The original location, and the one that started it all. If you're looking for a casual sports bar with great food and plenty of beers, this is it. With J. Timothy's close by, they've got some competition in the wing department, but Sliders stands tall. The traditional wings are incredible, the boneless ones are generously-sized, and I'm really curious about the mycoprotein vegetarian wings (I'm sure Sliders nailed it). If you're not into wings, I've tried a few other things and I've never had a bad dish here. The draft list offers the usual favorites and plenty of local flavor, with a variety of cans as well. The Plainville location has a tough parking lot to navigate, especially in the snow, and then you need to find the door (it's on the opposite side of most of the parking spots). It feels a bit cramped on the inside, though the walkways and tables offer plenty of room. That being said, it's a Sliders, and it's been *the* Sliders for thirty-two years. Call it nostalgia, call it my love for anything maple, or just call it what it is...Sliders Grill & Bar is just a solid place for chicken.I was in Connecticut for a weekend visiting my family and we settled on ordering some chicken for my final lunch in the state. I used to frequent both the Plantsville and Wallingford locations when I was a resident many years ago, so I was pretty excited to see what time has done to this Connecticut chicken chain. We ended up ordering some french fries, onion rings, and pretzels to share while I ordered the maple/bacon boneless wings to eat myself. We placed out order around 11:30AM and were able to pick it up only twenty minutes later, which is pretty darn good in my book. Did it live up to my own mental hype? French Fries- Pretty standard fries, nothing to really talk about, I enjoyed them for what they were. Onion Rings- I was a big fan of these onion rings. They were the perfect consistency of kind of doughy (if this even makes sense as a description) but still tasty. Pretzels- These were okay, pretty standard bar style pretzel with plenty of salt to do the trick. Maple/Bacon Boneless Wings- I thought the flavour on the maple/bacon boneless wings were pretty good. The chicken itself was juicy and thanks to the sauce it was dipped in, and of course the small chunks of bacon, this chicken filled me up and tasted pretty good while doing it. The sound of birds tweeting is audible under the other noise - finally figured out the sound is coming from a golf game in the corner of the dinning room! No real birds are hanging around. The cheeseburger was warm and the cheese gooey. The fires had a good crisp, but take them to go and get something more unique to their menu. We just left and feel compelled to leave a review. We have eaten here before and it was always ok, not great. This time, however, the food was terrible, the service was terrible and the atmosphere was terrible. The service was slow and we awaited quite a while to order drinks even. Then when we finally got our food, we had to go find our own utensils and napkins. the food was subpar even compared to our past visits. We were also missing one entree that wasn't delivered until after we ate the rest of the food. We asked the host about the missing entree and he was completely rude and said he was just the host. We get it, but as the host it would be appropriate to deliver a message to the server for us, as she was nowhere to be found. Hate to do it because I really loved Sliders but will be needing to lower the score a bit. Since my last review we've been back a handful of times with each visit getting worse and worse. Two orders of the mac&cheese, Slider's original burger and some PB&J Chicken Sliders. All of which we've had before so I figured we were safe. Nope. The Mac & Cheese, which was the worst of it, was thrown out. Just barely warm with actual colder spots which leads me to believe this was not fresh and possibly microwaved. The description said that it had a crust of cheese fish crackers. My dinner determined that THAT was a lie. No crust at all, cold spots and off flavor. Burger was pretty plain Jane, nothing special about it. It wasn't bad it's just nothing stood out. Not even the beef was tasty which is odd because Slider's has some fantastic burgers. PB&J Sliders were a huge disappointment. Whoever prepped these forgot to add the jelly and there was barely any PB on them so what I received was little dry lumps of disappointment. I was craving these Sliders too because I loved them last time. Given that the last few times have just been MEH and this time being NOT GOOD I think I'm going to have to take a break from here. We are on a mission to eat at all the wing places in the state, but we like to get back to Sliders multiple times! We recently ate their Traditional Buffalo (of course), Buffalo Bacon Ranch (ooooo), General Tso, Kicked up Cayenne, and their Lemon Pepper Dry Rub. All were completely off the hook, but the Lemon Pepper and General Tso were "next level" good that day. Their wing menu is HUGE, so we have a lot more visiting to do. I can't give you an answer, but I know regardless I'm a paying customer! She searches for my order and appears to be in great distress. After much searching she finds a bag under "Shawn" and not "Sanh". She remarks in a rather unpleasant tone "It's under Shawn". Does she expect me to respond to that? Is it my fault I have a unique name? Should I order under the name Sasha next time? Really I wasn't bothered by that comment it was her overall "what do you want" attitude. Mind you, there wasn't a HUGE pile of take-out orders. At the moment my tiny bag of 12 wings was the ONLY order visible to me. I'm aware everyone is entitled to a bad day but if you work in customer service, when you wake up on the wrong side of the bed you better turn around and change that attitude into a positive one prior to coming to work. Disclaimer: I've only been to this spot once, but my experience was so odd/unique/uncomfortable that I feel like I should share my story for an explanation of my rating (and just because I feel like it). It was a dark and stormy night (literally), and I was in town for an event at a nearby college with a group of 6. We wanted to stop by for a quick bite and a drink somewhere before heading to the event, and we found this spot. It was just before 5pm when we got there, and we had to be at the event at 6:45, which seemed ample time for the burgers and salads we intended to eat. We ordered our drinks and food, a relatively painless experience. About 15 minutes after we ordered, the storm got stronger and a power line down the street came down, causing about 3/4 of the restaurant to lose power. Essentially the only light we had in the area we were sitting was from the TV's, other than that it was completely dark. No one came around to tell us what was going on, or if the power in the kitchen was down, but I wasn't particularly worried because it was still so early. All the wait staff congregated at the front of the restaurant and just seemed to be chatting about what was happening, still no one checked on us or any of the other guests. Eventually after about probably 20 minutes of this I flagged our waitress down (by literally standing up and waving to her from across the space) and she told us the kitchen was fine and our food should be out soon. Another 15 minutes later, we got our food at around 6, the power still almost completely out, and the only light we have to see/eat our food with is the TV which makes it very hard to eat our meals. Once we were done eating, I again flagged the waitress over to tell her we needed to pay, it was around 6:25 and we had about a 15 minute drive, so we gave her the card and she went to check us out. As if our luck wasn't bad enough already, in the exact moment that she was getting ready to swipe the card, the power in the remainder of the restaurant went out and the credit card system was down. She immediately rushed away, and I had to follow her to let her know that we had an event to get to, and asked if there was anything we could do. She grabbed her manager, and I again explained to him that we had an event to go to, not enough cash on us to cover the bill, and that this was obviously an uncomfortable situation to be in. I proceeded to offer to leave a set of car keys with him as collateral and a promise that we would return in a few hours after our event, and we would bring cash incase the machine was still down, because we had extra cars and could leave one behind. He proceeded to tell me that he could not do that and that he had spoken to his regional manager and they had directed him to take down the credit card numbers of the customers to be charged later when the power was back. Now Im not aware of what the rules are in CT, but regardless of that I don't know that anyone in their right mind would write down their credit card information and just leave it....and for a restaurant to request that is absolutely ridiculous!! After a bit of back and forth with the manager where I let him know that I was not at all comfortable in doing so, one of my friends remembered she had her checkbook with her in her car, so she grabbed a check and we could finally leave, now a little bit late for our event. Heres my problem with what happened...Obviously this was an unfortunate situation for everyone involved, theres nothing you can do when a power line goes out to make it come back and I am fully aware of that, however the way that the staff handled the whole situation was horrible. No one ever gave us any information on what was happening, our waitress seemed to be trying to avoid us and any questions we had, and the manager was ridiculous in requesting we write down our credit card info and just hand it to him to keep, not to mention he was notably rude to me when doing so. I would also like to note that no amount was ever taken off our bill even though we had to sit in the dark for almost our entire experience there, and although I am fully aware that it was not the restaurants fault that this happened, it was their fault that the entire situation was so poorly managed. The unfortunate thing is that Im certain that had the power not gone out that night, our experience here would have been absolutely fine, which is why I am giving two stars instead of one. I usually always order from here on door dash occasionally, I always order the mac &pork that comes with onion rings on top and have never been disappointed except for last night. I am pregnant and last night I was so excited to order it because its been one of my biggest cravings. It took about 40 minutes to get here and when It got here I'm not sure if its because I ordered it late but there was one layer of mac & cheese that looked like they just scraped the bottom of the pot and put enough to fill each corner but even with one scoop on each side there was no more mac just pure container. I think the waitresses need to be more mindful when the food is done and to get it out at a timely matter no one goes out to eat Luke warm/ cold food .
