Hard to believe anyone would give this place less than 4 or 5 stars. The pieces are all unique, and beautifully curated. The store functions as a collective, and several artists and merchants are a part of this group. Slate functions similarly to an antique shop in that way, and the owners/merchants are not there to follow you around to check up on you or annoy you while you are shopping. Maybe some people don't like that, but it's an introvert's dream shopping experience. Slate is a magical world of interior decor and a gem in Charlotte's crown. Highly recommend. read more

I am an Interior Designer and purchased many items from Slate Interiors for clients. The first issue came when we purchased two bar stools that were mainly for looks not use. A few months after, we noticed that a pink color was bleeding through the white leather it had been covered with. I felt I had a very good relationship with Slate, so I ask if there were anything they could do, even an exchange. The owner/manager of Slate, Teri, (not sure her position) said she didn't know where this particular vendor had gone and that there was nothing she could do. She went on to say, that they were "cheap" as if we should have expected it. They were $200 each. Now, they did give me a designer discount so she was going back and forth with me over $386.00. In my business world, she should have known, if an exchange was given, I would have definitely purchased more. But she refused and then began avoiding my calls. So then it became about principal; I decided to call channel 9, and it was at that point she refunded my money and her assistant, Conner basically through it in my face in front of other customers and embarrassed herself, I guess, although, from previous reviews, this must be common behavior. But I let it go, didn't write a review until now. As I said, we shopped there a lot for clients. We had purchased two chairs, for around $1,600.00. A few months ago, our client called and had to let us know that the chair had broken and she fell through and injured herself. Of course, we rushed right over, took care of the problem, refunded her money and found her a better product. Thank God, she wasn't hurt worse. I have not discussed this with the Slate owner, Teri, given the last adventure, I was sure I didn't need that harassment and decided to take the high road and just wanted to take care of our client. Can you imagine the lawsuit that could have taken place! However, it is important for other shoppers to know. Please don't purchase from Slate for clients or for yourself; beware of furniture that is unreliable and could even be dangerous. And understand that they do not intend to stand by their products. And they do not care. I would NEVER purchase from them again; given their attitude and the JUNK they sell. Given it may not all be JUNK but do you want to take the chance?? I still have other items we have purchased, just waiting to see what the outcome is. PLEASE BE WARE!! I have never in all my time as a designer and/or shopper, met more arrogant, hateful, and uncaring business people. read more

I love Slate Interiors. They have such a wide array of unique and exquisitely refinished vintage furniture. Their prices are extremely fair based on the market, the type and brand of furniture that they sell. They operate as a store containing booths, so sometimes you can hit the store on a Saturday when the booth owners are changing out pieces and they can offer you a new price on a piece which is nice. I am a fan of Slate Interiors! I love the art, the unique tables, lamps, chairs, chandeliers, home accessories, etc.. There is always something unique here that I want to take home with me. It is the type of place that makes you dream of how you might decorate a beach house, a mountain house, a contemporary house, etc.. The prices are reasonable on most things. Occasionally, I feel like the pricing has no rhyme or reason. They tend to have great mid-century pieces but these move quickly! A lot of their merchandise turns over, so it is always a new shopping experience. If you see it and you want it-- BUY IT! I have lost several great things because I wanted to "think about it." The place is overflowing with wonderful local art. I have noticed these pieces don't seem to sell as quickly as the furniture. For the most part, the booths are well laid out with lovely inventory. There are a few that could use a good makeover. The people who work here are friendly, though I did buy an set of something and received a phone call that the price tag on the item was incorrect, it was not for both pieces of the pair but had been priced per item. I was told I could either pay the new price or return the items. I opted to return the items and they wanted it back within 24 hours. As this was their mistake, and I live across town, I thought this was poor customer service. All in all it is in my top 5 places to browse interior goods. read more

Horrible customer service. I purchased a dresser and found that it had a horrible, old mothball smell to it. I understand Slate has a no return policy but they were in no way willing to assist me in finding a resolution to the problem. Their attitude, specifically the manager, Teri was "too bad" we can't help you. It's sad that once they had my money they no longer cared whether I was a happy customer or whether I'd return for further merchandise. Now I'm stuck with a dresser I cannot use and one I'll have a hard time selling due to the odor. The odor wasn't identifiable in their large store but was extremely noticeable once I had it in my small room. I will ensure no one I know patronizes them for they too may have the same sad and despicable service. And to think I wanted to buy additional items from this store. Thankfully there are other merchants in Charlotte who'd love to have my business. read more

Really cool place with an eclectic mix of furniture, art, and home furnishings.

UPscale but not all the way uptown, the merchandise changes constantly and grab it if you like it because it might not be there next time you stop in. The monthly gallery crawls are a blast, GREAT food and great art along with killer room settings. Friendly staff and browsing is relaxed. read more

Slate interiors is like a pandora a box, you never know what you are going to find new and different. A lot my favorite things in my house are from slate. I will say that sometimes the parking can be a little tricky with the other businesses nearby compromising a lot of the parking, but if you get there at the right times, it's okay. Slate can also be good for smaller things like gifts, too. Keep up the good work! read more
