My 10 year old just got interested in playing lacrosse. Everyone who plays told us to go to Sling it to get him measured and fitted. Austin was the guy who helped us. He was so patient as he went through each piece of equipment. He took the time to fit AND explain to my son how to put them on. This was especially needed since we hadn't played a sport needing a helmet before. He even advised on small things like how to store the equipment and which bag is likely more useful for the kid. Loved Sling It! Lacrosse! The tab on our daughter's head snapped at a recent LAX clinic so we were looking to have it restrung. While there she looked at some other heads and gear. Brett was super helpful asking important questions about her age, position, and years playing to determine/recommend the best gear. This was her first year experiencing LAX and she had a great season on her HS JV team. She used her own money to purchase a starter crosse at the start of the season from a big box sporting goods store (which is how we knew she was in love with LAX). While it was a trusty crosse, she recently won a BAMShaft at her team's end of season party. That plus the snapped strings and the fact it's always better to have a second crosse for practicing, Brett helped her pick out a great new head designed for attack players. It was quite the education for us all and we ended up investing in a new STX head to put on her BAMShaft. Brett seated the heads on both sticks and also helped my husband sort out the strings for the old Brine head. Hubby really wanted to attempt to restring that Brine so when we got home he restrung that bad boy on his own and did a really nice job! We definitely look forward to returning to Sling It! I purchased a goalie stick that needed to be strung. Was told it would be ready in about a week. Called after that time and was told it was next in line and it would be ready that day or the next. Called the next day to confirm I could pick it up. I was told there were six sticks ahead of me, it wouldn't be ready for days (there were 5 or 6 sticks ahead of me when I purchased). When I told him I expected the stick today as promised, the store manager Austin gave me attitude, yelled at me, hung on up me, and didn't answer the phone when I called back. He eventually answered and I asked for a refund. Decide for yourself if this is where you want to shop. Mind you I have been going there for over 10 years for both my kid's equipment. We do shop a lot on line because prices are a bit more competitive but I'm glad we have a local lacrosse shop. Let me start by mentioning I have four very enthusiastic lacrosse players from 10 years old up to college. We use to shop in Dublin with Mario from California Lacrosse (great guy, knows lacrosse, excellent customer service) until he went out of business about 3 years ago. So needless to say we were excited to have a lacrosse store open nearby. Wow, how aweful Joe is!!! Rachel hit the nail on the head- RUDE!!! RUDE!!! We have spent thousands in his store, yes we are ignorant! My husband begs me "give the guy a chance" so we go back. Out of 30 visits to the store Joe was decent once or twice, i'll give him that. We shop online not only because of Joe's attitude (short man syndrome I think) but the store is limited in selection and prices are not as good. I know they have to make money. I can appreciate that however i do not believe in paying to be treated like crap. Joe makes you feel like your questions are intruding on his time, excuse me!? isn't that why he's there?? It's sad because the young people he has working there are actually helpful, pleasant and mostly knowledgeable. The last time we were there Joe very harshly berated the young man helping us to the point we were embarassed.. The kid was doing his job and asking Joe the question we had asked him in which he didn't know the answer and was seeking assistance. In addition to Joe's poor attitude, he actually down right lied to us when we went in for a uniform fitting. We were told by San Ramon Lacrosse to go in and have our child try on uniforms for size. When we arrived we were given a uniform from another club. I questioned this and was told San Ramon would be changing their uniforms and that this was the correct outfit to try on. I was suspicious as my husband is one of the coaches!!! i called the club while I was in the store to be told nope, no changes, it's the same uniform as last year. The reason the club highly recommended trying the uniforms on is because many didn't the year before (including us) and tops were too tight and bottoms too short. This is when Joe became VERY angry and told me "look this is what i have and this is the uniform". Needless to say we left, AGAIN emptyhanded. Of our 30 visits, we probably left with nothing 20 times. How stupid on our part and out of laziness, not wanting to drive to Redwood City where their are other good shops. Rachel unfortunately I was informed Joe IS the manager. I think the franchise is from Las Vegas and have tried to contact them regarding lovely Joe. Alamo/Danville is such a great area where most people have the money to spend I find it horriffic this guy gets away with treating people the way he does. Maybe he just doesn't like women?? Nah, he's an ass to my older son as well. SHAME ON YOU JOE!! We won't be back and we warn our team parents before they go to Sling It. I only gave 1 star becasue it's not possible to review if you don't but if I had that option this place would have gotten a half star. Make the drive or order online. Best experience I've ever had in a retail shop, EVER. Seriously, I will never go anywhere ever again for lacrosse gear. It was quite refreshing to find a place where the employees were not only friendly but incredibly knowledgable of the products while also willing to teach their customers anything and everything they need to know about lacrosse. The ENTIRE staff is great, and also ALL active members of the lacrosse community in the area as players, coaches, camp instructors, parents of players etc... I now find myself having to carve out at least an hour when going to the store just because I enjoy chatting with the employees and learning more about the sport! Don't let 3-year-old-"reviews" fool you... the current staff of Sling It may be young but they sure know their stuff. We go there for all our team apparel and always send new players there to get advice for what to look for when just getting into lacrosse. I went here and spent over $150 on a brand new lacrosse stick that the rude highschooler led me to. After telling him I was playing for scorpion lacrosse and needed to make sure the stick is legal, he sells me an illegal stick. I then proceed to obtain a 3 minute non releasable penalty thanx to the dumb person who sold me the thing. What an expirience. Always check your stick and don't trust the dude.
