The mini golf is different. It is neon glow style and you can play with 3-D glasses but we didn't play with them. There are 9 holes with the last one being a ball collector so make sure you only use this when you are done. We may have played through a few times to get our moneys worth. Most of the games are a dollar or more per play which is hard for me as I am older and remember when games were a lot less but those are the times. We still had fun and will likely be back. We got a few tickets, around 2,000 but as typically we were not able to get much with our tickets. They do have a lot of options but just not much we were interested in.

Instead of ordering drinks at the bar, you start a tab by leaving your credit card with the cashier. They give you a tap card that lets you pour your own drinks. You can sample just a little or fill up a whole glass. It's completely up to you. They have everything from beer and wine to a few craft cocktails on tap. If you want to try something different, you can swap out your glass and keep exploring. The same tap card also activates all of the arcade games, which I thought was a really cool touch. It makes everything feel connected instead of having to carry around a bunch of tokens or cash. When I visited, they were hosting trivia night. It definitely brought in a crowd. Most of the tables were full, so walking around got a little tight because the space isn't very big. Even so, the atmosphere was lively. It felt like everyone was having a good time. I ended up trying the Cranberry Mule, which I really enjoyed. It was nice being able to pour just the amount I wanted instead of committing to a full drink. Overall, I had a really fun time here. I think what I liked the best about the experience for the party, was that our hostess walked the kids around to the rides and through the arcade so they could familiarize themselves with the layout of the Boardwalk. As I was talking with the adults, we were discussing competitors like Bowlero and Lucky Strike and how unreasonably priced it is for a family of four now a days. Just the arcades there are so expensive! Here, the kids were able to make their tokens last for hours and walked away with some fun prizes too. I hope the prices never get ridiculously high here. Round1 is a Japanese chain that has really taken off here in the US. We love manga and anime so checking it out felt like a must. We were blown away by the size and number of machines. The staff was friendly and we had a great time. Since then we checked out one other location that is about equal distance north from us in Mission Viejo. When we went on Sep 15 for my daughter's 9th birthday (we let her skip school) this was our 3rd time at R1 and 2nd time at this location and there was an employee who went above and beyond to seal the deal as this being our favorite location, his name was Nick. He was beyond kind to our family and happily repositioned a couple plushies that got stuck in corners and let our 6 year old exchange a frog plush that had a snag in the fur. My kids kept pointing him out and waving whenever they saw him. Super nice! my daughter also asked Mr Nick if he could put some colors of these little cat plushies down from the display part of a chibi machine bc she wanted an orange and gray to match her irl kitties and he did it, no problem. This made our birthday girl very happy and she squealed after eventually managing to get them both and said they were her favorite prizes of the day--and yes I know that the staff will reposition if you ask but Nick was just so nice about it and didn't make us feel in any way that we were annoying him. We also had fun watching him fixing a machine, something my kids and I just found interesting and were so impressed at how good he was at picking up the prizes. We have eaten ramen and takoyaki all over San Diego and LA and I will say that Round 1's ramen and takoyaki far exceeded my expectations at least for what and where it is The only downside about today is that about 1/4 of their crane machines were out of order when we last went. Overall we had a great couple hours and I even overcame my anxiety and tried my hand at a couple skill and big claw games (I think they're called big Gemini) which I had previously been too scared to try! My kids were very pleased with their haul, sleeping with all their new plushies and as she was falling asleep my 6 year old muttered "That Mr. Nick sure was nice".

What should have been a special night for my nine-year-old son turned into one of the worst experiences we've ever had at a birthday party. The facility was unbearably hot during a San Diego heat wave. I specifically asked if the AC was working and was told it was running at maximum capacity. Employees later told us the AC apparently hasn't worked for months. Check-in was chaotic despite completing our waivers beforehand, and during the races, one child's kart battery died and he was unable to finish--with no replacement race or accommodation offered. But the worst part was the behavior of the supervisor, Will. One of the fathers in our group unknowingly brought in an outside drink. The moment he was told it wasn't allowed, he threw it away without an issue. Despite complying, Will continued to confront him aggressively. When I approached to understand what was happening and de-escalate the situation, Will became aggressive and intimidating toward me as well, standing extremely close to me and speaking to me in a completely inappropriate manner. This happened in front of our children, moments before we were supposed to sing Happy Birthday. The situation escalated to the point that law enforcement became involved, and I will be filing an official police report. We spent a significant amount of money on the party, additional races, food and drinks, and consistently tipped the employees helping us. To have my son's birthday end this way was absolutely unacceptable. I am asking K1 Speed corporate management to investigate this incident, speak with the employees who witnessed it, review the surveillance footage, and address the ongoing AC issue. No family should spend this kind of money on a child's birthday party only to leave feeling threatened and unsafe. I would not recommend this location to another family.
