Their style blends the past and present and is inspired by the rustic yet elegant villas of the French countryside and the clean and down-to-earth feel of the American farmhouse style. By its beautiful showroom you would think it's prices are very expensive, but they are not. They are reasonable and comparable to Pier 1. They carry high quality, beautiful, and very unique items, like vases, watering cans, and framed prints. Many items that would make wonderful gifts. Their products are hand-selected and blend the past and present. The French Farmhouse also sells unique products, including handmade items by small business makers and European antiques. A visit to this elegant store, which opened in 2021 and is locally owned by Ashly Lawson, a Franklin County native, is a very enjoying experience. When I visited the store last week I was greeted by a very friendly elegant lady, who was very cordial and answered all my questions about the store and its products and unique gifts. I highly recommend that whenever you're in Downtown, Roanoke, you go visit the store. You will enjoy the visit, and maybe discover one of those home decoration items of your dreams.

Sooooooo cute!…read more I've been following this shop on Instagram for a while but haven't been able to come inside just yet bc they were closed during my last time in town. I love the location - right beside the newly opened and renovated Firehouse 1 building. These two cute spaces compliment each other well and with the beautiful hand-made TXTUR store next door - you can really get some beautiful decor and home goods between the two. This shop is small - but packed with beautiful items that fit the name - French shabby chic farmhouse. I saw a ton of things I'd love to buy. Candles, dinnerware, candlesticks, salt and pepper shakers and wells, t-shirts, a little jewelry, pillows, seasonal decor, etc. The gal behind the counter was very friendly and they have a website and sell gift cards. I found some CUTE fall pumpkin and halloween items to die for inside as well as a honey well and a cute small stoneware jewelry dish. Highly, highly recommend you stop in if you at all love French shabby chic! (Note - the space upstairs is also an event venue)

Entering the store was like discovering a whole new world filled with a curated selection of unique furniture, home decor, gifts, and local art, emphasizing quality, sustainable design, and truly unique pieces with lasting style. After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Present Thyme, in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. Located in the Towers Shopping Center, in Southwest Roanoke, Present Thyme has been a community staple for over 45 years, yet it was only today that I became aware of its existence. Inside, I found an extensive variety of unique, one-of-a-kind items, from antique furniture in excellent condition, to quality gifts and luxury bedding, to amazing treasures from local artisans. The store philosophy is to focus on high-quality, high-end, timeless pieces that become part of a home's story, with a commitment to local artisans and sustainable design. There, one can find high-end, unique furniture, including antique pieces, elegant home decor items, including vintage European crystal chandeliers, Venetian glass mirrors, handblown glass bowls, and collectibles serving trays, among other things such as clothing that blend clasic style with modern flair, bedding, gifts and children's items. And what fascinated me the most was the local art and artworks, including pieces from local artists such as Greg Osterhaus, which I found the most extensive paintings from him anywhere around, including his famous cow portraits and local landscapes. The owner of this store, Dorian Clowers, does an extraordinary job in bringing together products from artisans in Roanoke and the surrounding region. If you think the products of this store are amazing, its staff are the most friendly and helpful store employees that I have ever encountered. They helped me find more information and price of one of Greg Osterhaus paintings that I showed interest in. The time in there went by so fast that before I knew it, it was already closing time. I highly recommend this high-end home decor store for those times when you're looking for a very unique gift for someone special in your life, or just to bring into your home as a stand out piece.

It is a fine arts gallery and boutique that always is on the lookout for the finest quality and selection of original paintings, sculptures, art glass, jewelry, and specialty gifts by local and regional artists. Since I moved to Roanoke, I have always been very impressed by the quality of works they carry. The gallery has two large well lit display windows up front and is located in a prime location downtown. People going to or coming from restaurants in the area or other places like the Mill Mountain Theatre oftentimes pass by it on the way to their destination and are amazed by the artworks they see in the windows, just like I am. When I went to visit the gallery this Wednesday afternoon, a very friendly and knowledgeable lady greeted and welcomed me and explained to me the story of how they were able to get this key location to move their gallery to. I told her how important art has always been in my life and in the lives of many in our community. This is an ideal place for local and regional artists to introduce their artwork. They can do so by making an appointment to introduce themselves to the Art Gallery Manager and showing their portfolio and some of their artworks. It is also a wonderful place for members of our community and visitors passing y to acquire beautiful artworks to decorate their homes or to expand their art collection. I remember the joy it gave me when, while living in Boston, I visited an Art Gallery and acquired my most valuable painting by the American Artist who also lived in Paris, Mary K. Trotter. I highly recommend this Gallery to all living in or visiting Roanoke. Stop by and view the artwork they have at the moment. Enjoy doing so and who knows, you might find that special piece of art that you can take home with you and that will bring you joy throughout the years as well as all those who visit and admire it.

And one day, for one reason or another, one desides to stop and go inside. This precisely is what happened to me with Artsy June. One day I was walking along the sidewalk of Market Street in Downtown Roanoke. I saw this interesting little store front. Read this verse that was written on a standing blackboard: "People will throw stones at you. Don't throw them back. Collect them all and build an empire." After reading this my curiosity kicked in and I proceeded to enter the store. The first thing I saw was a restored and renovated jukebox playing songs in the background. Then after looking around I deduced that this was a very special Gift Shop, that sold all kinds of artistic and very creative gifts, as well as Second Hand Vintage Clothing and Items at very reasonable prices. Among the items they had for sale, they had original miniature watercolor paintings signed by the local artist, small signs with inspirational sayings, some original and very creative pottery, souvenirs of Roanoke, an antique typewriter, nice wooden objects such as Chest boards, coffee mugs with saying on them, glass items, home decoration items, cushsions, some furniture, umbrellas, and second hand vintage clothes and items. What also was interesting about the store was that the dressing room was made in the inside of what once was a refrigerator room. A young lady employee greeted and welcomed me and explained all about the shop to me. She was also the artist of the miniature watercolor paintings. What a great little local shop. Just browsing all the items there was a delight. I would highly recommend those reading this review accompanied by my photographs to definitely go visit. And those artistic inclined individuals who might have they would like to sell to take them for the owner to see. Maybe she could include them among the store stock. Who knows, this could be the beginning of your artistic career!
