Rusty Wallace Racing Experience- New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Rusty Wallace Racing Experience- New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Surprised my husband with the 8 lap driving experience for his Anniversary gift. He absolutely…read moreloved it! Staff was friendly and very informative. Safety was a definite and obvious priority! Thank you for making one of my husbands top childhood dreams come true!

I wanted very much to give this experience a higher rating than 3 stars. Let's talk about how the…read morerating was arrived at. I prefer to be positive, and so I assume that every establishment starts off with a 5 star rating and has to work hard to knock itself down. 7:15AM: Arrive at New Hampshire Motor Speedway a little earlier than anticipated. Buzzing with excitement. Even driving in the underpass to the track is thrilling. Unfortunately, Rusty Wallace loses 0.5 stars for absolutely shitty signage. It's confusing as to how the heck I'm supposed to find out where I am going, and I worried about accidentally driving the rental car onto the actual race track. Now that I think about it, racing a Kia rental may not have been such a bad thing. So we're at 4.5* now. 7:35AM: Checking in, and realize the whole process is a sales pitch. I suspect this might be how a person feels if they walk into a car dealership and announce that they want to spend lots of money. You are "strongly encouraged" to purchase many add-ons. From extra laps (if I wanted extra laps, I'd have purchased them when I bought my initial package), to an insurance package (they will remind you many times how costly a wreck might be... but forget to point out how many out clauses they give themselves in the insurance package so they won't have to pay up if you wreck), to ride-alongs (because "without one, you won't know what you're doing"). Minus 0.5* there. We're at 4*. 7:50AM: I get suckered into purchasing the in-dash video package. I am informed that the package costs $59 when the information emailed to me indicates that it is $49. The staff member tells me it is because they just added in "new video equipment" which is why the price may be higher. Umm, how about I call bullshit? I got your email 2 days before. I don't think you just installed a video system. Upon presenting the email, she drops the price to $49. I love it when a business makes up arbitrary prices. Minus 1* there. Now at 3*. 8:30AM: The training session is supposed to start at 8AM, but because they are understaffed, everyone sits and waits and waits. Minus 0.5*. 2.5* now. 9:45AM: Finally get out onto the track and race. The experience is everything that you expect it to be and more. An incredible thrill. Plus 1* to 3.5*. Remember the original issue of signage? Well the on-track signage sucks shit too. Rusty Wallace couldn't spring for an extra pylon or two to make it clear where you're supposed to brake? Or another roll of pink tape to mark the passing lanes? Seriously, when I'm driving a NASCAR vehicle, and pissing my pants because I'm afraid of driving into a wall, the last thing I want to worry about is if I can spot the single orange pylon (that is scuffed up, and is now mostly black and camouflages itself nicely with the racetrack wall) to know where I should brake. Minus 0.5* to 3*. So there you have it. 3*. Which is unfortunate because the driving itself was fan-fucking-tastic and would be a 5* by itself.

I've been going to this track since I was a kid with my family, and as with most of the local…read moretracks in NH, it "used to be better," but Lee is currently the best track in the area. There were always more cars competing when I was growing up, and it makes for a pretty boring experience when some of the classes lack in numbers, but they put on a decent enough show here. They could stand to put in a new sound system and perhaps have a live (auditioned) vocalist sing the National Anthem since the whole thing sounds pretty tinny, in my opinion. The concession prices are reasonable enough, but it's wonderful that they allow outside food and drinks (unfortunately, not alcohol - but they do have a beer tent!). The ticket price fluctuates over the years and for special events. It gets a little ridiculous when it's $15-$20, but as long as it stays around $10, we're happy to come back. My husband and I started "officially dating" on a Friday night at Lee Speedway, so it'll always be special to us anyway.

A great way to spend a Friday night under the lights and watching some fun racing. Easy access,…read moreparking is in and out with no real traffic and plenty of up close seating. Get right up by the start/finish line and you can meet the drivers after the races as well. Qualifying races are 10 laps and the main events are 25.... you'll get to see 10-15 races so for the $15 entry ticket that's a steal ($1/race). There's a beer tent where you can watch the race between turn 3 and 4. Perfect event for the kids as well. In addition to the racing there's a playground when they need a break from the left turns as well. Concessions are reasonably priced.

See photo of website that I checked today. I even had my wife call them to confirm because it is April 23rd and I wasn't sure if the season started yet. No one answers the phone. They just have a recording saying to check their website for days and hours. So we drove there. The ticket booth had a lighted sign that says, "Open" and listed their hours as Noon - 6PM Monday through Sunday starting April 19th but no one was there and many rides had tarps over them. We walked around looking for someone and finally found a person who worked there. They said they are only open on weekends. My wife explained that she called and no one answers the phone. The person said that we should have checked the website for their hours. She said, "We did and it says you are open." As does the lit up sign at the ticket booth! The person said, "Well all the rides are closed and covered with tarps." Anyway, my granddaughter started crying. She was so disappointed because we had told her all about the rides and bounce house and she had been so excited to go. We couldn't go back on the weekend because she was leaving to go back home to Maine on Friday. This place has gone downhill. This is the second time in the last year that it has been closed when it was supposed to be open and I will not subject my grand kids to this nonsense and disappointment, nor will I give my hard earned money to a company with such poor customer service. Save your money and go someplace where they will treat you right!
