I was typically the only student who came in-person since most students take the class remote, but being able to be in the same room as the instructor helped my motivation during class immensely. Rhya and Nicky are both so kind and knowledgeable. You can tell that they are not only experts in the language (as native speakers from the Philippines) but in pedagogy. As a community college professor myself, I admire how organized the class was and how welcoming they are. The other students in my recent class were highly motivated and excited to learn Tagalog for various reasons. Some like me grew up with Filipino parents but never learned Tagalog, while others are in relationships with Filipinos/Filipino Americans and want to engage more deeply with the community through language. Overall, SJLC has been a positive experience, and I am excited to take the next (and last) level of Tagalog 3. The current rates for Tagalog (7 weeks, weekly meeting for small group) is $399 remote, $419 in person, and $449 hybrid -- note: this is a "Prime" class, so it is priced a bit higher since the instructor is a native speaker with 5+ years of teaching experience).

The instructor that I had, Keiko is great. She is very patient and always willing to help. (The courses can be fast though depending the language and the books being used). The other people there are always very polite and helpful as well. The facility, while basic, is clean and conducive to learning. They seem to use a mix of media (e.g. slides, Quizlet, etc. which is good). FYI - it is near SJC - San Jose Int'l airport and the jets taking off can be somewhat loud at times.

My child attended Ready Preschool for 2 years, and I am very happy with her care. First and…read moreforemost, her teachers have all been rockstars! Shoutout to her very first teachers in the Green class, Ms. Priya and Ms. Anna, who were so engaging and nurturing, creating a foundation for my child to "want to go to school" and allowed her to seamlessly transition from a daycare to a more formal school setting. In the second year, Red class teachers Ms. Zhila and Ms. Ma, created a caring, interactive classroom with academic focus to prepare the kids for kindergarten. Kudos also to other class teachers and the kind and welcoming staff including Ms. Usha, Ms. Malu, Ms. Marian, and Ms. Van. The school uses an app that allows for easy communication with the teachers, and we are kept up to date on lunch menu, curriculum, and photos. The school is comprehensive in their social activities such as annual winter performance, holiday celebrations, parent teacher conferences, family events, etc. The kids also have regular music and kung fu classes. The school is bilingual English/Mandarin, with a daily Mandarin language learning component, so it is helpful to have some exposure to the language and culture so the kids can understand better, and the lunches are sometimes Chinese meals. Teachers are supportive and open to address any concerns at any time. Classrooms and playground are large, clean, and bright. My child has thrived, socially and academically, at Ready Preschool due to the support and care of a great team of loving and dedicated teachers. We can't thank them enough, and highly recommend Ready Preschool!

He's been in 3 of the 4 classrooms and all his teachers have been wonderful. While he was in the orange room, Ms Miriam and Ms Van took great care of him. He was still in diapers and we partnered with the teachers there to get him potty trained. In the green room he had Ms Priya and Ms Anna and they had to be his favorite teachers there. Currently he's in the red room and his teachers are Ms Zhila and Ms Ma. He's learned so much in a short time, he's doing addition, teaching me about matter, and planting vegetables. His teachers are so kind, dedicated, and caring. One of the biggest perks is that the provide lunch and snacks. My son always finishes his lunch and we're told he asks for seconds. We receive the monthly lessons and weekly photos. There are also activities happening every month, in addition to music class and kung fu. They also still continue nap time even in the red room so your child gets some rest after lunch. The school provides a great balance of academic and social skills. The students are majority Chinese and there are daily Chinese lessons. Even though we do not speak mandarin at home he's picked up mandarin in class and was able to sing us songs, speak some phrases, and count to 10.

I…read morethought it was reasonably well structured and that she did a good job teaching us first how to pronounce, then how to read and write. We studied formal and informal. If you have any background in a language I would suggest you refresh yourself and test into something other than the intro course. Starting at the beginning was perfect for me since I have never studied French before, but it was very, very basic stuff. Had I taken that level for a language I had previously studied I think I would have been bored. Pros: - Conveniently located to the 84 and 101 (and Caltrain?) - Convenient times after work - Great way to sample a new language to see if you're really interested in it. - You get to keep the text book (they are used, mine had writing it...) Cons: - When you are only meeting once a week it's really easy to say: "I'll study this weekend." "I'll study tomorrow." "Oh crap, class is tonight, I better study." - Cost - it's roughly $40 a class (give or take) so if you're going to stick with it long term it's going to add up. A college course may be cheaper (though with the way college tuition is these days maybe not?). Private lessons seem to run $30-$40+ an hour, so I think their costs are reasonable. It just adds up over time, which hurts my head when I do the math... - $50 one time set-up fee per student

Erick did a great job of assessing my current level of proficiency and then adapting an appropriate curriculum to advance my skills. We met at the Menlo Park school at times, which is a very easy to access right next to the Facebook campus off of Willow Road. Other times we met at a location we decided upon. The staff at ABC were very helpful in my billing or any questions I needed to get answered. Highly recommend ABC for anyone interested in any foreign language, no matter what level they are in. They will have an instructor for whatever language you are interested in.

As a former student of CalCC, I want to write a review on how the language skills I learned from…read morethe school had helped me a lot in getting admission into MBA program at CSU East Bay. Just like many other ESL institutions, basically you will learn English. However, what makes the school different from others is the effectiveness of the program. All the grammar, listening and reading skills, and writing techniques are practical, easy to learn and sufficient for you to use daily and academically. You might doubt it at first, but believe me, after just about 1 year of studying at the school, I was able to get TOEFL score of 90 at my first try. A score of 80 is a standard for a master degree. It could reach 100 at some highly competitive universities. But I want to emphasize the importance of your self-practice also. You need to use it in some way even though there is no homework or an assignment. Your self-practice is important for you not to forget what you have learned. Another special thing about the school is the devotion that all instructors have to their students. They are willing to help you as long as you need their assistance. You can ask them to write recommendation letters, or ask them about other tests that you cannot study at CalCC. I studied GRE myself at the same time I took English classes at CalCC. I can say that all the help from knowledgeable instructors had helped me get high enough score on GRE examination to get admission into my MBA. Obviously, the program itself and the constant assistance from instructors provide you more than enough English competency to survive and succeed in higher education environment. Last, the school offers affordability and friendly environment. Tuition is relatively competitive I can say. The class is friendly and interactive. There is a kitchen for you to cook occasionally, but you will need dean's permission for it. Frequent field trips give you chance to interact with classmates and other people, help you to review what you learned, and relax your mind with some enjoyable food. All in all, this will be a right place for those who are looking for an ESL institution where they can learn, practice, interact, and even enjoy.

They pay attention to details and work 1:1 if your kid has issues with specific concepts or subjects. If you have reached this page, you are curious about Best Brains and checking Google for any information available. My 6 years old has been going to Best Brains since July 2016 and so far I am satisfied with results. They offer English, Math, Abacus and other classes at few days a week. The owner(Sylvia) is a friendly lady always willing to offer answers. I have seen the same teachers with my kid for a while, meaning he doesn't have to adjust based on new teachers. Fees is reasonable based on other places I have seen in Bay Area. Its very closed to India Bazaar, you can do grocery shopping while you kid is gaining skills. Parking can be challenging sometimes but its available most of the times. I have seen improvement in my kid in last 4 months and I hope he will continue improving at same or greater pace. Good luck with your decision. Message me if you have any additional questions. Disclaimer: I am not paid or compensated in any way for writing this tutoring center. I want to give this place a fair review and just share my experience…read more Pros: I think this place has a lot of potential. Multiple subjects, small tutoring size and good price, and seemingly good curriculum. The location is convenient. It's clean inside and many students. Cons: here is my experience: I brought my daughter in for the assessment. The owner was coldly polite. Did not introduce herself, say hello or anything but merely directed my daughter to take an assessment test. I felt a little put off by just the lack of warmth but I wanted to give the place a benefit of the doubt. When she is done and the owner asks my daughter her name. My daughter has a soft voice and the owner said "say it! You need to talk louder". She had just met my daughter and already is reprimanding her? ...bad taste in my mouth but again, benefit of the doubt. I decide against my gut to sign up (never again will I not trust my instincts). After we leave, my daughter pleads with me "please do not send me here. Please!" She was in tears. We had a long talk, I was shocked and conflicted bc she LOVES school, has been to many tutoring programs and camps over the years and has always loved them. She is 9. Feel free to PM me if you want to know details. My daughter's experience is only part of the reason for the bad review--most of it is the owner's response and my own feeling about the place. Anyway, after much deliberation, and consultation with my husband I decided I would try to see if we could get our deposit back or, I could voice my concerns with the owner and see if there could be some kind of reassurance or solution. Two days later I go back to the center and ask politely can we please cancel, it was two days ago, she has not started yet. Owner says no, they already "bought the materials." Really? Ok so plan B, let's see if we can make this work. I shared with her my daughter's experience and she became very defensive. I told her it may be the center's focus on education (vs development of the child's love for learning) and not a good fit. She said I cannot say her "center is bad," shoved me the money and non-verbally said "get out." I walked out and realized she gave me more than what I had paid. It was a measly $30 more and no way I was walking back in there after she treated me that way. Plus it was her mistake. I drive 5 minutes and she has the audacity to call me! "You owe me $30!" At this point I am laughing in disbelief. I kind of felt anger mixed with pity for how crazy she was acting. I wanted to be the bigger person and not stoop to her level so I drove back to give the dumb $30 back. I calmed down and went back and tried to reason with her. I told her she is obviously doing something right bc there are lots of kids here but she needs to listen and be able to receive feedback. She just got more and more defensive saying my daughter hadn't even tried it, how can she listen to me? I said if you are not listening now, what makes me so sure you're going to listen once we try? She was not hearing me and just being defensive. I tried. I'm sure this place is working for a lot of families but I just want to warn those who are looking for a higher level of customer service to beware. My take home: trust my instincts!
