Tried this place for the first time and it was amazing. Staff was super friendly and they had so many options! The line was pretty long when I went, but they went through everyone pretty fast. Food was amazing and hot. I got the curry chicken and they even added some sauce to the rice which was amazing. It does have bone in so just make sure when giving to little ones to take it off the bone. My only complaint is one of the pieces were pretty pink, but that's the only piece a saw like that. I would never order from here again. The service is so slow the servers move with no urgency. The lady working the line would literally stand back to take a bite to eat then resume when she feels like it. That's annoying especially with two people in the line. It took about 15 minutes to be served. Let it slide whatever was really craving oxtails. Finally it's time to pay for my order after standing for so long and I'm told to go and get my own beverage out the fridge behind the counter because the worker didn't feel like walking down the line. It was a typical Jamaican spot, small, native music playing in the background, and the smell of great food! I decided on the oxtails....big mistake! The tails were tough and full of gristle! I work at the airport an someone invited me here for lunch on a late Saturday afternoon. Due to Atlanta construction, what normally would have been a 15 min drive turned into 35 minutes. Thankfully this was some of the best Jamaican food I'd ever had. I had the ox tails with rice and cabbage. It was soooo good. I also had one of their chicken patties. That patty was so good Id eaten it before I was fully out the parking lot and through the red light. There is a buffet line where you can see all the food that is available for ordering. Since my last review I've tried some other items that's definitely worth taking about. Recently, I stopped in to pick up food for friend. Saw for the first time and tried there Sweet Thai Chili Wings. It's lightly breaded wings coated in a sweet Thai chili sauce. Has the perfect balance of sweetness with little spicy kick to it. OMG..... amazing delicious!I'm one who can't handle food too spicy so when I say it's the perfect little kick.... it's really is. Had my Jamaican picky foodie friend try it and he thought it was really good too. Next item was there Chicken Noodle Soup. Visited as they were listed on Yelp Take Out Week and I wanted to support. However, the staff didn't know anything about it so I didn't get the 30% discount mentioned. I was told their register only provides up to 20 percent off which was fine with me. I did let the young lady know so if someone comes that they are aware of the special. This is strictly a take out location and likely due to Covid. It looks like there were tables and chairs as some were placed on the corner so maybe when the pandemic is done, people can dine here again. It's a red building off Tara Blvd. I arrived around 7:30pm and there was no line but not long after I started to order, there were ten people in line behind me so this is a popular spot. People social distanced inside when ordering. Round social distancing signs were on the floor. There's no frills. It's a caferia style so you can see the food behind the plexiglass. I do wish they offered yams though. I ordered the goat platter and the curry platter. Both come with rice or red beans and rice, cabbage and a few plantains. The food is decent. They give plenty of food and are generous with the sauce over the rice. The flavor of the sauces were good and just enough spice. The rice and beans are a tad dry. I probably wouldn't do the drive here but if I'm nearby and want Jamaican food, I may stop by for a plate. read more

That really was fantastically good. The south-side needs to be a little more vocal about excellent dining experiences like this. My north-side friends need to know the goodness that awaits them here. The environs may not look like much, but that may be the best ox tail I've ever had. My friend had the curried chicken. It was fall off the bone tender, as was my ox tail. Absolutely delicious. Seasoned perfectly. There are many things on the lunch menu to try. A wide selection of carbs and proteins. I also had a "beef patty," a hand-held meat pie. (They also have chicken and veggie pies.) Also delicious. Make sure you get some plantains. And if you're into spicy, they'll make you very very happy. In fact, get some jerk wings in addition to your meal. Call it an appetizer. Kaboom! Let me start by saying that Fireside Jamaican is THE BEST JAMAICAN restaurant on the south side (Jonesboro). I have been to every Jamaican spot around just to be disappointed. I always order the large oxtail only for $40... and baYYYY-BE this is always on point. They fill the container up with so many oxtail and that finger licking gravy that you want to go back for me. The meat is sooooo tender and delicious it falls right off the bone and its sooooo flavorful. Now even though I had one hiccup in the past with the beef patties being so burnt that they crumbled apart, the rating was not affected because when we called to let them know, they were understanding and immediately replaced them on our next visit. Customer Service EXCELLENCE Always Great Service ...and the wait is never too long. I really have oxtails at least 2-3 times a month. My daughter had a taste for Caribbean food and I found this cute little hole in the wall on yelp. It's only 5 minutes from my house. The rice and peas were dry and hard, the cabbage was dry and crispy. The jerk sauce was the thickest I've ever had and so overpowering. If I HAD to choose, the cabbage was the better of the two. Fireside is quite the hidden gem, literally the only spot in the South of Atlanta open until 11pm! UMmmm this is pure treasure when you can't quite make up your hungry mind and all Caribbean restaurants in the surrounding area close at 9pm. So I strolled into Fireside around 10:20pm elated because it exists and open late. I was greeted by a young woman who was very welcoming and knowledgable. The food is displayed in a glass window so you know for a fact what's available, YAy! As my stomach happily growled, I ordered Escovitch Red Snapper which is a whole crispy fried fish covered in spicy pickled onions, red peppers, green peppers, and carrots. I paired it with rice and beans, cabbage, plantains, and as per my request, it was drowned in curry shrimp gravy. Oh my mouth is watering as I reminisce! Anyhow, all the flavors were on point, the Red Snapper was fried to perfection, the flavor was exceptional because it did not have a fishy flavor aka they know how to clean and marinate the hell out of the Snapper. The rice and peas had a deep coconut flavor on its own and with the curry gravy. The cabbage was crunchy and fresh. The plantains were a fried a little too hard but it worked well with the moisture the food provided. The price was about 14 bucks and worth it to me. The serving size is enough for two people to eat twice. A plus-- this spot allows you add extra fish, meat, and everything else for a few extra dollars. My coworkers where raving about this place. So we decided to try it. I'm not sure if our food was just reheated but it looked better than it tasted. For lunch I ordered the oxtail plate with rice and beans and greens since they were out of cabbage. It was $9 which wasn't bad for lunch. The best part about the meal was the gravy. The oxtails were tough, the rice was okay, the greens I did not care for and the plantains were hard. This is my first time eating a plantains that I did not like. They were cut too thick. The veggie patty was confusing. It was made with mixed veggies that I'm use to seeing come out of a can. I expected the food to be more authentic. I work for a doctors office and we all were debating calling to inform someone that we did not enjoy our food at all. We ended up throwing more than half of it away. I have been here a few times now over the past year and overall I love the food. Out here in Georgia and around Atlanta, there are TONS of Jamaican spot and as a descendent of a family straight from the island it is hard to find Grandma's or Aunties cooking. This place still is not that but it gets pretty close sometimes. The portions are BIG. Prices are high like most Jamaican restaurants and the workers in general have been pretty nice. They only reason I'm really giving four stars is because sometimes sitting in there to eat there are a few "pesty" flies, even though the place has seemed to be very clean. I will still frequent this place but mainly for the specific platter of either oxtails, curry, or brown stew. Oh and they're plantains!!! AMAZING read more

I went because I was craving oxtails on a Sunday afternoon. The line was long and choices were limited. The person taking orders was inpatient maybe because they were short staffed. I placed my order and went to pay. My total was about 77.00 dollars. I get home and notice my 18.00 side of oxtail is missing. So I called no answer, called back spoke to someone who acknowledged the order was left behind but I was charged for it. I was going to return back but being with children and having to get them ready for school etc was too much to do so I asked for a refund. Well they said they don't do refunds and I'd have to speak to the manager. I was given Nancy's number she said I can come the following day for a refund if I bring my receipt. Well the next day comes I tell Nancy I'm on my way. She tells me to ask for Tara, Tara calls Nancy and says I need my receipt for a refund. I explain to her I don't have my receipt I spoke to you yesterday and the entire store was aware that I didn't get my 18.00 side of oxtail. Rather than go back and forth with the help-I'm just going to contact my credit card company and get a refund for the entire order.
