A friend referred my mother, my sister, and me to Smart Skin Solutions for skin care leading up to my sister's wedding, and I am so glad she did. Michelle has been extremely attentive during our sessions. You can tell she is passionate about her work. She really takes her time and is so thorough during our treatments. She helped us to develop a skin care regimen during our first visit. Although we did purchase some of her products, she was big on incorporating products we already used into our routines. Yup, 4 years later, I'm still here and both Michelle and I have had an upgrade. An upgrade for me, being that my skin is looking oh-so-frigging-fantabulous. The breakouts have ceased, the skin has cleared up, and whoo hoo, chow, I feel good. I still feel that she takes the time to analyze your skin. Her upgrade? oh let me count the ways! She moved into her own spot - into the beautiful Roosevelt towers on Flower and 7th. The new place is GORGEOUS with an amazing view. She's always using high quality products (too bad we can't buy them - because they're the spa/professional quality) and is constantly upping her game. Whether it's going to classes to learn new techniques, or adding machines to her repertoire, she's there for your skin. Parking is valet only, and Michelle has taken care of that for you. I found her on Lifebooker for a Loot (similar to a groupon/livingsocial/etc voucher) and went in for a deep cleaning facial. The area is a little sketch - especially after dark. There are free street parking after 6pm, or a few paid lots in the area. It is located in downtown, if you're not familiar, can get a little scary. However, when you head up to the 6th floor/topmost floor. It's a gorgeous loft with a homely feel. She takes the time to analyze your skin and explains the products and why she is using the products for your skin. Extractions aren't the most pleasant thing, but she does what she has glow-ify your skin. Her prices are listed on her website and it is a bit lower than I expected for the amazing facial I received. I can't say enough about Michelle I have been with her for years and have seen such a big difference in my skin. She is so detail-oriented, passionate about what she does, easy to talk to, and her place is beautifully decorated and VERY clean. The service she provides is top-notch. I have been to over 8 facialists in LA and 3 here in SLO and there is no one like her. I do notice some of the reviews talk about how there are scheduling issues. I have to say that was true in the past and I have seen Michelle listen to these reviews and make the necessary changes to improve that for her customers. Slave girl was getting sick and tired of my beautiful man skin so she took me to her regular facial lady, Michelle, for a more girly soft touch for my already handsome face. The appointment was set at 12:30pm but she was running a little behind so she asked us to show up at 1. No big deal since we were eating lunch anyway. Parking was no problem since it was complimentary by Michelle and it was valet. If you come on Flower St traveling north, once you passed the 7th St, it's the third parking garage (second Roosevelt garage) on the left hand side. After you get the valet ticket, go inside and check in with front desk then you are ready to take the elevator up to be beautiful. Michelle was friendly and knowledgeable, overall fantastic. She explained on what she was doing the whole time so I didn't feel lost. That tingling feels I got on my face was unique and very sensational. Quick tip: do not open your eyes during the entire time or you will suffer some burning in the eyes and that could ruin your experience. Well, that's what slave girl kept telling me anyway. I think she just wanted me to have my eyes closed so she could take advantage of me. This first time facial experience was excellent and enjoyable. Michelle prepared little treats and water everywhere for us. The environment was chill with a great view and music selection fits the mood. I would highly recommend it. read more

What a wonderful sanctuary!! I called earlier this week to make an appointment for my fiancé and Michelle was able to find a good time for us. Her space is so lovely. It gives off a calming and soothing energy. My fiancé loved his experience. He said they chatted about his skin challenges and other general life topics. For starters, Michelle is a very nice lady and for that reason I am giving her two stars but I have to be honest in my review about my experience. I got Michelle's five layer peel and it left my face with several burns and my face was worst than it was before I went in, I had to go to another medical spa to have the damage reversed. My second is the constant change in schedule. If a client is late she will push you back or reschedule your appointment to accommodate them instead of rescheduling them and being considerate of the person next persons time. The time change wasn't a major issue for me but how my face looked afterwards is what has kept me from returning. Edit: Just wanted to add this update since Michelle's response. Sorry Michelle, that response is not 100% true! I had the peel done on 11/15/17 and didn't go out of town until 11/22/17. Literally 7 days after the peel. I have had deep peels (Vi and perfect peel) from experienced doctors offices and I have never had a single one of them leave my skin with huge dark marks the very same day I get it done. The next day my whole chin was complete burned looking. Peels usually slightly darken the skin to give a tanned looked, not a burn victim look. In response to me using the "wrong" products. Every deep peel I have ever had done has came with a kit that I receive BEFORE I leave the doctors office. I purchased the full peel and correct at home products to use during the peel from Michelle however she didn't have them in stock and told me to use what I had at home until my products came in the mail when she should have not given me the peel or sent me home without the right products in stock for proper healing. Keep in mind I was burned before using anything on my face after her peel. I literally have a timeline of the photos and everyone that saw me said they never seen a peel burn someone's face like that. Michelle was kind enough to bring some products to my house when I texted her freaking out about my skin. As I mentioned before, Michelle was a very nice person but I will not deny the fact that I never had a peel burn my skin like her five layer peel did. I was literally traumatized and cried during the whole process because I thought my face was ruined! So sorry Michelle I have to be honest with my results. That may not be the case for everyone but it was for me. I'm just thankful the damage was not permanent and I was able to have someone take me through a series of treatments to fix my resulting skin discoloration. read more

I have been going to see Michelle every month for close to 2 years. It has changed my life! I came to her with adult acne, aging skin, and tons of scars and sun spots. I completely understand the difficulties of running your own business - I also run a small part-time business by myself. However, I made a tremendous effort in attempting to schedule an appointment with Michelle to redeem my Lifebooker voucher, and after three weeks, we still couldn't settle on a date. Over a three week period, by my count, I made: - one attempt to schedule an appointment via website. No answer. - at least six phone calls/left messages, to which she answered maybe 3. After the unsuccessful phone calls, she felt it was perhaps easier to communicate via email or text. So I did. - sent her an email, no response. - sent her at least six text messages, some of which she answered, and not very promptly. I understand that it takes some back and forth to figure out the details of an appointment. And I understand that sometimes it is more difficult to settle on an appointment date than other times. But what frustrated me about my experience with Smart Skin Solutions was the fact that none of our communication actually went anywhere. I felt as though my business didn't matter. In fact, after 3 weeks of emails, text messages, and phone calls, she then asked how I heard about her. As if I didn't mention my Lifebooker voucher most of the times I communicated with her. If I did not already pre-pay my services with her, I would have given up on the business a long time ago and simply looked for services elsewhere. So, after 3 weeks of poor communication, I made a complaint with Lifebooker, and they were kind enough to offer me an alternative voucher for similar services. In comparison, the other business was so easy to work with. Also operated by a solo business owner, we exchanged a total of two phone calls/voicemails to schedule an appointment. That's it. Simple. I really wish I hadn't gone here. Within 2 days my face completely broke out in several places. I am willing to acknowledge that my visit might have had nothing to do with the facial (even though that's never happened with any other facialist I've been to). But am I willing to risk it again? NO WAY. Even before I broke out I had my doubts. First off, she had me fill out one of those forms asking about your skin regime but didn't bother to read it. Then, throughout the session she tried to constantly push products on me, products that, if she had asked, I would have told her that I don't want to use on my skin (stuff like sodium lauryl sulfate). Overall, I just felt like she was rushing to get out of there - her phone kept ringing and she actually stepped out to make plans to get drinks with a friend during my appointment. Michelle is fantastic! She is definitely thorough with extractions and will take care of EVERY clogged pore by going over areas more than once. I've never had anyone pay so much attention to extractions the way she does. Her facial massages are very relaxing, and she'll focus on pressure points on your face. Not only is she extremely knowledgeable about different products and has great advice about regular skin care, she also has her own line. I found out about her through lifebooker and have been really happy with my skin ever since. I usually get a few breakouts here and there on my chin, but ever since seeing Michelle, I haven't had a break out since. I even signed up for her 6 month contract deal (deep cleansing facial + peel once a month for $70 each facial). Michelle is my freaking hero. I've suffered acne forever, and have been through EVERYTHING (including not one, but TWO sessions of accutane) and I still break out a lot. I would say that I have moderate to severe acne, with a lot of scars and just exhausted skin from the years of products and medicines I've thrown at it. I've been seeing Michelle for about half a year now. My biggest facial issue is blackouts, and Michelle has been great at helping alleviate that problem. She's extremely thorough when she does the facials. She gets into your pores vigorously and takes everything out. Plus, my skin has been looking smoother since I started seeing Michelle. Best.Facial.Ever. The only reason I'm not giving her 5 stars is because no one ever really believes the 5 star ratings. I'm not her friend, I've never met her before my appointment. I purchased a ViPeel on lifebooker and we added a facial on to that (for a lot less than I've paid for facials in the past) The facial was amazing! the extractions hurt but that's to be expected and it was well worth it. My skin was in bad shape, huge clogged pores, tired, dehydrated...it was just a mess. She wasn't preachy or rude about my skin care habits (or lack of) I sleep with my makeup on, its a horrible habit its so bad for your skin, I know this. She gave me some tips, didn't try to sell me on anything was very nice and easy to talk to. My pores have never looked so clear and even a few weeks later my skin looks so much better than it used to. I understand that running your own business can be difficult and you can't answer your phone in the middle of a facial so I was fully expecting scheduling to be a little bit of a pain but I had no issues whatsoever. I left a message once and she called right back. Every other time she answered right away. My only issue was that she should put on her website and get into the habit of telling people when she schedules with them that her name isn't on the call box. There's COMPLIMENTARY VALET, just pull into the Roosevelt Lofts parking entrance off Flower St. The building is modern, luxe, convenient, and trendy. Michelle's spa, in Apt. 811, fits right in. The decor is luxurious and well put together. Gauzy curtains, white furniture, candle light, and tons of open space lend a true spa feel to the place. Michelle works her facial magic in the side room, and she brings in an army of specialists in her middle space, from smart lashes, to therapy massages, to nails. She's got the entire beauty Arsenal available for you, and all her people rock! Michelle is very passionate about what she does and her business, and personally vets each person to make sure they're providing the highest quality service and product to her customers. I've tried the massages and they are out of this world - perfect pressure, totally relaxing, great attention to problem spots. As for the facials, Michelle is still on her game. She takes extra time to do the best job, and is very thorough with extractions (much appreciated)! She custom caters your facial to what your skin needs that day, meaning you get the best thing possible for you! For example, while I usually get her signature facial (with lymphatic massage, extractions, cleansing, hydrating mask, etc), when I came back from a month of traveling we opted for the hydrating facial because my poor face really needed it. I've also tried her oxygen facial (you feel the moisture coming into your pores, very cool and refreshing) and her vi peel (chemical peel that takes off 3 layers of skin to reveal new baby soft skin free of imperfections). Michelle listens to her clients areas of concern and ensures each is addressed. She is professional, attentive, thorough, clean, and really good at what she does. Again, I get compliments all the time on how glowing my skin is - people think it's genes or make-up, but it's really Michelle! Trying to schedule with this woman is a nightmare! I should of listened to all the reviews regarding this! Countless unanswered emails, texts and phone calls. And then cancel on me at the last minute. With no call back to reschedule! Hire someone to answer your phone and schedule appointments for god sakes. I had a lifebooker deal for a deep cleansing facial. Setting up the appointment with her was difficult. We played phone tag for two days and then she told me to text her the times when I was available. But we still could not set up a time. We finally settled on Friday later afternoon. Friday come around and I text her to confirm the appointment. Then she tells me she had to cancel and I should have known because she didn't text me a confirmation. Well she hadn't had texted to cancel either. If I hadn't texted her I would have shown up to her space and no one could have buzzed me in. Anyway I had the appointment. The space was nicer and bigger than I expected and the location is convenient and close to my office. She seemed to know her stuff and correctly guessed that I used retin a and vitamin c on my face. The extractions were painful, but I cannot remember if it was any more or less painful than other extractions I have done. My pores were noticeably smaller for a week or so but they are getting clogged again. Bottom line -- The facial itself was good, but the scheduling was painful and irritating. read more
