This Ghost Hunt is more of a Ghost Stunt where the tour guide equips you with ghost hunting equipment (2 dowsing rods which apparently find water and death). The tour was interesting from the standpoint of learning the history of some interesting deaths and murders around the streets of downtown. But the small group of people wandering around like lemmings watching their rods spin around randomly was a distraction in my opinion. Ted, our tour guide, told interesting stories of the history of the island, military tales, the history of some of the bars and murders in said bars and Robert the Doll. Apparently David Sloan (local expert scribe on all things Key West) used to run the tour but began another tour specific to Robert the Doll at the Fort and handed the reigns off to Ted. Ted was accommodating when the normal venue they operate from was closed for a private event, he made sure to work with other businesses to have restrooms available before the tour. Excellent job! There are a number of Ghost Tours in the City and this one was a fun night out. Lots of history, seeing some cool buildings including the Masonic Temple, and a friendly tour guide make for a great way to spend 90+ minutes on a Key West evening. read more

Last night my brave, and adventurous 8 year old daughter and I went on the 10:00 Ghost tour/hunt and I still can't believe what we experienced!!! Our evening started off with the staff giving us equipment that could detect the temperature( which is important because a drop in temperature indicates paranormal activity), and an EMF reader with detailed instructions on how to use each machine and reminders not to blind anyone with the laser. Duh. Or point it in the sky since FAA frowns upon this for obvious reasons. Believe it or not, but we actually discovered orbs at the very first place we went to! I, and the woman standing next to me, started taking pictures of the building and while scrolling through we noticed her pics, taken mere seconds after mine, showed several orbs! We had never considered a ghost hunting adventure until we heard a vendors' presentation at the Hyatt Windward Pointe. Time, place, and price were right so off we went on a warm, but pleasant evening. A bonus was that, being mid-December, many of the buildings and homes were decorated with Christmas lights. Our guide Kevin was a great storyteller and kept us well entertained during the 90-minute walking tour through Old Town Key West. The walking was easy ... we got up to an elevation of 14 feet per Kevin. (Or maybe 16 feet!) I especially liked the stop at the brick walls of the Hemingway House where several cats appeared. They were obviously expecting Kevin's little cat treats. We ended the evening in a small room of the Viva Saloon for the last ghost story. It was a welcome chance to sit down there as well as earlier at the lighthouse where there was a picnic bench. A fun way to learn more about the characters who have contributed to the history of Key West. Even if you are a skeptic, you won't be disappointed. read more

To be completely honest the fourth star was purely because of customer service. I had inadvertently​ punched in the wrong dates for my Key West trip when booking ​they were kind enough to switch my tour to the correct date with very little effort on my part. The woman working check-in​ was very friendly and helpful, got me checked in, gave me my ghost hunting equipment and directed me to nearby​ bathrooms and the bar. The tour itself is probably a three, not for any lack of trying on Kevin's part. He is an excellent, entertaining guide, knowledgeable​ about the history of Key West and a great storyteller​​. The 'ghost hunt' was more lore of the odd and creepy, with nearly 20 of us in the group I don't​ know that I saw one of the 'energy detectors' blink and I didn't hear anyone comment on seeing temperature changes from the digital thermometers. Maybe it was just a quiet night. At the end of the day, it is a nice night out in Key West, you learn a lot of history​, meet some nice people, ​and for the price, it is still a great value. read more

We really enjoyed the walking tour! Our stops included Viva Saloon, the Lighthouse, a church, Bahama Village, and more. Much of the tour was spent going over the history behind these Key West landmarks with some paranormal/"haunted" stories thrown in. It was informative and easygoing. Our tour guide used to be (or maybe he still is) a school teacher and that gave him a relaxed persona throughout. At the end of the tour, you're given a small token to remember the tour. Honestly, this experience was a waste of time. Take dinner cruise. You like ghost stories, go to a camp fire. You literally walk through downtown listen to him tell you a story of who lived in the house and he may show you a picture of who lived there. When he told the young kids to behave themselves (and they were not doing anything) I kinda said okay this is BS. So honestly, my friends and I didn't finish the "Hunt" because it was incredibly boring, no real history. Do not waste your time. I had an awesome time with my friends during our ghost tour. We went to the 7:30p tour around the island to hear stories. It was a 90 min walk and about 6 blocks around, not that far at all. Our guide Kevin was so great, he was informative, funny and the stories were light hearted and a little spooky too. We ended in an actual room where ghosts believed to be in, and the rest were stops were ghosts had been sighted. This was perfect from me because the sun was setting right when we started so it wasn't to scary and we were messing with any ghosts or disturbing resting places, etc. Kevin answered any questions we had and even told us about other stories that weren't on the tour. Ok, I was trying to think of a nice way to put this but basically I'm just going to have to call Bullshit. I've been on multiple ghost tours in different states. They all had one thing in common. I learned a lot of history about the location I was in for the tour. I feel like I got very little of even the history of Key West. The EMF indicator, the crying baby doll, pointing a laser 7 stories above the street and being surprised that it's colder and finally the AM radio that was supposed to speak to us but really just seemed a lot like a way to waste time. Our Guide to the Other Side was very entertaining and captivating, and unlike some of the other tours in Key West you get to tour on foot, which allows you time to take in the experiences and explore more. Sloan's Ghost Hunt provides tools and devices specific to ghost hunting. This was definitely original nor was it offered by any other group to my knowledge. It provides a more interactive experience with the spirits and with one another. We received signals and got to hear voices whispering to us over a spirit box. The tour was informative and fun! We had a good time and our guide was really nice. It's nice to have a different experience on a ghost tour -- different from the overly theatrical tours in the area which I also found fun. I recommend the tour for a more intimate good time with a guide. I should also mention that they were the best customer service I experienced of any that I encountered while booking! Total A+! That being said, being a ghost hunt, I thought they would be a little more scientific with the "evidence" produced, so take the "orbs" and "EMF hits" with a very critical eye and huge grain of salt. This tour was recommended by our B&B. Should have went on the trolly ghost tour. David Sloan graced us with his presence, and it was clear he was the most important person in the group. Oh, and because he was in a "good mood" he told us he'd give us copies of his book after we'd finished the excruciatingly boating trip. 4 people bailed during the trip. We were also going to bail at our last stop at the oldest house in Key West, but soon found out we were locked in! I understand it was a historic site, and I'm sure agreements have been made by the organizations. However, seems it would be responsible to let your guests know. Instead of just listening to the guide tell stories and stand in front of locations, you actually have the opportunity to take an active roll in the hunt. They give you equipment to investigate on your own. Kevin our guide was very nice and did a great job. Our Guide Kevin was awesome, not only did he have the haunted history of Key West down cold, he had a very deep knowledge of general Key West history (he used to be a history teacher). It was difficult to hear the stories and the group was all irritated. We did not see anything other than the back of someone's head most of the tour. We left feeling undervalued as a consumer. I have done haunted tours in several cities including London, New Orleans and Baltimore. This tour was by far the worst. The stories were not believable or even true. They all started with "one time on our tour someone took a picture with a spirit" then he showed us a picture from the early 1900s. He made fun of my friends wife-called her greasy. Purchased this tour "night of" after reviewing and researching the two other haunted Key West Tours. My party and I had an absolute blast, laughing a lot while also learning quite a bit of history. The guide was cogent and funny with the facts, which I liked. Will definitely recommend and even make it a must see when brining guests to Key West. PS--I went into it dead tired from my day and it actually gave me a second wind to stay out and enjoy Key West at night. read more
