It is worth the stop just to see all the Route 66 memorabilia. The entire restaurant is decorated with a Route 66 theme. Having lunch or dinner of comfort food at this roadside diner, is a bonus. Looking at the menu, I was thinking about Chicken Wings or a Buffalo Chicken Wrap. Then I started chatting with three blue collar workers at the counter, they recommended the Fried Chicken and a Ham & Cheese Sandwich. They actually said, everything is really good. The restaurant was packed at 12:30 PM, so it must be true. When the waitress came to take my order, I ordered a Pork Fritter Sandwich. It basically was a Fried Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. The waitress said I make a good decision. It was on the thick side and the crispy coating had good seasoning. I only had them add, pickles and onion. It was served on a hamburger bun Instead of the chips that came as a side, I paid for an upgrade to fries. The fries were super crispy and skinny, reminisce of old-time Steak & Shake fries. The service was hospitable. It was obvious who were regulars and which one of us were first timers. That really didn't matter, we all got the same attentive service. If it were not for the Illinois 66 Passport, I still may be oblivious. The Illinois Passport is promoting 66 businesses on the first 301 miles of the original historical Route 66. The businesses start in Chicago and come all the way down the state to Collinsville. After visiting the business, you get a stamp in your passport just like your travel passport. Stagger Inn is definitely a historical neighborhood dive bar. It's 52 years old and still going strong. It has an old wooden bar, two rooms for dining and drinking and you can see into the kitchen from a large window. The staff was friendly and provided great service. I sat at the bar and ended up chatting with all the servers as they picked up drinks for their tables. When reading the menu, I was impressed that they hand-cut their fries and hand batter the onion rings. I am definitely going back for the onion rings. This visit I did the fries as a side and they were crispy and still had the skins on the potatoes. When they placed my plate in front of me, they informed me they do not season the fries. The bartender recommended that I salt them while they were hot. Preferring pepper, I gave mine a shake of black pepper. I liked that they didn't salt the fries, since I'm trying to reduce my sodium intake. My Stagger Burger was incredibly delicious. I added, Pepper Jack Cheese and Jalapeños. They were generous with the jalapeños and left the seeds in, so the burger had a little burn to it. For me, this burger was top-notch. Stagger Inn, thanks for the stamp in my Route 66 Passport. But after three separate interactions with this bartender, I don't want anyone else wasting their time or money here. Our group stopped in after a wedding. We were friendly and patient from the moment we arrived, but the bartender was rude from the start. A couple sitting next to us even warned us, "Don't even try with him--he's just not friendly." The first interaction was when my husband tried to order two Old Fashioneds. The bartender said we were ordering too slowly, walked away, and started taking someone else's order. It was so strange that we wondered if he was joking. The second was outside, when my husband tried to make friendly conversation and mentioned that we were visiting from out of state. The bartender said he hated the state we were from, then abruptly got up and left. We let it go. The third was when we went back inside to order a second round, roughly 20 minutes after arriving. He told us our entire group was cut off. We hadn't done anything to warrant that, so we left and went to another bar. The bartenders there happily served us and couldn't understand why we'd been cut off. Three interactions, and every one of them was unpleasant. I've never experienced anything like it at a bar. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Staff here was pretty young but the crowd here was more middle-aged than anything. It's in a pretty busy intersection too. They have Gaming Machines too. They have an outdoor area but it was too cold to be over there. In the far back room they have basically a Four Seasons room but they have a heater so it doesn't get too cold over there and boy does it feel like it could get to 90° over there like you're in a senior center or Florida! I met two female friends here for Happy Hour this past Friday. I thought I'd arrive early to secure a table, when I did the bar was already packed and it was just 5PM. I was greeted by a male bartender, who poured a good and refreshing Tito's with Seltzer. Pricing for a call brand was cheap. Not sure if it was a HH deal or not. I'll update that on next visit. The best way to describe, Catdaddy's is that it is an upscale dive bar. Its crowd was a good mix of ages, sexes and diversity. We were still there during the bartender change and the young lady who came on duty was also, attentive and friendly.
