Vivian was the first baker we met with when looking for a wedding cake for our October 2015 wedding--and the last. We went for a tasting with her and hired her on the spot. Looking through her portfolio, I was impressed by Vivian's range--she can rock a seven-layer white wedding cake with pillars and a fountain, and also create a colorful topsy-turvy carnival delight. She worked with us to create something elegant yet unusual for our fall brunch wedding, and we were thrilled. We had a two-layer paisley-shaped cake. One layer was chocolate raspberry chip (which you MUST try) and the other was French vanilla with lemon filling, all covered in vanilla buttercream tinted a pretty peach color. We asked for an informal, dynamic spackle-look to the frosting, and she delivered. She also created edible flowers and added chocolate-covered strawberries to complete the look. The cake looked beautiful and tasted delicious--I really appreciated that the frosting was not overwhelmingly sweet. It also froze well, so that it still tasted fresh after we got back from our honeymoon. Pricing was pretty good for a wedding cake; we paid about $225 for 40 servings of cake (though our caterer wangled more than that out of it), and that included delivery to KC and the flowers and strawberries. Vivian delivered it right on time to our venue and set it up quickly and beautifully. Everyone loved the cake. A great product isn't the only important thing when hiring a vendor--liking the person who performs the service is just as vital. Working with Vivian was great. She always answered the phone promptly, welcomed us warmly into her home for our tasting, and took copious notes about our likes/dislikes. She welcomed reference photos, weighed in with her professional opinion when asked, and really let us know that she is extremely competent as well as passionate about her job. Vivian takes obvious pride in delivering beautiful, fresh, yummy cakes, and effortlessly makes you feel at home while you taste and design them. When I originally met the baker I was skeptical because she makes cakes out of her townhouse and it wasn't any clear signs of where I was supposed to be going. She was pleasant and stated she baked for many years. After placing a deposit with her, she basically became unresponsive to my calls and emails. I attempted many times to contact the individual and she told me that she "doesn't have time to sit at the phone all day and that she has another job..." from there forward trying to communicate was far fetched! She sent many disrespectful emails and I now have to find a new baker for my wedding cake. This is not a good business and nor is Ms. Vivian professional. We left the meeting planning to meet with a couple more people but within about 10 minutes of leaving we had decided that we thought she'd do a fantastic cake at a great price and it would be delicious so we booked her as soon as we got home. It had four layers and each layer was a different flavor. she uses real vanilla and real coconut etc, in her cakes. I also had my wedding cake in 2014 made by Ms. Vivian. It was a very small wedding, since it was my second marriage; but the cake was so beautiful and tasted so moist and delicious. I do not recommend this cake decorator. I hired her for my older son's birthday cake in 2016, a 3D Minions-inspired cakes, and things went well. However, I then tried to work with her this March for a two-tier Lego-themed cake, and the experience was a COMPLETE DISASTER!! The large top tier, a Lego-man head fell over into the 2nd tier and the side of the box before we even made it to the party. The tiers had no stents through them to stabilize the top tier into the bottom tier. I was so upset that my son's cake was ruined, not just because I'd paid Ms. Vivian $150+ for the cake, but, more importantly, because one of the main highlights of my son's party was this cake that we were so excited about. I was so upset that I neared tears. I messaged Ms. Vivian during the party to put her on notice and figure out why the cake was not stable enough to make it to the party. She first accused me of dropping it, then went to it must have been left in a hot car, then went to me driving wreckless causing the cake to be damaged. None of these things happened, which I explained to her. She did nothing to reasonably remedy the situation, and I do not recommend her to anyone desiring a cake decorator to appropriately ensure a cake can be transported to an event location. She never offered or mentioned that she had availability to deliver the cake. I would have gladly paid for delivery. I had planned to use her for a second cake the next month, but given the terrible experience, I promptly found another vendor who did a great job! read more

Vivian makes the MOST beautiful cakes, but the taste is what is beyond, well, SPECTACULAR!!! The cakes are very, very moist and the frosting is especially delicious because she makes it with real butter instead of the nasty shortening that they use at so many bakeries. My mom and I ordered a cake for my parents 50th anniversary party. She had eloped and therefore hadn't had her own wedding cake. We ordered a tier of lemon, one of white chocolate, and one almond. I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite, but it would probably be the lemon, or the almond, or maybe the lemon. Well, it's hard to decide and she has so many choices that it was hard for us to select the three. Vivian brought the cake in at EXACTLY the moment I had asked her to.
