It's been a few years since I've tried out an escape room. Prior to covid times I've visited a few. I've heard of this and have always wanted to try it and I'm glad I got the opportunity to! In order to enter the building you have to enter an access code which is emailed to you at the time of your booking or you can just ring the bell. The staff were really great and gave us a warm welcome upon our arrival. We did dungeons of drakar which was labelled as one of the more challenging ones however, we didn't find it to be too bad. It was fun and we managed to escape (I've never escaped a room before). There was a glitch with one of our items and due to that the staff added some extra time to our room which was nice. Parking may be a bit tricky as it's downtown so plan for that. I had a nice experience and would love to return again. Very expensive and terribly maintained . Nothing worked and think my escape room days are over thanks to the employees insulting my wife for having a mental disorder. They are also not wheel chair accessible and made a big fuss that I couldn't see and didn't have hands and a tongue. read more

GTFO - another place I have to put in my top 5, probably overall top two! Like I've said in my other reviews of escape rooms, there are a few things that I really look for in a good escape room and to paraphrase, it's that the room looks good, makes sense, has good puzzle, immerses you and gives you satisfaction when you've completed it. And by golly GTFO must be from Tennessee because .. well you get the rest. The puzzles here are very well thought out, they are unique and really provide a good challenge! I especially love how incredibly story driven their rooms are. GTFO is one place that has a story line and sticks with it to the bitter end so there is no fear of getting lost in a random puzzle. Although they do not utilize walkie talkies or intercoms to keep you in the game (just like Escape City, usually a worker will just come in the room) the rooms are visually appealing enough to pull you back in if you need a hint break. Nightfall is a great room to do with a big group - there's lots of space to move and A LOT to do. I was able to beat it with my partner in really great time but I wouldn't suggest doing so unless youre somewhat of a more advanced player. The Heist is a great beginner room but certainly not easy - it's nothing new but the puzzles in that room are incredibly cool and I really enjoyed their twist on a typical plot. It's probably best done with 2-3 people. Visiting Hour is another really fun one but I would NOT suggest doing it with 6 people - it just gets way too crowded and frankly it was impossible to get anything done. I would HIGHLY suggest 4! The Directive is one of my all time favorite rooms - everything about it I found cool and it's really going to be an awesome room if you're more of an experienced player. You will not be disappointed giving that one a go! Overall I really love GTFO - their rooms cover a huge demographic from beginners to advanced players, from kids to adults - they really are just a well rounded place. This was the 4th escape room that I've tried. Each experience was in a different venue. Going into this experience, my escape record was 1 successful escape out of 3. Over time my puzzle solving skills have been improving. Before going into the room, we were able to have some complimentary bottled water and some Costco cookies. We signed our waivers and put our belongings into a locker. Before heading into the room, we were given instructions and the story behind our escape room. For this experience, we tried the Nightfall room. The video intro inside the room was pretty cool. I found there was enough space to comfortably accommodate 7 of us. Sometimes if there are too many people in a room, there might not be enough puzzles to keep everyone busy. There were times that I found myself walking around trying to see where I could help problem solve. Sometimes even just standing by and giving a suggestion is helpful to solving a particular puzzle. I found that each of us played an important role in solving the puzzles. The puzzles in the room were fun and interesting! They definitely required different ways of thinking to solve them. The props were great too. There was definitely an outdoorsy feel to the room. I also appreciated the play with the lighting, to simulate nighttime. I also liked how they had a countdown clock in the tv screen in the room. It can be stressful to see your time running out, but I liked being able to see how much time we had left. We only had 45 minutes to solve the room. There were hidden tokens in the room that we could exchange for clues. We had to press a button on the wall to call a staff member to come in and help us. In total we needed 3 clues to help us solve the room. We solved the room in the nick of time! In the end, it took us 43 minutes and 10 seconds! We cut it close but in the end we successfully escaped the room! Afterwards we posed for group pictures. We were given 2 Polaroid pictures. We took one home and put one up in the escape room lobby area. It's kind of cool to have a record of our experience at the venue. In the end, I thought that this was a great escape room experience! My new escape record is now 2 successful escapes out of 4! read more

GTFO was my first experience with an escape room, and it far exceeded my expectations. I love computer games that involve wandering a room and solving puzzles (Nancy Drew anyone?) so I feel like I am already in the target audience for escape rooms. This year I decided to plan a party at GTFO for my husband's birthday, with 11 confirmed guests (including myself). Booking a large group with GTFO was a total breeze, and I loved that I was able to call and reserve two rooms, with guests paying when they arrived on the day of the party. This saved me the hassle of paying a rather large sum of money upfront and then collecting money from friends of varying levels of reliability. And as a bonus, our birthday boy didn't have to pay! The rooms at GTFO are designed for two to six people, and we reserved two rooms so we didn't have any people we didn't know hopping into our rooms unexpectedly. We chose the Heist and Nightfall, and split the groups into boys and girls. As part of the girls, we did The Heist, and were able to finish it within the 45 minute time limit with five people. I won't spoil the details of the room, but the environment was totally immersive, the puzzles were satisfying without being too hard and the hints provided by staff (using "Hint" discs hidden throughout the room) were quickly provided and sufficient without going into too much detail. The boys equally raved about their room after we left, and I believe that Nightfall is slightly more challenging than The Heist. Since our group was split into two, we got to enjoy the waiting area. There is complimentary cookies and water, board games, a TV and a Wii. We played cards while waiting for our group to finish, and it was a welcome and pleasant way to spend the time. After you successfully finish your room, you get to tape an instant photo of your group to the wall, and take a photo home as well with a funny magnetic board you can customize. The cost per person was $25, which I thought was an excellent value for the time and entertainment. GTFO was tons of fun and a perfect unique party activity. read more

Best escape room we've experienced so far! The foyer or waiting room is the best- complete with some board games to keep you entertained, bottled water, complimentary cookies, candy, and hot chocolate. The staff were so friendly and inquisitive about our other escape room experiences. They gave our friend complimentary admission for his birthday, which came about because they genuinely were interested in us and asked if we were checking them out for any particular occasion. We hit up The Heist. A great room! With more of a higher percentage of escaping we challenged this room without hints. A feature of this place is that they make you find a hint before you can just ask for one- we enjoyed this extra hunting. They said they place the hints in areas where most people will get stuck. The puzzles were challenging but fun and solvable. And we were all able to work on puzzles at the same time and achieve our objective. Once your done the room don't forget to grab some 'bragging coins', 'chill pills', or 'humble berries'. And take up the board and put the sayings of your choice on it for you Polaroid picture. A new escape room in Edmonton?! GTFO! Just visited GTFO tonight for the first time. The staff here was incredibly friendly! Games were well set up and paced well. The technology used in the puzzles was very neat and fun to try to figure how how to use to solve the puzzles. We tried The Heist and beat the challenge with time to spare. Will definitely go back to try the other rooms! If you have to wait for anyone in your party, they have a pretty awesome waiting area set up - you're free to use the Wii, play board games, or help yourself to bottles of water and free cookies! If this is how Escape rooms in Edmonton are, I want to do more of them. This was my first experience with an escape room and we did the most difficult one that they had: Visiting Hour. This meant we began our challenge in straitjackets, which was a nice touch given the theme for the room! No spoilers so I won't go on and on about what went on beyond the intro video and us wearing jackets to begin with but suffice to say we failed the challenge. Next time we'll do an easier room, I'm sure! I love the fact that the waiting area includes free hot chocolate, cookies, candy, and the opportunity to play board games, Wii games, or watch TV (well, anything you can stream on the internet) well you wait for your group's chance to escape the room. The photos you get to take afterward if you win or lose the room are also quite entertaining. Their rooms max out at 6 players each which is less than ideal if you have a larger group, but 6 is a good number regardless. Going here on a Sunday meant ample free street parking, but their website also points out all the available area parking which is good. Staff were also good about getting us to pay quickly and efficiently and to fill out waivers. I like how clear their instructions were regarding how to get hints, what not to do (so as to not break anything) and so on. I would totally love to return to this escape room facility. read more

Already a huge fan of escape rooms, I had to come check out GTFO. Nice set up of the rooms, logical sequence of puzzles, and enthusiastic staff make this a good place to go to. Being a northsider, I also appreciate its central location. I find that the difficulty of the rooms seem a bit easier in comparison to all the other escape rooms in Edmonton. The only downfall is its lack of free parking. Plenty of street parking is available, and if you come in the evenings or on Sundays, then it's free. Since it's located on the second floor, it's kind of easy to miss. Bonus points for handing out souvenir victory pictures. $25 to play, but we went when they were having a promo. read more

I'm exploring almost every escape room, and each one I've been to was pretty good. Haven't encountered one where I did not escape but that's because I go in a full group or one person less than the max. Anyways, this place is quite cozy in the lobby with board games for waiting and is located in the 2nd floor of the building. Just be careful of the stairways, had a trip down the flight of stairs and nothing to grab but pictures from the wall, lol. Besides all that, my group did "the Forest" which was pretty good. But I won't spoil it for you, just Get There and Find Out yourself (GTFO). There are refreshments which I believe is provided from them, so help yourself, 6 lockers for your stuff, booking can be done by phone or website. Washrooms are fairly clean. Currently they do not have parking for their customers. It is private parking in between the buildings, so parking on the street or parkade further down around the building. It was a ton of fun and combined some of my favourite aspects of escape rooms. Having been in all of GTFO's rooms - they are still my favourite in the city! If you're trying to decide which (of the MANY) escape rooms to do in Edmonton, GTFO should be the first one on your list! Our "team" and I have done escape rooms with 7 different escape room companies and GTFO is BY FAR the best...hands down. Everything from customer service, to their lobby, to the setup of the rooms to puzzles & technology used...everything with this company is amazing. You can tell the staff at GTFO really care about their business because they're very friendly and talk passionately about their rooms and about the escape room business in general. Their lobby is a great place to hang out as you wait for your turn (they provide you games, cookies & water while you wait :)) They're also a lot of fun to talk to if they're not too busy running to the rooms to give hints! The rooms themselves are awesome. We've done all three - Nightfall, The Heist and Visiting Hour. We beat all three, but we really needed to put our thinking caps on! Not only are the rooms setup really well (props that are purposeful, good quality, no nebulous red herring props that are there just because) but the puzzles make sense and progress along very nicely from one to another. We've done the rooms with 6 people and once with 7...and never did we feel like people were standing around waiting for one person to do something. SO well designed...and we really appreciated that they utilized more than just locks in their puzzles! Oh and when you buzz them for a hint they literally come running to help you which is awesome because every minute counts!! We're sad that we've done all three rooms now but we just can't wait for GTFO to open up new rooms. Double thumbs up for these guys!! read more

We were so excited to hear GTFO had reopened! We'd heard a lot of great things about their escape rooms and The Heist did not disappoint. The puzzles were thought provoking but not impossible. The story unfolded naturally and although the room was fairly linear, even six people were kept busy the entire time. I liked the elements of team work and the variety of challenges. Gtfo is the answer to all of your problems. The rooms are the best in the city. They are challenging and fun and creative and exciting and perfectly arranged. It is literally run by the greatest group of people. You don't want to just do business with them; you want to take them home and never let them go ever again. My only sadness is that we got addicted to this place too fast and finished all the rooms in less than a week. I cannot recommend GTFO enough. 100/5 stars. read more

Staff were super friendly & helpful, made us feel comfy while we waited, and the room itself was great -- challenging & fun. Only super small think -- they had complimentary hot chocolate mix (yay!) but hot water was only available from a Keurig that produced non-clear water, presumably left over coffee residue. A group of 6 of us went to try Nightfall. It was a great beginner room, we were able to finish it with 11 minutes left. There were two clues we solved without following the steps as they intended. We decided to try another room that night and the only one available was visting hour. It was a lot more challenging than Nightfall. We didn't finish it on time but we were so close and because we were the last people there for the night they actually let us finish the room. It took another 11 minutes to finish. The guys that run this place were great to deal with and I'm sure we'll be returning to try the heist. read more

We love this escape room! We have done an embarrassing amount of rooms in Edmonton and GTFO is definitely in our top 3. I have now completed all of their rooms and loved all of them. They have innovative and creative rooms that clearly outshine many others in the city. This was our 3rd escape room company we had went to in a 24hr period after we discovered how many existed! We have been to 4 in total. We were hooked on the concept immediately after our first experience. GTFO does the escape experience the best. The moment you walk up the stairs and turn into the lobby you know it is going to be good. I took a look at all the board games and places to sit and said " I could just sit here and play games and be thrilled." However we decided to proceed to our booking for "The Hiest". We were greeted immediately by out host who was super excited we came and you could tell he was passionate about the company. We were given a rundown of the rules and taken into the room that looked exactly how would think the room should look like, the puzzles were amazing and had a variety of technology used, unlike other companies that strictly use combination locks and minimal mechanical props. 43:21 later we exited the room. Super excited because it was our first victory in our escape room tour. They take a picture of you with a Polaroid camera and have one picture on their victory wall and one for yourself. Thanks so much GTFO and we are coming back in 2 weeks to do the other 2 rooms. BTW since I had joked to the guy the real reason we came was because other reviews said they had cookies... THEY HAVE COOKIES!!! DELICIOUS COOKIES These guys know how to treat their customers and they have 4 loyal ones now in us and we will come back for any new rooms in the future. ****We came back to finish them off**** We just completed nightfall (passed) and visiting hour (failed by a hair ) Both rooms were awesome as expected, and we can't wait for more. We went with friends to celebrate a birthday. We have been to other escape rooms in Edmonton but this was our first time at GTFO. They offered us free bottled water, hot chocolate, and cookies which made for an awesome surprise. The staff were friendly and passionate about the business they are running. We played Nightfall, and the room was great! Fantastic visuals and senses represented the theme very well. We completed it in 33 minutes and had a great time! I NEVER write reviews for anything but I had such a positive experience at GTFO escape room that I downloaded the Yelp app, so that enough tells you how much I loved it aha. The staff at GTFO were so welcoming throughout the entire experience, by letting us stay and hang out in the open area to play games while we waited, and encouraging any questions or concerns we had. Having gone to at least one room in all of the escape rooms businesses in Edmonton, I'd have to say that GTFO is my favourite in terms of overall experience. Compared to the other game rooms I've been to, from the moment I walked into the lobby and till when I finished the game, I had a great impression overall. I had made 2 room reservations originally for 12 people, but there we're some change in my plans and we had a total of 14 all together but they were easily able to accommodate for us. Not to mention, although their last room time was 8:30, they were kind enough to extend their hours in order for us to get the rooms which we wanted to play in. GTFO had a great lobby that was warm and inviting as compared to other rooms which were stale and looked like they had been put together very quickly without thought. They offered water and cookies and gaming in the lobby if you were to arrive early to kill some time. You can tell that they put effort into creating a great experience for their players. The staff we're extremely friendly in person and made us feel very welcomed. While talking to them during our waiting time, they had explained that they wanted to make these rooms with the players in mind which I appreciated. In terms of the game rooms, I can only speak on behalf of Visiting hour which was what my team played. It was described as the hardest room they had for this season in comparison to the other two rooms. The rooms were well made, designed, and professional because of how seamless they made the rooms, hiding anything that wasn't apart of the experience and story line. Another element that added to the entire experience was how we needed to find clue tokens as opposed to how other rooms you are able to just call with a button. In terms of the puzzles, I thought that they utilized the different types of puzzles well, such as number locks, letter locks, hand eye coordination skill, the use of black lights, riddles, and math. There was a good variety but definitely very heavy on the use of locks, which I didn't mind personally. The scare factor was the most impressive out of all the Edmonton rooms I've tried, using sound, lights, and imagery to add to the sensory experience. After finishing the room, they took our team photos with polaroid film and gave us a copy to stick up on the winning wall, and a copy for myself to keep. They were also kind enough to take a photo of my party group for me. Overall I would say that the experience from talking to the staff to playing the games, I left very satisfied and happy, and would definitely come back again. I recommend others to come try GTFO if you're looking for not only a great room to play, but an experience worth your $25. read more

This has to be one of our favorite companies in Edmonton to try escape rooms. The design of the room is slightly above the average but the fun level and puzzles are definitely worth the time and money. The staff that greets you are excellent. Friendly, energetic and full of interest in your interest in their game. All the rooms are of interest. Our favorite was Nightfall though very close behind them was Visiting Hours and Heist. I would say that while I would not recommend these rooms for the first timers, they are definitely a good mix of style of difficulty for those that have done at least one room and know what is going on to give it a go. Only reason it doesn't have 5 out of 5 is that there is never a perfect score cause there is always room for slight improvement but these guys come close to perfect fun. read more

My crew just did the Nightfall room which was awesome. Things we really liked: - The super friendly staff (had a great conversation with them while our room was being prepped) - Great waiting room -- Bright, windows, cool furniture, TV that had an episode of "Friends" on; really comfortable place to hang out in. And FREE SNACKS! Cookies and candies whaaat!! - The Nightfall room had great atmosphere, creative puzzles (some we had never seen done before in any other escape room), and good production quality (Escape City still has higher overall production quality but GTFO is the 2nd best out of all the ones we've done). Things that could use work: - I felt like there were way more "figure out the combination to this padlock" puzzles than creative "doesn't have to do with a padlock" puzzles. (but the few they did have were pretty original) - I'm not a fan of when escape rooms turn the lights down super low to the point where you need a flashlight to find stuff (I think that's just a cheap way to slow you down). OVERALL: Would definitely recommend checking out GTFO; we've only done Nightfall, but that was pretty good first impression. read more

I love escape rooms. Chances are, if you are looking at this review then you do too. GTFO is awesome. Definitely my favourite escape place so far. The staff were awesome. The room was awesome. The whole experience just left me feeling happy and excited and off the charts. We did the Heist. Totally recommend it. The entire feel of the room was authentic. I felt like indiana jones at a bank robbery. The attention to detail is definitely noticeable. I can't stress that enough. They really made it an immersive, challenging and enjoyable experience. Disclaimer: this was the first room i have ever successfully completed with my team. Had done 3 of them before this. I am trying not to be biased but i love this place! We will definitely be back. Went here today with 5 others. We did "The Heist" and had a great time! All of the equipment and rooms were in good condition and the staff were awesome. When we walked in we were greeted with smiles and were offered free water, coffee, and cookies. In the waiting room there were games and puzzles to keep us occupied until we went into our room.
