Did the Thirst for Murder room with a group of 7. The whole experience was great. We really enjoyed the staff interaction which is something other companies just don't do. The room itself was fun and required a creative mind. We solved it in about 25 minutes, but still really enjoyed our time. It was the first room we've ever escaped so that made it that much better. Will definitely be going back to try the other rooms.

Good. This was the first escape room for a large portion of our group and we completed The Morning Never Comes. Not a scary room which was good as some of our group was worried about that. We did complete it in record time and it felt like there could have been more puzzles, but the goal of the rooms is more about being immersed in a story rather than completing it in record time. There is no time clock in the room and no one actually enters your room to give you the hint. Instead we were equipped with a walkie talkie. An actor introduced us to the room and was our contact who gave clarification. I liked that if we thought something was broken we could easily ask for clarification at any point and it didn't count as a hint. The room set up was very cool and well put together. The waiting room/foyer was very simple and had some games to play while waiting including a big version of Jenga. There was parking in the area, it's behind Grant Mac in a little bit of an industrial area. Look for the blue building and the entrance is on the East side. It overall was a fun family bonding experience and we all enjoyed it. Next time we are eager to try a more challenging room. Update: we completed the hardest room they have Spies and Lies and it was super good! Difficult but solvable. We completed it with only 2 minutes to spare! Don't forget to get your picture taken in the rooms after your done! A great keep sake and memory reminder of the fun had. The staff were awesome and helped set the room up so it was photo ready for us.

I absolutely adore Smartypantz. Compared to Breakout and Edmonton Escape, they come out entirely on top in terms of room design. The puzzles are appropriate to the room difficulty level, so make sure you check out the room description before you book. The hosts are my favourite part! Each room comes with an appropriately-themed host/actor, who leads you into the room, performs any activities needed before leaving, and stays in contact with you via walkie-talkie in case you need hints or guidance. In terms of the overall experience, Smartypantz delivers an exciting, fun, and often challenging approach to escape rooms. Overwhelmingly positive. I'll be back for the Dreamscape one soon!

Our family does one escape room a month and have been touring the different providers here in Edmonton. Today was our very first time at SmartyPantz and we left as happy and excited as we did after our very first room, the one that got us passionate about the hobby. The staff were friendly and the waiting room was spacious, comfortable, and offered plenty of puzzles and games. Refreshments were sold on site, which is always nice. Full-sized closets were available to store our stuff (not just lockers), which during the winter months will be a great feature. In terms of the room, we were doing "Thirst for Murder" and were really looking forward to it, as this would be the first time we'd be trying a 'movie set quality' room, and it did not disappoint. Some places we've been have had virtually no immersion factor, some have had very good immersion. Nothing so far has rivaled SmartyPantz. Not only did the room's decoration live up to the advertising, offering plenty of setting elements to engage with, but the opportunities to interact with our live Host elevated the feeling that we were "living the room" to a whole other level. The Host's magnificently improvised performance not only created a sense of place, but helped evolve the story we were involved in. It might sound weird (considering the theme of this room), but we all felt like we had developed a relationship with Beetle, even though he did end up needing to have Sad Time with us later (yup, we got made into pies for The Master, but had an amazing amount of fun doing it). The puzzles of the room are well designed, calling upon the skills of searchers and solvers equally, and each one had a sound logic to them within the story. Everything we needed was right there built into the room (a triumph of design); we just fell short this day. At this point I feel safe saying that SmartyPantz is the best escape room experience currently available in Edmonton, so: * If you have never done one before start with them. * If you are an escape room fan in the Edmonton area, get to them ASAP. * If you are a true escape room fan, make certain to take a trip to our fair city and pay them a visit. Today we were RegularPantz, but we cannot get back there fast enough, eager to challenge the next adventure!

This was the second escape room for 2 of my group of 8 and the first for the other 6. We had a great time. Our host was in a very panicky and confused character for our interactions. We did the Morning never comes room which was one of the easier ones. We did complete it with one hint but with significant time remaining. The room was really well put together. The puzzles were interesting and some of the tricks were very different. Without giving away the room, I will say that my previous room relied more on standard com locks and keys. This one had some different puzzles. My whole group was interest in a repeat event.

Spies and Lies escape room! Great fun!

It's in an older strip mall across from the Doubletree Hotel; the windows are all covered up. When you walk into Breakout, it doesn't look like much, either. It's kind of dark and it doesn't have a very "welcoming" feel, but the people who work here are pretty friendly. Sometimes you can't judge a business based on the outside. We chose to play out "The Bomb" scenario and it was actually pretty cool - Our team was split into different rooms which makes for a very different challenge compared to other escape rooms I have been to. I won't give much away, but if you are going to do this room, make sure you have a very strong team (and people who aren't afraid of small spaces). One thing we found interesting is that Breakout and Escape City have a Loyalty Card together - you can purchase it from either business - which offers you 20% off for the cardholder at both Breakout and Escape City each time you visit, your first game with it is free, and you get to play for free on your birthday (or within a week of your birthday). I would definitely return to Breakout, but I will be trying one of the other rooms. Hopefully they are just as great as this one!

We got about 3/4 of the way through when time ran out. I honestly don't know if we could have solved it in another 45 minutes... We were stuck! The staff were fabulous and kept us entertained while waiting to start our game with brain teasers. At $25 a person, the entertainment value is pretty decent and it's cool that they have a wall of fame wall with best times and of course ever changing escape rooms to keep you coming back. I will definitely be back!

I am reviewing solely on the basis of being an experienced player who has a certain expectation when it come to an acceptable escape room. So here it goes If you are looking for a place to bring your kiddos.. and I mean young kiddos.. then this escape room is fine for you. But for anyone who can't get away with peeing their pants anymore, I would really not suggest spending money here. The only room I played here was Castle Secrets , difficulty : hard. Firstly This was our second fastest room escaped. I don't remember an exact time but it felt like 15 minutes of actual game play passed. Ranking this room as hard is very misleading, especially when most other rooms in the city would put this at a beginner room. Although I am experienced I would not compare myself even close to people who are able to speed play a room so .. as an above average player this was way too easy for a 'hard' room. Without spoiling too much, there were really only 4 puzzles we had to solve. One of which was the most finniky thing I've had to deal with. The gentleman who came in to help us after 10 minutes of stress confirmed that we Infact had the right .. "key" for lack of a better word .. and it took him 3 more tries for it to work. We left the room feeling super unsatisfied. Also because the storyline just made no sense. Nothing about the description really matched the room. We escaped and just sort of thought... Okay.. why? There was no rhyme or reason to any of it.. at all. I have no idea what the room tried to accomplish but whatever it was, it missed the mark completely. On top of this, the decor was extremely minimal and quite lazy. I didn't feel immersed in the room and if anything I felt like I was in some Uncle Lester's basement preparing for Halloween. Overall I just wasn't happy to spend money here. The staff are wonderful and very nice but the rooms are simply lacking.

The establishment is easy to find, there is street and angled parking available, and the prices are comparable to the other escape/breakout rooms in Edmonton. I can't start to explain how great the customer service was, I was totally blown anyway! There was a total of 4 options, castle secrets, time warp, the imperial palace(the easiest), and lethal virus (the most difficult). They did mention that a new room is in the making! You can find out more information about the themes and you can also book online via their website! The room we went picked was well detailed- it was challenging yet fun. Bottom line, i would most definitely give this place a try, I'm more than sure you aren't going to be disappointed.

Compare to other places that I've been before, this was probably the lowest quality in terms of decoration and setup. The puzzles were ok and I didn't really have any complaints about that. However, part of our game got messed up because of a mistake in prep. There was a hidden door that supposed to be opened when we solve a puzzle. One of the ladies in our team touched the door and without any push it got opened. So we went to the next room and after we solved two puzzles there. A guy came in, and said you didn't solve the puzzle and should not be in that room and started giving us hard time that we may have kicked or forced that hidden door open. So all that time we spent In the second room was wasted and time was not reset and we started the game again with shorter time. If everything was setup correctly that door shouldn't have been opened at all. I think part of the fun and good experience about escape rooms is having high quality environment (close to reality) and setup everything correctly because these type of incidents just ruins the whole experience.
