Billing department feels like they get to make whatever rules they want.

HOWEVER, after a while, I was given a yearly appt. with doctors I did not know, as Dr. Webb mostly reads sleep studies, I take it. One of these appointments resulted in a female doctor sending the billing code for obstructive sleep apnea AND "psychological insomnia," as I, a chit-chatter, had talked about a period of time when I had insomnia. I WAS NOT there for her to diagnose me; it was a check-in appointment. Long story short, my insurer (Premera) left the Medicare market in WA where I live in 2025. This bill apparently got sent off long after my service (OCT '23, and it was now JAN 25.) North Star, in the meantime, had sent me to collections for a bill I had never been sent, because they kept sending it back with a "wrong code" (a counseling code needed for the "psychiatric insomnia" which I didn't even have anymore). Ii BEGGED Nort Star to rebill it without the error and a nice woman in billing did. (Mind you, this is after months of trying to figure out 1. Why they sent me to collections without as much as calling me and 2. Why it was getting rejected repeatedly. Well, finally I have a piece of paper saying I owe nothing and that Premera won't pay them because they waited too long (to send a proper request without the offending code). I need service providers who will actually mail, call or text about such a thing, not send me to an easy coast collection company (a sign that Dr. Webb is NOT from the PNW?). The staff were not knowledgeable during all of the early calls I made (I wrote to them too). Only one person in the billing department stepped up to help me and it was too late by then for them to get paid. I will never go there again. Thanks for giving me the chance to complain.

After a few tastings, it turns out that I have a severe sleep apnea and is required to sleep with a CPAP machine, and recently after doing a sleep study at UBC hospital, this clinic had set up to a separate oxygen machine to the CPAP machine. At first, it was kind of alarming, but shortly after using it, the was actually really easy to use, seeing as the devices are very non evasive. The result so far is that I do actually feel a bit better physically, and my pulse/heart rate and blood pressure seems to be improving since I started using these machines back in the middle or end of April. I'm still going to be meeting with them for a while, but so far tho, I've been happy with the current results.

It took weeks and weeks to find out it was their fault, they sent me copies (complete with mistakes) but never actually submitted the form. I had to write it up again and take care of it myself. Secondly, if you're overweight he tries to upsell you to start dieting using Ideal Protein, via his wife's MLM. These powdered 'meals' are mostly soy based and for me, caused kidney stones requiring surgery. Finally, after the first 3-6 months you'll never hear from them unless you reach out. I've never been contacted in the since I started with them to check my stats, my machine, or even me for that matter. Meanwhile you've been billed for a 5 year maintenance contract. I asked my MD for another referral to be reevaluated. While at the new firm I took out my machine. They saw the Sleepworks Medical sticker and the technician stated this company is well known and they apparently have a reputation in their industry. My suggestion is to avoid this company and their staff.

But I've been later left in the hands of Julia and Minnie (?), two very young girls, who are simply not ready for this task. Nice persons, but having no idea what they do. It took Julia one week to get a fax from the other provider, and Minnie was sending me to Julia (the receptionist) for any financial issues. I struggled to adapt to the machine during their free trial, but I've been also greatly turned off by their lack of knowledgeable support. I had to read books, watch youtube videos and read most of it by myself. Two weeks before ending my trial, I asked Minnie to send me a short message with just 2-3 financial options for the CPAP machines. Of course, she didn't do it. She just said "yes, yes, yes" when I was trying to send the message this was important to me. They try to sell you "basic" CPAP machines at $1700+, but they cannot explain why very similar machines are sold online for just $400. Minnie kept pretending "they offer free services for life", when I was looking for a simple reason why I should accept a CPAP machine from them for $1500 covered by my insurance PLUS $200 by me. This industry has a lot of such re-sellers taking advantage of our ignorance on the field. I don't mind them making some money as well, but when they truly provide more than silly slogans and the basic CPAP instruction manual (that you can read by yourself).

Said they didn't know why...that it "just happens" to some people. Could not give me any suggestions or tips. I agreed to try again...same thing happened...no data. They became quite huffy & rude when I said I would not be doing it a THIRD time. They then LIED to my doctor. Sent him a note saying that I had "refused" to take the test. Didn't bother telling my doctor that I had already tried 2 times and they could not help me. That's okay. I have informed my doctor of the real situation and he agreed that it did not make sense to send any more patients to this clinic. (Coquitlam location) I have since gone to SnoreMD...much more professional and no issues with my data! No need to put up with this crappy place when their competitors are doing a much better job!
