The pick went smoothly and I received good help getting them loaded. But these were knock down pieces and they needed to be assembled. Unfortunately, a recent visit left them feeling unwelcome due to a sales rep's rude and condescending behavior. The female associate spoke to my parents in Cantonese and said, "You're here again? What else are you looking for?" when they told her they were just browsing. The tone was dismissive, condescending, and made my parents feel like an inconvenience rather than valued customers. This is a very late review. Terrible quality! I bought 3 bar stools/chairs about 5 years ago, the Bastian counter stools, and after just 2 years, it started falling apart. The seams on the fake leather opened up on one side, then after a few months, the other side of the chair also fell apart. This happened on all 3 chairs ! I called them after the 2 years to complain, but they would not give me a refund or replace them. I will never buy any 'leatherette 'chair from them again ! Very poor quality! Customer service is terrible! We bought outdoor furniture last year, and have seen some weird damage to the upholstery on the cushions. During the wet winter we even made sure to take the cushions and store them in our garage. My issue is that when I followed up and complained to the store (a couple of times), and sent them pictures, both times I was assured that a manager would follow up. I am still to hear back from the manager. Sounds like they are keen to sell the product, but do not want anything to do with you post sale. read more

I had a comfortable shopping experience here and am happy about the furniture we're in the process of buying from Scandinavian Designs! Compared to big box stores in the value sector like Living Spaces and Ashley HomeStore, the sales reps here are laid back and don't helicopter you to death. Instead, everyone we talked to here was very warm and helpful without being overbearing. That put me in the right state of mind to slump into sofas and chairs galore, admiring the designs instead of running away from anyone. The finishes and materials on the pieces here are on par with Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel, but the prices seem to be much, much cheaper. They have a good range going from spaceship-looking modern furniture, to the millennial basics (grey chaise sectional, clean lines, life top table etc,) and show rooms straight up ripped from a timewarp to 1960 (going ALL in on the MCM look.) I wish their sale covered a wider selection of their assortment, but I guess this gives me a good reason to follow them online for the right time to strike on some pieces that looked amazing in store. I bought my first big-purchase couch from here ~2 years, it's sleek, modern, super comfortable, and holding up like a champ. I can't foresee any reason I'd get rid of this couch in the next 20 years unless there's an unforeseen dog incident. The customer service here was TOP notch. I felt no pressure to purchase anything and enjoyed walking around the shop at my own pace. I live on a 2nd floor and the two delivery gentlemen got this giant couch up the stairs, around a corner, under an awning, in between two posts, and into my apartment. Absolutely incredible, I have no idea how I'll get it out. This is my permanent residence now. Had a really good experience at Scandinavian Designs. Came here to look for a desk after seeing one online. The store is centrally located with fairly easy street parking. The store itself also has a small lot. Looks modern and new from the exterior. Inside it is nicely laid out. A huge store with lots of furniture options. Really well made stuff at decent prices. When we found a desk we liked, it turned out to be a floor sample that was on clearance. The salesman that helped us was really accommodating and had it disassembled on the spot so that we could take it that evening in our car. There was also a small discrepancy in the marked price as it was mistakingly mislabeled. But they did the right thing and honored the labeled price. You don't get that type of service anymore at most places. Really loved my Scandinavian Designs experience and will return for my future furniture needs. read more

I've been shopping for furniture recently and have visited Room and Board, West Elm, Ana, Ashley, Living Spaces, Macy's, and a few others. I like Scandinavian Designs the best due to their selection, price, value, and customer service. The San Mateo store has more selection than the Cupertino or San Jose stores so I ended buying everything there. Scandinavian Designs carries Wood Castle furniture that has a great sense of style and wood selection. It's just on the pricey side! Romeo was very helpful and knowledgeable and one of the main reasons I chose to buy my furniture here and not another Scandinavian Designs or Room and Board etc. Ask for him when you shop here! read more

TLDR; after 6 weeks of order placed and 4 week delays, hours of phone calls and emails sent to both corporate and san mateo store, they failed to deliver my dresser and I cancelled my order. Forget about it. If you value your time and energy, I'd avoid Scandinavian designs at all cost. Please check recent reviews of the store on google, I know I'm not the only one dealing with issues. I've was dealing with 4 week delays with Scandinavian designs and ultimately cancelled the order. I ordered a $2K dresser from them (vs custom made at different stores) because they promised delivery within two weeks. We just moved in to a new house so we prioritized early delivery as we had all our clothes in suitcases. Instead of ordering online, I figured it might be better if I order through the store directly so I called their sales associate Meiling whom I met when checking the dresser before and placed an order through her. The order process was not at all smooth (I should have known at this point) as it required back and forth on quotes, links she sent me (delayed by a day and she blamed the online team) where I have to make payments for. First delay: The day before the delivery, I get a phone call from store that the warehouse did not have my dresser so they need to push my delivery date to next week. Annoyed but it happens, so I schedule delivery for next week Second delay: Next week, I get a phone call that there are no delivery scheduled for my order and they do not have answers to why. The store manager Lorenzo said they should have never promised early delivery date because it normally takes 3-4 weeks minimum. I asked, can you please make sure we get our dresser next week, in which he replied: "can't promise for sure but confident." Third delay: we actually got a delivery notice the day before. When the delivery arrived, I noticed the product was damaged. I'm pretty frustrated at this point but refused the delivery due to the damage. Note, the store doesn't open until 11am so I'm dealing with online customer team because delivery happened at 9am. While they are very nice and responsive, I learned that they ultimately work with local showrooms so whatever the issue is, I had to go through SM brick and mortar store anyways. The corporate customer support team and the store has 0 communication channels so everytime I'm calling either of them, I need to explain the whole situation from the start. I give them a call at 11am. General manager Lorenzo is out on vacation. Another sales associate says he will reach out to another manager in store. I don't hear back for hours. Gave a call back and the manager in store says she never got a note to give me a call back (sigh). I explain the whole situation again and she places an delivery order for next week Fourth delay: I get a phone call from the third party delivery service. He tells me that the warehouse doesn't even have my dresser so he's not sure why the store told me my dresser is getting delivered. I texted Meiling asking what happened and she says she's not sure why the delivery guy called me before calling her (but why does that make a difference? Ultimately they can't fulfill my order AGAIN!) Another call from Lorenzo. Surprise - They cannot fulfill delivery. They offer 4% off my order as a compensation and my time, what a joke. At this point, I would have gotten custom orders delivered from other stores. There has already been so much delay that purchasing anything else would take longer. I wait for couple more days until I decided that I am done dealing with their incompetence and lies - called to cancel the order. I almost ordered some custom couches from them too so lesson learned and maybe I dodged a bullet. I would go out of my way to recommend against ordering any furniture from this store to anyone considering Scandinavian Designs. What a nightmare. read more

Pathetic customer service, pathetic delivery standards. I ordered a media center and art work from them over 3 weeks ago and they promised to deliver the same on the 10th of December. I even get a confirmation call from them a few days before delivery, but on the day of delivery, they only come with the painting and state that the media center is not in stock. Upon calling the San Mateo branch, they say that it shows in stock and is a system error and now they need to get it ordered from china or have it delivered from Seattle. And it will take at least a few weeks. In return, I ask them for a suitable compensation and they offer only $100. I ended up selling my old media center, have everything kept on the floor, based on their delivery confirmation. Now I am stuck with my television, and everything else kept on the floor and for this type of bad service they value their customer service for only $100? Most ridiculous customer service ever. Never buy anything from them ever. The worst furniture store, with the worst customer service ever. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

It was my first time at the San Mateo location. I went with the intention of buying one of their remarkably comfortable leather chairs. I was greeted by MeiLing. I am writing this review because MeiLing provided the best customer service I've ever had. I found the comfortable chair and continued to look around. MeiLing was low key but always available. I found 4 chairs I loved but couldn't find the right dining table. MeiLing surprised me by grabbing a chair and taking it to various tables until we found a combination that sang. I was shopping for furniture. First of all they really do not have many attractive pieces on the floor. I finally picked up a small item. When came to the cash register, I paid cash. There was a store clerk who took the money from the sales person who was doing the check-out. The clerk then examined the $100 bills not only look through a light, but also scratched the bills a few times. If that's the store policy, I think it's too much. It took him a few minutes to look through just those few bills. It's the worst I have ever seen.,.,it was really done in front of the customer who most like would feel that he was not respected. I had been looking to update my living room furniture for a while. I looked in different places until I came across Scandinavian Designs. I really liked the design, comfort, and price. The sales experience was great. The staff was very helpful answering all my questions and very patient. After I made the purchase, the sales staff explained very well the process for delivery. A week before the delivery, I received a call to confirm the official time of delivery. Two days before, I received another call to confirm the appointment. When my furniture arrived, it was neatly packed. The delivery people were very fast unloading and taking my things to my apartment. They unpacked and assembled my furniture in 25 minutes. All my things were treated with care. Overall, I had a great experience buying from Scandinavian Designs and I will continue buying from them. I am very pleased with my new furniture. The customer service is legitimately amazing. Happy with the quality of the couch too, but the customer service is so good that we would return even with Scandinavean designs clearly a higher price point that places like Ashley Homestore (never bought anything from Ashley but the reviews on service were really bad during the supply chain backlogs and we didn't want to deal with that much frustration). Jordan, when we bought our couch (~October 2021) was extremely responsive when we had questions, and was extremely transparent about the lead time to get the couch. Romeo, when the transformer for our (motorized) couch broke, was extremely helpful and ordered the transformer for us immediately, sent us home with a loaner transformer so it would still work in the meantime, and followed up extremely politely when I forgot to send him a screenshot of the serial number of the couch (which I had promise I would do). Romeo then followed up very quickly when the transformer arrived. For reference, the transformer isn't part of the couch-they're standardized, so it's not like anything was wrong with the couch. Think of it as the power cord for your laptop breaking. read more

I love Scandinavian Design! I have not done much furniture shopping in my lifetime considering I've really only knew and could afford Ikea but now that I'm finally moving into my own apartment, I've started to do more research and frequent more furniture shops. What I will say is that Scandinavian Design offers modern furniture at a reasonable price and the quality is much higher than that of Ikea. They have a 1 year warranty on the furniture they sell and what I like most about them is that their furniture doesn't look or feel cheap. I came here the other day to purchase some of the bigger items for my place including a couch, coffee table, side table and bed frame. They have a Design Deal going on right now where they are marking down certain items to generate popularity but they're different from sale items since sale items have an expiration; the salesmen told me that Design Deals are for a longer period of time. I got a sectional couch originally priced at $1500 for $1100, a king sized bed frame originally priced at $699 for $599, a coffee table for $199 as a display price but they ended up having 2 new ones in the back! and a side table display for $99. They do charge $99 for delivery but that includes simple install and all the items I mentioned are considered simple install. I'm now playing the waiting game as my items are set to delivery in a week. If you are looking for nice, modern furniture and can pay a little more than Ikea pricing for quality, check this place out! Side note, not sure how many locations there are but the one in San Mateo is huge! Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours here if you are just starting your furniture shopping. read more
