected was incredibly painful, an experience I've had with other dentists before but they always paused and gave me more numbing before proceeding in the past when they noticed I wasn't quite numb enough for the needle. She carried on despite my discomfort, and seemed impatient with me. That didn't bother me a lot at first since a numbing needle is always uncomfortable, I figured she might've gone too far to add more numbing to make it easier, and I was the one who was late to begin with, so maybe she was in a rush. But then in the middle of the procedure she stuck the suction so far back in my throat that I gagged, and despite that reaction she didn't stop and said "You're good, you're good" as I gagged twice more when she continued to prod the back of my throat. At this point, combined with the numbing needle, I felt very dismissed and incapable of expressing to her when I was in discomfort. She was generally impatient with me from beginning to end and left at the end of the procedure without saying anything. I'm used to getting at least some parting remark, like "ok bye" Or "take care see you next time" but I wonder if I was such a difficult patient that she didn't want to speak to me at all anymore. The front staff who I've always found very kind and friendly also didn't look me in the eye the entire time I was checking out, so I felt very unwelcome. I recommend Dr. Mir himself though, which is why I didn't leave a single star- I just wish I hadn't had this experience so I would feel more comfortable going back. read more

Great dentist, great office! Adams Morgan doesn't scream dental hygiene. If you joke with the wrong person around here on the weekend, you could get your teeth rearranged for free. That being said, I was very happy with my routine checkup at Smile Dental DC. Dr. Said was friendly, helpful, and prompt. She asked good questions, made sure I was comfortable throughout the cleaning, and left my smile shimmering. Office is great too: clean and professional. The staff helped get my x-rays from another DC dentist, whom I shall not mention or disparage here. I really appreciated that neither the dentist nor her staff pushed unnecessary procedures. That can be common elsewhere in DC. You probably shouldn't be looking for a dentist on the same website where you look for low-priced taco stands. But if you've stumbled here today, I hope you walk away knowing that Smile Dental DC is a great dental option. read more

I've been to other dentists and have not yet found the level of care that this staff provides. This office is very modern and progressive. There is a very warm and friendly feel to the office decor and the staff. However, the office visit caused a bunch of questions and reservations and they continue. There is something about dental visits that I no longer understand. This dental visit begin with another person hanging in the wings of an office door. The woman sat down eventually. When I was called into the office to fill out paperwork my child was called to the back for xrays. The conversation about the paperwork was concise and there were just a few papers to sign. I was skeptical about talking about my personal information. The rush to xrays was more than meets the eye. I have no idea what it was really about. When I met up with my child again she was silent and very unresponsive. I had questions and I didn't know what questions to ask. The diagnosis doesn't match. It seems as if this office wants to make money off of problems that don't really exist. I didn't think anything of this until I heard an advertisement about this kind of thing on tv. I realized that this office might be in the practice of up charging. Fast Forward, I forgot to get some paperwork from this office and I returned to get it. The person who appeared to be a boss or related to a boss was following the worker around and asking her what she was doing and why she was doing it. It was known by everyone in the front that I was there to pick up paperwork. The boss was zoned in on this worker. The micro management was overwhelming to observe. read more

I recently started attending Smile Dental DC for my dental needs. In contacting the staff for an appointment, I was immediately met with a high level of professionalism. I was explained the process for new patient examinations, as well as the clinic's policies re: insurance billing and patient responsibility. I had a general idea where the clinic was located but didn't realize how conveniently located it was! When I entered the clinic, I noted how clean, tidy and welcoming the clinic was. The staff employed by Smile Dental is very courteous and helpful. I was given thorough explanation throughout my entire experience at the clinic - from new patient intake forms to X-rays to treatment plan to post-treatment care. I would highly recommend Smile Dental DC to anyone who lives, works, or spends any amount of time in or near Dupont Circle or Adams Morgan and is looking for a new dentist! read more

Dr. Hoda Said is the best dentist I've had - and I've had a lot. The staff is friendly and will work with you on payment and give you the quotes for service before service is done. This avoids that shell shock when you leave. Also, if you're like me, you are nervous at the dentist, no matter what you're there for. I feel comfortable with the doctors and staff there. They put me at ease. I've never had a bad experience here and don't expect to. If you live in Adams Morgan, it's especially convenient. read more

I was in urgent need of a crown in January 2015. A friend referred me to this place and it was conveniently located to my office. Dr. Mir was friendly. I was surprised that Dr. Mir performed the cleaning himself rather than a hygienist and it was the fastest cleaning I've ever had (read: not thorough). The crown. Food was constantly getting caught behind it. In November 2015, not even 11 months from when the crown was cemented in, it fell out. I had relocated back to Chicago so had no choice but to visit my Chicago dentist (fortunately I saved the crown). She explained that had not been very well fit, but since I couldn't afford to have a new crown made, she managed to make it fit and sit a little better and cemented it back in. Crowns are not supposed to fall out 11 months after they have been put in. Needless to say, I wasn't too happy to have to spend $350 to have a crown put back in because it wasn't done properly the first time around. Oh well.... life goes on. I decided to delay having my regular cleaning and check up done until I could get my X-rays from Smile Dental sent from D.C. to Chicago to save a major chunk of money and unnecessary additional X-rays. I called Smile Dental and asked them to send my X-rays. They sent my chart but not my X-rays. I emailed them back and asked again for my X-rays and didn't receive a reply. I called this morning and asked for them and was told they would send them right away. I finally received an email this afternoon from Smile Dental saying "Unfortunately, when trying to get acquire a new dental program to better assist our patients and all their dental needs, we lost your X-rays. There was a software incompatibility error that led to being unable to retrieve any of the patients x-rays." So, they did a terrible job on my crown. They clearly lied when they told me they would send me my X-rays. And now they admit that they can't send my X-rays because they lost them. I have written to them asking with whom I may speak to receive some compensation for all of my extra expenses due to their incompetence. Clearly I would not recommend this practice. read more

I lived in Adams Morgan for about 4 years and went here for check ups and cleanings. The service was always great and very warm. They are also very understanding when it comes to payment plans and so on. American University doesn't include dental insurance in its student health care plan so every little bit helps. read more

I went to Smile Dental for a cleaning as a first time patient and would highly recommend. I haven't gone to the dentist in a few years, but their staff were kind and talked me through everything they were doing. The wait was minimal (but I did come in at 8am so that might be why), the facilities were clean, the hygienist worked around an issue I pointed out (a sensitive gum) in a polite and helpful way while cleaning my teeth so she didn't irritate it further but still got the job done, and the location was convenient for where I live. I plan on returning in six months for my next cleaning. read more

My husband and I tried to stick it out with this place but after 3 cleanings we are switching. They barely clean your teeth, just do a quick polish and floss and you're out in 10 min. I started to notice some plaque build up on my husbands teeth even though he brushes and flosses like a maniac, so that was the final straw. Too bad since the location is so convenient! read more

This was the best dental experience I've had in years. My appointment was right on time, the staff was extremely friendly, the x-ray machine/equipment was brand new and everything felt squeaky clean. I went to this dentist because of proximity to my house and excellent Yelp reviews. Because I don't want other people to make the same mistake, here is how it went for me. I went there and was told that I had: 1. One cavity 2. Two wisdom teeth that needed to be removed 3. Periodontitis (gum disease that causes bone loss) and needed "deep cleaning" It added up to over 1000$. They took x-rays and didn't clean my teeth and charged 125$. In addition, doing the periodontal exam (with a dental probe) hurt A LOT. When I asked them to explain to me what was wrong with my gums and what I could do differently, I didn't get much of an answer, like I was bothering them with my questions. In addition, they "conveniently" didn't have any appointments after me so they were ready to start doing all of this right away. I sensed something was wrong so I said I would come back another time. Instead, I went back to a dentist I had been to before, which is less conveniently located for me. They told me I had: 1. ZERO cavity 2. Wisdom teeth are barely visible on the xrays, meaning that they are deep down, not close to erupting at all and not a concern. 3. They did tell me I had gum infections and needed deep cleaning, but I DO NOT have periodontitis and NO bone loss. Bottom line: Do not go the Smile Dental, they will try to take advantage of you!! My dentist was Dr. Mir and I don't remember the name of the hygienist. The women working at the front desk were nice though, so there's that. read more

My 1-star rating is not in response to the dentist, the work done on my teeth or the demeanor and attention I received. If that were the case, I would give 4 stars; however, during my visit, I was told by Denny, the billing assistant/receptionist that my cleaning and filling would be an addition $53 and change with my insurance coverage since cleanings are covered and standard X-rays are covered by Guardian. All payments are due at the time of service, so I wrote a check to pay at the end of my visit. About two weeks later, I received a bill from Smile in the amount $233 to pay for the X-rays and the cleaning. I was told that I was going to need an extensive cleaning and I knew this since I hadn't had a regular cleaning in about two years. After part of the cleaning was done, I was told that the polish, which is the last step of the cleaning would need to be done in about a month, so I should come back for that. I was also told that X-rays needed to be done to perform the extensive exam. What I was not told is that the kind of X-ray they would charge for was not covered by Guardian as well as the extensive cleaning. Why on earth would I write a check for a partial payment, especially when all payments are due at the time of service, if I were expecting an additional $233? Also, I came back for the polish in a month, which I was told was no charge since it was the last step of the cleaning that was not performed on my initial visit, and Smile billed my insurance for a standard cleaning when that is not what was done --- only the polish to finish up the last step from my initial visit. So, I am now appealing this claim after speaking with the billing agent Denny, who seemed offended that I actually questioned his billing and am only out to seek a discount. Perhaps Dr. Hoda is a great dentist... I wouldn't know. I booked an appointment for a cleaning because my dentist was booked, and I specifically explained this appointment was for a cleaning ONLY. I confirmed this with the scheduler specifically, and they agreed that would be fine. When I arrived for my appointment three weeks later, they asked me to complete a large number of forms and then quietly inserted, oh, by the way, we need to perform an exam. I said, no, I am only here for a cleaning (having just seen my dentist in the last two months). They said, no, as a new patient, we need to do a new patient exam. And when I asked why they never mentioned this when I scheduled the appointment, the response was: oh, sorry, but we need to do an exam. I could hear $$ signs. If they had told me that in advance, I would've waited on my dentist, and not wasted my time there. But they did not seem even a little apologetic about wasting my time-- just robotically answered that oops, sorry about the mistake. What a group of scammers. read more
