This bus goes between IAH airport and downtown Houston ... and that's it. The buses are sometimes like motor coaches, with upholstered seats, power outlets, overhead vents you can regulate, and some room for luggage on and below. On occasions, it might be an articulated bus, which is a double length bus and still spacious. You can't argue with the fare. It's $1.25 and it behooves the Houston area to keep it low so people can get between IAH airport and downtown and keep vehicles such as rental cars, rideshares, and taxis off the road. Note that IAH-Bush Intercontinental is the much more distant of H-town's two major airports. This bus line would easily get 5 stars if two things were present. First, the bus uses I-45, which is free of charge, instead of using the quickly moving parallel tollway from downtown and heading toward IAH. The other is that the, for a small part of the trip, the bus plies the streets of Greenspoint, and that part goes slowly. It's that this area, near IAH, has a fair number of big hotels seemingly aimed at airport and business park travelers put up during the '70s boom. I'm sure it does not look like the Greenspoint of the "Brady" years and Houstonians tend to make jokes about that, but many are not suitable for repeating. Lastly, this bus often tends toward being full. I've only taken it twice - once in each direction - and would gladly take it in the future. If picking it up at the airport - right outside Terminal C - you just queue and that determines when you board or if you are slated for the next bus. If picking it up downtown, it runs between the big Metro transit center and goes up linearly along the length of downtown until it merges onto I-45 and starts moving more fluidly. In that short leg, I saw it go from being sparsely populated near its downtown terminus to filling up by its last downtown stop, so plan accordingly if you want a more comfortable ride. - - - - - As I approached the 102, it was as if some sort of a song or jingle was playing in my head. It would have had the tempo and delivery of "ABC" by the Jackson 5. I'll give this the "old college try." Remember that you must infuse a Jackson 5 "ABC" rhythm - you know, when music was spirited - or this won't work. A layover brought us back here and it was quiet and not crowded for a Saturday, early evening. As far as US airports go, this was a nice change and a pleasure to fly through. Connecting international flights take extra time to go through passport control, immigration, and recheck bags. Allow extra time for connecting flights. Only downside, hence a deduction of a point is somehow my neck pillow was either stolen or thrown away after going through the security machine. Although there are cameras everywhere, they couldn't find it. All in a matter of minutes. At least all my important items were still there.

Terminal D has always been the worst and I guess they took that into consideration for this upgrade to a proper international terminal. It is not finished and they are still working on the proper international gates. Terminal D went from worse to first or close to C1 - C15, the current best. I spoke to the United agent and she said this has only been "finished" for about a week. I didn't deduct three points for the ongoing parking and train mess out front. Please note it continues to be a huge mess and the airport authority has no clue. This isn't being managed well. IAH has more land than almost any other airport. Why don't they use it an establish a train to get to terminals. This is silliness.

Unlike my experience on the Red Line, the Purple shares a lane of traffic in each direction with cars and on a busy day as it was today, the train does not get you there any faster than simply walking. The station is a side platform on Capitol Street on Rusk Street between Fannin Street and San Jacinto Street. It is between Theater District (westbound) and Convention District (eastbound, towards Palm Center). The station has automated ticket kiosks and an overhead visual announcement for the next train. I didn't stick around long enough to wait for the audio as I had a baseball game to see!

The cost is minimal ($1.25 for unlimited rides for 3 hours), and you can buy tickets right on your smart phone. On a Saturday afternoon, the red line trains were running every 15 minutes or so. Also something to notice: there are different platforms for trains going south vs trains going north, so need to pay attention to be on the right platform (they are not connected). In our case, we needed to go South so the southern most platform was the right one to be on.

But just nothing was open, I was walking through a hallway underground, partially lit, by myself. I felt it'd be a great opportunity to get mugged- nobody was around in these empty hallways. I felt like I wasn't supposed to be down there after hours- none of the interesting looking shops, food stands or anything much was open, other than parking and restrooms. You enter through sort-of nondescript doorways to go up and down stairways to these tunnels that look like they'd be great for when it's raining, or super hot outside. They're air conditioned. I wouldn't go out of my way to see these- it's sort of like a shopping mall pedestrian walkway underground connected various buildings downtown.
