When you enter, there are a million things all in one room, though after wandering around, it felt less intimidating than other antique shops. Pricing is different, with an assigned amount and then reductions the longer it sits on the showroom floor. You can chance it for the better price, but beware someone may snag the treasure for themselves! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable of the inventory. I didn't realize they were not 'officially' open on Monday and I drove by. I saw the door was open so I parked and went it to check it out. There was a lady carrying carpets in through the front door and I said 'hello'. She was real nice and explained that technically they were not open but I was welcome to cruise around if I wanted. I told her I was looking for furniture consignment and we talked about it for a little bit. It was such a great experience to talk with her and determined she was the owner/manager, Lisa. Everything you read about how genuine, professional and helpful she is is true. This is the kind of independently owned & operated business I want to support. read more

The people that work here are wonderful - friendly, very knowledgeable and helpful. Separate vendor spaces and each one has their own unique identity. They have out of the ordinary rugs, furniture, art, lighting, pillows & handcrafted jewelry made in Charlotte,North Carolina. They truly support local small businesses. Was in the area checking out antique stores, Apple Maps suggested this shop. I wouldn't consider this an "antique store". It is a high end consignment furniture/home decor shop. Although they do have a decent selection of eccentric, quality, like-new items, the prices are a little steep for secondhand. For example, $750 for a large dresser, $900 for a runner, $850 paintings.. definitely on the high end for consignment prices but it's a lovely little shop if within your budget. read more

I'm almost embarrassed to say that it took me 2+ years to finally stop in at South End Exchange and I live only a few blocks away! I popped in here for a few minutes to take a look at their antique treasures - expect furniture of all types and sizes, lovely mirrors, glassware, vintage dishes, paintings and a whole slew of kitschy antique-y fun to decorate a space. While I'm no expert in pricing antique or consigned furniture, the items looked reasonable for the condition and quality. I saw everything for a $5 (adorable) dish to a $1,600 sofa in a matter of minutes. I was especially diggin' some of the really lovely and large antique mirrors - priced between $100-$150. Be aware that this place is *packed* with goodies and the quarters can be quite tight. Thus, if you really are seeking a treasure, make sure you devote some serious time to your search. Since I've only been in here once, I'm not sure how often the merchandise changes out, but based on the goods I imagine there are new items consigned on a fairly regular basis! If I were decorating a cool country space or simply adding some flair to my own dwelling, South End Exchange is definitely worth a stop! read more

I found the South End Exchange while driving around running errands earlier today, and I was so happy I did! It's a consignment store for home items, mostly furniture and antique furniture. You can find some very nice items in here, and if you have items you are looking to get rid of you could bring them here on consignment as well. What is especially nice about this place is that every 30 days the prices dramatically decrease if an item makes it that far. But judging by the location and clientele that was in there while I was searching, I bet that doesn't happen very often. The store is constantly changing and items are consistently coming in and going out. Check them out! read more

My husband and I were wandering around these back streets of South End and stumbled across this place. We were in the market for furniture, but we were only planning to get ideas, not actually buy anything. We walked around for about 15 minutes and took pictures of a few things we liked. We were about to leave when we happened to ask out of curiosity about pricing. So here's the deal, the price on the tag is what it was first selling for when it came in. Most furniture in the store is consignment, so that means after a certain date the price will drop. The dates and lesser prices are listed in much smaller print on the tag. We found a coffee table we loved and got it for a great price! They unlocked the back door and had us pull our car around to the loading bay. They also had a whole bowl of tape measures at the front counter, which was super convenient! read more

We brought them many nice light fixtures, about 10 large stretched canvas pieces and other items. They said they mailed us 2 checks one for $48 and one for $53. They don't mail checks out anymore nor do they call you to tell you they have a check for you. It's your responsibility to call them. After 90 days they keep your money.$2000-$3000 (value for our items) turned into $101 in 2 imaginary checks. Then they kept the rest of the items that didn't sell. They never called either they don't do that. Don't bring your stuff here go to Consignment 1st and see Donna they will treat you right. This place is a scam and you would be better off donating your items or throwing them in the trash. Otherwise they will take them and not pay. Don't waste your time and energy with Southend Exchange. Folks, if you value your furniture, pay very close attention to their contract - especially regarding damage - before you consign. Today I retrieved a piece they were unable to sell, all set to take pictures and list it myself. But now I won't be able to sell it either, due to extensive damage suffered at this store. My china cabinet - nearly new upon delivery 8 months ago - is now pock-marked with dings and scratches. One corner is smashed and the upper half is short one glass shelf because they broke it! These shelves are very thick...I try not to think what could have occurred to cause that, but then I noticed one of the metal shelf brackets - not aluminum - was also bent. Did they keep bowling balls in the cabinet? They're too cluttered, and either careless or under-staffed. Customers can/must move things around to gain access to other objects, a practice that no doubt contributes to accidental contact with other objects. I urge caution to everyone who's considering consigning through SouthEnd Exchange. read more

All about the sale, not so much about the customer. We've found great items in the past at the S.E. Exchange and my family has spent over $2500 in the past 3 years. My biggest purchase was a couch with white upholstery. Labor Day weekend had a 10% off sale at the Exchange. We spent $900 on the couch + $40 for delivery, as the couch did not fit in our SUV. The couch was delivered uncovered and tied to the top of South End Exchange's SUV. Not a delivery truck, not covered but illegally tied to the top of an SUV. The couch was a large piece and they had difficulty getting it through the door. My husband removed our front door for them and they shoved it through. The couch was left with grease stains on the front, upholstered fabric. I was not home at the time of delivery but when I saw the couch, I was devastated. I notified the store and was told I could borrow their cleaner they use on all ink and grease stains. Still having faith in the Exchange doing the right thing, I borrowed their cleaner. It removed about 80% of the stain but there are still shadows of grease stains. When I returned the cleaner to the store and told them the result, there was no effort on their part to make this right or take ownership of the problem. They told me how hard it was to get in the house, what the couch's retail price is, that I got a discount (the 10% Labor Day sale), asked why my husband didn't stop the delivery, then suggested I have it professionally cleaned. When I asked if they would take it back or want it in their home, silence. When I asked if they would pay for the cleaning, a long silence until one of the owners said she'd pay for it out of her own pocket. They would not own this problem during this whole time. They said they'd get back to me once they had time to consider what to do. They offered to pay 80% of the bill to have it cleaned. They did honor paying the 80% and said they were sorry it happened. So, I have a couch with a stain on it but I did not buy a couch with a stain on it. The professional upholstery cleaner said they should never have given me an grease cleaner to clean the stain. It reduced the possibility of removing the stain professionally down to 0 to 20%. After his best efforts, the stain remains and there is nothing else that can be done without ruining the fabric. Time to say 'good bye' to the South End Exchange. read more

I really liked this place because it has something for all budgets. Yes the larger furniture items are expensive, but then there are beautiful decorative items that can add a touch of class to a room for like $12. I wanted to redo my whole apartment with the things I found here. Give it a whole classy/ country look. Anyway, the selection is always changing like most consignment stores. I love this place so much that it was on my list of must visit places now that I no longer live in Charlotte. Seriously Queen City residents, you don't know what a gem you have here. I was surprised to find that they had moved but I love that they have SOOOO much more space and inventory. You can finally see everything without having to dig for treasure although I kinda missed that part of the experience. They also have a lot more room to hang linens and curtains. I got a steal of a deal on some custom drapes - $95 a pair. Lined, goblet pleats, trimmed. Gorgeous. I would have paid $2000 to have similar ones made in SoCal where I live now. I miss you South End Exchange and the only reason I'm willing to write this review is because I can't visit as often anymore and I'm willing to give out this terrific find. read more

Terribly upset. Tried to buy a mirror. Spoke to Lisa online. Told her of my interest. She left early and didn't communicate it to any other sales associate. Someone else came in after and put it "on hold". She then denied me the purchase after my expressed interest.... And by the way... Never offered me the same option to hold it.... Walked in with my husband looking for some furniture pieces and I'd heard good things about this place from Facebook. As soon as we walked in, there were three people standing in front. One was an employee behind the counter, one was, I'm assuming the owner (since she had her dog with her and proceeded to go into the back and said "I'll be back later", leaving her dog behind) and one was a customer who seemed like she knew both of them. All three of them made eye contact with us as we came in and no one said a word. No "hello" or "welcome in" at all. I'm not normally one to be picky about stuff like that but we quickly circled around (was greeted by the DOG of all things) and headed for the door. I was at least expecting a "thanks for coming in" or "come back to see us"....of course we got nothing. We unfortunately won't be returning. read more

This gem of a consignment store is one of my favorite places in Charlotte to shop and the only place I consign my furniture and art. Very cozy, welcoming atmosphere and no pressure sales people. I visit Charlotte on a regular basis an I LOVE South End Exchange! Good people (Lisa is so friendly and helpful when I'm hunting for something specific) and always have a great variety of pieces here - I can't walk in there without finding something I can't live without. Was just in today and found the exact perfect end table for my parent's den! I have a couple of friends who have sold old furniture here and they've had a great experience with these guys as well. I was spending the day in Charlotte with some girls, Christmas shopping. One of the girls found "South End Exchange" in a magazine and we thought we would check it out. What a find!! I have been back several times in three weeks and bought something each time. Great prices and lots of different pieces. I have bought matching mirrors for a new beach house; wooden chairs for a conference room table in a public building the city is restoring, and a bedside table for my daughter's apartment. LOVE IT!
