I have loved McLains since I first moved to KC over 30 years ago. I just recently learned they have…read morea location closer to me! The chocolate drop cookies are to die for. Chicken salad is also very tasty.

For the first time ever I used McLain's for catering and I'm officially bumping my review from 4 to…read more5 stars because honestly they did such a spectacular job at such a reasonable price I'm already wishing I had another excuse to order from them again! A few months ago my sister and I hosted a baby shower for our other sister and after looking around an options we decided to go with McLains. It was a smaller group, and we were doing a brunch theme, and our sister LOVES sweets. That paired with our desire to support local, and our shared love of McLains, this was just the most obvious choice. We ended up ordering a cake and first of all I have to say their cake flavor choices are insane - I think we settled on a chocolate cake with peanut butter filling (YUM), but I don't think you can go wrong here. We also ordered one of their pre-set pastry bundles for pick up and honestly everything was wonderful. I think I placed the order about a week out and it was ready when I came to pick it up. What pushed this experience into five star category for me? Just the friendliness of the staff, the serving tools they send you home with, and how thoughtful everyone was. The food was also really just exactly what we needed and it was so good there were hardly any leftovers, I think the kids cleared us out by lunch! At any rate, if you're on the hunt for a great spot to support for your next brunch event consider McLains - they won't let you down!

As a northlander, I am so grateful to have a McLain's north of the river and on my way to work…read moreevery morning! The pick-up is so quick and easy - just order online, pop-in, and grab your order off the shelves to the left of the entry door. You can't go wrong with the food here from girl breakfast, to the plain + simple breakfast sandwich, to the pepperjack burrito, to the market bowl, lunch menu and their many many mouthwatering pastries. And don't forget about the coffee! They have both real mugs and to-go cups. I love their regular drip coffee, cold brew, cappuccinos and lattes. The cafe's interior design is modern, chic and comfortable with a mix of booth and table seating. I can usually find a seat for 2-4 people, groups larger than that may have a hard time finding a seat during peak times like weekend mornings. Seasonally, McLain's offers outdoor seating, too. Best of all, the staff makes you feel right at home - welcoming, friendly, helpful, hardworking and clean. Parking is angled street parking out front. Sometimes I have to walk a bit but never more than a block. Just writing this has me craving McLain's already.

With a wide variety of pastries, hot food, and coffee drinks you're sure to find something! The staff is very friendly and accommodating to any questions you may have about the menu. This is a frequent stop for me and never fails to meet or exceed my expectations. Today's simple visit consisted of bottomless drip coffee and a chocolate chip cookie while getting some bright natural light to read my current book!

I wish I could put zero stars. I ordered a cake for my brothers birthday 2 weeks in advance. When I…read morecalled , I was directed to email with my idea of the cake , I was called back and told how much it was going to be and that was the end of that conversation. The day it was time for me to get the cake I scaled ahead to make sure they were going to really be open and to my surprise there was no cake . First she lied and said there was no number and when I told her she actually called me back and described to her the contents of our conversation. I know that she had the number because I had to send a second email in response to my prior one with the number , and she called back very quickly . My order was placed over the phone . She said that "their policy of 25 years " was that you pay for the cake first , and that there was never an ordered placed because it wasn't paid for . She said "nobody here would've told me that " despite the fact that nobody prompted me for payment after I spoke with them on the phone . They are rude , unprofessional , extremely inconsiderate not to mention the fact that they don't take accountability for their own errors . Since she wants to say that it wasn't a honest review of the situation, I left receipts .

Our cake was not up to the expectations explained over the phone. HOLY CANNOLI!!!! If you love Italian desserts like I do,…read morethen you must make a stop at Scola's Italian Cookies. As a Sicilian woman who grew up with the real deal (Nonni's kitchen), I am very particular about sweets--and Scola's delivers. First of all, the cookies are authentic, not overly sweet, and full of flavor. Each one has that perfect homemade texture--slightly soft in the center with just the right amount of chew. You can taste the quality ingredients: pure butter, real citrus zest, almonds, and sometimes a little anise that brings you right back to Nonna's Sunday table. Their variety is impressive. Whether it's classic amaretti, ricotta cookies, or something seasonal and creative, every bite is a delight. And if you love desserts that aren't sick-sweet but balanced, this place gets it. Not cloying, not fake--just honest, beautiful Italian cookies. The staff is friendly and proud of their treats, and the presentation makes everything look as good as it tastes, be sure to grab a loaf of bread!!

I too had a little sticker shock at first, but when I stopped to think what just sugar cost alone and that they are handmade with such care, they are very worth it. I happen to be hooked on the little fig cookies. (Although I have tried several other items. All good). But every time I have the fog cookie they are consistently delicious. No skimping on the fig. Icing glaze always perfect. So delicious. I wish I had a picture to post, but ai ate it too fast to photograph. I dont mess around.
