My company orders monthly for birthday celebrations within the office. The cupcakes come in a variety of flavors, though I find very sweet for my preference. Love how they are packaged as they are nestled safely for transporting. Overall, a solid choice of cupcakes is your thing. I can't speak to ambiance as I've never been in the location.

Super disappointed!! I spoke with Christian over a month in advance about a 21st birthday cake for my son. I explained that I loved the cakes that I have seen with the various different alcohol bottles and the Barbie doll pouring over the toilet. I asked if he could ADD a decorative THC leaf or joint (without losing the original theme) He said yes, no problem. What I got was ridiculous for the price paid $163.05 I would've rated this a one star but the cake flavor was good. I did send an immediate text upon picking up the cake from the nail salon next-door, (no one is available from the bakery on Sundays for pick up so they have the neighbors help do their deliveries- which I found out that day when I texted) explaining my disappointment and I got NO response. To me this is not a bakery that's concerned about customer service - places that are concerned about customer service respond when a customer is not satisfied. Be very careful when you order and be very specific and ask them to confirm prior to picking up.

The cupcakes are the bomb! more on that later.......We chose Small Cakes as 1 of 5 bakeries that we were going to feature at our wedding reception. the review is mostly about expectations, and then the product. When you sign up for the tasting, they send you to the bakery in Ahwatukee located a strip mall. The banner hanging up is sun faded and and deteriorated and then you go in for the tasting and it is like a mullet, it is all business in the back of the house where the magic happens, but the front area is non descript, not very clean. but they offered you a small table with two chairs, there were three of us. They didn't have any other chairs. You actually meet with the baker and they bring out the cupcakes a few flavors and options. The baker couldn't give us a lot of information on pricing or something that detailed all of the options avaialble to us for cupcakes and cakes. We were looking more for cupcakes and a 6" cake for the reception. So she calls her boss Jordan (sp) and she was a delight on the phone, very reassuring that they were the company to help us with our needs. Jordan stated that they didn't have an official price list or menu available, but she asked the baker to get a piece of paper by the register. i was able to get a picture of what they did have available for choosing. So we put together our list of items and Jordan was going to put together a quote for us. Fast forward we get the quote for I believe 4 dozen cupcakes and a 6" cake (nothing too fancy). We also got some bids for the cake from other bakers and the price was significantly more with Small cakes. I called to ask some question about the disparity, the owner answers the phone and I asked what the difference was and he said that is our price and we are nto going to match. The whole exchange seemed off. He would text saying we are filling up fast you should order before we get to our capacity. Remember the cake tasting, well there was a $50 fee for this service, although we tasted a lot of cupcakes, we were not offered any drinks, including tap water. The $50.00 was supposed count towards your purchase. This had to be brought up. Again, nothing formal, not even a hand shake, text message detailing out what you ordered or an email, 99% was all verbal with the exception of the receipt. Now for the best part, damn those cupcakes were delicious, moist and light on the inside and just a tad of crunch around the muffin top the icing was not overly sugary where you would want to scoop it off. We had some of the cupcakes stuffed with filling; jams and creams We tried cakes and cupcakes from all over the valley and damn the cupcake offerings at Small Cakes were incredible. We are grateful that Jordan, took control communicating often, asking if she could assist along the way. Jordan was helpful by setting up and delivering the cupcakes herself, felt bad that we were unable to connect in person while she was there, but appreciated her arriving on time and taking some stress away. For me, I like things detailed, like your choices in flavors, options and especially the costs and I would like it spelled out on an quote or contract; Small Cakes doesn't offer this service, so if you are looking for that, this might not be the place, however, if you are looking for some delicious cupcakes with some fantastic flavors than Small Cakes is the place for you. 10/6/24 - very small shop, good cupcakes, freezer with small batch ice cream. We popped in this particular Saturday after eating lunch at a place nearby. The young lady behind the counter was very polite, there was a good selection of cupcakes to choose from, plus we picked up three quarts of the ice cream. I will say, the ice cream was most definitely not worth the money. The passionfruit was powdery. I don't know how or why it would taste that way but after one bite I was willing to toss it; there was no saving it in my mind. I think my sister choked it down just so as not to waste money. The pistachio was the best of the three, but still not worth $10. The mint chip was goopy and gooey, not in a good way. The cupcakes were most definitely the best purchase, but we have a bakery closer to home that's pretty awesome, so unless we're in the Ahwatukee area, we likely would not visit Smallcakes again.

if I can leave a zero stars I would , let me start off with the design of the cake that I wanted vs what I got it was a nice designed cake Don't get me wrong just not what I wanted . I had my husband pick up and saw it in person otherwise I would have not accepted the cake . Now let's get to the actual flavor of the cake it was way to moist as if it was raw . Wayyyy too sweet all of my invited guests told me it was too sweet to even finish I reached out to whom I was texting and now they don't respond to my feedback . Most of the cake was left to throw away . I paid $255 for this cake and would love to speak to the owner . whomever I ordered cake from also did finally reach out and sent some very unprofessional Messages .

Ordered a custom lemon cake for my best friends 30th birthday. I presented a Pinterest photo and man did they deliver. Everyone including My best friend was thrilled upon opening it. Not only did it look great but it tasted even better ! I did ask for no frosting on the top/bottom and although it was still included overall the experienced and the result made it well worth it. I highly recommend this place. Customer service and taste was 10/10

This place is the epitome of a Mom and Pop shop. When we visited, we saw the owner and (we believe) his daughter running the cute little shop. We were looking for a custom cake for an adult family member's birthday. We've never bought a custom cake before (which I'd communicated when I phoned) and didn't know what to tell or ask. We wanted a Godzilla themed cake and in dialogue with the owner, we settled on a "jungle" theme. Having looked at the portfolio of images on their website, I assumed that, for the $125 cake price for a small cake for 6-8 people, there would be some kind of decor made of frosting on top, such as leaves, trees, vines... that kind of thing. There was none of that. The cake -- which was absolutely delicious and the best white cake I've EVER eaten -- was plainly frosted in a green frosting without any other "artistic" embellishment made from cake or frosting materials. The rest of the decor was plastic stuff similar to what you'd get on Amazon or Temu. That was a surprise. We had already agreed that we would supply the Godzilla figurines, but upon arrival (on his birthday) seeing some plastic stuff adorn a small $125 cake, I had to bite my tongue and just get out of there. Our family member (a male) loved it and that's all that mattered. The owner promised to text us photos and never did. He also didn't respond to follow ups. When we cut the cake, another surprise was inside. Not the sprinkles we'd asked for and dialogued about when we ordered the cake. Just white filling that was made with almond extract. The birthday boy is allergic to nuts so... that could've been a major disaster, but thankfully we figured it out when someone else had tasted it first. Again, texted the owner about the mistake inside the cake and never heard back. Overall, impressed with the quality of the cake itself which was brilliantly baked and delicious. Underwhelmed by the manner in which our order was handled and the plastic thingies on top for the price, which were some letters, a plastic "gate" and net and 3 plastic/cloth fern fronds. The rest was supplied by us. At the end of the day, if I'd have known that we could've just bought our own cake at Bashus or Fry's and applied some plastic fern leaves, candy rocks on top and plastic letters for 1/4 of the cost, we'd have gone that way instead. With tax, our cake was $135 and we also spent $30 on Amazon for the Godzilla figurines we supplied.

Wow - I think I agree with a few others on here. If there was a Zero option - I would select it. We try to buy local as much as we possibly can to support our town. I ordered cupcakes for my wife's Birthday to pick up at 3 pm on her birthday. I got to the store (Thursday) at 2:45 pm and nobody was there. The door was locked even though the sign on the door indicated that they did not close until 6 pm. I called the number and a gentleman answered. He stated someone would be there in 10 minutes. 35 minutes later - no one had showed up. I tried to call back and no one would answer the phone and of course - voice mail is full. They did send me a text at 5:34 pm reminding me to pick up my order before they close at 6 pm - interesting. The team also did refund the money to my credit card that night after a few emails. I initially thought this was a scam but after looking on here it seems like a more systemic problem. This certainly does not help support promoting our local businesses. Customers time should be as valuable or more than that of the provider. There are more local owned bakeries - I highly suggest you seek one of those out!

I absolutely love this small bakery in Awatukee. I go there to get cupcakes for my dog's birthday and other events. They are always fresh and very nicely presented.

Drool and IG worthy bakery!! I am from out of town so I went on to Yelp to look for a bakery to make the cake for my friend's baby sprinkle. I decided to buy her a custom cake less than two weeks before the day and was in a bind. Luckily I reached out to Small Cakes and Christian and they were able to make it happen. I sent them pictures of what I wanted and made delivery arrangements over the phone. Very easy process. Christian gave me a heads-up before delivery and it was right on time! When I saw it, I was so happy! I knew the expectant mother was going to be so happy with it! Now even better was that this cake was one of the moistest, decadent, but not too overwhelming chocolate cakes I've ever had in my life. I ordered chocolate cake with whipped cream filling worried that it may be too sweet or rich for us considering we had an Asian palette. Nope, absolutely perfect. It was so good that I wanted more. Usually I will stop at one piece, but it was so easy to eat that I had to save myself from three slices. Thank you again for the wonderful job! I will definitely order again next time I'm in the Phoenix area!

This is my second time ordering custom cupcakes from here and I have to say I have been blown away both times! These are the cutest muppet cupcakes and they taste so good too! The process of ordering these was so easy and he was so kind and went above and beyond to make sure that I was happy with these for my sisters birthday! The shop is nice, clean and quiet as well. Will definitely use them again for future birthdays!

Stopped by here because we were in the area and who doesn't love a great cake, cupcake or ice cream? I brought home some doggie cupcakes for my little girls. I've split one between them every day and if dogs salivate then they love it. For myself I chose to bring home two as it was hard to narrow down to only one. They were closing in 20 minutes and still had a great variety of flavors. I decided to bring home a cookies and cream one and a red velvet one. I allowed myself one a day for 2 days and they were still as fresh as when I bought them! The Red velvet had to be my favorite of the two. While there a gentlemen picked up the cutest cake for his daughter with Mickey Mouse ears! Yummy! Treat this place right because they do it right. The boxes are adorable too!

I just found out about this place, and went and got the wedding cake cupcake today. I was super impressed! The size of the cupcake was pretty generous, the cake itself was moist and light, and I really liked the buttercream frosting. Honestly I think this was one of the best cupcakes I've ever had. Would definitely come again and try one of the other flavors the next time I'm in Ahwatukee. read more

I want to give this place a really really good review however, I was a bit disappointed with our sons first birthday cake. I came in 2-3 months prior and ordered super ahead of time. I was thinking it was going to be a wonderful cake but I can just say the cake tasted real good but the decor of it did not match. I was very specific with the young lady about what exactly my son liked and what I was expecting and wanted. Even showed her pictures of my ideas. All I got was a cake that was plastered with printed imaging for the wording, and a toy plopped on top. I specifically told the young gal I wanted woody and buzz and showed a half woody half buzz themed cake. What they gave me, It basically looked exactly like a previous cake they made which I told her I did not want it exactly like that, she said "I got you". The young gal made it seem like it was going to be amazing, and I even said I'd pay more money if needed to make sure it was what I asked for. 3 weeks before the pickup I called to confirm and check, and I can say the gentleman who answered, just kept saying, "it's gonna be more money, more money" . Okay??? What he described to me did not even match what the girl had in her notes that I assumed was passed to the cake decorator. I honestly at that point was already stressed out because his birthday was coming up quickly, so I just left it at that and didn't even bother changing what they wanted to do. Let's just put it this way, if you're okay with your cake being decorated with paper and a few nice pipings of icing, this is the place for you. The cake tasted great not gonna lie but if you want something that tastes great AND looks good, maybe look elsewhere. The lady working the day we went in was rude ! We went in my little sis asked oh you guys have mini cupcakes she said yeah no you have to pre order those !!! This is what we have right now what do you want ?!?! We got a dozen cupcakes and one single one for my nephews 18th Birthday we came from Seattle cause he just started at ASU , I found this place online and chose it cause they have my nephews favorite ( peanut butter and chocolate) they need someone else there greeting people with warmth and kindness especially since they are not cheap for the 13 cupcakes my sister got it was 48$ if you don't mind rude customer service and okay cupcakes be my guest but there are a lot of other places in Arizona so next time I would not return to this place read more

I was craving sweets and decided to give this place a try. I ended up getting 6 cupcakes; Oreo, Lemon, Wedding Cake, Birthday Cake, Red Velvet & Salted Caramel... They were sinfully amazing! The cupcakes are bigger than other cupcakeries I've gone to, perfectly moist and just the right amount of icing. Full of flavor, but not overdone! The place is adorable and the girl who helped me was super friendly and helpful. And they were open later than other dessert places I had found which was perfect. I'm not a huge fan of cupcakes! I'm a man....with a beard....a very manly and long beard reminiscent of a hillbilly/biker. I say this to illustrate why I tend to stray away from cupcakes and cupcakeries. The frosting is a huge pain to get out of my mustache and the dry cake is hell to pick out of my beard (unless I want a snack for later)! PLUS most cupcake shops tend to PILE on the frosting to help mask the lackluster flavor of the actual desert-dry cake. That said, when my wife suggested to the kids and me that we try Smallcakes, I was not exactly excited to try a new place to make my face dirty and begrudgingly swallow down a fist-sized swirl of frosting on an arid biscuit of a cake! I, however, was out-voted. Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery...I'm sorry I doubted you! Smallcakes is a small shop with both ice cream and cupcakes for sale and on display. My son ordered a "Smash" while the rest of us ordered various flavors of cupcakes. Their ice cream is wonderful! Dense and flavorful! SO good! Their cake is MOIST and flavorful and their frosting doesn't overpower the cake. Nor is there a pile of frosting the size of a softball perched atop their baked awesomeness. They have a wonderful balance of both cake and frosting because they have nothing to compensate for in either area! Out of all cupcakes purchased, everyone said they would most definitely order the same flavor again! ME TOO! Smallcakes has me eating my words "I don't like cupcakes"! I had an amazing experience and cake. I requested a drip collection cake for my birthday at the last minute and Smallcakes delivered beautifully. It was designed perfectly and taste fresh and so good. During this time of COVID I couldn't have family and friends around but wanted something special. I even shared with my neighbor who couldn't wait for a taste. Normally I'm out of town for my birthday but elected to stay home due to COVID. I thought a birthday cake would help to past the time and it did with this from Smallcakes. I rarely write reviews but this husband and wife team came through for me. Best cupcakes I've ever had!! I'll start by saying I'm not really a cupcake person because I've always been disappointed. I am very picky about a good moist cake, I could care less about the icing. To me it's just something to make it look pretty. But god this place changed my mind. Super moist cupcake with a not-to-sweet icing that was soooo delectable. They have also been featured on The Cupcake Wars a couple of seasons ago, pretty cool. The place itself is super cute, family owned and also has pupcakes for your pooch. My dog loveeed their little pupcakes and she's a picky eater when it comes to dog treats. So glad I found this place, thanks for converting me into a cupcake person :) read more

I was flying in town and needed a last minute birthday cake. I found them through a google search and I was not disappointed. I sent an email inquiry and had a response within hours. They were more than happy to make it for me and customized it just enough to add a personal touch. Customer service was great, very pleasant and enthusiastic about their products. While picking up I tasted a sample of their house made ice cream and let's just say I am disappointed that I didn't have time to order some - so delicious. The cake was very pretty and tasted just as good as it looked. I would definitely come back if I was in town, even just to get some carrot cake ice cream. read more

Awesome dessert place!!! They have great ice cream flavors including red velvet and the mint chip ice cream had huge chocolate chips in it. Then there are the cupcakes - birthday cake, wedding cake, red velvet cupcakes and a ton more. So yummy. The 3 of us had desserts for $12 - great prices for the size of the desserts. Honestly, not my cup of tea.. the cupcakes are nice looking but the frosting is super sweet! Also the pricing is not consistent maybe due to it being a new store. The cupcakes are ok but truly an average cupcake with a fancy topping and large $. Most likely would not come back here. read more

I stopped in when I was in the shopping center for something else and bought 6 cupcakes and shared them with my son, my mom and my nephews. We all loved them. It was definitely worth the drive for cupcakes for our housewarming. The cupcakes are large and have a decent amount of frosting on them, but not overwhelmingly sweet or to mask the dry batter. Their cupcakes were amazing. We got a dozen of one of each of their signature flavors plus the rotational cupcake flavors Mexican hot chocolate and margarita. All of the cupcakes were delicious and shareable. read more

Wife and I stopped in Friday 3/29 around 5pm and were the only customers at the time. The young lady said she would be right with us and went to the back room. After about 5 minutes we left. Maybe caught her at a bad time but felt the service was poor. read more

Yummo!!! We have sampled all the new cupcake & bakery shops that have popped up over the last 25 years in Ahwatukee and Smallcakes IS by far the best!!! We were greeted enthusiastically by Christian & Stephanie (husband and wife owners) and with so many to choose from, it was tough to make a decision. We eventually chose six and were on our way home to indulge in our decadence. I have to say they are not sickening sweet, have a light texture, super moist with the creamiest frosting that begs for more My husband and I rarely have sweets, so when we do, it has to be amazing and Smallcakes totally fits the bill!!! I love Smallcakes! I recently was on the hunt for carrot cake cupcakes for a friend's 40th- due to covid we had to cancel a trip at the last minute and there I was scrambling to get local stuff together. Smallcakes didn't have any carrot cake made, but they offered to make me a special batch that very same day. I couldn't believe it! How amazing is that?! On top of that, they were the BEST CARROT CAKE CUPCAKES I (and everyone else in the group) had ever had!! So freakin' delicious and perfect. Their carrot cake (24 carrot ) ice cream is also divine. Just visited Small Cakes for the first time and already inlove! The store is adorable when you walk in with all cupcakes being presented and fun ice cream flavors in a little cooler. The lady working immediately came out and was very friendly and helpful! She explained how they bake all their daily flavors everyday and also have a flavor of the day. Today was Coffee Mug! We got four which included Coffee Mug, Lemon Drop, Birthday Cake, and Pink Chocolate. The cake is very moist and fluffy. The cake to frosting ratio was perfect. I tried them after seeing all the good reviews, but I was not impressed. I got three different kinds. The red velvet, cookies and cream and one that looked like a hostess cupcake. They were very heavy, crumbly and tasted like they were all ready a day old. Will not go back. read more

I don't really Ever write reviews but the experience was one of the worst! I ordered online and the order unfortunately it was wrong. I called in to get it corrected the the employee told me to Repay for a new order ! She wouldn't help us at all . We asked to speak with a manger and she said "one will can call you in a few days" that's it ! I would stay away from bad service like this !!!!!! A response to the owner we used door dash . And we even called your location and your employee confines she didn't see the order correct and advised To pay again for what I already paid for . I'm sorry I can't remove my review . read more

Based on all the great reviews, I decided to give this place a try. I ordered 1 Chocolate Cream, 1 Peanut Butter Cup & 2 Wedding Cake Cupcakes. The cupcakes were beautifully decorated. The cake was nice & moist, but the frosting was unbelievably sweet. The chocolate didn't taste rich & chocolatey; honestly tasted like a box chocolate cake. The peanut butter frosting didn't have a strong peanut butter taste like I expected. However, the wedding cake cupcakes were AMAZING. They tasted exactly like a wedding cake. Absolutely wonderful shop! Have used them a couple of times and their cakes knock it out of the park every time! They went way above and beyond today, Valentine's Day, when my kids had an accident with our cake while walking in our front door! My daughter brought the smushed cake in and within 30 minutes they handed her back a beautiful refurbished cake! Absolutely delicious on top of being gorgeous! Thank you so so much! read more

I'm not a fan. $34 for 6 cupcakes (plus the app automatically defaults to a %15 percent tip? Not cool. It wasn't too cool either when I got home (literally 5 mins. after I picked up the cupcakes and the frosting was melted all over. They were on the counter when I picked them up - not too long after I got the text they were ready. They should have been kept refrigerated until pickup. Since they were a gift, I am completely disappointed. Moreover, I did a taste taste with the $6.00 cupcake (which automatically defaulted to a tip for $1.00 - making it very expensive for 1 cupcake) with hardly any filling compared to a duncan hines one I had made on the weekend - guess one which tasted better? Beautiful cake and tasted great too. The only thing was the customer service. The guy at the front wasn't too friendly to start with. Then when I confirmed my date, I emailed them a picture of the cake I wanted. Not even an email back. So I emailed two more times and still nothing back. I called and they told me they got my email.
