Fried chicken, yams and greens
Jamar U.

If you're in need of some real soul food in Corpus Christi, then Trap House Kitchen is just the spot you need. Went for lunch, probably the best time to go, and ordered the fried chicken plate/dinner with candied yams, and greens. I'm very picky about my chicken and the did not miss the mark - seasoned well, but not too salty, and juicy chicken with a natural size - PERFECT. Yams are my fav side dish to get and they we're cooked well - I prefer more cubed and sliced yams but anything is better than mashed. Greens were simply bomb. Ambiance is very homestyle/homegrown, they have their menu on a board that changes with the day or when they run out of certain things (you might want to get there early). Currently their hrs are 1130am - 2pm. Then 2:30pm to whenever they sell out. Hours may be subject to change lol Vern was a great host and was very great with recommendations. If you're looking to support a local spot that'll have you hooked, look no further.

Andy's Country Kitchen - Seafood platter and country fried fresh water catfish

The place has a sweet, cozy, and comfortable vibe that instantly makes you feel at home. We tried the seafood platter, and it was incredible -- everything tasted so fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The sides really elevated the meal, especially the charro beans, which are a must-have with it. Country fried fresh water Catfish was just as good -- juicy, well-seasoned, and super satisfying. One of the sweetest touches was the complimentary blueberry muffins while waiting -- soft, fluffy, and honestly the perfect start before the meal. And the desserts... WOW. The cheesecake slice and carrot cake were both absolutely mouthwatering -- rich, moist, and the perfect way to end the meal. The service made the experience even better -- our server Anna was incredibly sweet, attentive, and welcoming. Just a heads-up: this place is popular for a reason, so expect a 20-30 minute wait, but it's 100% worth it. Plan ahead and go -- you won't regret it! Highly recommend if you're in Corpus Christi!

What a great place for breakfast. It was busy but the service was great. First drink order- coffee…read more- came fast. Next the hot blueberry muffins. Then the menu, what to order. It all looked so good. My husband and I decided on the Mexican breakfast with 2 cheese con carne enchiladas, 2 over easy eggs, refried beans, flour tortillas and hash brown. The salsa had to be homemade, it was so good. It was the best part of our quick vacation. Also was really impressed by the wait staff. I counted 8 plates being hand delivered at the same time! Wow, impressive!

Butter Churn If…read moreyou're anywhere near Aransas Pass and you haven't eaten at Butter Churn, you're flat-out missing out. From the moment you walk in, you can feel it -- this isn't some corporate chain going through the motions. This place is dialed in. It is probably one of the most put-together restaurants I've ever had the privilege of visiting. Every detail feels intentional. Clean lines, modern touches, spotless floors, organized buffet, upbeat energy -- they hit every mark. The décor has personality without being overdone. It feels like a true family restaurant -- warm, authentic, and welcoming -- but with a level of polish most places never achieve. The service? Exceptional. Real smiles. Real hospitality. You're not just another table. You feel seen and taken care of. Now let's talk about the brisket. Unbelievable. I had to ask how they were doing it, and Mark was more than happy to walk me through his process. When brisket is smoked low and slow -- and they smoke theirs for 20 hours -- here's what happens: * The visible fat cap mostly renders down. * The intramuscular fat melts. * Collagen breaks down into gelatin. * The melted fat soaks deep into the meat fibers. So by the time it hits your plate? You don't see fat. You taste rendered fat and gelatin inside the meat. For $14 all-you-can-eat lunch, I kept waiting for the catch. There isn't one. I probably ate close to a pound and a half of brisket myself and still wanted more. Tender, perfectly seasoned, smoky without being overpowering -- the kind of brisket that makes you stop mid-bite and just nod your head because you know you found something special. You walk out wondering how they're not charging double. Everything about this place reflects pride -- pride in the food, pride in the service, pride in the entire experience. It's consistent. It's clean. It's efficient. And that kind of consistency is rare. This is only my second five-star rating ever. That's how serious I am about it. I apologize for not getting a picture of the brisket, I got too carried away with eating it. I live in Corpus Christi, and honestly, that's probably a good thing. If I lived any closer, I'd be there every single day. If you want authentic, high-quality food served by people who genuinely care about what they're doing -- Butter Churn is it. Five stars. No hesitation.

The salad bar is off the chain...anything you could want! The service was awesome, we definitely felt checked on but not in a bad way. It's a cute place that appears to have crowds at every meal.

Once our food arrived my bowl was mostly broth with a few pieces of chicken, while my wife's bowl was packed full , but the dumplings tasted like they were not fully cooked. We asked our server to take her dish telling him it wasn't fully cooked. Still no napkins, we had to ask our server Mr Martin F. He was only in charge of 3-4 tables and seemed to be having a hard time talking care of them. We finally received some napkins, and her second dish of chicken and dumplings came back, but again it wasn't fully cooked. I understand he's not in charge of the cooking of the food, that's the kitchen staff, but throughout our meal and as many times as he came to our table he never asked about topping off our glasses of tea. My wife asked to order something else instead of the chicken and dumplings, and ordered the roast beef meal, that was when our server asked about our glasses of tea. Someone should tell Mr Martin that when he comes to work to wear his pants up around his waist, and not down around his back side, or wear suspenders to keep his pants up. We ended our meal with our server apologizing for everything, but we were done. We think that my wife's meal should have been comped, but it wasn't. I did not tip that meal, and that is a first in a very long time that I haven't tipped a server. But his lack of attention to detail, plus his dress were beyond reproach.

I absolutely love coming to dine here. The service and food use to always be fantastic. I myself have been a server and bartender for 12 years. This was the first time I have never left a tip (I usually leave $20-100 no matter the cost of my food). On Thursday I came in to eat lunch with a friend. We were greeted and sat within 10mins of arriving. The host (Christopher) was a blessing. Another serve came to greet us and serve our drinks. The first time we met our server(Jasmyne E.) was when she came to take our order. She seemed in a hurry which was expected as it was lunch time. We placed our order at 12:30. It took almost an hour to get our food by this time the dining room was empty, and within that time not once did our server come to check on us. When we finally got our food the server had forgotten syrup, butter, jelly for our biscuits and said she would be back. My friends chicken fried steak was burnt, like black burnt inside and out. My sides were wrong, my eggs had been sitting long enough to be come cold and brittle, my pancakes were cold and hard (I had a hard time cutting them with a knife hard). We tried to wave down our server but she just gave us a dirty look, put up her hand and walked away. After waiting a while, like 15minutes, a buster came to give us syrup. We mentioned to him our food complaints in which he took my friends food back, I was so hungry by this point I didn't care it was cold and wrong. This is where I made the mistake. I took a bite of bacon (I ordered sausage) and noticed it tasted funny, I tried it once more and had to spit it out. I don't know if it was old or bad or what, I've never had to spit out bacon before. I took a bite of my eggs and choked, took another bite which got stuck half in my throat and had to gulp down my drink so I didn't choke because they had become very hard and fibrous from sitting. After finishing my pancakes is when my friends chicken fried steak was finally done. But by this time it was already 2pm, we had to leave to go get our kids from school. We asked them to go back and box it. We sat there and waited for someone to bring a check.... No server this whole time. No check... nothing. And as I said before the dining room was empty.... I literally told my friend if we don't get a check in 5minutes we're just going to have to leave. Right at 5minutes our server shows up with our check in which my friend stated it would be split but she wasn't going to pay for food she had to send back and didn't even get to eat in the 2hours we were there. The servers idea was to void off her food and hand me the entire check.... I promptly rushed over to pay. I asked the checkout girl (Taylor) how long that server had been there and she responded a long time and asked what was wrong. We then complained about our service and she seems very apologetic and distraught. She even asked if we got to speak with a manager in which we replied they never came by and now we have no time to speak to anyone. I was incredibly upset with my experience and would like it rectified. Once I got home my stomach cramped allll night long. Today I have a fever, and have been stuck in the bathroom all day. I can understand kitchens taking long and food being wrong without complaint (obviously because I ate my food). What I can't get over was our service (lack of and rude), and having food poisoning. As I said before I myself am a server and bartender. I understand things happen but not like this. This was the worst experience I've ever had somewhere.
