We were extremely pleased with everything about it once we arrived. The remodel in 2007 was beautifully done. The Kathleen Suite was perfect for my wife, two daughters and I. Although most of the furnishings were authentic and antique, they were tastefully redone and everything worked. The lighting fixtures, the air conditioning, ceiling fans, the modern locks for the doors, and the beautifully redesigned kitchen were perfect. Since we were on a week long road trip we were pleasantly surprised that the house had two full size washers and dryers available for guests to use (including soap and fabric softener). The next day we discovered that the Kenneth Suite had its own washer and dryer inside. We were called the day before we arrived and asked what kind of quiche we wanted. It was was custom made for us the day before our arrival. The next morning we popped it into the oven, followed the directions and baked it for 15 minutes at 450 degrees and we had one of the most delicious quiches ever!! Add that the price is very reasonable, the house is extremely clean and Hinton is a cool little town, I wish we could have stayed longer.

I want to preface this review by saying that we did not stay overnight in a room at The Greenbrier,…read morebut we did spend most of the day there, and I'm glad we did. When you pull in, you will be greeted by security at the front gate. We advised them we were there for the bunker tour and to do some shopping and they gave us a parking pass and directions to the best place to park. The resort is iconic, huge and pristine. We walked our dog around the grounds and up to the main building. Unfortunately, even though they say that the resort is dog friendly, there are some areas where dogs are not allowed. So I waited outside while my husband spoke to someone at the front desk about reserving a spot for the bunker tour. When he returned, I went inside while he stayed out front with our pup. When you walk in the decor hits you all at once and, if you are a Fallout fan like I am, everything just feels so familiar and comfortable. The bold, eccentric colors and patterns, the chandeliers and unique furniture... It's all there. I wandered through the shops which are upscale and fun to browse, even if you're just looking. I bought some giant macarons which were priced incredibly reasonably and really enjoyed them. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, and even without reservations, we were able to get tickets to the bunker tour. Be advised that they made it very clear to us that getting tickets "day of" is not the standard experience, so I do recommend reserving tickets if you want to do the tour. The vault tour itself is probably closer to four stars, but it's definitely a must. Knowing there was a fully built secret congressional bunker hidden underneath this glamorous resort for decades is wild. You walk through the old dorm rooms and meeting areas and see how it was all set up so long ago. You're not allowed to take any photographs, but I did read some basic information before coming. Still, reading about it and seeing it are two totally different things. It cost well over $100 for the two of us to do the tour and that is before tip so it definitely isn't cheap. It would have also been nice to have more seating, especially for things like watching the video, etc. My feet hurt a little after the tour from standing so long on the hard concrete floors of the bunker. The only reason that we did not end up spending the night is that we really wanted to be inside some of the main buildings and although they do offer dog friendly accommodations, they are only located within certain cottages kind of on the edges or outskirts of the property. There is also a $250 fee for dogs so we decided at the time that it would not be worth it for us, however, full disclosure: we regret that decision. We definitely should have spent the night. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me and if I ever get the chance to come back here I will definitely get a room and stay as long as I can, soaking up the ambiance and anemoia.

They should give you a golf cart if they put you we are in the cottages or the Valleyview estate…read more Twice are room key did not work and we had to goof it 15 minutes back to the main building to get a new one. Yes I know the decor is supposed to be iconic, but it's just so outdated. It's not really that fun. The view is something to look at though! Love the mountains. They've got some nice activities and the fitness area is pretty decent with weights and machines. Falconry was an interesting excursion but the pricing is kinda crazy. The restaurants were all pretty good on the quality side but service was painfully slow for most. The breakfast buffet though is epic!

I looked into a Bed and Breakfast and found the Rockwood Manor. The price was what you would expect with no price gouging whatsoever. It turned out to be a very happy turn of events. Rockwood Manor is about a 15 minute drive from Radford university and was perfect for our needs. The Manor is on the historic register. A bit rustic on in places, it was last renovated in 2005. It is a beautiful place and our Hosts Frank and Rochelle were warm, friendly and very welcoming. We stayed in the Blakemore room. It had lots of windows which provided a nice view of the property. Our room also had a jacuzzi which we used and it was amazing after a long day on the road. The bed was a bit more firm than what we are used to at home and we recommended a mattress topper but by no means is this a negative as it is a personal preference. The linens were nice and clean and smelled fresh. We walked around the property and they looked to be all set up for wedding events. Lots of space, lots of areas for photo ops. It would be an ideal place for a wedding with room for a reception. The inside while at one point was the family home was like walking through history. We loved it. My favorite thing about the place was that I felt at home. Frank and and Rochelle are wonderful hosts. The breakfast the next morning was great with options for everyone. They also set the food up buffet style which made me feel like I was at a big family breakfast :) The only suggestion I would have is for our hosts to look into some professional rug cleaning. There were a couple of stains in the rug under the table in our room would need professional stain removal to get out. This place is one of the best B&Bs my wife and I have ever visited. We loved it!!!

Christy was wonderful; she reached out to ensure we could gain access, answers questions and prepared our breakfast the next morning. There are several things that need to be understood regarding Powerhouse ATV Lodge. Regarding "ATV Lodge" there are 2 completely different "buildings" I would almost say different Locations, although they are on the same property. The "Mansion" was built approximately 1900, it was built by one of the coal barrens of the time. It will give you insight into the opulence of the early 19th century. The eat in kitchen is modern; there is a quaint TV room with flat panel TV. Then there is a large dining room with fireplace, where there are entrances from both sides of the home to enter into, it has a tile floor so there are no worries of water, mud or dirt on the floor. Off the kitchen to the other side is a Large Formal Dining room with its 12-14 ft ceiling. From there you go into a large continues area, yet separated, that includes a formal tea sitting area, huge fireplace, over stuffed couch and chairs in front of the fire place with another large flat panel TV. All TV have Dish network satellite TV, there is free long distance calling, and high speed internet. Do not plan on using your cell phone, some phones will text reliably, but cell service is intermittent at best. There are other sitting and reading areas around the outside with stained glass windows. There are two bedrooms off the dining room with their own outside entrances and bathroom. There is another bathroom off the tv room. Several upstairs bedrooms have their own bathrooms, plus there is/are large shared bathrooms on the second floor with plenty of hot water. The second floor bedrooms are large with beds and furniture that go with the décor of the 1900's home with modern conveniences. I believe the Mansion sleeps approximately 14 people with easy, you would not feel crowded at all. My last stay there was 7 people and we had to actually look for each other as there was so much room. I would consider staying here just as a get away for a weekend or a week. The ATV riding is just a bonus! Off the south porch is a large yard with a large fountain, a gazebo and terraced lawn. There are a number of things to explore outside. While on the subject the south entrance has a large covered ground level cement deck patio with table and chairs. You can leave things outside protected from the elements. The north side is a raised porch with a roof so property left on the porch there is also protected from weather. The north porch has the driveway up to it with a high pressure water house, so you can drive your atv up each evening and wash it off. The second lodge, I believe was the care takers home, is a brick home with 1 story at ground level, were you can drive your atv up 6 feet of the front door with covered cement porch deck, sit in the deck chairs or swing in the chain glider. High pressure water to wash off your atv, and coarse crushed stone for drainage is a nice addition. Then parking for the atv on the opposite side of the driveway again on crushed stone for water drainage. There also is lodging on the lower level of the home with walk out basement; both have their own gas grill. Bathroom is a combination tub/shower with no shortage of hot water. The ground level has two bedrooms, 3 single beds in one and a single and twin/double in the other each trip someone usually sleeps on the couch as it is so comfortable. Eat in kitchen with a/c, glass top cook range, satellite TV flat panel, couch and chairs in the living room. As mentioned in another review the coal train is in the valley below. The home is built on rock, so there is no movement or feeling of the train going past, just some sound of the train, which is just a steady noise, NO click clack associated with a traditional train. My last trip to PowerHouse ATV Lodge, I took my wife for her first trip, my son and I stayed at the care takers home, my wife remarked that after the 1st hour there she did not notice the trains. The trains are slow moving and in the evening after approximately 10 pm, they slow even more and the numbers decrease. In my week there I never had the trains interrupt anything I was doing, talking, watching TV or sleeping! The ATV riding from the location is superb! From your front porch you have access, without transporting your atv, to Pocahontas, Indian Ridge, Pinnacle Creek and Rockhouse (Rockhouse connection is a long ride). Then there are miles and miles of outlaw trails, and uncharted trails to explore. There are numerous destination rides, to the Mexican Restaurant in Pineville, the ice cream sandwich Shoppe in the old drugstore in Bramwell, the drive in restaurant and ice cream and many others. Each trail system is a little different. Of these four I would say Pocahontas is the easiest, if there is a drawback it seems all the trail heads the first part of the trails is

The Manor Houses are actually two story houses that have a central gathering area with a fire place, two fold out couches, a full kitchen and dining area for a small family or group. The 4 rooms on each floor have two queen beds, so yes, you would have to get all four rooms to sleep 12 and best of luck organizing 12 people in 4 bathrooms -- yeah, that's just 4 toilets. And, at least in my view, there is nothing accessible about this place, including the doors out to the front porch which were locked tight. I was happy that we had the entire building to ourselves, not so happy that when I turned the bathroom fan on, a bunch of debris fell from the ceiling. As for the resort -- I'm sure the golfers are happy here. Everybody else, stay somewhere else, come here for the spa. The ladies were great. We were VERY happy with our massages, facials, and nail services. We also tried (and failed miserably) the escape room -- not the escape room fault. The cost was a little out there for the room, but that was okay -- it was a treat. What I had a lot of grief for was that I was essentially double charged for "resort fees" (which I used none of) and spa fees (which I paid plenty for). Bottom line -- don't believe what you see in the photos, and especially complain -- A LOT -- when you cannot get into buildings easily with a wheelchair, walker, or cane. And complain -- A LOT -- when you trip and fall from the crumbling brick stairs and walkways. To get into the fitness center, we had to call to get a door open in an area where the trash cans were stored. Wow -- I almost forgot Amanda, the exceedingly rude front desk person and the very so-so breakfast that we didn't even bother with our second morning. We won't be back.
