One of the most beautiful store in Downtown Roanoke and with the greatest variety of merchandise is The Mast General Store. Located in the corner of S. Jefferson Street and Church Avenue this store provides friendly service, and a great selection of quality products at fair prices, and often offer sales to make it easier for customers to obtain their desired item at an affordable price. There is something for everyone at the Mast General Store: a great selection of preserves, butters, jams, jellies, clothing, footwear, outdoor gear, candies, old-time favorites, and the latest styles and products of over 600 brands. Great store-it feels like a walk into the past! Good selection of many unique items including outdoor, casual clothes!

Ohhhhh - what a gem! My mom told me I'd love this store and she was right, I definitely did! We browsed for about an hour - it's very large and full of goodies for outdoors, ladies clothing, and had a ton of seasonal items on sale as they prep for winter. There is an upstairs with even more supplies and a shoe section with tons of Chacos, On, Hoka and other name-brand shoes. A small home section boasted cute decorative kitchen items and towels and things. I saw some beautiful hats inside. Staff were all super friendly and helpful. Parking is street or a nearby garage - it's pay parking during the week 8-5pm and free nights and weekends. Highly recommend if you're at all into outdoor gear or looking for something specific - they probably have it here. Note: they have a few locations throughout VA and NC and so if you find something here but not in your size or color - ask the staff to see if they have it at another store and they can have it shipped to you. read more

Bottom Line: A large general store with an emphasis on casual outdoorsy clothing for men and women. I love Mast General Stores so I was very excited to learn one recently opened in Roanoke when planning a trip to the area. Mast General Store is reliable for friendly staff, quality men's and women's clothing, lovely displays and their candy barrel. I would estimate that at least 50% of the store is men's and women's clothing geared towards an active and outdoor lifestyle. They sell brands like North Face, Toad&Co, Patagonia and Columbia. They also have quality footwear from brands like Keen and Brooks. Regarding the candy barrel, I'm not actually sure that is what Mast calls it but that is how I refer to the section of the store filled with bulk candy in barrels. Mast is pet friendly but they do ask that you refrain from bringing your dogs in the candy barrel. True to the roots of a general store, Mast General Store sells a little bit of everything. Here are some of the things I enjoyed checking out on first trip to the new Roanoke Mast General Store: - Farm-to-Feet and Darn Tough socks - Lodge cast iron pans - Patagonia down filled coats - Yeti coolers - Burt's Bees lip glosses - Moon Pies and other nostalgic snacks - Acorn slippers - Mast logo tees - Fiestaware dishes - Cozy PJs - Kids toys from brands like Melissa and Doug - Christmas ornaments and decor They also have a lot of camping and outdoor gear but I didn't explore that section. I visited Mast during COVID and they provide hand sanitizer at the door and require guests to wear masks. All employees were wearing masks. They ask that you wear gloves if you plan to select bulk candy from the barrels. The store is located on the corner of Jefferson and Church. There is a parking lot conveniently across the street but I'm not sure about the rates. This is the 11th Mast General Store and the first in Virginia. Overall a great experience and a must-visit place in Roanoke! read more

I stopped in here to grab a few local souvenirs and was pleased to see they had a great selection. Clothing, home decor, outdoor gear, dog treats... fresh popcorn! There's something for everyone. To my luck there was also a giant sale going on so I was able to pick up more than I needed. But who can resist nearly 50% off the original sticker price on quality gear? Not me. Summer is right around the corner and this little trip to Mast got me everything we'll need to hit the trails. Give yourself some extra time to look around in here, there are hidden goodies everywhere. And you will stumble upon a few sale's hidden around the store. The staff were very helpful. They even had a treat for my pup which always adds bonus points in our book. And a great job at COVID safety! Parking might be a little rough but you should expect that when downtown anywhere. Wonderful selection of merchandise! Everything imaginable, from hard to find cookies to clothes to super cute items for the home! The staff is amazing!! Among other items, today I purchased an artificial flower arrangement in a small pitcher! The gentleman at checkout was so concerned about wrapping it up well for me! It was amazing!! He truly cared. and it's so showed!! I don't live in Roanoke, so I'm so happy I got to visit the store today!! And I will definitely be back again when I'm in the area!!! read more

A great store with a wide variety of items offered! I came in for fun just to look around before grabbing dinner and ended up leaving with a hodgepodge of different items that I had no intention of grabbing. I was enthralled by their sauce and jam selection. I'm also a sucker for mugs so you know I had to grab one of those on my way out too. This store is outstanding. The mix of products is large, diverse and unexpected. If you find a store like this you will have to pay a premium for the goods they offer. Not so with Mast, the item I purchased retailed at the same price as the online costs for the same product. The service was excellent and the store is a throwback to the past updated to today (which is a hard thing to do). We went in around closing and I could have spent more time in the store.
