I walked in with complete awe, like a child in a candy store. Yes, I got happy in a massive Chinese grocer. You'll see staff in every isle tending to the stocking of products. Products were abundant from all parts of Asia. Obviously USD is strong in Canada, so value is definitely on the plus side. Prices seemed reasonable. There is even a full store within a store dedicated to skin care. Unfortunately I stopped myself over buying as Toronto wasn't my last stop on this trip. Think of a mini Olive Young. I wish the United States had more massive grocers like this one.

It's been many years since we've been in the Promenade, and it probably wouldn't be a surprise that we barely recognized it as a lot has changed. We stopped by in the early afternoon on a Friday. My sister and I met my cousin at Tim Hortons in the food court. While my cousin and I both enjoyed a beverage and a donut at Tim Hortons, my sister instead opted for Yogenfruz. My sister later had lunch at Sushi-Q while I chose Feta & Olives. We were surprised a number of the food vendors were closed on a weekday afternoon. We then stopped in Roots, Dollarama, and Olive Branch. There were certainly a variety of different vendors, and it was fun to learn there was now a pickleball place in the Promenade. The Promenade has a Guest Services team that staff the counter located at the Bathurst Street Main Entrance. The mall also offers free Wi-Fi, complimentary wheel chairs, access to SmarteCarte Self-Serve strollers, and family parking options at each of their main entrances with parking options for expectant mothers and parents with young children. The hours at the mall are Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 8 PM and Saturday through Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. There are holiday hours published for Black Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. The Promenade also has special events like free treats on Halloween (this Friday), the Haunted Carnevil from Halloween for three days, and an Autism fundraising night at the St. Louis Bar & Grill throughout half of October and November. I like the fact that the original name, Pickering Town Centre, is still alive and thriving on Yelp. The mall changed its name to The Shops at Pickering City Centre. I remember disliking the longer name. I don't call it that. Neither do the locals. It's like Rogers Centre. It's still SkyDome to me. Markham doesn't have a Farm Boy. The Farm Boy at this mall was my closest location until the Sobeys on Laird recently got converted to a Farm Boy. This location is my second-closest one. It's decent, especially the custard tarts and the hot foods. I have been to this mall several times recently. I've been to both Pickle Barrel and Moxie's for a late lunch on two consecutive Saturdays. The former has brunch and happy hour specials on weekends. Moxie's has brunch twice a day, every day. I enjoyed everything that I ate and drank at these two eateries. This past Saturday, I visited the Cineplex that's a part of the mall, but I didn't see that you could enter the mall through it. It has two VIP theatres. It's lovely. Staff were amazing, the food was yummy, and I loved my VIP experience. The downside is that parking was challenging to find an available parking space. It's funny that I haven't explored what the mall part looks like these days. I guess old habits are difficult to break. Growing up, my parents and I would come to the Pickering Flea Market. At one point, it occupied the back parking lot of this mall, facing highway 401. This flea market moved locations over the years, but eventually ceased operations during the pandemic. It was in operation for over forty years. I need to hit the food court. It has Edo Japan and Bourbon Street Grill that I like. I need to explore and figure things out. It's a decent mall. Main Street Markham is the stretch along Main Street North (think Markham Road that gets…read moretemporarily renamed) between Highway 7 and roughly 144 Main Street North, which houses a handful of eateries on the west side of the street. There are side streets that extend a block east and west to complete the geographical area. I have seen it change over the years. Banks and eateries have come and gone. However, its charm and revitalization have made this area even better. Main Street Markham is the original street of the Village of Markham. It is one of Ontario's older communities, which was established in 1793 as part of Markham Township. The town was named after Archbishop William Markham on York, England by John Graves Simcoe, who was the Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada. It's sad that the Archbishop never visited his namesake. Hopefully, he's looking down at it from above and smiling. There used to be a post office, but it's long gone in this area. Markham is now a city, so the post office moved to a nearby Shoppers Drug Mart. There are some eateries that have endured over the years. Pizza Pizza. The Old Curiosity Tea Shop. Folco's Ristorante. They are still thriving. I remember going for elections training as a Deputy Returning Officer for the City of Markham a while back. It was in a building just behind Folco's Ristorante. There was free parking in front of it. You can find free parking either in parking lots or on Main Street itself. The eateries have changed so much at 144 Main Street North that I frankly can't keep track of what's there. I used to frequent a sushi joint there eons ago. These days, you can find creative, cool eateries, such as Inspire Restaurant, Azyun Restaurant, Main Sushi, Fujisan Japanese Restaurant, and more. My friend and I often joke that we should meet up at Uncle Joe's Family Restaurant, which is just south of all these eateries. It has also been there for ages. The portion sizes are huge and the food is good. We both know that we'd need to be carted out of the place after dining there! One eatery that I miss along this stretch is Rawlicious. My best friend who is vegan and I loved dining here. Sadly, the pandemic caused it to shutter for good. The food was awesome. Whether you are vegan or not, you knew that you'd enjoy decent, creative, yummy eats here. I used to visit Markham Seniors Activity Centre and took my mom there before the pandemic hit. There were a bunch of activities that my mom enjoyed doing, from tai chi, to arts and crafts. A bunch of events happen in this area. The Main Street Markham Farmers' Market takes place on Saturdays from mid-May till the first week of October each year. You can get a lot of local produce, baked goods, and more. It runs from 9 am till 1 pm on Robinson Street. During the summer, there's free live music outdoors. It's called Music on Main. Live music starts at 6 pm and goes until roughly 9 pm. Bands basically play in front of different businesses each Friday night, so you can enjoy dining on a patio and taking in a performance, or simply hang out on the sidewalk and enjoy the music. Coming up the is Main Street Trick-or-Treat just before Halloween. A month before Christmas, the festival of lights happens on this street, along with the Santa Claus Parade that happens on a Saturday. The street shuts down and everyone lines up to take in the floats, bands, Santa, and more. Markham also has an Easter Parade. It's cool that it's a smaller version of what I grew up enjoying as a kid in Toronto. Markhamites are friendly. You see a lot more of it in this area. Maybe it has something to do with how quaint this street is that it affects their mood and attitude. I haven't checked out the newer businesses that have established themselves here. Slice of Fire Pizza. Second Cup Coffee Company. Super Smash Burgs. T&T Bakery and Cafe. Cho-Kwok-Lat. I do need to spend more time in this area. It's a cool, quaint area. My friends and I decided to park at one end of the neighborhood so that we could walk up one side and back down the other, that way we would be able to see everything. Definitely a feast for the eyes with lots of photo ops: benches, gazebos and even window shops with stylish store fronts and window displays (please refer to pictures). We went early on a weekday which is perfect for taking a leisurely stroll without the crowds or the heat. We worked up our appetites walking down one side of the neighborhood. There were many great places to choose from that would cater to any picky eater (we had three in our party) - Subway, Pizza Pizza, Rawlicious, The Old Curiosity Tea Shop, Main Street Greek, Marca Trattoria and many others. With the help of Yelp we chose to eat at Main Street Greek (please see review). Great place to go with friends and family or to bring out of town guests.

I don't frequent it as much as I should. I first came here with a friend roughly two decades ago to eat at All Star Wings. It's still alive and kicking. I will always have a soft spot for this eatery and ordering way too many wing flavours. We often boxed everything we couldn't finish up. There have been many Hong Kong-style eateries next to this wing place that have come and gone over the years. Sadly, one of these eateries had silver needle noodles that you don't see often on the menu. They were so good! I don't frequent the T&T Supermarket these days. It was a madhouse the few times that I did. It's the perfect storm of crazy shoppers who can't park for beans. The supermarket itself is decent. I live closer to the two T&T stores on Warden and Kennedy. This one is the third-closest one to my home. There is a Wellwise Home Health & Wellness store. It used to be under the Shoppers Drug Mart brand, but it got acquired by Verillium Health Care. It has served my family well over the years. I have got everything from washable bed pads to a wrist brace. Staff are helpful, especially when I didn't know much about these products! I like the Chatime-Bakecode store. I get my bubble tea and croissant fixes all under one roof. It's probably my favourite store at this plaza. I just noticed a Mr Sub. I will need to check it out someday. Same goes with the original Hana Don. I have been to the one at CF Fairview Mall. I need to drop by this one. Yesterday, I visited SportChek for the first time. I liked the merchandise. Customer service was excellent. There's a Tim Hortons here, too. It's got a drive-thru. It's another reason why this plaza gets busy. I like Cachet Centre, minus the craziness in front of T&T. Can I dare to say that if you been to a mall in the suburbs, you been to all of them? Pickering Town Centre has most of the standard stores.. I would not make a special trip to come shop here, but it is ok if you are in the area to drop by to look around!
