I had NO Idea that you can even go into Sleeping Beauty's Castle until very recently and I've been a regular Disney goer since around 2018. I guess I just never examined the castle that closely or because of the crowds around it taking photos, I usually just dash right pass by. I have accidentally wandered into the handicap accessible room with the three seat throne, storybook video display of the same story upstairs, and the display of jewels and royal items that befit a medieval castle once, but it wasn't until months later that I walked up the stairs to see the actual display. You can see the scenes play out for Sleeping Beauty's story. It's iconic. You see the roses, her with the forest animals and fairies, the spool and thread, everyone falling asleep, the battle with Maleficent. It's neat how they used lighting, layering of the displays and such for everything to be portrayed. It can get a bit crowded in there and there's a tripping hazard because of stairs and running children, but otherwise, definitely worth a stop! read more

The Sleepy Beauty Castle at Disneyland was inspired by Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany and is 77 feet tall. I was watching the "Behind the Attraction" documentary on Disney+ about the history of the park castles and learned they used a forced perspective technique to make this particular castle look bigger. The upper level was empty when Disneyland opened in 1955 and Walt Disney wanted an attraction built for that space. So this Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough was created a couple years later and opened in 1957. At the Sleepy Beauty Walkthrough, you walk through the upper part of the castle and view several dioramas from the "Sleeping Beauty" movie. The song "When You Wish Upon a Star" plays in the background. It doesn't take long to walk through this attraction and it is a nice tribute to one of Disney's longtime classic animated movies. I am so happy to see the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough is back! As a kid, I loved this walkthrough and watching the dioramas with the dolls and puppets, and was really sad when it closed in 2001. It wasn't until I came back to Disneyland an adult many years after its reopening in 2008 that I got to enjoy walking through the castle again. The art is absolutely gorgeous, and I love walking through the halls and feel mesmerized by the beautiful art and updated technology. It is such a beautiful and nostalgic attraction that harkens back to the olden days of Disney. The castle itself is definitely among one of the most beautiful. Sleeping Beauty castle is the most photographed icon in Disneyland and people wait a good while to get photo pass photographers to take pictures as well as their "magic shots." Sometimes it's easier to get someone to snap your picture and you can repay them the favor. The castle is not real big however, it conveys the lovelyness of the fairy tale as shown. Celebrating the 100th anniversary, the castle is decked out to commerate that. At nighttime projections are placed on the castle in as part of the fireworks show. It can get very crowded to see those however, if you are just looking to see the fireworks then there are other places you can go. The Magic Kingdom counterpart: Equal. The Cinderella castle is much bigger however they used "forced perspective" to make it appear that way. Last time I visited it, I noticed you could not walk through the castle from the front as Mickey and friends perform periodic shows in the castle forecourt. You can however, enter through the back and see some of the murals of the Cinderella story within the partially opened walkway. The Cinderella castle is also home to one of the most sought after character meals inside which is called "Cinderella's royal table." As you exit into Fantasyland you will see the Cinderella fountain. Disneyland keeps the simplistic charm of still being able to walk through the castle and gives you the feeling of royalty. Both castles are used in their nightly shows and are adorned for whatever season or anniversary that they are celebrating. After all it is a place where in your mind "dreams really do come true!" Be mindful there are a lot of stairs throughout as you go deeper into the castle and the story. I love that some of the stories have sound and animation as it makes you feel like you are immersed in the story. It's even gorgeous now versus 10 years ago with the major face lift it got recently. At night, the projections on the castle during the 100 Years Disney Fireworks Show take this castle to another level! You can take your own photo here or you'll find Disney photographers waiting to take the best photos of you and your friends and family in the center. If you're facing the castle, I'd recommend standing in front of or sitting on the bench to the left of the castle just before you turn onto the the walkway that goes through the castle. You get a great photo of you in front of the castle without having to wait in a long line to take your photo in the center. read more

You'll be walking up and down a couple flight of stairs while reading and getting a course refresher on the story of Sleeping Beauty, hehe! Hopefully, before you go through this attraction, you'll be able to take your photo ops in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Funny, I always thought it Cinderella's Castle, heheh, whoops, nevermind! The Castle itself is gorgeous overall - both daytime and nighttime. Of course, if you're lucky, you can catch the 9 p.m. fireworks. Is there ANY way to get away from the crowds in the Mouse Kingdom??? Yes. Find the hidden doorway in back of Sleeping Beauty Castle, on the right side, and climb those stairs. "Castle Walkthrough" doesn't mean walking through the castle to Fantasyland, it means the hidden rooms upstairs. The Sleeping Beauty diorama is a quiet, artistic triumph. In the 2000s, Disney brought back the original that had been used in 1955. Without much fanfare or hoopla, which they should have done. The diorama tells the story that you'll see in the movie. But just as the plot of a Marx Brothers movie is there only to given an excuse for the Brothers' antics, the storyline only gives an excuse to see Eyvind Earle's style that's unique for Disney, in three dimensions and with special-effects lighting. It's not exciting like Space Mountain, nor cute like Small World. Instead, it extracts either a "wow" or studied attention to its detail. The Tchaikovsky score plays in the background. Most people don't even know you can do this... or have forgotten over time (like I did) that you can enter the small doors and travel through the story of Sleeping Beauty while actually inside of her castle! It is a place to kind of regroup, unwind and cool off as you make your way up and down through the dark staircases of the castle. Take your time in here, go at your own pace. Be mindful that others want to peep through the windows, however. Also, the staircases are really very dark so hold the handrails and be careful. From sweet baby Princess Aurora and her doting fairies thru the curse of Maleficent and on to the long-awaited kiss by Prince Phillip, you see it all unfold through the pages of the book and the windows of the castle. It is so nicely done and very clever.... all the way down to your final steps out of the castle where you can see Maleficent's shadow about to reach out and grab you too.... beware! My daughter enjoys walking through this castle and seeing the story unfold about Sleeping Beauty, even though we have never watched the movie or read the story together. I don't care too much for the narrow walkways and staircases. Many times you have families behind you practicallly stepping on you forcing you to move through the castle quicker than you'd like. A lot of the time I end up picking up my toddler and carrying her on the many staircases so her little steps don't hold the crowd behind us with pushy, anxious kids up. It ends up being an exhausting tour for Mommy that way. Otherwise the outside of the castle is beautiful, especially at night during the Christmas holiday season. It is also the main focal point of their amazing fireworks show as everyone awaits Tinkerbell's famous flight. It does amaze me how I thought that the castle was enormous when coming here as a little girl, and how it seems to have shrank as I grew older. It is still the main focal point of Disneyland and I still very much appreciate it's history and beauty. So I give it 3 stars for the walking tour and 4 stars for it's history and beauty! read more

It's THE number one landmark in the Disneyland Park. We saw a million people taking pictures and selfies in front of this castle, creating a huge traffic around the area. The walkthrough itself to me was just ok although I really enjoyed all the scenes within the castle. Every single art was 100% the original movie quality. And the castle was intentionally made dark inside giving you the almost real feel that you were in a real one. Again, it was probably not the most thrilling or exhilarating, but it was the number one landmark in the park, so I highly recommend you check it out at least once. The walkthrough didn't take long to finish, depending upon how long you wanted to spend your time at each scene, it could be as fast as 5 mins or as long as you want. Also, don't forget to stay around till the dark to see the whole castle light up in a soothing purple color. It was gorgeous. read more

There is nothing more iconic at Disneyland than the castle. It is what all roads at the park lead to and the main thing you notice when you walk down Main Street. Most people do not realize that the walk-through portion of the castle was closed for almost a decade. They just recently reopened the walk-through...and I am SO happy they did. During the time it was closed it was hard for me to remember what exactly you did when you walked through the castle...the last time I had walked through it I was as a very small kid. During the period when Disney was not sure if they would ever reopen it I worried that the little I did remember from my childhood would one day be a distant memory and now I do not have to worry about that. The attraction itself involves lots of steps and lots of story elements from Sleeping Beauty. It is the perfect place to bring the little ones and introduce them to the story for the first time or bring someone who is an absolute Disney nut..you really can not go wrong. They also have a separate room where you can go if you are in a wheelchair or are unable to climb stairs. You get to experience the same thing you would walking but through a very nice video in a themed room. Next time you are in Disneyland you do the walk-through of the castle and you tell me that you do not come out the other side in Fantasyland feeling like you are 5 years old again. This is for all of those children and adults who've ever wanted to sneak a peek inside of The Magic Castle! I've always passed by this location but never knew that you could actually go inside of the castle. Throughout your journey, you will see books encased in glass that narrate the sequence of events for Sleeping Beauty. As you read the story, you'll see images behind the glass to further illustrate what you just read. The images are dark in nature which gives off that creepy vibe! I love this feeling because as the intensity builds, someone special is waiting for you upon your exit! Anyway, look carefully at the glass because the holograms are ever so changing. You'll see the progression from one scene to the next if you don't rush through this attraction. There is a door in which you will see the sharp blade that rests atop a guard's sword. He paces back and forth to ensure that no one escapes his capture! As you exit the castle, don't be startled as you see Maleficent's shadow lurking in the distance and suddenly coming close to you. She won't hurt you! Come on, we know who her main target is/was so we shall live to ride all of the other attractions at Disneyland and to indulge in all of their tasty treats! Don't skip this attraction if the door is ajar! Additionally, if you or others are unfamiliar with Sleeping Beauty, you can receive a quick synopsis of the story as you read all of the books inside of the castle and appreciate the displays behind the glass. read more
