This is delicious for a burger spot, 4 stars just cause it can get a little claustrophobic when it gets busy but that can easily be solved by ordering take out. Wow, this place has seriously gone down hill. Stopping by for a quick yuck late lunch, I asked for a double bacon club cheeseburger on a lettuce bun. What I saw when I got home definitely did not match the picture of what it should look like at all. Let's go over everything that went wrong here... - one single small leaf of lettuce on top and barely 1 enough to cover even half a burger on the bottom - old, barely recognizable bacon, looked more like bacon bits assembled to look like half a piece of bacon, which brings me to my 3rd point - where the bacon??? You get barely 1 slice of bacon on a double bacon club?!?!? - the patty tasted old, like i got someone else's order from an hour ago and they didn't feel like cooking up a new one - last but not least, i asked for cheese damn it! How do you screw that up? I'd say the only saving grace on my order today was the brussel sprouts. Came here for dinner recently with the family. I ordered the bacon avocado club burger bunless, my son had the smash burger and my bf had the triple double. Burgers were decent, you can definitely tell it was made from fresh beef. what I would definitely order again are the haystack onions now those were delicious! Nice, tasty, thinly sliced onions with a side of ranch. The boys also enjoyed their food, bf would order an extra patty next time because they are a bit smaller for his liking otherwise he liked it. The sweet potato fries were tasteless and soggy. I used to be a huge fan when I worked across the street from one of their stores but this food was unrecognizable. I could have bought something similar at Wendy's for 1/2 the price and probably would not have been at all disappointed. It is truly shameful what is happening to this brand. Came here with the family. We ordered two burgers and french fries. Everything was pretty decently good except for the fries. The fries were lukewarm, dry, and tasted like it's been sitting out for a long time. Overall: Great family like spot. Will be back! Motivation: I decided to try this place out for lunch because someone gifted me with a BOGO coupon. Food: had the New Jersey burger sans blue cheese and it did not disappoint! It was hearty and full of flavor (the beef was a bit too salty but not enough to take away from the overall taste value). Not sure if this burger is specific to the location or the entire region but it's definitely worth the order. The spicy mayo paired with the bacon and fried and grilled onions was delicious! I also got a small order of the rosemary truffle fries. Another solid win for the day. The actual fries are a little skinny (not quite Steak n' Shake skinny but smaller than standard). I didn't even need ketchup or hot sauce. The butter, salt and seasoning was too yum. Make sure you order these, even to share! Service/Marketing: Upon checkout (they bring the food to your table after the order is made), my receipt included a $2 coupon off my next order in the coming 2 weeks. And though I'm thankful and pleased with today's order, it's unlikely I will be back that soon. Perhaps a 30 day coupon is more realistic. Just a thought. Oh Smashburger... It's really a 2 1/2 for me but I'm rounding up. So I want to like Smashburger because it sounds cool and the restuarant has a cool vibe and the staff are all friendly and all.... but the food is just NOT good. I always think it'll be better next time and try it again but....time after time it has disappointed me. The burgers are just....dry and not juice and the toppings are just.... average. I mean, everything about this place's food is just average or below. We used to go to the one in Montclair, but my wife works near this one, so she picked it up for us last night. One of the reasons why I love their burgers is because they are really flavorful and not greasy at all. Add a little ketchup and you are good to go! Last night we got a buffet! I tried the French onion burger, wife had the chicken sandwich, her dad had the triple double. For side we got fries, we were supposed to get smash fries with extra sauce on the side, but they forgot to put it in the bag. I wanted to call them up and say something, but it was $3.50 and we weren't going all the way there for just that... We also got the onion straws and Brussels sprouts. My burger was pretty good. I added some ketchup and it was amazing! Not sure how other burger chains get it so wrong, but atleast they do it right. Wifes chicken was pretty good also. It could have been dried a little better before being put on the bun, either that or they need to change their oil. Her dad really enjoyed his burger. All the fried stuff we got besides the fries were super greasy! Like bad! It almost had enough oil on it that I could deep fry them again myself! Fries were the exception. I really wanted their smash fries, but the plain ones were pretty good. Tots were super soggy on the bottom. The ones on top were edible. Brussels sprouts could have been drained better, but good. Love the burgers and the shakes (especially when they give you the leftover from the mixing cup). Personally, if I were the employee making the shake, I'd probably keep the leftovers for myself. I recommend getting smash fries instead of regular fries because they taste much better! While placing my order I wanted a float but instead of Rootbeer ($4.29) I wanted Coke. She proceeds tell me that she would have to charge me for the coke separately. Overall this is a good burger joint. I usually get the classic smash with cheese and it's really good. The fries and haystack onions are very good as well. The shakes are delicious and worth every penny. The servers are always friendly but sometimes the line gets a bit long and there is a wait. Someone commented on the tables and they were right......it rocked so much I thought i was on a shrimp trawler in a storm! Someone tighten some screws! Lol! And they have a wider variety of burgers and toppings to choose from as well as chicken sandwiches, salads , and milkshakes than most burger joints . You could either create your own burger or choose one of their specialities. The first time I went I created my own burger and the second time I went I had the bbq,bacon and cheddar burger (specialty burger) which consisted of bbq sauce cheddar, bacon, haystack onions straws on top of a juicy burger. So I think this is my third or fourth Smashburger review...I will keep this short and sweet. I love the burgers here...yes, they smash them thin so you can't get them cooked medium or medium rare, but they're delicious and the toppings are fresh. Go with the New Jersey Burger if you like bacon and bleu cheese, you won't be disappointed. I will say that today they were a little skimpy on the bleu cheese, but I will give them a pass this ONE-TIME only because everything else was great. I love the fries-thin, rosemary and salt on them...Just.SO.DAMN.GOOD. Finally, today I had a shake that was excellent. I've been on this sweet and salty kick recently and they make a salted caramel shake. I could have ordered two and probably been good with my caloric intake for two days...but every sip was worth every step I will have to take on the treadmill or elliptical.
