This hotel is one of the most unusual, and hi tech places I have ever stayed. Having been in the commercial products for construction industry I pay attention to how buildings are designed and built. The owner and the architect did not cut corners when they refurbished this old school. It was a serendipitous experience. The VARSITY restaurant was excellent! If you hate crowds and are waiting to take a chance on something very different, when in White Sulfur Springs, this place might be perfect for you!

The room, which was about as big as the New River Gorge, was a beautiful place to get some REM sleep dreams going. I even had some spare time to take a dip in the pool and hot tub, which was refreshing. I'll be back once I have enough time to make myself a waffle there for breakfast. This inn is nestled on top a mountain with beautiful views and settled away from all the hustle of surrounding towns yet it's still easily accessible from the interstate. There's also a very nice convenient store located on the property perfect for getting gas, snacks for your journey. They offer a beautiful lobby with a nice continental breakfast and even have other purchasable meals and items if you so happen to forget something for your trip. The Inn Manager Chantel addressed any concerns immediately, efficiently. She was very kind and personable. It was a joy just chatting with her. Thank you Chantel for making our stay a memorable one.

The negatives: it was $130 a night, the bed was broken, the internet sucks, there's nothing to eat anywhere near, and it is a clearly reviewed by the owners/staff because I just can't see how it was rated a 9 on Hotels.com. I love to find little mom and pop places, I dislike the big chains generally. To find one that was rated 9 was too good to pass up, even though it was a little pricey. But I just can't see how this place got such a great rating. The bed was broken for one. There's no elevator to the second floor, and when you are exhausted and carrying bags, then you have to climb stairs, ugh! You get to your room and try to find the next place you are headed, and the internet dies intermittently. So no streaming your own shows or anything, no gaming for the kids, it is even difficult to do your research on where you are staying next. The place is clean but bring your slippers, the room isn't carpeted. That makes it much easier for staff to clean up after people's pets, I suppose, and we had no allergic reactions which was nice. The little refrigerator is on the floor, and the microwave is on a TV dinner table which feels a bit wobbly. There's a little sign in the room telling you that any infractions of their policy will cost you $250 in cleaning fees. The room was very very noisy. There is a laundry room or an ice machine very near ours that made all kinds of noise all night long. And the racket off the highway was a constant but it is also a positive since it is so easy to get back on the road. Oh and the room door was sticking making it hard to open. They gave us a code to key into the room and when we keyed it in, we thought we did it wrong because the door wouldn't open. It kept telling us the code was good, but wouldn't let us in until we shoved hard.

The lake was really pretty and the dam had some water flowing over the spillway, which added to the peaceful ambiance. Total bullshit. Ruined my whole day and tainted my visit to West Virginia and New River Gorge. Don't bother camping here unless you want to be moved to a shitty site with more noise and less privacy that you didn't pay for and don't want. I spent a considerable amount of time researching third-party websites for views and reviews of specific sites before booking. They granted me the indignity of having to camp literally right next to the one I paid for and reserved in advance while someone else camped in the site I booked and was looking forward to. They claim they overbooked, but it was a different site than mine and on a previous day - making it entirely irrelevant to my reserved site the day of - they just couldn't be bothered to ask the person in my reserved site to move now that others were opened. Instead of asking the double-booked person to move to the one I was given, they made it my problem. Extremely unprofessional and just plain wrong. It's ridiculous that they even have a system which supposedly allows for double-booking in the first place. I never would have booked the site they replaced mine with. I checked out the site but never checked in (the RV people were right on the other side of the trees behind my site, something I had intentionally tried to avoid), ended up camping for free at Grandview Sandbar Campground instead. If I wanted that site I would have reserved it, but I didn't and would not have. Completely defeats the purpose of making a reservation if they aren't going to honor it. Little Beaver State Park Campground is run by incompetent and inconsiderate people. Flawed booking system and inept individuals ruining a public institution. Total joke, shame on them. "We hope you don't mind". Damn right I mind, you took my money for a reservation you didn't keep! I hated my non-stay with a passion and will never be back.

You were allowed to exit and reenter with a wristband- the entrance seemed a little sporadic though with people coming and going and it probably would've been easy to just walk right in and bypass security/ticket scanners. Not a ton of food vendors so every line was 40+ people long. I only saw two sections for bathrooms- I waited 30 minutes in the early evening. Trash cans were around but were all overflowing. Grounds are flat and easily walkable and accessible. Parking was free. Sound was pretty good- especially for Tyler Childers. The biggest cluster mess was exit. There was apparently only one exit from the venue, so THOUSANDS of people are trying to exit at once. Why not open up the various gates around the venue to let people out? Also, upon leaving, the path bottlenecks to walk through a tunnel and that just added to the cluster mess when trying to leave. Upon leaving the tunnel, there was yet ANOTHER bottle neck because of security! They had tents and card tables lined up so that you could only exit through about an 8 foot space which was completely stupid! The exit was so horrible and took almost 20 minutes to walk .2 miles out of the venue and into the parking lots. There was also no one directing traffic upon exit, so that was another mess to deal with. I had a nice time listening to the music, but the exit was such a mess and other logistics could've been handled better!
