Wings done

Decided to have nice night out. Didn't know I would receive a 2 for 1. The service was awesome and lively (at the daiquiri and wing spot). The ambiance is nice the cover change was $5.00 atm and there is an outside patio area to sit. The music was Banging! and the drinks are flavorful to many options to count. Only drink 1 (2 if you live close by) lol. Can't wait to enjoy the vibe again! Parking was easy to find

Deliciousness! Fried fish, whole garlic parm wings, and tots. Plus the Nashville hot sauce on the side.

Good on point! Really hit the spot for some casual dining of friend food. Had the fried fish and it measures up. Husband had the garlic parm whole wings and they too were great! We will return and the service was fast. And don't forget to ask for some of the Nashville hot sauce-delicious!

We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked through the door. Our order was taken immediately, I love how short & simple the menu is while still adding their own unique touches to certain burgers. They also serve chicken, fish, and tacos. My food was amazing. The burger was much more than expected and worth the $8, with the side of fries for $2 were beer battered. I went and got a daiquiri next door at Velvet freeze next door, because they are two businesses combined into one. I'm glad we came early because the line was almost out the door in the rain by 7 p.m. I definitely see why, I don't hand out 5 stars often, but when I do you can bet your tastebuds it's worth it!

Just a few doors up from 18th Street on Vine is Smaxx. A small diner serving grilled and fried foods. It contains about 8 or so booths and displays photos and framed articles and advertisements of KC history on the walls. I ordered the Bacon Onion Burger with rings. The rings were pretty basic mass produced frozen fare, but the burger was outstanding. A very large patty seasoned and grilled, with tons of fried onions, bacon, lettuce, pickle, and tomato. Very friendly service and local owned in KC's most historic neighborhood. Plenty of reasons to pay Smaxx a visit.

This was my second time visiting Smaxx. This time I got the "Fried Fish Basket". Let me say I was not disappointed and I had enough to share with the office. It was fried to absolute perfection and it was cooked fresh while I was there. This will definitely be my go to when I visit Samxx.

The KC burger is everything that it's cracked up to be, and more. Seriously great burger without any sauce. The onion ring is a really good addition. Fries are fresh and seasoned well. Gotta go back and try more!

Meet the owners who were awesome. velvet freeze daiquiri. Very beautiful ambience. Wish you much success

Looking for a great authentic burger. The KC Burger was excellent. Visiting from California and meet the owners of Smaxx and The Velvet Freeze Daiquiri. They were very friendly and stopped to make sure we were okay and talked to our family about the history. If you are visiting the historical 18th & Vine make sure to grab a bite at Smaxx and visit the Velvet Freeze Daiquiri next door for a refreshing treat. Ambience is great and music is awesome! Wishing much success. California visitor

Wanted to be sure to try this spot since we missed the chance last time and it did NOT disappoint. We ordered wings, a burger and a philly. Wings: on point. Cooked well and seasoned well. Came with fries, not many in our party liked the fries but we did have to drive them back to our hotel (20 mins) so that could have been a factor. Also, HEADS UP when you order wings you have to order ranch ( 18 wings ordered and we had to pay extra for ranch¿ ) Burger and Philly: both were seasoned well and very good. Only thing missing...(again)...CONDIMENTS no mayo, mustard special sauce anything. BUT obviously the food was GOOD because we still ate it and enjoyed it. I just prefer my sandwiches UN-DRY

The team was very busy having multiple tables at once, the bartender as well she had the bar and a section or two of tables, she was nice enough to advise us of that. I like when servers and everyone are honest and don't leave you hanging, we had enough time to review the menu we ordered drinks and our food, the wait for the food was awhile but with it because it was so good! I ordered the chicken biscuit with the hot honey chipotle sauce with a scrambled egg on top. The food was amazing! And even though the bartender was busy she was helpful and friendly, I would definitely recommend this place is your in downtown Kansas City, next time I'm in town I will definitely be back!

It's unique and delicious - especially the focaccia it is served on! They have several very delicious vegetarian options as well! Parking is hard on River Market on the weekends, so incorporate brunch into a whole day of adventure in River Market. Parking is more accessible on weekdays.

When we arrived, it was a little quiet, so we sat at the bar. The two bartenders working were welcoming. One of them asked if we were there to eat, handed us menus, and then let us know what wasn't in stock. It was a little weird that they were out of chicken quarters, pasta salad (or was it potato?), burgers (maybe that's a testament to their popularity), and bacon... Thankfully, the mac & cheese was available, so the mission wasn't a fail. The plus was that it came with a side of fries, and not just any-- they were seasoned sidewinder fries, for those of you who are fans of thicker potatoes. I had the Italian po-boy, which I really enjoyed. I thought they constructed it well, and the spicy relish wasn't too much heat if you're worried about that. It was definitely the right amount of food, too. I was able to clean the plate and not regret the last bite. At this point, they've been open for 8 months, so I think they've worked out the kinks, but we also showed up on a Wednesday night, so service was great and attentive. It might be different on weekends, but I'd come back to try more things on the food menu.

We didn't try any food, but there is a menu other bar food available. Loved the view of the river and the convenience. A great stop for pre- or postgame or for a lovely outdoor drink.

First, the vibe is so intimate and cozy. Getting in without reservations is tough unless you go at an odd hour. And if they do let you in, don't test them on the your time limit. Be extra grateful and make it easy so they can seat the actual pre-reserved folks. The place is small enough and the service is nearly 2:1, so they'll definitely remember you. With that said, we tried it best to be on good behavior but that Sake flight had us feeling spicy! Which I'll speak to next, the sake flight delightfully surprised me, and gave me a few things I liked enough to order again. Did not expect that. But I shouldn't be surprised, they're obviously going to have something wildly well-curated, given the successful history of Anjin's creator. I know I'm supposed to talk about the food. But it almost feels pointless. It was obviously amazing. It's a small curated menu. They're famous for their sandwich, whatever rotation they're serving will be sure to please you. They didn't have a lot of vegan options on the menu so my friend got the cabbage dish and it was absolutely wonderful as well. That might be my only watch out if somebody is a vegan, check out the latest menu before going. With such a curated, small menu it may or may not be in a vegan's favor depending on the season. And if it's not, just drink more sake! Can't wait to return, especially with those visiting from out of town to give them an authentic, locally-owned experience.

I did some research beforehand and saw that The Town Company received a James Beard nomination and had numerous glowing reviews, so I made sure to make a reservation a week in advance. The previous night, he had treated me to The Restaurant at 1900, which was fantastic, so we were expecting a meal of that caliber. That was not the case. To begin, the ambiance was fine. It was your typical, trendy upscale hotel restaurant that is dimly lit and has an open kitchen. We ordered the signature rolls, beef tartare, apple endive salad, and short rib-filet plate. After the rolls, everything went downhill, which was a huge disappointment. As for the rolls...who doesn't like a buttery, shokupan-like bread? The cultured butter they came with had a nice tang, but the carrot spread tasted like a salty, carrot-ginger soup concentrate. Not my favorite. After the bread was served, all of the other dishes were served so slowly that we wondered if they had forgotten us. While we were waiting, a server brought us the wrong dish and wordlessly took it away when we politely told them that we hadn't ordered it. Now that I think about it, the waitstaff here reminded me of the employees at Le Labo--same brand of aloof. The apple endive salad could have been delicious, but the amount of dressing overpowered its contents. All I could taste was a sweet, overly-acidic poppyseed dressing reminiscent of a store-bought bottle of Brianna's. I rarely complain that food is overseasoned, but that was the case with the salad and the next dish, the beef tartare. The beef tartare was so overloaded with lime, ginger, chili, lemongrass, and other spices that we couldn't really taste the beef at all. It reminded me of larb, which I wouldn't be mad at if I were ordering a LARB, not an overpriced beef tartare. The most disappointing plate of the night by far was the short rib and filet plate. Upon asking our waitress how many plates we should order, she told us that three small plates and one main dish would be more than enough, since the main, protein-centric dishes were "substantially larger." We were very wrong. We each got a small bite of short rib and one thumb-sized chunk of filet, which was served with--you guessed it--an overly salty, uninspired red wine sauce and giant, salt crystals. The parsnips and brussels sprouts were just...there. By the end of the meal, neither of us could hide our disappointment and decided to opt out of dessert. They brought us a complimentary after-dinner "truffle," which, to me, tasted like artificial fruit cereal and Pop Rocks coated in white chocolate. It was extremely underwhelming and gimmicky, and frankly, I haven't left a restaurant feeling pissed in a while. I was expecting a lot more from the Leach team and probably won't be back, but happy for the folks who enjoy this restaurant.

We started with a vanilla oat milk latte, which was perfectly made -- smooth, rich, and not overly sweet.
