This is another one of those overpriced places that seems to offer a mix of shabby chic and collectables to people that have more money than they really need. It's overcrowded and dusty and a lot of the items appear to be a cross between vintage antique and yard sale curiosities. Overpriced and undervalues in my humble opinion but if that's your thing go for it. I'm just one of those that refuses to pay for overpriced and undervalued goods. Note, they are in the back of the Park Road Shopping Center so a little tricky to find. Can you imagine what their rent might be? No wonder everything is overpriced. read more

For those of you true antique-ers in the Charlotte area, this place is for you. It is a real antique store; the kind that has that musty sort of smell when you walk in, of a compilation of scents from all of the old houses the items came from many years ago. The kind of place where no matter which direction you decide to begin scouring, you will instantly find a doll staring at you that freaks the crap out of you and makes you jump out of your own skin. This is that place. Although it is located behind the Park Road Shopping Center, and a bit hard to find, people definitely know it is here - there were several people shopping around and a few who were pulling up their cars to load up furniture pieces. Among the items I saw where a freaky paper mache bunny with a haunting picture of a little girl, an old and dusty lamp that was a brass elephant, and several old bird cages. In the middle of everything was an almost new looking set up pottery barn dishes, the young one amongst all the old timers. No employee here asked me if I needed help during my stay, which is the way it should be, given it is an antique store and people come here in search of things that only they will know when they see. It would have felt wrong for someone to offer assistance unless asked. If you are into the old furniture and home decor, you should definitely swing by this place. You never know what might be waiting at this consignment store-- a mirror, a chandelier (their selection is usually fabulous!), window treatments, or a lamp... who knows!?! This is a consignment store and not a thrift store-- the prices reflect this. Their inventory turns over quickly. As a former client and a current customer, I can attest to that! My experience to sell has been terrible, owner rude not knowledgeable, guessed age of items, priced horrible red fox purses, 35.00 leopard purse priced 30.00 real fur when I asked for a list of my items and priced I never got it after two weeks I took everything back. They acted as if they were doing me a favor, they were uneducated about age of items and it was a guessing game. I rarely drive to Charlotte any longer from the lake due to an illness. Today I drove to go do some thrift shopping. There's no better place to find upscale consignments than this place. Today they closed early which is understandable but the ladies blasted it loud and clear as a few shopped. The poor lady on the phone with a worker. They are closed Monday but the caller claimed she had an appt. They hung up and the workers chastised her for her ignorance. I quickly scooted out with money in my pocket. Great place to shop and consign with. Professional, helpful, and easy-going. I had an easy time setting up an appointment; a staff member helped me bring boxes of items, go through them, and take the rest back to my car. Classic Attic is a hidden gem in the Park Road Backlot. Like any consignment store their selection is hit or miss but it's always a fun adventure to explore what is available. Today was a win with two new pieces of art for our house! The best part, we were allowed to take them home for 24 hours to see if we liked them before committing. I tried to return my item out on approval TWICE within the time frame I was verbally given, and nobody was there. They charged my card anyways for a chair for which I have no room, and refused to refund any of the amount. The customer is supposed to be right, and it is not my fault nobody was there. UPDATE!: After another phone call, an employee admitted they left for lunch during the rain. The owner got on the phone and denied having ever left. They said they could reconsign for 60 percent. So...that means I would pay THEM to take back something they were supposed to anyways?? NO THANKS! My husband and I always look forward to stopping by Classic Attic when we are in that area. We have found quite a few lovely items for our home which we have not been able to find elsewhere. A few in particular have been an old Harden chair that we had reupholstered which we are thrilled with and another adorable chair for our guest bedroom and a beautifully framed picture for our powder room. We often find something to add to our home whenever we stop by. We have also sold some of our items as well at a better percentage than other consignment shops. I have furnished 3 very different homes from Classic Attic and they had the perfect finds for each of them. And I have consigned the furniture that didn't work with the next house. The custom drapery and duvets would have cost thousands to have made. My home looks like a high priced designer made original choices for me. I was getting ready to purchase some cheaply made furniture at a national chain then stopped into Classic Attic and found high end real wood pieces that I can keep for a lifetime. I had been watching a dining table and six chairs for a few weeks before going to make the purchase.I had felt like the staff was snooty and not so interested in giving service, but the furniture suited my needs well. Everything went well. I paid the money and loaded the chairs on our truck with some assistance from the staff. When we got home the first thing I noticed was that one of the chairs had serious scratches on it. Really it as my responsibility to check the furniture for damage. I did not like the fact they never mentioned it but - my bad. I determined I would probably not go back to this business again. Later the table and chairs began to reek of cigarette odor - very strong smell that permeated the house. I called to ask what suggestions they might have about ways to eliminate this. The somewhat haughty person finally said "I have no idea - try Google." I never suggested returning the furniture, but I sure did expect a bit more concern or even interest about the issue. Their bad - if I ever go back (doubtful) I will carefully inspect every item, and I will expect to be treated indifferently by the staff. read more
