I was introduced to William Paul Motor Engineering by my dad, who uses the garage too. It is a family run independent garage servicing the Kirkcudbrightshire area. William Paul carries out full garage services including: all makes servicing, vehicle repairs, MOT testing, diagnostics, breakdown recovery and wash & vacuuming. Ok, so it's a little far from my home (108 miles) in the Dumfries and Galloway region, but taking my car there and back is worth it. Yes, I'm probably spending over £40 on mileage to get there and back to Edinburgh, but it is still cheaper than going to an Edinburgh garage, plus I get to visit my folks when down there for the weekend! The garage is officially open Mon - Fri 08:00-18:00, Sat 08:00-12:00 and Sun Closed, but I usually find William and co working on cars well into the night at 8pm and starting 7am. William Paul is a very hard working and trust worthy mechanic. His business is fairly new, but I've heard nothing but good things about him. The constant stream of vehicles in a out of his garage is a fine example of his good work. I use William Paul for my MOTs and servicing and he can usually have it back to me after one morning - assuming there are no major issues. He keeps me up to date on his progress with my car and always forewarns me if there are an major issues or expense, prior to carrying out the work. Some garages just go ahead and fix it regardless of checking you are able to afford the bill! Labour is charged out at £25 per hour, which is very reasonable. I'm glad to see his business doing so well and I will continue to support his venture, even though it's a 2 and a half hour drive there!

Finding out that someone has ripped you off completely can be a very stressful discovery. Say you go to a mechanic for an MOT and he fails your car and suggests £350 worth of work that needs doing. He then takes his £45 up front for the MOT test and "strongly suggests" that you get the work done at his Auto repairs shop. If you go somewhere else and get another quote or repairs, you can come back to get it retested without any additional MOT test costs. BUT, it's highly likely he/she might fail it again and suggest more repairs just out of bitterness. Eventually you find a mechanic who treats the car as his/her own and suggests cost effective ways of geting the job done with your circumstances in mind. For example there's no point you spending £90 on a wing mirror for a car you plan on part exchanging when you can get it repaired for £10. This is a family run garage with great friendly service. I spent a few hours at the here while they serviced/MOT'd it. Normally I do this to keep an eye on the job being done, keep them on their toes. You get it done quicker that way and they don't procrastinate. On this occasion though I found myself merrily chatting away and getting to know Yassar, Hamza and Ali. What a great bunch of young lads! The three were cousins and varied in terms of mechanical experiance, but the banter and enjoyment they got outta their work was inspirational. Whilst there, I also saw how people treat these mechanics when they come in for MOTs. I was frankly shocked by the obnoxious nature of some people who weren't very subtle in hiding their attempts at looking down on these highly skilled and knowledgable individuals. I began to see why so many mechanics are always moody and evasive. All of these revelations made me appreciate these guys even more. They were just happy to have a customer who actually asked them how their day was going. I shall be coming back here for my MOT from now on and reassured them that I'd spread the word. So there...I've done it.. So don't be put off by the secluded nature of this place, or the fact that it looks rundown and a bit grimey. The service is very good!

Hes a one man mechanic who is also a big fan of social media (live by the sword die by the sword) & radio star (The Car Guru on Oldham's 96.2 The Revolution). Paul made me feel very much at easy today when dropping my car off. A Very friendly bloke who explains stuff in english & doesn't confuse you with mechanical jargon. He is also "Female Friendly" approved. As a driver i'm now glad i have found somewhere where i feel i won't be ripped off.

Just a small garage on the A67, in the middle of nowhere that provides MOTs when you need it. Open…read more7 days a week, no appointment required. You just arrive & join a small que, however on Saturdays it can be quite long. There is no fuel available here or any other amenities, never needed the loo but I'm sure they provide one if needed. Just because it's in the sticks, the MOT inspection is of the same standard as everywhere else & takes just as long. I have used this place for the past couple of years on recommendation & would continue to do so. I have both motorcycle & car, they both get tested here. I think it's only open Sunday mornings.

Took my car in for MOT, ran fine (but old car). Passed MOT, great, just needed two front tyres. I…read morepaid for them (£135), but when I came to drive it home, the engine wasn't firing on all cylinders... Weird because it was fine before the MOT... I asked them what had happened and they seemed to have no idea. So it ran fine before... had its MOT at McGuires, after which it had engine problems... The only thing it could be is that the mechanics have absolutely revved the hell out of the little car in order to get it up to temperature for the MOT, instead of letting in get to the right temp in a normal time... and therefore killed the car off. So no, won't be going again. Of course the damage will cost more than the car's worth to repair. Furious that I've bought new tyres for a now broken car.

(Thanks for the RAC Man who told me about the 10 year necessary change) Also had glow plugs ( 3 out of 4 had failed - did not like cold starting) and MOT done + full service Car picked up and dropped off at home - every time absolutely brilliant The prices charged were absolutely fair and not the normal LR ripoff - ok so I DID NOT GET THE CAR WASHED - £7.50 on White Lund.
