I've been wanting to learn ASL but wasn't sure where I could go to take classes. I found out about…read moreSan Jose Learning Center and signed up for ASL 1 with Alexa. I originally wanted to take the class in-person, but due to my own schedule, decided to enroll in the online one. I was a bit unsure how much I'd be able to learn through an online course (as I usually prefer in-person classes), but I'm happy to say that I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot from Alexa! I appreciate SJLC's wide variety of language offerings and flexibility with online, hybrid, and in-person classes. I'm looking forward to taking more classes!

I signed up for Cantonese 1, it's a 7 week, 1.5 hour hybrid class, and I went in person. I had another classmate in person, and two who joined online. I really enjoyed our classes, getting to practice speaking with the instructor and my classmates. The lessons are packed with a lot of vocabulary, grammar structure, and conversational phrases. There is limited writing exercises, and not much reading learning, but I am okay with this, and perhaps it is more emphasized in later levels. The instructor Dolphin is very supportive and patient. She would bring in photos and props to class to help us learn. She would also would tell anecdotes about Cantonese media that we could check out in our free time. I highly believe that this is worth the investment, it is more interactive than language learning apps, and you get real feedback. I am able to talk to my mother and some friends, and they can actually understand what I am trying to get across. I am planning to take Cantonese 2, and would suggest anyone who is interested in learning Cantonese, to check out this school!

My child attended Ready Preschool for 2 years, and I am very happy with her care. First and…read moreforemost, her teachers have all been rockstars! Shoutout to her very first teachers in the Green class, Ms. Priya and Ms. Anna, who were so engaging and nurturing, creating a foundation for my child to "want to go to school" and allowed her to seamlessly transition from a daycare to a more formal school setting. In the second year, Red class teachers Ms. Zhila and Ms. Ma, created a caring, interactive classroom with academic focus to prepare the kids for kindergarten. Kudos also to other class teachers and the kind and welcoming staff including Ms. Usha, Ms. Malu, Ms. Marian, and Ms. Van. The school uses an app that allows for easy communication with the teachers, and we are kept up to date on lunch menu, curriculum, and photos. The school is comprehensive in their social activities such as annual winter performance, holiday celebrations, parent teacher conferences, family events, etc. The kids also have regular music and kung fu classes. The school is bilingual English/Mandarin, with a daily Mandarin language learning component, so it is helpful to have some exposure to the language and culture so the kids can understand better, and the lunches are sometimes Chinese meals. Teachers are supportive and open to address any concerns at any time. Classrooms and playground are large, clean, and bright. My child has thrived, socially and academically, at Ready Preschool due to the support and care of a great team of loving and dedicated teachers. We can't thank them enough, and highly recommend Ready Preschool!

We've had our son at Ready preschool for the last 2.5 years and we highly recommend! He started…read morewhen he turned 2 and was a bit apprehensive and now he's super comfortable and he's about to graduate from the program. He's been in 3 of the 4 classrooms and all his teachers have been wonderful. While he was in the orange room, Ms Miriam and Ms Van took great care of him. He was still in diapers and we partnered with the teachers there to get him potty trained. In the green room he had Ms Priya and Ms Anna and they had to be his favorite teachers there. Currently he's in the red room and his teachers are Ms Zhila and Ms Ma. He's learned so much in a short time, he's doing addition, teaching me about matter, and planting vegetables. His teachers are so kind, dedicated, and caring. One of the biggest perks is that the provide lunch and snacks. My son always finishes his lunch and we're told he asks for seconds. We receive the monthly lessons and weekly photos. There are also activities happening every month, in addition to music class and kung fu. They also still continue nap time even in the red room so your child gets some rest after lunch. The school provides a great balance of academic and social skills. The students are majority Chinese and there are daily Chinese lessons. Even though we do not speak mandarin at home he's picked up mandarin in class and was able to sing us songs, speak some phrases, and count to 10.

Braj Arts and Cultural Society's Hindi Language Classes

Last year in Sep/16 we enrolled our son to the Hindi classes, who could only understand Hindi but…read morecould never speak. The classes are run at San Jose center by Mr Kamal. The teaching concepts are very simple and precise, and the best part is parents involvement. At least one parent is required to attend the class along with the kid, to ensure that everyone is on same page and parent understand the strength and improvement area for their child. From the very beginning itself, my son has shown tremendous growth. In fact each and every child in the class had similar growth. By the end of first quarter, they were up to reading and writing Hindi alphabet. In second quarter, they were taught some special letters, 2-3 letter word formation. This was followed with half letters and special case of 'R' usages, along with sentence formation, numerals, family relationships, body parts, etc in the third quarter. The classes are held once a week at a very convenient time of 11-12 in the morning. Each week is exciting and my son has always been super enthusiastic to attend the next class. Three quarters down since this started, today my son can speak and talk in Hindi. He can read write Devanagiri script (though fluency is desired). Overall the change is beyond expectation, since we always believed it will take few years of persistent effort from our side to even get him to converse in Hindi. I have a lot of appreciation for Mr Kamal and his team, who came up with this idea of Hindi classes and built a solid teaching concepts around it. It does require parent's involvement and about an hour every week, but it is all fun to see the transformation. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who is looking for the same. They also have center in Hayward, if that is convenient.

We maintain a good teacher- student ratio to make sure we can pay personal attention to each learner. We are a non-profit organization. The suggested donation is $125 per quarter (3 months) and it covers 10 - 12 classes conducted over the weekends including books and other learning materials. We are driven by our desire to teach kids hindi and not by money.
