DO NOT LET THESE GUYS REPAIR YOUR PHONE! I paid full price for the first screen replacement. Exactly 1 month and 1 day later the screen would only half light up. They offered me a slight discount $99 instead of the $130 to replace it the second time. I begrudgingly paid the $99 for the second repair. On the way home the screen started acting up again. We brought it in for them to look at and they stated it could not be repaired. They out right refused to refund me the $99! I have paid them $229 plus taxes and my phone does NOT work! I brought my cell phone into their shop in Chinook Mall, and asked them to see if replacing the cracked screen would be all that was necessary to get the phone back in a fully functional condition. I told them to let me know if there were any other issues before proceeding with the repair. They did not call me to inform me of the status of the phone. I returned the next day, and they said that they replaced the screen and everything was working fine. I paid $240 for the screen replacement and went home. That night, the phone lost it's touchscreen capability and was useless. It was sitting on my bedside table the whole time, not being damaged or exposed to any hazards. I brought the phone back next day and informed then of the situation. They said that the 30 day warrantee would allow then to replace the screen again if it was faulty. I asked them to call me again to let me know what I was up against. They did not call. I had to go back into the shop later in the afternoon where they told me they found other issues such as a bend in the motherboard causing heating issues, as well as evident water damage. Therefore, they did not replace the screen as they felt the phone was beyond repair. They did not offer any refund, whether full or partial, so I asked to speak to the manager/owner, but he was out. I asked for his email address and sent him a message later that day. His response again was the same. No refunds on water damaged phones.I don't know how this phone was supposed to have suffered a motherboard injury as well as water damage within the few hours it was in my coat pocket and then sitting on my nightstand table, but I told him that if this damage did exist, it was all done prior to their first inspection, and that their technician should not have proceeded with the repair of an unrepairable phone. Alaa, the owner maintained that their first inspection did not yield these damages. I feel they either repaired the phone without inspecting it properly, or else they replaced the screen hoping that everything would be ok, not caring if the phone died on the customer after they had paid and left the premises. They should not have repaired what was in their own opinion an un-repairable phone. Had they inspected it properly the first time, they would have seen the damage they claimed was found during the second inspection. Poor service. Poor response. All these guys are interested in is doing repairs regardless of whether they are needed or not. read more

The screen on my sons iPhone 6+ smashed when it hit the ground. I took it to Smart Phone Genius for repair. Within 1.5 weeks the screen was unresponsive so I returned for a replacement which they did. In less than 12 hours of the 2nd repair the screen cracked across the bottom when my son swiped across it. I called and asked for the repair to be done and correctly for a 3rd time and they said "Sorry we don't warranty cracks". Again, it was another defective screen and I was told I had to pay $225 again but I was offered a discount of 10%. That's a slap in the face. This is a business that doesn't provide a quality product. Spend the money and go to Apple and get it done right. read more

Just awful! I got my iPhone screen broken and my husband took it there for change. They charge almost the same price as Apple Store and you could tell the screen was really cheap. I got mad at my husband and he took it back to return the screen, as it was very bad quality (it made an iPhone look like a cheap copy). They still charged us for the "service" $40 bucks. Don't get scammed just take your phone to fix at the real deal and save yourself headaches and waste of your time. read more

Before you think of coming here make sure you scroll down and click on the (at the time of writing) nine "other reviews that are not currently recommended" to get a clearer picture of this company's business practices. My trust in this company and its employees is now shattered and beyond repair; not unlike the broken gorilla glass on my iPad. This should have been a simple screen replacement job and there has not been any meaningful attempt to address the concerns outlined in my initial review. Instead of working on the problem Zeyad the manager took the time to call me personally during an evening to issue threats and gloat about how he notified the police, recorded my video/audio, and looks forward to taking me to court. This company puts on the facade of pretending to be concerned about great customer service but Mr. Al-Ssalmani will never state (on the record in writing, when explicitly and repeatedly asked) just where he exactly stands on the issue/complaint or describe the actions he will take to go forward so really it's just lip service. When I ask for my money back the company repeatedly dodges refund inquiries and they have since stopped responding altogether. Here's a thought: Maybe you should spend more time helping your customer and improving your business as opposed to writing fake positive reviews on Yelp. The nine "other reviews that are not currently recommended" tend to be negative reviews and have buried/flagged. I was expecting better from these guys but evidently this is a very shady company and business who needs to clearly state the return, refund and cancellation policy. If you do not cover cracks on your screen repair work then explicitly state this in your warranty so that customers will not be mislead. It baffles me that SPG hardly even seems to care about doing a good job and I can only hope that my misfortune of dealing with this sorry excuse of a repair shop can help others to stay far far away. read more

Worst place and worst service. Take in a working phone to fix the screen and get phone back hours after they said it would be fixed however it never worked right. Take the phone back another day to hopefully get their poor fix job redone and by the time I got it back 5+ hours later it wouldn't turn on. Stay away from this place. Do not go here! I had my screen fixed here and it has since broken three more time in the last month. They use inferior screens but charge you the premium price. After much dealing with them and $430 dollars later. I decided to take it somewhere else to fix my screen and when they opened up my phone it was missing screws, and they glued every area in my phone and now it might not be fixable. I recently took my iPhone 4s, which has generally been extremely reliable, in to get the battery replaced, as I felt it was not as good as it used to be. When I received the phone back the battery showed only 3%, but I figured it was only because a new battery had been put in, and that it hadn't been charged, yet. Shortly after the phone died, and I started charging it. Now the phone is failing to connect to Wifi or Cellular, goes dead as soon as it is unplugged, resets in the middle of use even when plugged in. In short, it seems like their "repair" has damaged something significant. From reading the other reviews on Yelp, I don't think this was just bad luck. Basically, these guys don't know what they're doing, and they are destroying phones. I fear what will happen (ie. they will do nothing) when I take it back to try to get these problems corrected. read more

After reading the reviews I guess I'm not the only one that is furious with this cell phone repair shop. I was visiting Calgary during the Christmas holidays and my speaker on my phone wasn't working. So I took it to chinook centre to get fixed. They told me 80$ and it would take an hour. It seemed kind of steep but I needed it to get done. I also got the screen protector too for 10$. I got my phone back and it was fine just a tiny air bubble on my screen. I'm not that picky, so I went on my way. Later on that week my girlfriend dropped her new iPhone 5s and her screen went black. So since I had my phone fixed at "phone genius" I took her there to get her phone fixed too. This time it costed her 150$ plus 10$ for the screen protector. My gf took it home and the while she was talking on the phone, the speaker kept cutting in and out and then just stopped working all together and on top off that the screen protector started peeling after a day. We took it back to the guy and he says because she dropped the phone the speaker was damaged. So he told us the speaker would cost us 80$ and he would give us a deal and gave it for 50$. Again we went ahead with the repair. Well after we got the phone back we were walking out the mall and she was talking to her friend. Her phone started to do funny things like going to mute, or went to face time or whatever button touch her face touched. Again we walked back in the mall and explained to him what was happening and he started giving us excuses of why it was doing that. He was telling us when they open the phone. The sensors never sits right and it sometimes won't sense that your talking on the phone and he would have to replace the sensor at a cost of over 100$ I think. Or he recommended not to put the phone next to the face. We felt spending another 100$ or more to fix this was a waste of money for a phone that had so many things wrong with it. She decided not to go with the repair and we left the mall disappointed that it costed us over 200$ and her phone was still not working right. We flew back to Toronto and lived our life. One day she dropped her phone off the couch and her screen cracked. It should of never have cracked. The guy had of used the cheapest screen he could of possibly bought. Again we were disappointed and she didn't want to spend anymore money on her phone, so she taped the cracks with tape so she would cut herself. I wanted to write a review but didn't really want to hurt his business. Fast forward to today in March we were in Chinatown in Toronto. We walked In those little cellphone shop that did repairs and inquired about how much it would cost to fix her screen. Thinking it was gonna be expensive. To my surprise the guy told us it would only be 50$. The price was right so he did it in 30 minutes. What a surprise when she got her phone back. The screen looked like it was way better quality and the sensor that we thought was gonna cost us over 100$ was working again. Oh was my girl and I soo.... Fuckin pissed!!! I just had to write this review. I do not want anyone else to get scammed and if I go back to Calgary, he's gonna get a ear full and everyone in the mall is gonna hear me!!! Stay away! I came here after I was unable to get into the Apple Store. I explained exactly what happened. I dropped my iPhone- the screen was black but it was receiving messages, emails, calls etc. I was told it needed a new screen- $139. They took it, I was told to come back in thirty mins. No contract signed, nothing. That should have warned me. I worked back and it seemed to work ok. They told me as I was about to pay the front camera was also broken so they replaced it and it's an extra $50. I said I wish she had asked before fixing it! We are now at $200 I could have a new phone for that. As we were walking out the mall, the phone stopped swiping to unlock. We took it back and they replaced the screen for free again. Took it home and all seemed to work good. The next morning it was fully charged and suddenly died. I plugged it in and it seemed to work ok. It would go from full charge to dead. Sometimes I could plug it in, sometimes it wouldn't even charge. I took it back and was told it would need a new battery ($80.) I told her I wish she had told me it needed a new battery. Because that would be a total investment of almost $280 which is redicilous. Instead of outright telling me what was wrong with it, I wish they had gone about it different. Maybe, instead said we will open the phone up, have a look and tell you what needs to be fixed and how much it will cost to get it there. At that point I would have decided if it would be worth it. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this business is fixing things that don't even need fixing to make money. I did take it back the next day, and spoke with a different girl who was MUCH better to deal with. She had the battery replaced for free but it still isn't working and I now bought a new phone. I asked to speak to a manager about a refund (they can take their battery, their screen, whatever!) but when I called the next day she said the manager said no. I wouldn't touch this place with a ten foot pole. Try ty the iPhone guy in se calgary. I heard about him after I gave these guys my phone. Unprofessional, rude, unreasonable is what I got from them.... I went there on Nov 8 to fix my phone since they were recommended from my phone provider company.... That's why I expected their service is professional not like any random business that we can find on internet or on the street. The girl told me that it cost $209 to get it fixed and it can be done in half an hour..... after I paid she change it to 1 hour since there're couple of people before me...... she did asked me if I want them to put the screen protector on for me for only $10..... Thinking that they giving it a good price as customer appreciation discount for fixing my phone there, I agreed and paid the total of $229.95 with tax..... I got my phone back and it work fine. However, I found so many air bubble from the screen protector they put on ( not to mention they used cheap kind so it so thin and you can tell they don't have good protection compared to my Zagg that I got from BestBuy) I came back and showed the guy and asking him to do a better job about it. To my surprise he reply that " Oh, that's the best we can do already. It's hard to get no bubble at all. We're NOT professional in putting on screen protector you know..... You fix your screen here. That's why we only charged you $10 for it." I told him I got my old screen protector from BestBuy and they are always pleasant to fix it if there is air bubble or dirt in it. In fact, I can get it done now for nothing or only $5 since I bought the screen protector and the insurance coverage from them. However, I'm in a rush to get back to work that why I let him do it (at that time I'm not sure if I had my receipt from BestBuy or not). I told him I expect the service to be the same - a screen protector without bubble!! He told me "well then you can go there and get it done or I can give you a new screen protector so that you can put it on by yourself". I told him what is the point of paying him to do it for me and I may have to pay another one to redo it? But he told me there's nothing he can do about it..... I said fine I asked for a new screen protector (in case I had to put it on myself) and my old screen protector back (to go to BestBuy) I went to BestBuy and found my receipt from them. The guy there was so nice and put it on for me with a pleasant attitude. He even told me about my coverage with them and with Zagg. I Left BestBuy with a brand new Zagg phone protector and there's NO air bubble at all! I went back to Smart Phone Genius and showed the guy my phone. "This is how you put on a screen protector okay" - is what I told the guy. He said "oh it good that they get it done for you. How much that it cost to be done there?" I told him for nothing since I got the coverage but if I get a new one without coverage it cost $20. He said "Yeah. You see we only charge for $10 since we not professional" (but he said because I get my phone fixed there that's why it cheaper earlier). I told him any business I went to before for screen protector even one of the stalls in the middle of chinook - Ghost Armor - they had to change the screen protector for me if there is bubbles or dirt. I returned the screen protector he gave me earlier and ask for my $10 back since it not a way to do business. He told me "we don't do refund" - (with a return policy at the counter indicate that they will refund the money in the original form of payment if the service went wrong). He told me he already put the screen protector on my phone so it done already. I told him he didn't do a good job and it didn't work for me that I had to get a better service at BestBuy. He told me "well, not everyone mind about the bubbles you know"??? What kind of business is this? Is there anyone out there wouldn't mind to pay for a screen protector with many air bubbles from there? I came with expectation for fast and good customer service but that's what I got. TOTALLY A DISAPPOINTMENT!! Ps: I am an Asian.....I would expect this kind of attitude from an Asian business. To my disappointment, he is a Western guy and treating customer this way.... Service is awful. 100% DO NOT GO EVER AGAIN.I went to get my screen fixed for $187.95 and then after that me and my friends went to eat at a restaurant. A little while were eating my friends said they heard something crack. Now my phone this whole time was just laid on the table beside my plate. While waiting for my food and it laid on the table while it just cracked. It had only been one hour and a half since I got the screen fixed and out of no where it cracks. So I go back to the shop and explain them the situation they said they couldn't fix it. They told me they were giving me a good deal if I had paid another $100 because it was going to be another total of $150. After telling me about how they opened up the phone and finding that there was nothing wrong inside that could have caused the crack they then attempted to blame it on my phone case. Even after investigating my case and saying to me that there was nothing wrong they still tried to continue to say there was maybe something in my pocket that could have caused such damage to it. (where is the logic) and after asking for a refund they denied me and said there was "nothing" they can do. read more

I have gone here a few times to have iPhone screens repaired. First one was great, had no problems. Took my middle child's phone here in August and by mid september the screen was acting up. Took the phone back and it wasn't covered by their 30 day warranty so I paid to get it fixed again and it has been fine. I thought that maybe that was a one off so when my older child's phone screen broke, we took it here. Immediately the scroll wasn't working. Took the phone back, they replaced the screen. 3 weeks later, the screen came loose and now isn't working. They won't do anything to fix it, says a loose screen isn't covered under their warranty. I would steer clear of this place. There are lots of places to get your phone fixed, I wouldn't risk using this place, you would be better off spending the money somewhere else or on a new phone. read more

so I've never done anything like this before in my life, I've never wrote a review and in general I don't make a seen about the conduct of a business. so here goes my go at it and hopefully last. A couple months ago i took my phone into chinook mall to a store called "smart phone genius" my screen was cracked they said they could repair it no problem. when i got it back the screen and everything was great but the sensor that makes it go black when your making a call wasn't working (so you don't press buttons with your face) so i brought it back told them hey this was working before i brought it in the "genius" came out and said the sensor was probably broken before but because it was touching before they took it apart it was still working, and said they could replace the sensor if i pay them more. so i bought it and they replaced it.. it worked until i left the mall. yesterday i was in the mall and remembered how annoying this was so i went back. they said they would repair it no issue. After a half hour they brought my phone out and the sensor was fixed. Today i noticed the top of the screen wasn't in place and there was a black dot under the glass. so i made my way back to the mall. after talking to the lady at the front counter i finally asked to speak to the manager. he talked to be a ton about how they could take it apart again but if they broke the screen in the process i would be responsible not them. after arguing for a long time about how they aren't taking responsibly. he asked me to leave the store because he couldn't explain away their fault. so in closing i paid them to fix a problem, braking my phone more, paid them to fix what they broke, and they broke it again. basically its the worst store I've ever been to with the worst customer service. Chinook Mall​ maybe reconsider renting that spot to a place that won't take money to break your customers things. read more

Please excuse any errors in the review I am posting as I am using the cell phone that Smart Phone Genius tried to fix 5 times. I had a small crack on the top right of the screen not affecting cell phone usage. I originally went to Apple to get fixed but being a weekend it was a zoo in there and I needed to get this done as I was travelling the next day for work. I dropped off phone and was told to pick it up in half hour. Came back to store phone was ready for pick up. Turned it on the screen was all funky and apps kept opening and closing with out me touching anything. Took it back they fixed it. Seemed ok. Got a call about 15 mins later and my cheek kept hitting the screen in turn hanging up phone and hitting numbers. As I had a flight the next morning I had to make the best of it as I usually take between 20-50 calls a day. The following week a crack on the screen appeared out of no where as well. I made it back into town and went back to the store this is the third time now. They had to fix the screen and the proximity sensor where your ear hits the screen. Everything seemed ok again until I opened up my email and nothing on the top left and right of the screen would work. Instead when I would push anywhere on top left emails would start deleting and apps would open and close. So I called the manager as I wanted my money back to get this fixed properly somewhere else. The result of that conversation was he was expecting me to take all my money back except 60$ for his time. In his eyes my 4 visits to the mall don't count for my time and the fact that emails were getting deleted and not being able to properly use my phone to operate my business didn't count for my time either. I ended up going to the mall where this coward left a note to a young teenager to deal with my circumstance that they will give me my money back but put a broken screen back on. Mind you the screen was already not working or out a new screen on and that's it. Well obviously I had to put a new screen on for the 4th time and it still does not work properly. Apple will not touch a phone that another 3rd party repairs so I am basically screwed with a 900$ paper weight. My advise to anyone don't waste your time and come to this store. Get it done properly at Apple or where ever. Not only is the management here a joke but obviously the products they use to repair are cheap garbage. read more

If there was a zero star option I'd take that. After charging more then every other repair place to fix the glass of my partners Samsung s6 phone day of it being broken, we then got to deal with the glass shattering; not cracking nor chipping but shattering. He takes it back to get it replaced the charge him the same price but take the warranty off. Why didn't they charge him the warranty the second time because the warranty doesn't actually cover shit. It's just an additional 50 dollars they gauge you for. So here we are 92 hours after the first time he has payed for his glass to be replaced twice... now here we are with the glass being shattered AGAIN! When he called to express his frustration and in hopes that they would at least attempt to offer some decent customer service they hung up on him. Now we are stuck having spent over 600 dollars on screens and will need to do it again and they can't care in the least. Do not spend a hard earned cent there. Take your week and wait for a real establishment that cares to do it for you. read more
