    Smashing Eats store front.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Tasty food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] HORRIBLE customer service. Had a line from the counter to the door. No one was behind the counter to wait on and/or take in-store customer orders. Several men came out the kitchen, sweaty, and didn't speak to any of the customers. I finally asked one of the men if they could assist us. He simply said, "I'm not the cashier." That set another customer off who started yelling for the manager. Manager finally came out and apologized. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Smashing Eats is basically a dumpster fire and a train wreck that serves tasty food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wonder if it's actually a front company for a money laundering cartel.

Amazing hidden gem! Me and a friend stopped in today to try this place for the first time. The gentleman at the front was very kind and welcoming. It was the type of restaurant you may sit and have an intimate lunch with a friend because it's clean and inviting, but it's not the type you go to for a vibe. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Let me tell you about the food!! I got the veggie plate, and I never eat greens but wow the entire plate was so flavorful and delicious at a fair price.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also got the Rasta pasta with no meat and also so flavorful. It's much better than Rasta pasta I get elsewhere because it has a nice amount of jerk sauce present to create a tasty heat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This will be a new go-to place, and I'm glad I didn't read the yelp reviews before I went because some of the others are discouraging and the complete opposite of our experience.

We parked behind the building and a woman who worked there had the door open. She had on a shirt that read Legalize being Black. My husband had on a Black Lives Matter shirt, & I had on a Juneteenth shirt. She smiled and raised her fist at us as we asked to enter through the door and we responded in kind. I love us! She toke U.S. to grab a menu as we walked in to the right of the bar. We found a high top and found what we wanted and went to the counter to order. The prices are reasonable until you get to adding the sides. I overheard another worker tell a couple who ordered after us to order the veggie plate if they were getting 4 sides as it was cheaper. I wish the person who took our order had told use that. The entrees are à la carte and priced reasonably. The sides are $5 each with a few exceptions, a hoecake is $2 and mac & cheese and a couple other sides are $6. Keep that in mind when you come. Our total for our inside dining with a can of ginger ale, fountain Diet Coke, & tip was like $70+ & the to go order for our son's meal w/o a drink was ~$30. It's definitely a good value if you only need an entree and have sides already. The food is good and has large pieces of meat & decent portions so there you go... I ordered the fried green tomatoes as a starter, smoked beef brisket with the barbecue sauce on the side, smoked turkey cabbage, dressing, & the lemon pound cake. Ironically, the fried green tomatoes came out last. They were piping hot though. They could've used a dash of salt but that cornmeal batter was perfection on the tomatoes. You get 3 and 1 was cut a little too thick and it was slightly mushy maybe cause it had to cook longer? But it was still good. The beef brisket was good. It's sliced thin and had that good smoke flavor and was seasoned well. The thicker slices could've been a bit more tender but overall it could rival some barbecue joints. The dressing was good and so was the cabbage, though it was almost tad bit saltier than I'd like. I'd order everything I had again. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed my food. You know not everyone who claims to cook southern food can do so. Oh the pound cake was good and moist. It reminds me of Sammy Chhesecake pound cake. My husband ordered the 3 pieces of fried chicken, collard greens & they do have a lil kick as the menu suggests, green beans, & yellow rice. He was pleasantly surprised with how big the pieces of chicken were. Nowadays people give you what looks like pigeon parts ‍. He said it was a tad salty. He said he also enjoyed his meal otherwise. I forgot to get pictures of the food for our son's takeout order of fried pork chops, collard greens, mac & cheese, & a hoecake. He liked his food as well but also said his pork chops, which were nice size center cut, were well seasoned, but a little too much. He enjoyed the meal and his 1st hoecake. They also do catering and seemed to have a large catering order being prepared to go out. The restaurant & woman's restroom was clean. The staff were friendly and quickly acknowledged us. The music was good but it would've been good to hear a mix of old school with the hip hop since it was Juneteenth. They have a full bar. The only thing I didn't like was Fox News & another conservative news channel on; at least not on JuneteenthZ a generic movie or TV show would've been better for me anyway. They had a steady stream of to go orders and in person dining. I guess we're just late to know about

When I walked in, the restaurant was busy, and it was obvious they had a lot of orders to handle. She was friendly, engaging, and never seemed overwhelmed despite leading the team and keeping everything running smoothly. That's the kind of customer service that leaves a lasting impression. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was welcoming, and I can definitely see why this place stays busy. The sweet potato pie, was flavorless. It tasted like a bland custard. July 27th visit..tried the meatloaf again. It was horrible. The mashed potatoes tasted sour, they ran out of cornbread so I asked for some white bread, the server, gave me a crazed look and said..I will see what I can do...the sweet potatoes were bland, and very little...i purchased a piece of white layered cake , with orange colored icing...the cake was definitely stale, and cold from constant refrigeration, which is to simply hide the staleness....i will never ever eat at another big daddy,s restaurant again...the cashier, before she ran up my purchase, asked me if I don't mind reading and answering a question displayed on the cash register monitor screen...that question was how much would you like to Tip.....not did you find everything ok...is there anything thing else I can do for you.. No simply how much do you want to tip.. Avoid this old national location at all Cost. The food is simply repulsive....and yes I gave a tip of 4.00 dollars to the cashier. And $10.00 dollars to the older cute waitress, who was so rude. She didn't say even thankyou..Avoid at all Cost. I recall around 2017..bid daddy had a restaurant location downtown, near the courthouse...i and my co workers went to try his food. I ordered spaghetti and to my surprise they put bbq sauce in their spaghetti.....all these years and their food and service is still on the bottom I

I'll have to give them another try when it's not a national holiday, even though surprisingly yet not, they were pretty busy. The place is pretty spacious and it's located in a known area in the southwest side of Atlanta, which made me excited because me getting soul food on this side of town hasn't failed me yet. The restaurant has booths to sit down and whole layout of cake assortments on tables leading up to the line to order your food. They looked delicious. Customer service was good. The young lady ringing us up was polite, communicative with the rest of the staff regarding orders and making sure everything was running smoothly, and corrected our orders with a smile and warmth since there a small mishap. The older lady fixing my food was nice as well, but I feel like she couldn't hear me because I said I wanted two turkey wings instead of one. For some reason, she dumped the original plate she was fixing that was correct and started over. Anywhoo... I ordered the Oxtails over yellow rice, yams, and macaroni and cheese. I ordered an extra side of yams for my little one. All meals come with cornbread. My mom ordered the Baked Turkey Wing over Rice with Yams and Collards. Her review: turkey wing was decent, yams were slamming, and her collards were good. She ate all of her food. As for my food: yams- 10/10! The best thing on my plate aside from the cornbread. The mac and cheese- 7/10; flavorful yet too runny/"wet" like it needed a smidget more time in the oven since it was super soft and not quite done. Again, it was good especially mixed with the yams cause I like when my macaroni touch my yams. The oxtails, 6/10. I'm sorry, I was disappointed. They were tender and had a decent flavor. I believe they put too much liquid smoke in them or something because they tasted more Smokey than stewed or southern style. My yellow rice was disgusting. 0/10. Too hard, it tasted and smelled funny, incorrect seasonings since whatever the seasonings or herbs that were there were horrible. I couldn't do it and that's rare for me! It messed up the full oxtails experience. Will I be going back? Yes, because I believe in second chances when it comes to spots like this. Overall: 7/10

I ordered through DoorDash and went with the turkey wing with macaroni and cheese along with the oxtails. I also chose cornbread as my bread option. The turkey wing and mac and cheese were solid. My only feedback is I wish it were more clear what came with rice and gravy. I ended up with double rice because I did not realize the oxtails already came on a bed of rice. The oxtails were a decent size but there were only two pieces and both were mostly fat. The flavor overall was okay. It was not bad at all but it did not completely blow me away either. The cornbread was the biggest disappointment. It came wrapped in foil and was both burnt and soggy at the same time. It was so overcooked that someone had to have seen it was not up to standard and still decided to cut it and serve it. For a place that prides itself on being a homemade style restaurant, that was surprising. Even with that, I would still try them again. It was a Sunday so maybe I just caught them on an off day. The food was filling and I can see why people talk about them. I am willing to give them another shot.

If anything, I took it as a good sign. I noticed people weren't leaving or giving up on the line, they were staying and waiting, and to me that says the food must be good. Now let's get into the food... because this is where they really shine. I've had a lot of soul food around Atlanta, and I can honestly say flavor can be hit or miss depending on the place. But whoever is in that kitchen here, they are doing their thing. Everything tasted very homemade, like real deal, cooked with love type of food. The cornbread gave very much old school, just right. The peach cobbler? Absolutely outstanding. It's actually rare to find a restaurant peach cobbler that truly tastes homemade, and this one definitely did. That alone would make me come back. We ordered the beef meatloaf, mac and cheese, collard greens, lima beans, and dressing. The dressing was especially good, again very homemade and full of flavor. The only small thing I would mention is there wasn't any gravy on the dressing, and I would've loved that. The meatloaf was good, but could've used a bit more sauce since it was just a pinch overcooked. Outside of that, everything was really good. The food was flavorful, the portions were solid, and the prices were very affordable. Overall, I'd definitely rate this place highly. I truly enjoyed it and will be coming back.
