(They do all their buying in Europe.) it's definitely higher end, though I have also found some really great things on their sale rack. This is retail at its finest due to the personal attention. The owners are so sweet and very honest. (Plus, they have great taste.) They'll style you and happily bring you things if you'd like. I can always count on them - if something doesn't look good they'll let me know. I've also bought things off of their Instagram and they happily drop it off at my home in one of their gorgeous bags. That's awesome. I always leave with great styles & feeling cheerful. I have several friends who feel the same. .

It's a beautiful warm and humid day in Chicago and the walk was good. The place is very quaint and small but well lit for shopping. It's a woman's boutique specializing in European clothing. The major designer is Solar and I have not heard of it, but designs are suited for a dressier woman. Thankfully that counts me in as I work in an office where jeans are not allowed and it's conservative so the weekends I can go casual. Back to the store the sizes are European and the lady at the counter (I am assuming is the owner) was very kind to tell me that 34 is usually x-small, 36 is small and 38 is medium. I'm usually a medium but some of her clothing allow for a 34 when I tried on a pair of white slacks. It had a great fit, but buying white is difficult because the material may be more revealing than you might like. Her clothes has many price points as she indicated and sales from the previous season is 20% off. Her summer selection drove me to walk in full of blight yellows, pink, and orange. Do stop in if you're in the neighborhood and support local small businesses!

If I could give zero or negative stars, I would. This store and its ownership lack any semblance of…read morebusiness integrity or savvy. Shop there at your own risk, but I recommend you don't. Loads of other small business bead shops in the Chicagoland area won't scam and condescend to you. Visit #1 - Joe helped me select some beads and supplies, totaling $322. Toward the end, it got hectic, and all employees were preoccupied. I needed to get somewhere, and I had some questions to ask before finalizing my purchase. I eventually gave up, realizing they were too busy, and decided to purchase the items I had and return if I needed more. I told Joe I needed to leave to get somewhere on time and I'd like to check out. Instead of beginning the checkout process, he upsold me on other items. The checkout process took 15 minutes as they do not have an electronic register and process transactions manually. At no point did Joe mention that the checkout process would take longer than is typical when I said I needed to leave. I felt like I wasn't listened to and was being sold to without regard for my time or business. Throughout our interaction, I mentioned that I was new to beading and was purchasing supplies for a jewelry-making party. I mentioned that I wasn't sure I needed all these supplies and may need to return some. At no point did anybody mention the return policy is store credit or exchange only. Visit 2 - A week later, I had returns to make, about $99 worth. I called to ask about the return policy and was informed it was only an exchange or store credit. I politely asked if an exception could be made, considering this was not communicated before completing my purchase. The person I spoke with said she would ask the owner and call me back. They never called me back. I went in person with my boyfriend and we spoke with Joe. I told him I had items I needed to return and asked if it would be possible for an exception to be made to the policy, since I wasn't told the policy before they completed my transaction. He said no, that they only offer exchange and store credit. When I asked why an exception couldn't be made, he said, "Because that's how we've always done it." My boyfriend asked again if he would consider making an exception and Joe said he would ask Ayla. He went to the back to ask and returned, saying that Ayla said they would make an exception. I was appreciative, and we went to the counter to process the return. He used the card reader to attempt a return but kept getting an error message, and he said he did not know how to process a return. Regardless of whether a business offers returns/refunds, it is essential to understand the key functions of your systems. Eventually, we gave up trying to process the return, and he once again offered store credit and explained that the return policy was on their receipts. I told him that having the return policy only listed on the receipt and nowhere else when the return policy is no returns is not helpful because, at that point, the transaction is complete, and nothing can be done. This does not allow people to decide whether they want to make a non-returnable purchase. He responded, saying, "Well, we're a small business; we don't just want people to pay and to just say to them 'thank you for your money.'" (implying there is no way to get that money back now.) And yet there we were, in that exact situation. We asked if we could get our refund in cash. Mind you, there was a sign on the counter that said, "We're a small business, we prefer cash." implying they accept cash and likely have it in the register. He said he would ask Ayla. He went to the back once more, which is separated from the store by a curtain. Shortly after he went back, we heard Ayla (the owner) SCREAMING "NO. NO!! ABSOLUTELY NOT! I DON'T HAVE A HUNDRED DOLLARS! I'M NOT GIVING THEM ANY MONEY! I'M WITH A CLIENT!" and on and on and on. Everybody in the store could hear her. Joe returned and told us that wouldn't be possible, to which I said, "Oh, don't worry, I heard her." At this point, we had been there too long. I should have asked to speak directly to Ayla to resolve the issue and address her abhorrent behavior, but at this point, all I wanted was to leave and never return. Unfortunately, I caved and accepted store credit, which Joe insisted I did not need to use that day and could return and use any time. Did he think I would ever want to make a trip here again? As I tried to gather items for exchange, Joe felt it necessary to say, "You know this is one of the strands you returned." Yes, I know, but that was when I thought I could get a refund. This entire time, I remained polite and tried to offer feedback for a better experience, but was only condescended to. After leaving, I discovered they broke my debit card with their machine! It kept declining, and my bank said it was showing as "expired" despite the exp. date being months away. Don't waste your time or money here.

Don't trust this company! Scam likely!…read more I placed an order for the Nike AlphaFly Laser Orange shoes on Jan. 30th, after clicking on an ad for the exact same shoe on Commonwealth's Instagram ad. 2 weeks later (Feb. 13) I notice there is still no shipping information. I contact them and they said "it was an error because we accidentally shipped the shoes to someone else but we have them now and we are shipping them out today." Shortly after I got an email saying my order was on its way. Delivery date said today ( Feb. 18). So today I arrive home and don't see a package. So I click the UPS link and it says "printing label created." So I call commonwealth and they say that the item has been shipped. I inform them that the ups tracker says they haven't received a package. That only a label had been printed. Commonwealth then did some "research" and found that they don't even have the shoe that they were selling. I was informed by a manager that "Nike used the same color label for a shoe that they don't have." However, the shoe in the ad, and the shoe that I ordered off of their website said the correct information. They informed me that they don't have the shoe and won't be able to fulfill the order. They offered me a store credit for a $300 pair of running shoes I purchased from them that they don't even sell. Don't trust this company. Order from a more reputable company who takes pride in honesty, integrity, and customer satisfaction. Very disappointed with the experience.

However, after my visit today, I will no longer be patronizing this business. After trying on several items, I wanted to purchase a dress. However, said item had hairs on it, to a noticeable degree (the customer checking out next to me agreed). Besides being obviously unhygienic, I was worried about allergies, as I am alergic to cats and wondered if somebody with an animal had tried it on previously. When I got up to the front and asked for an additional 10% off for this (as I would need to have it cleaned before wearing), the owner played the nut role and made me repeat my request by saying, "Well, what do you want me to do about it?" When I reiterated my request, she silently rang me up and presented my $124 worth of merchandise without so much as a thank you or a smile. Obviously, in a snit. I chewed on this, went to the bathroom and then calmly said to her that I was a regular customer, had been for years, and I wondered (since during my previous visits, I have never gotten the full service that the older white customers seem to get, as I can hear them being helped and conversed with while I am not checked on) whether she would be acting like she was doing me a favor by selling to me if I wasn't black. Just as a "shot in the dark", so to speak, since she was so short-tempered and rude to me. And she said, "Let's not go there." Which is not an apology. Or even a proper rebuttal, I might add. Now, in my experience, as a 50-year-old black woman working and living in virtually all white spaces my entire life, when people say something like that to you, in a dismissive, hostile tone, that you have struck a nerve. Especially when you are not even given the benefit of eye contact. Which is to say, I was right. They have many a good sale here as of late, no doubt due to the state of the economy and the lack of interest in brick and mortar stores. My hope, however is that when you patrons out there DO go to a retail space in person, you choose one that treats ALL customers with the respect, kindness and humanity no doubt EVERYONE deserves. Which certainly can't be found at Accents Plus. Who should settle for anything less?
