No big deal, mistakes happen--but when we pointed it out, the employee got super rude, insisting we ordered regular fries until we showed her the receipt. I've tried several varieties of each and have enjoyed them all. Beware the raw jalapenos - if you dare order them - as they do give you a nice burn. Ability to customize your sandwich with a variety of quality items is a big plus. Chicken tenders, too, are decent. The shakes, too, are delicious and the various side dishes are tasty as well. Limited soda selection but that's not why I go to a burger joint anyway. I don't have any particular complaints about this spot but I would warn that parking can be a challenge sometimes...esp. in the summertime, when everyone is out and about. The jalapeños pieces weren't too overwhelming and gave the burger just the right amount of heat. The patty was juicy (and def greasy) but I thought the taste was a bit off. Five Guys still wins for my personal fav fatty burger. The smash fries were soaked in olive oil, rosemary and minced garlic. My fiancé wasn't a big fan (the seasoning was overpowering) and I thought the amount of olive oil was an overkill - enough to leave my fries soggy. Should have stuck to regular sweet potato fries instead. Overall a legit burger chain that has some interesting menu items. I've eaten: Shake Shack, GoodBurger, Bareburger (Queens), In N Out Burger, Best Burger, BRGR in Manhattan, and that secret little dive burger place inside a hotel near Carnegie Hall, and this straightforward burger chain, beats them all! How? Why? How dare you? you ask? Well, I'll summarize this way, basically, McDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King are essentially total crap. We all know it, these companies know it. They are dying dinosaurs. And the smaller, more agile, and much better Franchises springing up among the ruins are places like 5 guys, SmashBurger, and so forth. Why are they better? The buns are real, and actually edible on their own! The meat is real ground beef, in the case of SmashBurger 100% Angus. They have real toppings, proper red juicy tomatoes, lettuce that is green in color, rather than a sliver of iceberg. They toast the bun. A necessity for all future awesome burger joints. They have kickass milkshakes (made with Haagen Daaz no less!) And what I love the most, THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT HEALTHY! Well, I take that back, if you are a totally sissy vegan, they even have a black bean burger. If you are a calorie counter, they have a chicken patty you can get, looks like a flattened/pounded chicken breast, rather than ground meat, which is good. But if you have a pair of testicles, they have BURGERS. A Big delicious patty of angus beef, slathered in butter, thrown on a grill, a bun also slathered in butter and grilled. OH YES! There's all manner of toppings, but basically I recommend you get the New Yorker, or build one out with avocado and bacon. The root beer float I had was fantastic too. I found the mostly teenage staff to be super friendly and the place was spotless. I'm also partial to places that offer vegetarian options and my spicy bean burger (sans cheese & mayo) arrived on a tasty grilled bun with fresh lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and really hot jalapenos. Usually this place would get around 3, 3.5 stars for food quality when you factor in the price and the product. This place has went downhill. Though they used to, the smash fries don't taste any different than their regular fries. Only difference is the price. Anyways, they got my burger COMPLETELY wrong tonight. Didn't notice til I got home, sat down to eat it and realized I couldn't. I ordered their BBQ bacon cheeseburger (exactly what it sounds like plus "frizzled onions") and added a fried egg. What I got was a cheeseburger with bacon, RAW ONION, PICKLES, MUSTARD, and KETCHUP. No BBQ sauce, no frizzled onions. I despise those ingredients, and am ALLERGIC to mustard, so my burger was totally ruined. And, of course, the smash fries I paid for tasted totally PLAIN. Really disappointed! The only reason I took down a star is because our server was rude to us. My friend ordered a milkshake without whipped cream, but our server brought it to us with whipped cream so we asked for it to be removed. She started arguing with us saying my friend had asked for whipped cream (my friend does not eat whipped cream so this definitely never happened), then she rolled her eyes at us, left in a huff, and brought back the milkshake in a paper cup instead of the glass. We were nothing but polite to her and literally just asked her to take off the cream, not make a new milkshake! So now we only order takeout from here. Overall- the food is great, the service is not. Not for the calorie conscious! But if you are looking for some delicious grubbin', you've come to the right place. And for those of you lucky enough to not need to count calories, at least they display the calories on their menu so that you can make a well-informed decision as you are deciding whether or not to add on a side of that rosemary&garlic fries. I like that the menu is straight forward and easy to decipher. I'm never a happy camper when it takes me more than a few minutes to glance through the menu, so Smashburger's limited (but not really) menu was perfect for me! I chose the veggie burger because I wanted to go for something healthier (ha, right!). There aren't different size options for the spicy veggie black bean burger like there are for the regular burgers, but no matter. I really liked the combination of toppings - the jalepeno peppers with the guac gave the veggie patty an extra layer of flavor and a nice zing! My only complaint, the burger was kind of awkward to eat because the patty was so much bigger than the buns. For those of you who've compared In-n-Out in California (West coast best coast, what up!) to Shake Shack on the East coast, I think you'll agree when I say that Smashburger provides a happy medium between these two chains. I ordered a New Yorker with a side of smash fries and fried pickles. Upon placing my order, the cashier hesitantly asked me, "are you with him?" gesturing to the customer at the cashier next to me. I was, in fact, eating with my friend so I replied "Yes". The cashier made a motion back to change something on the computer, but hesitated and said "nevermind, it's ok". How badly could he really mess it up? Well, we sat down and within 10 minutes, my friend has received his burger and fries. Me? Nothing, I flagged down an employee, and the manager and they both said it was on the way. My friend had finished his burger, gotten up and ordered one for someone to go and sat back down. He got his second burger, before I got mine. Finally, my burger came out. My friend had already finished, and they forgot the fries. So I had to eat those separately, instead of WITH my burger as I had intended. The manager was nice enough to give me a $5 dollar coupon for the troubles.
