I have never before written a Google review and I have thought long and hard before writing this one, but I have concluded it needs to be written. We contracted with Slade Roofing to replace the wood shingle roof on our 6,000 square foot home last summer. We have never worked with a less professional, less qualified company than Slade Roofing. We were told by the employee who bid our project that he would be present everyday work was being done on our home. He was not and instead they sent an employee who (as he explained to us) sat in his truck and watched videos. When Slade had supposedly completed the project and were ready to leave the project and get paid, we could see for ourselves, from ground level, that there were a lot of issues with the installation. My 67-year-old husband, had to climb to the top of our second story roof to inspect the project and when he did, he discovered it was a total mess. Had he not done so though, Slade would have called the project complete and asked for payment. We called the absentee supervisor, and he finally came around and acknowledged every flaw that we identified. Those flaws included, to mention a few: (1) ridge caps that were not spaced properly and were not nailed down securely and would have blown off with the first mildly strong wind; (2) tin or steel instead of copper pipe and vent boots as promised; (3) using galvanized nails on copper flashing which every roofer knows you do not do; (4) unacceptable gaps in the shingles; (5) crooked placement of the shingles; (6) non-uniform placement of the shingles along wall-ridge junctions; (7) lose flashing that was not properly nailed sown; (8) nails/staples driven through the drip edging and protruding out the roof overhang; and (9) flashing that was improperly/unevenly cut and installed in terrible condition. On top of all of that, the crew ruined most of the copper gutter on our house bending it or driving nails or screws through it and they way that they "reinstalled" gutters would have undoubtedly resulted in serious damage to our house come wintertime. We called the owner of Slade on the phone and to his credit he agreed to send the crew back out to repair all the issues and Slade paid to replace all the damaged copper gutters they had damaged beyond repair. Luckily, we had not yet paid Slade the balance of the contract and we believe that is the reason they agreed to come back and repair their work. But one should not have to go through this sort of process and inspection to be assured that a roof is being properly installed on their house. Based on our terrible experience with Slade, it is our firm opinion that Slade does not care at all about the quality of their work and any homeowner who hires them will need to watch their every move to ensure that a roof is properly installed. If there were only two roofing contractors available to us and the other contractor's bid was double or triple Slade's bid, we would be forced to use the more expensive contractor rather than ever deal with Slade again. As we said at the outset, we have never worked with a less professional, less qualified company than Slade Roofing. read more

Slade Roofing began when Tyler Slade, an insurance agency owner, became frustrated with contractors taking advantage of clients, talking clients into filing claims that they never should have filed, failing to show up on time, billing for more than they contracted, and taking longer on jobs than they estimated. The list of frustrations could go on. There had to be a better way. He reflected on his own experience as a roofer. It would be much better if the contractors were professional, understood the mechanics of insurance policies, and communicated effectively. Slade Roofing was born. Our philosophy is "Under-promise, over-deliver." We replaced the "con" in construction with professionalism. You are going to love Slade Roofing.

Meet the Manager: Tyler S.

Tyler Slade began in the roofing industry in 1997. He is a certified Malarkey contractor, HAAG-certified, and a professional home and business insurance consultant. Tyler has received numerous awards in the insurance field such as Pacesetter, Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist, Canyonlands Master Agent of The Year. His understanding of insurance and roofing combined allows him to better serve homeowners when dealing with roofing claims or repairs. Tyler and his wife, Sherida, have eight children and enjoy hiking, traveling, and playing board games.

Had four confirmed appointments, all with no shows and no call informing me that they were unable to meet their confirmed appointment. Finally called another company and made a new appointment. Then one morning I hear people on our roof (just after 8:00am). Went outside and spoke with the guys, and they say they were here to fix the roof ( it would have been polite to call the evening before or knock on the door). Ten minutes later a worker fell off the roof, and it appeared he had a concussion. The manager took his employee to the clinic which was a relief, but the other guys then didn't have the appropriate tools. Long story short, I was on the roof with them, loaning them my tools, using google translation to communicate (very nice workers) and a few hours later they had completed the repair. I asked for them to have their boss call me as I wanted to know how the worker who went to the clinic was doing, as well I wanted to share my experience (pretty chaotic and unprofessional) with him. Additionally I called the office and left a voicemail and asked to speak with the owner (you will likely only get an answering machine like I did). Never a call back, never a visit from the manager to inspect the work, and then I received a good sized bill for labor without an hourly breakdown. I stopped by the office with checkbook in hand twice trying to pay and to speak about my experience. Very nice office staff, and they said they would relay my experience and someone would contact me. A month later, no call, email, or any attempt for communication. I stopped by today to pay as I wanted to just put an end to my relationship with this company. If you're looking for honesty, integrity, good communication, and Wyoming business values - I'd recommend another organization who stands by their word and work. This could have been an amazing learning opportunity for both management and staff on safety and customer service. Instead, they chose to burn a local family and ignore a customer concern that could have easily been addressed. Guess who I won't call for a roof replacement nor who I will recommend to anyone in this town for any roofing repair/replacement.

Our first problem occurred when we experienced some ice damning on our roof that lead to water backing up and getting behind the some unprotected brick work and water worked it's way into the interior walls causing damage. Tyler and his crew were able to identify the problem straight away and were able to correct the problem with a permanent solution rather than just adding caulk and replacing a few shingles. Our second major problem followed the horrible hail storm we had a couple of years ago that hit Idaho Falls/Ammon really hard. We didn't think much of it at the time and didn't think we had any significant damage since we didn't have any damage to house siding, but a year later, Tyler came by to check on the previous work as a follow up, and he noticed the pitting in the shingles from the hail storm. He recommended I reach out to our insurance company and ask to have it looked at. We did so and it was recommended we file a claim and have the roofing replaced. We ask Slade roofing to put us on their schedule. Tyler coordinated with our insurance company and took care of all the needed approvals, and when our scheduled time came, their crew had a new roof on within a couple days!...Not only was the job done efficiently, but little extras were done at no additional cost (additional vents, upgraded caps). Tyler sent us aerial pictures of the work being done using a drone that was really cool too. Clean up afterwards was awesome, and all the workers were personable and friendly. When the home inspection showed that our roof needed some repairs, it put some pressure on us. Thankfully, Slade answered our phone call - they agreed to send a person over the very next day to look at it, and give us an estimate. When they showed up (on time, I will add) they assured me that the repairs were not expensive, and could be completed quickly. The work was professional, very quick, and the cost was WAY less than I anticipated. When my neighbor needed someone to look at her roof, I recommended Slade to her. They were super nice, prompt, and didn't charge her. They are excellent to work with, prompt, and exceptionally reasonable. read more

As a property manager that manages over 1000 units in the eastern Idaho area having a quality roofer that gets things done on time and done correctly has been priceless. Slade has helped take care of situation is like a tree branch going through a roof over Thanksgiving weekend where it was raining and snowing to putting on new roofs for some of our commercial and residential buildings. Slade roofing replaced an entire roof (wind and hail damaged) for me on my house prior to sale. Tyler is very pleasant to work with and installs high quality shingles such as the malarkey Vista which is a 50-year hail resistant shingle.
