Have always found it a challenge picking the best bed in a short period of time. Rarely does price factor into the equation and with the explosion of brands, both brick/mortar and online it has become even harder to choose a good product that I'll be on for a third of the time and will last for years. Recently spent a few hours at Sleep Haven with my wife looking for a pressure relieving king mattress and adjustable base. There were many mattresses of all types to try, overwhelming to say the least. Then came Mac, the owner to the rescue. He is, in my opinion a mattress guru. He seemed to understand what we were looking for and showed his vast knowledge of brands, manufacturers, and the pluses and minuses of each type of mattress. I'm not going to bore you with the details of each type of mattress and base, but we discussed them all and after trying out many decided on one and a base. After ordering came delivery, setup, and take away. Almost everyone has outsourced delivery and setup to third party logistics companies. To say the least we have had mixed experiences with these over the past several years. Sleep Haven has kept delivery and setup in-house. The experience was great. Due to our schedule it ended up being done in the evening. And who showed up? Mac with one of his most experienced drivers! To accommodate our schedule he came from San Mateo to West San Jose and delivered and set up our new bed as well as removing our old, heavy Sleep Number bed and articulated frame. Could not have been a better experience. If you need a bed I suggest visiting Sleep Haven. Also suggest giving yourself a good chunk of time to make your decision. read more

I purchased a mattress through Sleep Haven Bedding and had a good sales experience. Ali allowed me to try a variety of mattresses, and was not pushy at all. My mattress was in stock and it was delivered in only a day or two. The delivery guys were punctual and polite. 1 star off: The only thing I wished this store had was a sleep trial option. It's great that one can try the different mattresses in the store, but it is still not like having a full night of rest on it. For example, after sleeping on my new mattress for couple days, I felt like it was firmer than I am used to when I turn to my side during sleep. I felt like the whole experience from stepping into the store and being greeted to the mattress delivery was great. I was greeted by Ali who was very professional. He really knew his product. He was able to answer all my questions and give me advice if I asked for it. After I left, I went to a couple of other places to compare...but decided on Sleep Haven since they had the best quality and best prices. The purchasing process went smoothly. The men who delivered the mattresses were also very professional. They made sure to wear their masks and booties so they would not dirty the carpets. I really recommend this place. This is an update to my initial review: I just received a phone call from "Kenny," who accused me of lying regarding my initial review, instead of attempting to rectify the issue. Not only did he insist I go into detail regarding my experience while I was busy at work, but also accused me of lying. Kenny then went on to say that if I do not take down my review within 24 hrs., he would "call the authorities" on me. Wow. For writing an honest review???? This just goes to show how they do business. By threatening their customers. I have the voicemail to prove it. We have been looking for a mattress and bedroom furniture for a long time. We entered Ali's store not knowing what we really want and left with a full set of bed, very comfortable Mattress that everyone in the family, mostly our cats, love to rest on. Good looking sturdy furniture. The service was good and helpful. The first 2 deliveries had some scratches on the wood so they took them back. Spend time assembling the bed. No hidden prices. I had a great experience here. The salesman who helped me (John I believe his name was, a tall, Irish man) was super nice and just a fountain of information. He didn't rush me, he answered all my questions, he didn't make me feel guilty for wanting to shop around a bit, this guy should give classes on how to be a good salesman. This place also easily had the largest selection of mattresses of any of the places I visited, and John was able to speak authoritatively on the differences between the models and brands. I also got an education as to why different kinds of mattresses are good for different kinds of sleepers, which was interesting. I also really appreciated the fact that he was super clear about their pricing structure, return policy (they don't do the try it and return it if you don't like it thing), warranties, financing and delivery process. It's nice when you don't have to feel like a company is trying to take you for a ride or hide the true cost of a thing. On delivery day they called before they showed up, as promised, and were even towards the front of the two hour delivery window that I was given. The guys were quick and efficient with the setup and take away and in no time at all I had a new bed! I have to say, I've slept better in the week or so I've had this bed than I have in a long time. I had a good experience here recently. I went to one of the chains down the road (Sleep Train) and saw a Sealy Posturepedic that was on sale at $300 off for $2300. Next I went to Sleep Haven Bedding and tried to comparison shop. The salesmen Mac and Ray were perfectly nice, seemed straightforward and low pressure. They told me they have stopped carrying Sealy Posturepedic because the quality is poor. Instead they showed me a number of other mattresses, ending in a Serta Iseries that I liked better. The Serta cost $2100 at regular price, not on sale. I checked the internet and it was true, the Sealy Posturepedic was reviewed poorly and the Serta had much better reviews. Try the "sleep like the dead" website for some ratings. In the end they saved me $200 (would have been $500 if the Sealy were not on sale) and I think I got a better mattress. Some people here have not liked the salesmen. They are middle eastern and this is a family business. Diversity is one of the things that makes the bay area a great place to live, but this can lead to cultural misunderstandings. read more

I would highly recommend Sleep Haven Bedding. We purchased a bed from them @ 8 years ago. Through no fault of Sleep Haven, our mattress developed a sag. Benny was immediately responsive and helped walk us through the warranty process. They were great at helping us get a full warranty coverage for the issues. We now have a new mattress set from Sleep Haven. The delivery people were professional, kind, courteous and super helpful. At all points in our journey, the staff at Sleep Haven were knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. If you are looking for any type of mattress, definitely come to Sleep Haven. The "other big box" places don't have the quality that Sleep Haven has. We had bought a mattress from one of the "big box" places in the past and had to replace it within 2 years due to the inferior quality. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING HERE! Ali (think he is the owner) is dishonest, disrespectful and a fast-talker...no integrity and no customer-service skills. He got the easiest $1500 sale, over the phone-15 minutes, from me (simply purchased a queen size of a king bed I once owned). It went downhill from there. The frame/rail they delivered didn't fit my head/foot board. When I called to ask for the correct one, he said sure, for another $50 delivery fee! I was tempted to dismantle it and bring it back myself to save the $50, but I just felt my time was more valuable. So I gave in and agreed to a second delivery fee, only after he explicitly told me that would be my only charge. The second delivery came, rails didn't fit, I had to wait for a third deliver guy to show up, still the rails didn't fit AND they damaged the corners of the box spring. When it was time for them to go, they gave me a bill for the $50 delivery fee PLUS another $49 for the replacement rail. This was contrary to what Alli told me on the phone the night prior. After a lot of fast talking he arbitrarily "does me a favor" and drops it to $35. Thanks ALOT. They call the next day and say they can't order the rails at all. We'd be happy to bring you back the original rails, which DON'T work with my headboard. Now why would I want to stay home from work AGAIN to meet you to get the wrong rails? In the end, I've paid two delivery fees and double the originally-negotiated price of the rails and they didn't supply me the ability to attach my headboard and foot board. Alli was rude, condescending and talked to me like I was an idiot and a criminal. POOR POOR customer service. Too many other reputable establishments one can do business with....like Mancini Bedding, who, BTW, provided me a solution to my issue with kindness, respect, high customer service and only $21! I'm not sure what the negative reviewers were smoking, because Ali was the best. I was a bit overwhelmed with the selection, but told him my criteria (firm, no fire retardant sprays, preferably an Englander) and he pointed me to 5 mattresses to choose from, then kindly left me alone to try them. When I peppered him with questions, he answered knowledgeably and concisely. The biggest selling point of the store is that there aren't any sales or pushy, commissioned salesmen. His prices are his prices, take them or leave them. They are fair, and since we needed a mattress ASAP, it took a lot of pressure off knowing we didn't need to wait for an after Christmas sale to get the best price. I've bought several beds here in the last few years and after my experience this last weekend, I wanted to give a shout out to Ali for all the help he gave us. I needed a mattress that day and while I was finishing up the paperwork, he actually snuck outside to the parking lot and put it on top of our car for us. One thing I dislike is a business that does a sloppy job in follow-through. I was promised a bed on a Thursday and I would have a 20 minute notice (like if I worked any where further than a 20 min drive, that's unreasonable.) Thursday morning I called to confirm, Ali said he would check on my delivery and call me back. I waited 2 hours and called again. Ali said he would look into it again and call. Instead of Ali calling me back, a guy from their store in Redwood City called me telling me that the delivery would be on Friday. I told him that was unacceptable, that I was promised it would be on Thursday (it was barely 2 pm!) and he proceeds to tell me the delivery time is nowhere notated on the receipt. In trying to get them to find a way to deliver it, since they had my merchandise, it was not going to happen. Ali and I spoke after this phone call and he did the shuck and jive dance, weaseling his way out by saying Friday, narrowing the time to between 2 & 4 pm, again with a 20 minute notice. Come Friday at 2:45, Ali calls and tells me the truck has left and would be at my place in 10 minutes. Ten minutes!! I work across the street from Sleep Haven - if they've already left, that means I'm already late! I live across the street from 3 schools and I can't rush my drive there! So, I'm driving home and get a call (Bluetooth, hands free) from the delivery guys wondering where I am! Again, I say that I was not given 20 minutes notice and they proceed to say - No where does it say that you were going to get 20 minutes notice and that I should be there! WTF kind of BS is that!? Worse - as I pull up to my building, there's a truck - not a delivery truck, but a regular truck, with my bed not protected with a tarp - did I mention it's starting to rain?? I specifically thought I could trust this small business but their word means nothing. Apparently even here, get it in writing cuz even small businesses don't abide on a handshake and their word. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS STORE! During our conversation with the representative in the San Mateo store, we were misled and received incorrect information about the composition of the mattress we purchased. When the mattress we received started to soften and body impressions of more than 1/2" started to appear within 3 months of use, we started to ask questions. We confirmed by phone with the sales representative that the mattress was manufactured with the materials indicated in the original conversation. Following up on additional information given by the manufacturer, our research uncovered that the mattress was different from what we were told. Additionally, the label on the mattress is not consistent with the marketing materials in the store. Trying to work with the store and manufacturer led to no results and we are stuck with a cheaply-produced mattress for the price of an expensive latex mattress. I prefer to support small local businesses on Yelp, but in the case of Sleep Haven Bedding, I find it necessary to warn of this store's dishonest practices. You will pleasantly hear that they care about their customers, but actions speak louder than words. Buyer beware! read more

Super Bowl Sunday my boyfriend and I found ourselves with some time to kill before a friend's party and saw Sleep Haven and said: "Aw, what the Hell". We walked in and weren't descended on by vultures but instead politely greeted by a laid back Irishman who made sure we knew he was there for us but wanted us to test and talk amongst ourselves before we were ready for the QandA. We purchased an adjustable base here and my experience was just ok. I came in closer to closing time and did feel a little pressure to make the purchase. What I didn't expect was their no cancellation no return policy. Wow even if the item was not delivered you cannot change you mind. I looked at my receipt and the important details for the item was not properly noted. I call the next day to make sure the item that was going to be delivered is what I was promised. I call and they confirm which is good but if there is no cancellation no return the details such as model number correct item name should be on the receipt so there are no questions. I'm not sure if the salesman felt too comfortable with me but he was too blunt with his thoughts and comments, even belittling with comments because I wanted to double check things and because I was comparing prices with other sellers. I entered the store and told them about my budget and the store owner recommended me a mattress easily which ended up being the mattress I am enjoying right now! I was not satisfied with my first purchase and was able to choose another one that better fit my sleeping needs. I called at 5pm having just moved to the area that day and Michael (who is amazing) said that no matter what, if I found a mattress that I liked he would be able to deliver that evening. I had spoken to a few other mattress stores and none of them had offered anything close to that! So I went to the store and they have a huge selection of mattresses, and I tried them out. Michael was informative and helpful but not pushy, which I really appreciated. I found one that I loved and asked if it was available to ship. It was, but only from the redwood store. So, Michael went really out of his way to guarantee that we had a mattress that night and delivered it at 930pm just to ensure we weren't sleeping on the floor! Don't shop at this mattress store and don't buy from this store! The person that sits inside the store is an older man in his 60s and look either Egyptian or middle eastern. He is the rudest man ever!! He is probably the owner of this store. I went in to look at mattress last weekend. When I walked in he said hello, and then disappeared for 2 minutes. He then showed up again and approached me and asked if I am looking for a mattress. I told him yes, I am looking. I then asked him if he has anything to cover the pillow and part of the mattress for me to lie down on, something like what they have at Sleep Train Mattress. He looked at me partially pissed and asked me if I was concerned about my head. I told him I was concerned about everywhere, not just my head. He then said these exact words to me, "You are crazy! I am not going to sell you anything! Leave my store! You need to see a doctor!" I felt insulted and left the store. As I was walking out the store he continued to say, "Everyone just lie down......." Can you imagine anyone saying these awful things to you? Would you ever tell your potential customers that they are crazy and that you won't sell them anything, and tell them to leave. And the only thing I asked him was if he had anything to cover a bit of the mattress for me to try them on. I told several people about this and everyone said what I asked was very reasonable. I even went to Sleep Train Mattress afterwards and they showed me they had disposable tissue paper that is half the size of my body to cover the mattress when I lie down and try them out. This man is an absolute jerk, and is absolutely unprofessional. Please don't shop there. You will get the same treatment and experience I got. read more

We really regret buying a mattress from this store. They guy, whose name was Ollie, who helped us seemed really nice and helpful when we were at the store. He told us they would help us set up the bed and take the old ones away without charges. He also said they would give us sliders to put underneath the bed to prevent scratches on the hardwood floor. The day they delivered the mattress, the delivery guy said to my husband he wasn't told about a flight of 6 steps we had in our house, and called the store immediately. He eventually reluctantly brought in the mattress and set up the bed, then reluctantly move the old mattress to our other bedroom as we requested. Since he didn't bring the sliders, my husband went back to the store the following Monday to ask Ollie for them. He had a friend at the store with him, and he told my husband he didn't want my husband in the store. He was a completely different person. They also had a No Return policy. One of the most DISHONEST and UNETHICAL places I have ever shopped at. They told me I had 90 days to try out a mattress and that I could exchange it if I was not pleased. Well I was not pleased with the first mattress I received and when I went to exchange the mattress they told me all sales were final. The owner was extremely rude when I tried to explain the situation and would do nothing to help us.
