    Amenities advertised

What a disappointment! We booked on Hotel.com and got a great off-season price. Non of the amenities listed on the listing were available. Booked another room at the front desk and it was $30 more than the internet price, so we booked another through the Hotel.com site. Why not match? Unfortunately the clerk ran the credit card and it took a call to the property manager to come in and try to fix it. He was not a pleasant guy. Down right rude. Why not include in your ad about off-season amenities are not available? Your in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do!!! Rooms are modest and clean that's the best I can say.

    Outside of motel

Simple but pleasant motel style accommodations. Not fancy but adequate with a decent pub type restaurant attached. Prices very reasonable. Close to Beckley.

This place is gorgeous. I got an awesome deal on a one night stay 4th of July weekend after finding all the hotels in Beckley were at least double what I paid here. The view is amazing! The room is cozy and clean, not sure what people expect but everything is decent and beyond my expectations. Will try the food later and update!

    A bloody steak...

Pulling into the lot, I wasn't for sure if I was in the right place; I was for sure this was a Super 8. Walked in a wandered over to a table (no one greets you or let's you know to seat yourself). We tried the (microwaved) pretzel bites and beer cheese. They are exactly how you can imagine a microwaved pretzel: chewy and hard to swallow. They went ahead and gave us our salads with blue cheese and blue cheese dressing. It was hard to scarf down the mold... I mean cheese. My main course was brought out, the Cajun Pasta. Disappointed in the "Blackened Chicken"; it was more like lightly seared. The steak tasted as though it came from Krogers... For $26 I could have gotten Lamb from Outback! Honestly, if you want to eat here, make sure you are very drunk. The waitress was overbearing, and honestly made the experience worse. Was worth it? No. Do I recommend it? No. Maybe if you came here for the Hick Bar, you may enjoy it.

I want to preface this review by saying that we did not stay overnight in a room at The Greenbrier,…read morebut we did spend most of the day there, and I'm glad we did. When you pull in, you will be greeted by security at the front gate. We advised them we were there for the bunker tour and to do some shopping and they gave us a parking pass and directions to the best place to park. The resort is iconic, huge and pristine. We walked our dog around the grounds and up to the main building. Unfortunately, even though they say that the resort is dog friendly, there are some areas where dogs are not allowed. So I waited outside while my husband spoke to someone at the front desk about reserving a spot for the bunker tour. When he returned, I went inside while he stayed out front with our pup. When you walk in the decor hits you all at once and, if you are a Fallout fan like I am, everything just feels so familiar and comfortable. The bold, eccentric colors and patterns, the chandeliers and unique furniture... It's all there. I wandered through the shops which are upscale and fun to browse, even if you're just looking. I bought some giant macarons which were priced incredibly reasonably and really enjoyed them. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, and even without reservations, we were able to get tickets to the bunker tour. Be advised that they made it very clear to us that getting tickets "day of" is not the standard experience, so I do recommend reserving tickets if you want to do the tour. The vault tour itself is probably closer to four stars, but it's definitely a must. Knowing there was a fully built secret congressional bunker hidden underneath this glamorous resort for decades is wild. You walk through the old dorm rooms and meeting areas and see how it was all set up so long ago. You're not allowed to take any photographs, but I did read some basic information before coming. Still, reading about it and seeing it are two totally different things. It cost well over $100 for the two of us to do the tour and that is before tip so it definitely isn't cheap. It would have also been nice to have more seating, especially for things like watching the video, etc. My feet hurt a little after the tour from standing so long on the hard concrete floors of the bunker. The only reason that we did not end up spending the night is that we really wanted to be inside some of the main buildings and although they do offer dog friendly accommodations, they are only located within certain cottages kind of on the edges or outskirts of the property. There is also a $250 fee for dogs so we decided at the time that it would not be worth it for us, however, full disclosure: we regret that decision. We definitely should have spent the night. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me and if I ever get the chance to come back here I will definitely get a room and stay as long as I can, soaking up the ambiance and anemoia.

They should give you a golf cart if they put you we are in the cottages or the Valleyview estate…read more Twice are room key did not work and we had to goof it 15 minutes back to the main building to get a new one. Yes I know the decor is supposed to be iconic, but it's just so outdated. It's not really that fun. The view is something to look at though! Love the mountains. They've got some nice activities and the fitness area is pretty decent with weights and machines. Falconry was an interesting excursion but the pricing is kinda crazy. The restaurants were all pretty good on the quality side but service was painfully slow for most. The breakfast buffet though is epic!

To me these are all cosmetic problems, and if updated would surely enhance the stay at this resort. But you do get what you pay for. We did not stay in the main hotel so I can't comment on those accommodations. Breakfast is included in the cost of your stay and for the price the food is tasty and well presented (see pics). The Manor Houses are actually two story houses that have a central gathering area with a fire place, two fold out couches, a full kitchen and dining area for a small family or group. The 4 rooms on each floor have two queen beds, so yes, you would have to get all four rooms to sleep 12 and best of luck organizing 12 people in 4 bathrooms -- yeah, that's just 4 toilets. And, at least in my view, there is nothing accessible about this place, including the doors out to the front porch which were locked tight. I was happy that we had the entire building to ourselves, not so happy that when I turned the bathroom fan on, a bunch of debris fell from the ceiling. As for the resort -- I'm sure the golfers are happy here. Everybody else, stay somewhere else, come here for the spa. The ladies were great. We were VERY happy with our massages, facials, and nail services. We also tried (and failed miserably) the escape room -- not the escape room fault. The cost was a little out there for the room, but that was okay -- it was a treat. What I had a lot of grief for was that I was essentially double charged for "resort fees" (which I used none of) and spa fees (which I paid plenty for). Bottom line -- don't believe what you see in the photos, and especially complain -- A LOT -- when you cannot get into buildings easily with a wheelchair, walker, or cane. And complain -- A LOT -- when you trip and fall from the crumbling brick stairs and walkways. To get into the fitness center, we had to call to get a door open in an area where the trash cans were stored. Wow -- I almost forgot Amanda, the exceedingly rude front desk person and the very so-so breakfast that we didn't even bother with our second morning. We won't be back.

You can book your reservation and sign your waivers online prior to arrival and then all you have to do is walk to the lodge area and get your lift tickets. You can book an all day pass or a selected 3 hour window. We opted for a window from 1200pm until 245pm. Note, the road to the resort has some pot holes and the parking lot is a gravel lot that is about a ten minute walk to the lodge. There is a shuttle that will drive you from the lot to the lodge but it fills up real quick. Once you get your pass you just walk out the door to the hill for tubing. The hill has eight to ten runs (a few were down bc the snow was melting). You will have to find a tube at the bottom or ask the staff for more. There is a lift to the top of the hill but the top was a little chaotic bc there was no staff up there keeping order and people will cut in or hold a lane. The run is pretty fast and it is a fun run down the hill. We were able to go 20-30 times in a three hour window with a break for a snack. The slope is equipped with snow makers but if they are on, they will blow snow and ice all over you (so goggles or glasses is a must). Good family adventure. They also offer skiing and snow boarding.

Being off the beaten path, it's easy to forget about life in the "real world." It was so quiet and peaceful; you only hear the sounds and see the sights of nature that have been lost in far too many places. I stayed in the Farmhouse Inn, the main house of the resort. It was clean, tastefully designed and well-furnished. I was the only one staying in this space, so again, it was very quiet. I spent a few hours outside in the evening chatting with a few other guests who were staying on the grounds. We sat out on the patio area during this time, and even decided to have our dinner there, as the weather was beautiful. While we ate, several deer payed a visit to the grounds to get dinner for themselves. Speaking of dinner, it was fantastic. I had a fresh salad, that I can only assume came from the organic garden on the grounds. Additionally, I had a vegetable lasagna and finished my meal with some delicious apple cake. Since I was leaving early the next morning for work, a breakfast basket was prepared for me with a variety of baked goods, orange juice, fruit, and a serving of the best baked oatmeal I ever had. Gail and Gary, the owners, were fantastic as well. They were extremely helpful from booking through my checkout. There were several emails sent to me prior to my visit with all the directions and information I needed to know for my arrival. Since I was arriving during their off hours, they prepared a binder for me that got me to my room and settled in until we had a chance to meet later in the evening. If you are interested in connecting with the outside world during your stay, cell service is spotty. I was told that only some cell service work there. However, there is a public phone that anyone can access if needed at no cost. In addition, the Farmhouse Inn has wifi. I don't believe this is true for all the outer houses. But since you come by the Farmhouse for meals, and any other time you want to, it shouldn't be an inconvenience. Overall, I have absolutely no complaints. I would HIGHLY reccomend this place if you're in the area.

We barely saw a soul besides the few workers. When we checked in the night manager was very kind and helpful getting us a few things that shared the dirty dance spots and scavenger hunt. My mom and I enjoyed talking about the spots. The room was very underwhelming, the door wasn't shut all the way when we went to it anyone could have been in and out of the room so that was really weird. The room seemed kinda run down. The bed frames were very wiggly and squeaky. With not having any activities or anything to do it would have been nice to have a tv. Everything was closed by or before 8pm. None of our phones were working great. We pretty much didn't have any service. They still had the Christmas lights on the building from winter. They were banging against the window the entire night. It was very loud and kept me awake almost all night. The next day it was raining and they were expecting snow that night. So not the best weather to explore. Again it was a new desk manager in the morning and he was very helpful and kind. Unfortunately they were working on the back driveway so the only way was to walk all the way around several buildings or to carry all of your stuff down the stair. Thank goodness for the front desk manager carrying several things for us. But this was massively frustrating not to be able to use that area or see the few spots from the movie. The resort has history and is very pretty but definitely isn't for everyone. We live far away and made a special trip so it was disappointing to say the least for the price especially. To be able to share the experience with my mom is what I will cherish. But I wouldn't go or stay again.
