Easy to order online, pickup time was fast, cake part was moist and fresh, chocolate was super duper heavy and rich and this is how they served the dozen Boston cream cupcakes that I ordered for my husband's birthday. I took the pics in their parking lot. I looked at them inside the store and said awww they're already smashed and the employee just smiled deadpan looking at me and said nothing or offered to correct it so I left since this was my first time ever trying them out and making mental notes accordingly. That's the dab of cream on the top of the box that wasn't even filled inside the cake itself or under the chocolate frosting. Traditionally, Boston cream pie is yellow sponge cake with a cream or custard layer topped with chocolate ganache sooo I thought the cupcakes would have a cutout in the cake to add the custard inside and topped with chocolate frosting; clearly I was mistaken. Tasted good, but pretty disappointing with the assembly and presentation. The pup-cakes on the other hand were a big hit with our four pups! They were carrot cake flavored with peanut butter frosting and a milk-bone topper. I went to the Smallcakes on Mockingbird years ago when it was still open. They have some of the best cupcakes you can find! They are very moist and are not too sweet. I hope they open a location in Dallas proper because I don't wanna travel to Plano or Mesquite. However, I will if I have to--they are worth the drive! Please check them out if you can! read more

This 3 rating is almost entirely due to the customer service. The young lady behind the counter couldn't have been less knowledgeable or apathetic. I ordered the smash cake thing and she gave me a cupcake and a single serve of ice cream. I had to assemble it myself in the car and had to request a bowl. My questions about Ice cream flavors and cupcake flavors were left under answered. With all of this being said the cupcakes were great. The first taste of the red velvet frosting really surprised me. The sponge of the strawberry was very moist and the buttercream frosting tasted fresh with no shortening or preserving agents. I like that they have different flavors of cupcakes and seasonal flavors. I stick to the traditional flavors but have purchased seasonal flavors and people love them. Hello! We went into Small Cupcakes around noon to buy two cupcakes, a lemon and carrot cake. The wife/owner greeted us which is always nice. The husband/male owner was in the back. As always, all the assortment of cupcakes were beautiful looking. They unfortunately didn't have my favorite "wedding cake" because they only have them on Wednesday and Thursday, my fault because I thought that flavor was on Fridays. My daughter and I just took a fork to taste both cupcakes and the lemon cupcake was super moist, fluffy, huge in size and was fully cooked. Unfortunately the carrot cake was not so delicious. It was raw and not fully cooked, still dark looking because it might have needed about one minute longer or so. Talk about a WAY smaller cupcake. There is no consistency with the sizes of these two cupcakes. In baking or in any food environment, consistency is key. All chefs, bakers, bartenders etc must be consistent. I have never had a bad experience with this location except this time with the cupcake being raw. For this brand of cupcakes, Small Cupcakes and costing $3.75 each, they should be fully cooked. I do still recommend this brand and this Mesquite location. I live in Mesquite so I will continue to go there when we get a sweet tooth. Hopefully next time I buy a carrot cupcake, it'll be delicious. Just not so good today unfortunately. I highly recommend the lemon cupcake. Shop local, Support Mesquite! read more

Clearly in the minority here, but I can not rate this place as more than just ...good. I have had three different cakes. I have the same feelings. The price and size of cakes are good, frostings are delicious, and so is the ice cream, but the cake, itself was okay, a bit dry even, each cake. At a cupcake place, the cake counts. The cake tastes like your standard grocery store cupcake. I am assuming it is a dog friendly business, although I did not see any, I believe I smelled dogs. I love dogs. I have a dog, but when I go out to eat (even cupcakes) I would rather not smell the dog scent. I love desserts, and there are some places I can not pass without going in. This will not be one. But everyone I know loves this place, so check it out yourself. read more
