Pack your patience. - Pickle Barrel and Moxie's are a part of this mall, but are standalone buildings on the property. - Farm Boy is a part of this mall. It's good. I like the fact that the original name, Pickering Town Centre, is still alive and thriving on Yelp. The mall changed its name to The Shops at Pickering City Centre. I remember disliking the longer name. I don't call it that. Neither do the locals. It's like Rogers Centre. It's still SkyDome to me. Markham doesn't have a Farm Boy. The Farm Boy at this mall was my closest location until the Sobeys on Laird recently got converted to a Farm Boy. This location is my second-closest one. It's decent, especially the custard tarts and the hot foods. I have been to this mall several times recently. I've been to both Pickle Barrel and Moxie's for a late lunch on two consecutive Saturdays. The former has brunch and happy hour specials on weekends. Moxie's has brunch twice a day, every day. I enjoyed everything that I ate and drank at these two eateries. This past Saturday, I visited the Cineplex that's a part of the mall, but I didn't see that you could enter the mall through it. It has two VIP theatres. It's lovely. Staff were amazing, the food was yummy, and I loved my VIP experience. The downside is that parking was challenging to find an available parking space. It's funny that I haven't explored what the mall part looks like these days. I guess old habits are difficult to break. Growing up, my parents and I would come to the Pickering Flea Market. At one point, it occupied the back parking lot of this mall, facing highway 401. This flea market moved locations over the years, but eventually ceased operations during the pandemic. It was in operation for over forty years. I need to hit the food court. It has Edo Japan and Bourbon Street Grill that I like. I need to explore and figure things out. It's a decent mall. There's an Ikea city store and Urban Behavior clearance store with all items $10 or less. This new information kiosk is kind of cool. Its setup like a smartphone with widgets. If you are looking to do some Xmas shopping this holiday season then definitely come here. The food offerings here are excellent as well. They got a huge food court with lots of delicous food offerings across the globe. You want more of a dine in experience? Visit Moxies, Jack Astors, Scaddabush, Milestones, Hibachi, etc. The washrooms here need more TLC. The cleaning staff need to clean more frequently to make it a more pleasant shopping experience.

A con for this mall is the transit is now outside the mall on one of the side roads. When the LRT used to be open there was a bus bay there the buses used to stop. So for transit users this mall isn't as convenient as it used to be. This mall is best for those who have a car.

A couple friends and I decided to do a food challenge to see what we could each get for CDN$20. We met the challenge and enjoyed some great tasting food. Our preferred vendors included QQ Noodle King, Go Curry, Chloe's Convenience, Hi Anna's Basket, Shark's Fin City, and Prairie Lamb Kabob. This mall has something for everyone. Check them out!

Because of that, it can be a little jarring and timely to walk the entire mall area to get what you are looking for. Tons of stores sell the same items - phone cases, Sanrio items, jewelry, keychains, random goods. They also have service focused booths - health, nails, hair, beauty. Vendors also call out to you and sell hard once you are inside a place. Definitely try to negotiate your price or walk away because other stands might sell something similar for less or better value overall. Know your items! Not bad if you are looking around for stuff but also make sure you walk around before settling. Consider that my lesson learned! Food court has a lot of variety and seats come and go. What needs improvement in this mall is it needs proper expansion and removal of outdated stores (when the lease expires of course). There is no distinction in the direction of what the mall is selling as a category. On the weekends it gets crowded with all sorts of demographics shopping. The security staff seem swarmed. And parking is a game of survival! I expect it to improve once a proper tenant or use has been found for the now vacant Hudson Bay and the surrounding area. Fairview Mall has gone through an evolution and reimagination of the retail space. I love how they redeveloped the space where Sears used to be. The space is now converted into a mini Chinatown spot with Saint Germain bakery, bubble tea shop, Hong Kong style cafe, Thai restaurant, and a T&T Supermarket. On the top floor there's a Marshalls / Homesense big box store. I noticed the Zara store has been renovated and now occupying 2 levels. The store looks immaculate and love the modern layout and self serve checkout kiosks to make shopping faster for DIY people. I managed to do some shopping at H&M and got some great deals in the sale section. I also bought some groceries like green beans, lychee, bbq pork buns, and curry beef pastries. It's not very often you can go to regional mall and be able to buy clothes, groceries, and bakery goods. It was a pleasant experience. I look forward to the transformation of the vacant Hudson Bay space. Oh did I mention they have a Playdium arcade in the old Sportchek space beside the Cineplex theatre.
