Wow this review turned into quite a novel... This place is awesome, it's like a time capsule from times long past! If you have never been to a Drive-in it's just like the movies... Where can you find a double feature movie for $12. The movie was current also, we watched the trolls movie and it had been released to theaters the day before! The Drive-in looks pretty rough in the day and almost abandoned from the street. But around 6:30pm the place comes alive! We stay at Shady Lane RV park down the street a couple times a year when we pass through Barstow. We wanted to go but were always to tired to go after being on the road all day. My wife and daughter have never been to a Drive-In so it was a memorable occasion. And to boot we brought our RV. The man at the gate was very polite and helpful to guide me into the grounds, it's a little tight with a 40' RV. It was also evident that not all had made it through the gates safely from the damage to the booth at the gate. He asked if we had ever been there and if we had somewhere to stay tonight. We told him we were staying down the street. He then offered free overnight parking for guests that watch a movie, wow how cool is that?! We are definitely going to take him up on that next time. I doubt they have any hookups but it's way better than a loud and bright Walmart parking lot. We were pleasantly surprised the movie was $12 per adult $5 for kids & $6 for the largest bag of popcorn. If we had one of these back home it probably would be $20 a person and another $20 for popcorn. The people behind the concession stand were super friendly. All the food was reasonably priced. The man behind the counter also offered to let us stay on the grounds. I am very grateful that this place is still open to bring my family to. After covid and Netflix I see movie theaters closing left and right. It would be a shame to see this place close so please visit and show your support. We heard about this place from a friend. We live about 90 minutes away from here but decided to make the trip out as we are not comfortable going to indoor movie theaters quite yet since the pandemic. Have been to drive ins before but not in several years and haven't been to a movie since 2020. The place is definitely nothing nice to look at but it gets the job done. It's your standard drive in and is kept clean. We went on a Sunday evening and it was not too busy. Got a great spot and the movie was projected very clearly onto one of their two screens that they offer. Even saw a great sunset and a shooting star during our movie which was pretty awesome! The price was very good for even one movie but they actually offered it for two, which we didn't stay to take advantage of due to the long drive back home. The staff was very friendly however I would suggest that you bring your own food in. We did a mixture of the two because we wanted to support the business. We got a large popcorn which they offer one free refill on which is great and also a large fountain drink. Sadly both were inedible and we threw them out. The popcorn was very stale and cold and the soda was just awful, I'm not sure what they use but it tasted like bad tap water mixed into it. They do offer restrooms which is very nice and appreciated. It was clean and empty both times I used it but the smell inside the restrooms was pretty bad, like that of a portable bathroom but again it got the job done. We will definitely be back as this offers a nice alternative to indoor theaters that we won't most likely won't be comfortable going to for quite some time. We will for sure be bringing our own food next time. If you're reading this PLEASE remember to turn off your headlights. That was quite annoying during the movie several cars did not and it was distracting. We ended up putting our trucks windshield sun shade in the back window to block peoples lights and it worked great! Great drive in! Lost 2 customers came 5 minutes late to a. 8:30 showing of despicable me with my finance and nieces and was greeted by a red sign that I wasn't able to see due to my eyesight so I proceed in to be greeted by a angry red haired troll yelling at us to turn the light off. I have $40 in my hand waiting for a explanation or a solution and all I got was a man yelling for me to turn the lights off, I turn them off and he proceeds to talk on for 4 minutes around the point... if I missed the sign can you redirect me to the area so I can pay why are you causing a problem but the kids began to cry and my finance was ready to strangle him for berating us and flashing the light as if we're looking for you when your not even at the ticket booth and barely able to hold power. This place is a hidden gem for large families. Going to a movie theater is a more expensive compared to this drive in. We went as family of 7 and only spent $40.00. The other great thing about a drive-in is the fact you can have a fussy baby and still enjoy the movie without disturbing others. They also have a full snack bar with relatively low prices compared to movie theaters. We ordered the nachos and they were enough to share between two adults compared to what you get at a movie theater. We have come to this drive in many times, and occasionally we have run into inconsiderate people that leave their head lights on while the movie is playing. The worst scenario we encountered was being smoked out by some young kids using marijuana. If you have this issue, talk to the employees! They do not play games and address the issue immediately. The owner is very nice and wants to make it a family friendly environment. As with any other public location, have patience with those around you because some people are just out to ruin a good time. Look at the schedule in advance so that you go prepared in the event you stay for both movies. The location has two screens that play two movies each and you can't jump from one screen to the other for the second movie. You pick the screen that has the movies you want to watch when you pay at the gate. I take a battery jumper just in case, but they have one on site if your vehicle battery dies. All you need for a good time is a good FM radio in your car so that you can tune into the appropriate channel for the movie. They also have restrooms on site which is always a plus when watching two movies back to back. Take cash to pay at the gate and for food, they do not take ATM cards. read more

Skyline drive-in bio in Barstow is definitely worth a visit if you are passing through or live close by. We went during a stopover on a trip to Vegas. Very authentic, and a bargain if you are a movie-fan. The audio quality transmitted through your FM radio is great - very movie-theater like (depending on your car-stereo obviously). Many people back up their pickup trucks and and watch it sitting in the back. If you have an estate or van you can back up and watch it from from there. If you have a four-door vehicle, the persons in front get the best experience but if you are more people I would reccomened bringing a coupe of foldable chairs for remaining passengers. We have smaller kids that could sit on our laps in the front but it was not super comfortable. All in all, a great experience - highly recommendable! read more

My family and I have been living up in the High Desert for approximately 7 years now and finally had the chance to watch a flick here. We were not disappointed! Now I regret not bringing them sooner. The place is nostalgic and strongly reminds me of the times my parents too me as a kid, to the drive in back in the 80's. The view at dusk is amazing! Although a little dated, it gets to the point by delivering good customer service, good food and great flicks! The snack bar offers your typical movie theater style popcorn, hot dogs and sodas. They also sell nachos, although I didn't try them... they looked good! The prices at the snack bar are very affordable. The charge for the movie tickets, as well. They have two movie screens, on which they host a double feature every day. We we're there on a Tuesday and it wasn't too busy. I expect weekends to be much more so. I believe that they have a newly featured movie every Friday? Feel free to bring your folding chairs and some relaxation. We will definitely keep coming back!! read more

YAY!!!! My first drive in!! As a city girl, my exposure to the outdoor is not as extensive as I would like... I was overly excited when the opportunity to do a classic Movie Drive In landed on my foot steps!! After a LONG HOT day in the dessert, it was awesome just chilling in the car, watching movies and snacking down on popcorn and soda. The food prices were amazing affordable. $2.50 for a small popcorn and $2.50 for a small soda. If I hadn't just had a giant meal, I would of totally gone for the $4.50 large popcorn with the free refills!! Our new favorite family activity! This place really reminds me of my childhood and going to the drive in with my family as a little girl. There's something so simple and wholesome about it. It was so great to see so many families there enjoying it as much as us and so wonderful to be able to pass this tradition on to our kids! Everyone that worked there was super niceAlso the bathroom was so clean which is MAJOR for a germaphobe like me. We will definitely do this monthly! The only negative thing I would say is the rude people who pulled up half way through the movie and we're rowdy the entire time. Still getting food and situated an hour into the movie... cussing... shining their phones in our faces... kids running in every direction while their parents left them to go to the concession stand... Then they left all their trash for the staff to deal with. Everyone was getting very irritated with them. I know some people weren't raised right but it's really concerning that these people had 6 kids who they are passing their disrespectful behavior on to... come on time or early if you need snacks and watch the movie and then clean up after YOURSELVES! It's easy to just be a decent person and do your part. read more

While in Barstow exploring the area, I discovered that there was still a drive-in Movie theatre. I really do enjoy drive-ins. I've found that most people think they've gone completely extinct. But they haven't really. I'd say they're more of an endangered species. This place was built in 1966 during the hey-day of the drive in movie theatres. I actually learned about it in a book about old restaurants in southern California. After a bit of internet work, I located it, and plotted an adventure out to the deserts of Barstow. As of my trip over Columbus Day weekend in 2017, two movies costs you a total of nine dollars per person. The screens are digitally projected, and the sound comes through an FM radio station. 102 something if I remember. (There are signs about it on the ticket booth) I arrived early, and saw the new Blade Runner movie. It was one of the rare occasions that they play single feature movies. But it actually ran well into the second feature over on screen #2. I actually had most of the 'theatre' to myself. There were just a handful of cars parked around me. There were far more parked over in the double-feature second screen. Not sure if it was the movie itself or the screen that was a bit dark. The Snack bar was neat and interesting. The people inside were super friendly, super nice, and chatty happy people. However, I'll admit I was a bit disenchanted when the $3 'steak and cheese burrito' turned out to be a run-of-the-mill microwave burrito pulled out of the freezer and tossed into a microwave. I even burned my tongue on the thing. I should have waited longer on that. I guess I was expecting something more for a half century old building. So...ya. Absolutely buy your popcorn here, but I'd pass on the dinner menu. So, drive in Movies are incredibly awesome and great and wonderful experiences. You really need to go and visit one before they are actually extinct. read more

Came to Barstow to check out this particular drive-in theater. Caught a movie on a Tuesday night total of no more than 10 cars between the 2 screens. Paid cash. The guy at the front was helpful, funny and nice. There is a funny sign that says "Cash Only, ATM down the street". Wish I had taken a picture of it, it was so funny to me. When the screen comes to life, you see some old timey concession stand cartoons. It really adds to the experience. We didn't bring a radio, so we used the car radio. Started up the car a few times during the movie, so the battery wouldn't die. Concession stand was cute. I agree with some of the other yelp reviews, doesn't seem like the popcorn is fresh. The doors to the theater opened at 8pm..and when we went to the concession stand...There was no popcorn popping in the popcorn machine. Girl behind the counter got the popcorn from a heated bin. The girls were nice. All in all regardless of the popcorn. It was a nice theater, good sound, nice screen...nice view of the city and a great sunset. When I took my first trip out to Barstow to visit the Skyline drive in I was more than a bit hesitant. My previous experience with the drive-ins had been the Vineland drive in located at the City of Industry. This was not a pleasant experience. I was in fear for my life for half of "The Simpsons' Movie" and the bathroom had what could be called a "Bates Motel" charm to it. So when it was suggested that we head up to Barstow (already a chilling sentence for me) I was not setting the bar too high. I was delighted to see how wrong I was! The view when you enter the drive in is incredible. The desert landscape is actually quite a sight, a calm and serene backdrop to the movie screens. Come early, see the sunset and enjoy the reasonable prices at the snack bar. Yes the food and drink are actually quite fairly priced! Another shocker! You get that warm and fuzzy retro feeling when you pay for food and drink and don't have to look at financing options. A true family atmosphere, gone are the more shady characters that used to hang around the drive-ins. The 'lovable tramps' who are now simply referred to as 'crack heads' and those creepy looking vehicles that get the very far spot, usually with the classic "If this vans a rockin, don't come a knockin!" bumper sticker. The staff is very friendly, usually quite knowledgeable about the local area. While watching a movie, I had unwittingly left my rear lights on, and one of the staff members gently brought it to my attention, and did his very best not to laugh at me while I fumbled around trying to find the correct switch to turn it off. The old window speakers of yesteryear have been taken out, thanks to people like my father who enjoyed driving the car with the speakers still attached. Most of the current drive-ins make use of a broadcast FM signal. A good car stereo is a valuable asset while listening to the movies shown. A pair of jumper cables might also come in handy; as I saw several people's cars not start up during my double feature. The men's restroom has this strange bathtub like urinal, but is very clean, and not once did I feel like I was going to be stabbed by a man wearing his mother's clothes. Visit this drive-in! I live in Victorville and my friends and I love making the trip! First, we go to the original Del Taco and stuff our faces. Yes, it tastes so much better than the others! I highly recommend it! Then we head over to the drive-in a little early to get a good spot. I also have this terrible sickness where I like to talk during a movie and I can since no one else can hear you in your own car. We always get really giggly and we try not to be too loud, and we don't have to worry about that at the drive-in. Another awesome part about the drive-in is that it's so affordable! You can see two movies for less than the price of one at the regular theatres. And these are new releases too. They're not the movies that have been out for a few months already that get sent to the dollar theatre (which I frequent as well). It just always produces a really relaxing atmosphere for me and my girls and we love going, especially during the summer. I also recommend it for a date. My husband, brother in law, and I went to the drive in last night. We had such an amazing time. We live in the Antelope Valley, but had seen this on our way home from Vegas. My husband called to inquire, and we could not believe you get two movies for $6 bucks! That is just amazing! So last night we made the hour drive out to watch X-Men and Hangover2. I had no idea what to expect, but we did know there was a little concession stand. We left our house about 5:45, so we would get there an hour early. I wanted to bring pillows and blankets, but the hubby just wanted to sit in the car. It was a little chilly out. Next time I am going to bring extra pillows and blankets, back our car out and sit in the bed of the car. Either way, the Drive in is absolutely amazing. I was so happy to see there were lots of cars there, even an hour in advance, the place was getting full! I can tell you why, too. These people really know how to give great customer service, and there are a lot of people who want to visit a great place like this. The sun was still up, but we got to watch it set, which was amazingly gorgeous. They have two huge screens, so you can watch a different movie if youd like. The popcorn at the concession stand was only $3 bucks for a medium -- Umm.. at our local theatre it is like $6 bucks for the large, which was the same size as the medium. It smelled and tasted delicious! Candy, only $1.50, half the price as a normal place. It made me feel that I could go out and buy their candy instead of packing my own. I like to support this business any way that I can, and they make it affordable! We also had chili cheese nachos -- delicious! and two pretzels with cheese, also very delicious. Frozen lemonade, delicious! You change the channel to hear the movie, and I love this. The whole entire atmosphere was amazing. I laid with my head out of the side of the car, and was in no way feeling threatened. Everyone was there to have a wholesome good time, and lots of kids were present. Do start you car up between movies though, because a lot of them did die out -- 4 hours with your radio on can be detrimental! Another thing, whenever a car had to leave, they were so courteous and left their headlights off! I really love this place, and we are already looking forward to going back. You have to try it!! Magical. Absolutely amazing. My hubby and I decided to last minute retreat from urban Los Angeles for an out of the box adventure. We searched Tablet hotels-- we thought maybe an esoteric designy spot in Desert Hot Springs, or something beachside. Everything was too predictable, or booked, and I was about to give up. Then hubby said: I found a Drive-in 'Barstow.' A what!? In where? I thought Drive ins were dead....I'm here to tell you, the Skyline is alive and well. I'm writing this review in my pajamas, listening to the theatrical pre movie muzak. Children are laughing, families are eating popcorn in their lawnchairs, and teenagers are on dates. There's a warm desert breeze and the sunset is illuminating the rocky desert with a purple hue.... the movie is about to begin. After the movie is over... I'm here to say. Yes! This is an adventure worth driving for. The snack stand is yummy, and mostly clean. The audience was respectful and seemed to have a really good time. It got cold, so bring blankets and jackets. This is really a great place to take a date, have a family night, or even just go by yourself when you have nothing else to do.
