a variety of cupcakes in a box

Highly recommend! I live out of state and ordered through Uber Eats to have cupcakes delivered for my son's birthday. There was a small mistake on the order, but Blaine went above and beyond to correct it, personally delivered the items that were omitted from the original order, and added an extra treat. My son said Blaine was great and the cupcakes were amazing! We'll be stopping in whenever we're in Lawrence for football games. Thanks for the exceptional customer service!

I had almost given up. For years I have traveled to different stores, bakeries and eateries seeking the perfect cupcake. And throughout my travels I came across some that were OK, some that were "meh" but never finding one that excited my palate and had my mouth watering for more. Until I came across a little place called small cakes. I had drove by this place many times before and I always told myself I was going to go in and check them out but due to countless disappointments with other bakeries in the past I always came up with a reason not to go in. But as I sat and looked at the store front after just leaving Petsmart to pick something up for my kitty cat I decided I was going to pick up a little something for me. So I went in First of all the location of this place is really a hidden gem. It is snuggled in a store front and actually has direct competition with a donut shop to the left of it and it has a hair shop and a phone store to the right of it so it's kinda oddly stuck in this area and because you have to turn off of a main road to get up into it, it's very easy to drive by and not see it. But I'm a quirky kind of girl so I usually catch the stuff that most people would ignore. First of all you walk in and I love The layout. All of the cupcakes are upfront, very visual and they all sit in glass toppers so that you can clearly see what is available. The menu smacks you in the face the minute you walk in. it sits up high, the words are big and colorful so that you know exactly what they have and what it cost. What I love most is they don't have 25 different flavors and 25 different sizes of cupcakes. I love the simplicity of having a few flavors, having two sizes of cupcakes real small minis and then the regular gourmet size. This makes it easy for you to choose what you're going to get and what flavor you have to choose from instead of looking through an array of different types trying to figure out if it's worth your time. I'm also the type that I don't like real wild flavors when it comes to cupcakes. I like traditional flavors with a little kick and that is exactly what I got with these. I purchased the strawberry chocolate cream, the vanilla caramel crunch, and the cookie and cream. I have not tasted the vanilla caramel crunch in the cooking cream simply because of the size of these cupcakes they're gourmet size so you have to take your time and eat them. But I did eat the strawberry chocolate cream and it was divinely delicious! Hoodoggie good!!! As I took bite after bite the love affair between me and small cakes became more intimate because the cupcake was fluffy, the icing was flavorful and not overly sweet. it was decorated beautifully and the taste was wonderful. I'm so in love with small cakes right now that I will have to take our relationship to the next level here pretty soon. I may have to hire them to cater an event that I may be having around Christmas and considering how well we've hit it off there may be a match made in heaven coming very very soon. I've said it over and over again that some of the best food is made in some of the smallest, most unchartered, undiscovered places and even though this place does have a Food Network sign on the door, it is one of those places that you stumble across ...but once you stumble you're down for the count and you might as well just surrender because the small cake won the big bake!!!!!

Wow these are really good cupcakes. Some of the best icing I've ever had! Don't be fooled by the half-eaten ones in the photo; just trying to pace ourselves! They'll be gone soon.

I used to love this location but I feel like it went downhill.. either that or the McLain's…read morelocation off of Roe is just that much better. The location off Roe (and yours) has the chicken finger snack. At the location on Roe it's freaking incredible. The coffee bbq sauce is next level.. but at the Lawrence location it's overly greasy and the chicken is shaped weird. You also didn't give me the coffee bbq and that made me wanna cry. Also I know Lawrence has a bag ban but pleaseeeee give paper bags. I don't like my crappy chicken strips or girl breakfast flying around my car Also not great matcha. I really like your lattes and cake though! I never go inside because it's too crowded.. so obviously you're doing something right when the inside gets so full. Also love the vibe. Anyway I have mixed feelings as you can tell. Byeeeee!

It's too pricey for the quality. The location is nice and I do like the interior. It is fashioned to be very neo-quaint (I made that up). Everything is very eye catching and pleasing. They sell t-shirts, caps, dry tea and coffee. You can get all sorts of knick-knacks at this restaurant. The food is order at the counter style and they bring it to your table. I was here with a friend and we told the cashier we were eating in the restaurant. The funny thing is they brought us all disposable utensils. People at other tables had glass drinking cups but we had paper. Very odd and my friend was not too happy about us being singled out in this manner. I love biscuits and gravy and I thought the McLain's version was both good and bad. The biscuits and gravy were good but it came with a scrambled egg and hash browns. They were terrible. Microwave oven best. They don't give you a choice of egg- which is telling. You automatically get scrambled. I guess that's the best the microwave could off up. The total price on the biscuits and gravy and microwaved scrambled egg and hash browns was almost $10. Not worth it at all. My friend had the Farmer sandwich. It looked good and it was very big but my friend was unimpressed. All the items on their menu seemed overpriced. Bottom line for me is that it's just OK, nothing special. The restaurant is easy to access and visually appealing. There are no issues with staff and everyone seemed pleasant enough. I just think this place could be better.
