A cozy family friendly spot for quick bites. Liked the lobster roll, but rest of the food ordered were not up to mark. Daily specials, hush puppies and shrimp was not okay, taco was served with burnt fish and was too salty. No complaints on the service, very attentive and polite. Definitely the lobster rolls are must try if you are around the area.
My wife and I took an extremely short trip to the Savannah/Hilton Head Island area last week to check it out and got super hungry while doing it. We were driving down what I think was the main road through the island when we drive by Slapfish, liked the logo, and decided to come stuff our faces. This place looks like a fast food style restaurant for seafood and I had no issue with that (I did google it and find out both Utah and California also have locations so I probably wouldn't of come here if I knew it was a chain, but it was still good so oh well). The menu has fish n' chips, tacos, burritos, and a bunch of other seafood options to cure any hunger. For me? Well, I saw the giant shrimp burrito when I walked in and knew it was my destiny to inhale that bad boy like a whale eating crustaceans. My eyes definitely underestimated the size of the big shrimp burrito as it was absolutely massive, almost two burritos pretending to be one. It was packed with rice, huge pieces of shrimp, and some sauce that tasted phenomenal. I managed to eat the whole dang burrito (and get a nice slapfish sticker for doing it) and left being as full as I could possibly be. The burrito itself was absolutely delicious and probably one of if not the best shrimp burrito I've ever had. The burrito was also served with some seasoned tortilla chips on the side that I tried a few of and they were really good as well. Overall, Slapfish was an unexpected home run and a place I will absolutely be back to in the future. The food was absolutely delicious while the staff were extremely friendly. The restaurant itself was well decorated for the style it was and I have pretty much no complaints. Five stars for this massive shrimp burrito!
Slap tha fish!!!! Lobster roll and fries. Is a must get!!! The buttered roll filled with fresh lobster meat with crispy fries. Quick polite service. They serve beer too. Try a local IPA. The restaurant was clean, several TVs and seating too. The seats can get uncomfortable if you're seating for a long period of time. My next visit. I plan to try the lobster grilled cheese.
This was our first time here. The young lady who waited on us was very helpful. There a is a good gluten free selection. Good, fresh ingredients. I tried the grilled cod and snapper tacos. They recommended 2, but J was only able to finish one. The cole slaw was simple, but paired with tarter sauce. The in house tarter sauce was flavorful, with a hint of dill. There are multiple sauces. Fish and chip were "delicious " and "highly recommended." They use soda water instead of beer, creating a light and fluffy coating. Definitely a good place to come for quick and fresh food. The restaurant is open and airy with a nice cross breeze. There is outdoor seating, too.
This was my first visit to Slapfish, perfect meal after a day at the beach. We wanted fish and chips, Slapfish served it up nice, fresh, and crisp! The batter on the fish was light and crispy. If you love hot sauce, they have a hot, hot, hot selection. For the sweeties, they have key lime pie, banana cream cake and some others..., I tried the banana cream cake, it's creamy, moist, and nutty. . Great variety of fish on the menu for everyone in your party! Hospitality is great and the restaurant is clean!!! Slapfish is a winner!
Everything on the menu sounded fabulous. Locals picking up orders they called in recommended the lobster roll and lobster taquitos. However, if you are limiting your carbs, head for the salad. This was a great mix of shedded cabbage with a few carrots on primarily a bed of spinach. The shrimp were very good with a citrus sauce. The sauce from the shrimp helped to flavor the salad, so I barely used the dressing (which also had a great flavor). I would definitely return.
This is one of the rare occasions that a restaurant that looks like a chain but isn't a chain is actually damned delicious. Luckily, it was the first place I ate on HHI, so I knew where to go for the good stuff. I ate the gambit from the fish and chips, the salads, the tacos, and all the sides. Absolutely delicious! A couple of fresh options local to the area and some which are definitely flown in, but they are honest with a cool sourcing board on the wall as soon as you walk through. The staff is also great and knowledgeable about the food. They are usually very welcoming without lingering. Stupid good time!
Visited for the weekend, we had always wanted to try authentic southern seafood and this is the place to visit. The service was prompt we didn't have to wait more than 30 min for our food. The food was very flavorful and fulfilling the portion sizes were very generous. I ordered the Surf N Turf Burger and kids grill cheese. There's plenty of parking and is close to the Omni resort we were taken by the shuttle. Will go back again when we visit Hilton Head.
Well, we tried. First off, the fried pickles were really good. Unfortunately, the rest of our food fell flat primarily because of the seasoning. We ordered the single fish and fries ($10) and double fish and fries ($14). The shrimp burrito was a very good size but not a lick of seasoning. The guy at the front taking our orders was very helpful and nice. Would I visit again? Probably not, but they have sauces, vinegar, hot sauce, tarter, and Old Bay seasoning that can help.
Quick service from a very friendly employee. Food was fresh and hot. Portion size was sufficient for the price. We ordered the fish tacos, tuna poke bowl and the lobster roll. The lobster roll was smaller than the one at Brown Bag but it does cost less. If you want a fresh healthy lunch/dinner this is a good option in Hilton Head.
Slapfish is a new fast casual spot near the Sea Pines Circle. You order at a counter and the food comes to your table. We were able to put tables together outside on the patio. Some Covid protocols where in place with social distancing signs. They have all the indoor space open to the outside for fresh air. This is a come as you are place, very casual. Some menu items stood out more than others. The Bowls seem to be a whole different business than the Fried Fish. You can find much better Fried Fish at places like the Sea Shack and Steamers. I would steer away from items with Fried Fish as part of the dish. The bowls are a newer concept for Hilton Head. I hope they expand that area as it is fresh and healthy. Daily specials are written on roll of brown butcher paper to the right of the cash register. Constancy seems to be an issue with people ordering the same dish and it looking very, very different. We will try again and hope the kinks get worked out. Slapfish has their own parking lot.
Great fish! Had the double fish and chips, along with the grilled fish rice bowl. Large portions. Great quality. The owner was there pacing around - you can tell he works hard to keep the quality up. We enjoyed it!
Food was delicious! Staff - not necessarily unfriendly. More like indifferent. Like didn't care if they had customers or not. So depends on what's important to you. Ambiance was beachy - open doors, seat yourself, order at the register, fix your own drink. Clean up after yourself.
I've driven past Slap Fish on my trips to HHI for the past decade--was never sure if it was "fast food" or beach seafood shack or what...and while locals either love or hate the place, I was encouraged to give it a chance and it would surprise me. I visited during the last week of February, so definitely "pre-season" and there was no wait (or many patrons) at 6:00 pm. I must confess that I am a New Englander, so we take our seafood pretty seriously; I'm not daft enough to order lobster in SC, when it should be coming from Maine, so I passed over those options, but I was curious to try the "New England Clam Chowder". We also ordered the fried pickles w/ Jersey sauce, an order of the special Jax shrimp (akin to bang bang shrimp), 2 fish sandwiches, a shrimp burrito, and I had an ultimate taco. You order at the counter, grab your utensils and condiments off to the side, along with fountain drinks & iced tea. They sell draft beer, a limited variety of bottled beer, some Truly-type seltzer cans, but I had to have a Mexican Coke, even though it set me back $4.50. Sit in the dining area and the food is delivered to your table. First off: the NE clam chowder was hot and filling, but it was more like a loaded baked potato soup--too viscous (not dairy based), some clam flavor, but too much bacon. I spied some clams, and there was a spicy finish; truthfully, I could not finish it but folks unaware of how it should be wouldn't bat an eye. The fried pickles were large spears in a light, tempura-like batter; the group agreed we'd have liked them cut into smaller bites to make them easier to manage. But tasty. The fish sandwiches were piled high with fresh cod filets, lightly breaded and sitting atop a brioche bun piled with lettuce & tomato, served with seasoned fries (paprika-forward). We got a side of the homemade coleslaw, and everyone agreed it was fresh and delicious. The shrimp burrito took a bit of time to come out after all the other dishes, but it was large and half was taken home to finish later. My ultimate taco was fabulous! It arrived garnished like some sort of fancy-pants entree at a high-end restaurant--a huge surprise and very filling. It lived up to its description requiring two hands to hold it. My favorite of the night was actually the special Jax shrimp, which we added on a whim--shrimp was perfectly breaded & fried, all very plump & juicy. I'd have eaten another order of them if I'd had the room. I believe Slap Fish is worth a visit--perhaps several visits. If you discount the New England clam chowder (get a native in the back to show the cook how to make it!), every piece of fish was fresh and delicious. Again, I'm not sure how Slap Fish measures up in the height of the summer season, but I was pleasantly enlightened on my first visit. read more
One of my favorite spots in the area. Was sad when they closed down the Savannah location. Food is delicious, healthy and fresh. Even with the fast casual dining, as you can see from the picture, the presentation is comparable to an expensive sit down restaurant. Have only been for lunch but this is a great spot. Restaurant has a cool environment with open patios, friendly staff and prompt service. Food took a while to come out but they take their time to craft a work of culinary art which rivals the taste! read more

Really solid food in a fun fast-casual atmosphere. This place is very eye-catching in a high-traffic location. I finally got around to trying and I'm so glad I did! I went in for lunch and I got the lobster grilled cheese and key lime pie. The grilled cheese is deliciously luxurious with the lobster addition and the awesome sauce it came with paired really nicely with it. The key lime pie is made in-house and you could tell, it was really yummy. Great experience and great food in a relaxed space. I really enjoyed it and I would definitely recommend it! read more

HORRIBLE We ordered on door s Dash gave us the WORST piece of fish EVER Manager of course not available was told he or she would call back 30 minutes no call. DOUNBELIEVABLE NOT GO!!!! read more
Slapfish is always a treat to have. I always get the lobster taquitos and the grilled fish bowl for the most part, but their lobster roll is also delicious. The people that work here are the best and very accommodating with your order. It's a cool spot to sit and eat and not stuffy on the inside. If you prefer to do take out, it's always nice too. Same great taste. Will always enjoy coming here. read more

This is my second time to slap fish and unfortunately today is because it was not quite good as the first. The tuna in the Poké bowl did not taste fresh and had an unfortunate fishy taste. I much preferred the honey lime dressing to the spicy soy dressing that it was served with. The taquitos were good and large enough for a late lunch meal. read more

We were in a hurry to decide on a lunch spot. I remembered driving past this place and decided to pull up the menu. Everything was absolutely delicious! I love that they offer grilled or fried options for many of their dishes. I had the fried fish and chips. I got the grilled version for my son who is gluten free. My daughter had the lobster taquitos appetizer. My husband had the fried shrimp roll sandwich. Everything we ordered was well-seasoned, including the french fries. The fish and chips came with housemade tarter sauce and pickles. Pro-tip: The portion sizes are VERY generous. read more

I'm going to give this spot 3 stars in hope that the food is better later in the day. They had just opened when I order. But I got the Mahi it was grilled and it was on the dry side. But the sauces they had for the fries and on the taco was pretty good. I would like to try other items on the menu. Service was nice she told me the item was definitely a hot pick. Atmosphere is more of if your looking for a quick meal instead of a nice sit down and enjoy your time kind of place. read more

Food was good but service sucks! Especially the front girl. Needed a to go box she was chatting with the cooks didn't even bother to turn around! I did try to get her attention with no luck! She was too busy talking with the cooks. They even saw me but didn't even mention anything! This exact same thing happened last time we were there and same bad service! Please retrain your staff on customer service! read more
It's ok.. . Very first thing I noticed is how clean the place was! The dining area and bathrooms were immaculate! The server was very patient as we figure out what they offer and what we really want. He was very kind with answering our questions and even made recommendations. I got the shrimp roll and I'd say it's pretty average. Not much flavor and the amount of shrimp was very minimal considering the price. I also got a side salad with it and I love that they use spring greens instead of romaine. If you want a fast, and casual place for seafood, give this place a try! read more

What a fantastic hidden gem located on Hilton Head Island. Looking for some local seafood dishes this is the place. The ambiance is super casual, clean, and quant. The bathrooms were super clean. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The menu had a variety of local fish cuisines ranging fish tacos, fish bowls, and variety of rolls. We ordered the lobster roll, clam roll, and shrimp burrito wrap. This place also serves light seltzer's, local beers and some drafts. The lobster roll was by far one of the most tasty and flavorful rolls I have ever experienced. The price was a little high based on the size but overall extremely tasty. It was served with a choice of fries or a side salad. The clam roll was delicious with fries as well. The shrimp burrito was super sized and could have been shared with two people. This was served with seasoned tortilla chips. A little spicy packed with tons of flavors and rice. Overall this place is highly recommended stop for lunch or dinner time. Amazing place to stop and order any of their local fish dishes. Service was great!!! The staff were friendly and informative!!! read more

The Lobster roll was amazing. Delicious. I did not want to share my food with my family for the first time ever. But, I allowed one small bite. They also had the chowder,fries, and fish tacos. Spectacular. We have found our people!!! As they say. Service was wonderful. You will need to ask how this restaurant's name was established. Very interesting. read more
Slapfish SLAPS and earns 5 stars! I'm on the island all the time and wanted to find healthy fast casual. This place didn't disappoint. The food was healthy and so flavorful. I ordered the grilled fish bowl with salmon, brown rice, and salad. My salmon was a perfect portion and cooked to a perfect medium. The rice was cooked well with a nice spice sprinkled on top and my salad was fresh. The staff was amazing and patiently answered all of my questions - and I had many. I ordered to go, but would have felt comfortable eating there. That's high praise coming from me. In these times, I've been extremely careful. They've got a beautiful, open-air dining room, outdoor seating and plenty of healthy options. Can't wait to try other options next time. read more

First I'm sorry no pictures. We had their fished chips dinner and oh it was so delicious. We did take out as we were waiting for several phone calls all day. So an excellent meal for our day of waiting was worth the wait. Hoki white fish fried to perfection and crispy hot French fries. Try Slapfish it won't disappoint. read more
